🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

I live close to Alex, in Waterfall Estate
Love how you guys are telling the stories of my home country in such a true, factual and authentic way, would love to meet Sonny one of these days
I wish I got to host you man this sucks!
Visit Mahatma gandhi's place
Sonny goes to the heart of wherever he visits... Gives authentic experience of the county's he goes to... love watching this series as a South African❤️🇿🇦
This guy he is with is an inspiration.. get of your ass en do something that is for tomorrow dont only think about today!!
Ya me too
Even me
The only thing that killed me was his pronunciation of "Zanele"... And then "soweto" not knowing its SOuth WEst TOwnship... But honestly the rest of the video made me an even prouder south african 🇿🇦 he comes with the utmost respect and care, makes jokes that are suitable and relatable and he will taste everything
Literally in many cases. Liver, kidney, stomach, and dirt too.
this is not a foodie channel, this is cultural tourism. much love & respect to you Sonny
true!
They go hand in hand. Have to understand the culture to understand the food...
As a South African youth from Alexandra, I'm proud of Zanele and Andrew for reaching for their dreams plus representing Kasi (Township) food culture well 💚
When you're born in a township, the struggles around you seem normal. It's only when you go outside of your township you realise there's actually a problem. It then hits you that there's more to life and you have the potential to do better. A number of people are in fact defeated in townships especially where I come from, Alexandra. Not because people don't want better but because of the environment itself. It takes a lot of mental, emotional, physical and financial fight to push through these barriers left by the Apartheid regime plus created by ourselves unconsciously. There's so much potential and untapped talent in Townships.
Side note: I'm actually going to try the Mogodu recipe as instructed 🍲
im not feom there, from another country with the some struggles. i was thinking exctly that, how brave those two are, specially because they didnt just leave the neighbourg. He said she open a restaurant in the peripheri thats hard, with robbery and crimes its hard to make the place survive, hope she done well
@@german18072 right!! I'm sending light your way too, you're going to make it 👏
@@lebogangn9495 thnk you for your kindness, much needed and appreciate, hope any seed of light i can harvest will return to you as a flower of sun when darkness is a menace
Good luck w the Mogodu 😂😂 Just do t think I could eat it in my present mindset
I love when people like Andrew show up on the show. Positive, communicative and really aware of everything that happens in his country. Good job as always to this channel. It's amazing!
These series are becoming more than food shows, this is a real insight into people and their culture. It's more of a documentary. A real eye opener into how others live and make the most out of so little. Top job Sonny
Andrew is an amazing guide for this video!! He explains the food and the culture so well! I like how he keeps it real and tells it like it is. I agree that struggle and scarcity in a region truly brings out the flavor in food.
Sitting on a bucket in the middle of the township enjoying food is very authentic. Truly amazing human being Sonny is
This was another fantastic episode! As a South African it always warms my heart to have my country shared to a wider audience. Thanks for doing an excellent job!

The crime sucks...I think this is SA's most difficult problem but people around here are the best I've ever encountered in my life and I wish I could've stayed here for life. I bet you 100$ that the next country you're going to visit, somebody there will tell you that that specific country is shi*.
this made me so happy, i never see african food in media without someone calling it gross or weird. loving this content
I love Chef Andrew, Sonny's host, "The harder you work the luckier you become". Inspirational !
A great quote indeed!
If that was true then why does the wyte supremacist in Europe keep stealing the resources to keep hard working people in poverty
@Samantha McClinn if that was true how did so much people become slaves an put under a racist system in South African an denied opportunity since nobody controls anything an all you have to do is work
Great quote yes, originally coined by Gary Player, a famous South African golfer
yep. .and that quote on Chef Zanele's restaurant, "little by little, a little becomes a lot", i love it. .
I enjoyed Soweto when I visited and though it’s been a while- what a happy reminder Sonny gave me! The people of this township were gracious, friendly, are are still in my thoughts and prayers ❤
Sonny's sense of humor is unmatched 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 thank you for showing the world my country!! 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

I love how kind and respectful Sonny is to other cultures. If everyone was a little more like Sonny, maybe the world would be a better place.
Be quiet blah blah the world would be a better place
Yes true that's why I call him Sunny 🌞
I think allot of people are like him but others only see the skin and thats a shame. Its the person who matters not the appearance! Sonny has a wholesome personality and something like that will always shine bright wherever you might be 😁
I think that when you travel as much and as deeply as Sonny, then naturally a deep respect for all cultures and people grow. Even a respect and appreciation of your own culture. Travel opens the mind and soul!
He's like a Sesame Street character, here to show us that people can be very different, but still be friends.
As a Cameroonian student in SA,I have come to appreciate South African culture, the hospitality of S.Africans, the pronunciations, etc and couldn't help laughing when Sonny pronounced Zanele as Zanell lol. Great job showing the truly authentic side of South AFRICA and not the Westernized McDonald's episode at Rosebank lol
😂😂😂😂
The Zanelle part was hilarious 🤣
Glad you're also having a lovely experience 👌🏽
😂😂😂
I see you bro with The Godfathers Shirt, Love
What do you think about the xenophobia here? Do you think it's as bad as it looks in the media?
That Andrew guy is an inspiration to all of us anywhere in the world you live. The harder you work the more you achieve.
As a South African who has watched this show for some years, I’m glad the team conducted thorough research. We are a very diverse nation with a history of division. Unfortunately, that division has prevented us from exploring different places and cultures within our own country. I think this series may be for South Africans to also get a glimpse of what’s out there (in here). I’m already excited to go to Alex😂
thanks to Mandela the economy going downhill
💯
I know Alex for very different reasons.
Me too jo!! I’m excited.
Just at the start of the video and the $2300 a year absolutely shocked me. Then she says she pushed herself to get a diploma in civil engineering! It actually gave me goose bumps. She has more education than I do and I didn't have to grow up in a place like this. The strength of some people is amazing!
@@wayne6512 but look where she's living all cramped up. I'm sure u living in a better house than her. Why is that?
@wayne Cowley what? 😂 I can assure you, she did not get this far in life because of her skin colour. Promise 🤞🏿
@@wayne6512 stop lying., one thing you need to stop is lying. Black people are less privileged, it's you who's very much privileged if you don't have anything as a white person it means you've been sleeping while there was a loot Pre 1994
This is a familiar tale unfortunately from most South African youth. I used to work at a Bank and l met a Civil Engineering graduate who worked at KFC. The scarcity of jobs has people taking any job to feed their families, even though it's not their aligned with their career goals or qualifications
@@wayne6512 wtf are you even talking about?
I must say the gentleman who took a tour with you is worth it.. he represented and excelled.. . Thank you man and thank you Sonny for choosing SA
This whole channel, is the perfect example of sharing experiences without bias, with respect, and kindness.
I have seen many food explorers, giving horrible, disrespectful, and misunderstood opinions when it comes to anything slightly different.
Sonny is the most amazing and perfect food traveler i have ever seen.
He's incredibly disrespectful with many of his offensive clickbait video titles. Shameful.
@@drchopsit's not clickbait. The title states what people say, meanwhile the actions of sonny and his adventures prove those same people to be wrong. He's showing you what people think and say versus the reality of the places he goes.
The production and editing for these just keep getting better and better! I really appreciate all the work your team is putting in with the videos.
Sonny really breaks down cultural barriers with absolute respect.

You're right.. It's a beautiful thing
And yet there are still tons of idiots going on about him not being respectful on most his videos. It’s so dumb he is respectful

i was apprehensive about watching the series on South Africa being a citizen myself because i felt it'll be portrayed in a light that i didn't like. I've mastered the courage to watch and I am happy i did, its awesome to see that despite the challenges some people are making things happen, communities that most of us have written off have people who live in them and are trying to better themselves.
