As a south African I think I speak for everyone when I say McDonald's is the least interesting place to go to so i'd highly recommend anything else but that😂, only reason I ever go there is if I really just need a quick meal and there are no lines. And big ups for playing the random "african" songs we don't even know or like😂, love your videos by the way ❤️
same here in Canada.. people usually only go to McD's as a last resort or when they are too broke to afford anything else... except me. I like McD's myself lol
I'm so happy that Sonny finally made it to my home country - South Africa! You have to love his personality and how he wants to learn about different cultures and particularly their food. He is such a big inspiration!
Traditional South African breakfast for me. 1. Slap Mieliepap with butter, sugar and milk. 2. Bacon/ Boerewors, eggs, fried tomato, fried mushrooms and lastly toast with appelkoos konfyt and a lot of butter. 3. Ouma beskuit or your Ouma se beskuit. All meals accompanied by a cup of moerkoffie or rooibos tea. Perfection.
I'd say the best example of a South African breakfast is at Mugg&Bean (a sit-down casual chain). It's two eggs, bacon, boerewors, grilled tomato, a hash brown, and toast with the option of adding a sweetcorn fritter (which I'd argue might be more "traditional than a hash brown, in the same way an American breakfast would be more traditional with a Johny cake), peri peri chicken livers (don't diss it til you try it - amazing hangover food), and/or a small steak.
I grew up in Soweto and my favourite South African breakfast will always be fermented sorghum porridge with tons of sugar. My late grandma used to make if for us and it's heavenly. Sadly, I have not had this in years. On the weekends (and when we were in the mood), my family would have scrambled eggs, fried vienna sausage, french polony or russian sausage with some baked beans. This was normally eaten with plain bread (hence the plain bread buns in the McDonald's breakfast). Not big on coffee so the preferred beverage for me was rooibos tea with sugar and coffee creamer or juice. A typical South African breakfast is either a maize or oat porridge with sugar, butter and milk, some kind of commercial cereal like corn flakes with milk, amagwinya/vetkoek either plain or with sides or a hot breakfast of some sort with fried or boiled eggs, bread/toast and any variety of sides. Beverages are typically coffee, tea or juice.
Breakfast for us usually is Boerewors (or Bacon, depends on your mood) with some egg (literally anyway you like an egg), some slices of tomato, caramalized onions, mushrooms and toast. Butter and Jam with the toast (some people like Bovril or Marmite with the toast instead of Jam). I can recommend Wimpie (breakfast restaurant) breakfast to give you a proper idea
i'm not south african but i lived in cape town for a while up until the pandemic hit in 2020. the most fascinating foods were definitely bunny chow and the gatsby (and the worms in the kirstenbosch botanical gardens restaurant). everyday i think about how much i miss those flavour loaded fries and the jalapeno cheese poppers from mcdonalds

I feel like no one in SA orders that macdonalds breakfast with the scrambled eggs and dry bun 😂 also we don’t have a Taco Bell 🥲 but love that you came to SA!
So rad that you are here! Keen to see you try more uniquely South African food. Like OG boerewors😂 not the McDonald's kind. Also McDonald's here is halal to cater for the people of our "rainbow nation". So no pork. For a quick brekkie we have a biscuit called a rusk with tea. Please give that a go as its my favorite. My grandad also painted the ouma painting for the Ouma brand rusks. So it's very special to me. Please also try walkie talkies, bunny chow, a proper braai and potjie.
The mega mcmuffin and fold over are also my two favourite items on the menu here in South Africa, I really miss the Mexican Burger and The Big Tasty Burger (not to be confused with the Big N Tasty) they are completely different.
Welcome to South Africa Sonny ❤🇿🇦 we think you should try some of our best dishes like a bunny chow (I would go to Spice Kitchen in jhb or get a real one in Durban if you’re headed there!). You can skip the bobotie. Have an awesome time here! Keri and Dom ❤
Here in the USA, when I get a McDonald’s Big Breakfast, I split the biscuit, put the butter and jelly on it, then the sausage, then the hash browns, then the scrambled eggs, and eat it like a big sandwich. I eat the pancakes separately. But I suppose you could use the pancakes for a sandwich also!
Please please please do. As your number 1 SA fan this is an early Christmas present. Following you (and only you, because everyone else is now boring)faithfully. I'm SO excited! If you happen to mention when you are coming to the Waterfront I might um, bump into you.
My favorite McD breakfast is the boerie hashbrown stack. For lunch or dinner, my son lives the McFeast, and I prefer the chicken foldover. As for traditional South African breakfast: many of us do something very much like the full english (eggs, bacon, grilled tomato, bangers, toast with jam and, sometimes, baked beans) if we are going all out, some will sub in some boerewors in place of the pork bangers or other sausage to make it halaal with macon instead of the bacon. Simple traditional breakfast in the home? Pap (grits) or oatmeal (Jungle Oats rules!), maybe eggs and toast or a cereal...
Just a thought, I love seeing and trying new foods from all over the world but one of my favorite parts that pulls the experience together for me is what they drink there as well, just another way to immerse us in new cultures!!!
Hey Sunny!! Can't believe you're finally in South Africa, we welcome you with open arms, I want you to try things that are only exclusive to South Africa such as Hungry Lion, Gatsbys(also known as subway) and many more. The thing with our food is that it's so MIXED, like you guys might have cereal or toast, we have it way different, so try EVERYTHING!!❤️

yes me living in south afrika my whole life the breakfast is almost like that with a boerewors (farmers sosage) and toast and stuff so you are pretty close to the south afrikan breakfast all it needs is putu pap
Hi sonny. Welcome to SA finally!! I'm a traditional Mosotho girl, one of the tribes here in SA and I would like to show you another side of our culture here in South Africa. From townships to villages! Let me know...!
Hi Sunny. A shoutout here from South Africa. Our breakfasts are nothing like what Mc D's offers. We usually have 2 pan-fried eggs, streak bacon, and toast. there are variations with fried mushrooms or fries but the base is always eggs, bacon, and toast or a slice of ciabatta bread.
I've had Indian food from India, it's so much better than South African Indian food. I would definitely be a vegetarian if I lived in India, they have amazing flavours without any meat.
Sonny we have a big British influence in our food. So our breakfast normallly is egg (however you like it) with baked beans, fried tomato, sometimes fried mushrooms or a fried banana. Bacon and with our without flap jacks and maple serup. Served with toast or fries. Yum! But on other days I also love a classic eggs bennedict, with or without the baked beans on the side lol
Hi Sonny, I am so Glad you are in South Africa and I am currently working on a documentary detailing the Spices and the different cuisines brought in by the 1860 Indentured Laborers and the medicinal value of the spices used in modern day. I am based in Durban so if you are here, would love you to join us and try some of the best Indian Cuisine here and give your viewers a brief history lesson on the Indian Culture here in South Africa. Hope to hear from you soon!!!
In all honesty as a South African 😂😂😂I've only just realised that our McD uses a lot of tomato sauce 🥫it's not called ketchup here we as the people call it tomato sauce 😂😂😂😂, personally I prefer eating grilled meat and pap (chisa nyama) you should try it it's really good and filling😋😋
Yes! The McMuffin and the Foldover are my favorite. I remember when I was a kid and McDonald's came to South Africa. Their food was really bland and the burgers were really dry but, they've come along way since then. My favorite place has become Burger King.
I'M SOUTH AFRICAN AND I LOVED THIS REVIEW. ON POINT! btw, the south african breakfast could be better because the breakfasts we make are way more vibey than that.
Who said it was ..pretty sure everyone knows it's a american company. The video is about items on the south african mrnue that isn't on the american one.what are you even talking about
Why are idiots on the internet.. KFC has fokol to do with black people bro the logo is a white guy they offer pap to make you toe and keep you buying 😂
I'm South African and I've been waiting years to see you film here. This was not it though. Hoping you do a proper tour and epsiode. Cape Town has some seriously epic food experiences!
You should have gone to Spur or Wimpy for a traditional breakfast, going to McDonalds in South Africa is like going to the worst junk food. Another thing to try is an oxtail potjie which is the best potjie to have. In Cape Town you should try a gatsby because that is where it originated not to mention the different options you get. The best one has always been in Grassy Park. Not to mention the curries and the fish and chips found in Durban as well as Cape Town. Had you have asked me I could have helped with idea's because I love eating and cooking food.
We had in Ontario, Canada a "big breakfast" scrambled egg, sausage patty, English muffin, hashbrown, jam and or PB. It was my favorite breakfast menu item. When the covid times hit the "streamlined" the menu for health and safety reasons, I still await the day that it returns. They also had back in the day a "big big breakfast" same as above with hotcakes and syrup added
I also live in Toronto..and compared to other countries the "big breakfast" is trash..it not even great to begin with..I would rather hit up any other hreakfast spot in the city (which will definetly taste better and bigger portions)
O my word , wish I knew you were coming to South Africa , much better places to visit then Mc Donald's, lol you HAVE to have a Durban Curry or a bunny chow from KNK Currys in Richards bay,and then you have to experience a real south African BRAAI !!!! That is a must
Definitely Try a wimpy breakfast! There is a ton of local cafes that will provide you with a good South African breakfast!! And yes normally a grilled tomato is a solid on our plates for breakfast 😅
I live in South Africa 🇿🇦 there isn’t really a traditional breakfast here it’s more just porridge, weetabix and corn flakes and other cereal 🥣 so nothing really special
Why I don't eat McD's or why the videos make me glad I don't? The answer to both is health, cost and I can do it better for less and feed more. This channel has helped understand how to apply fermentation and ingredients to my everyday life. After a tick bite that almost killed me I can't eat much that hasn't been prepared properly so everything fast food and restaurants sell makes my illness worse.
you should definitely try the mcdonald’s in Poland. I feel like you’d be very happy with that menu :) i love going when i visit my family it’s so much better than the US
We usually eat an English breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon, tomato, toast, sometimes steak too and we add caramelized banana. Bananas, halved in lengths, browned and caramelized in butter. Or we eat scrambled eggs with wither steak and kindness or Liver and onions s wrapped and fried in caul fat and eaten with Worcester shire sauce. Yum!

I feel like no one in SA orders that macdonalds breakfast with the scrambled eggs and dry bun 😂 also we don’t have a Taco Bell 🥲 but love that you came to SA!
So happy to see that at least someone notices South Africa🇿🇦
So rad that you are here! Keen to see you try more uniquely South African food. Like OG boerewors😂 not the McDonald's kind. Also McDonald's here is halal to cater for the people of our "rainbow nation". So no pork.
For a quick brekkie we have a biscuit called a rusk with tea. Please give that a go as its my favorite. My grandad also painted the ouma painting for the Ouma brand rusks. So it's very special to me. Please also try walkie talkies, bunny chow, a proper braai and potjie.
Sonny is sooooooo funny 😂😂👏🏼👏🏼
Can we all appreciate the fact that SONNY never disappointed us with his content. 👍👍👍

Production value of this show is insane! The amount of dedication put into every video is crazy! Keep up the good work
its half the effort
? its a mcdonalds vlog? O.o bought comment?
@@GanjazThey’re living in your walls 😮😮😮😮
@@Ganjaz bought comment lmao, I just think that the production value of his channel in general is very high
@@kanefox898 its not nearly high enough for this praise
The mega mcmuffin and fold over are also my two favourite items on the menu here in South Africa, I really miss the Mexican Burger and The Big Tasty Burger (not to be confused with the Big N Tasty) they are completely different.
Funny thing about me is I always add ketchup and a hashbrown to my English muffin 😋 I don’t get sausage tho I get Canadian bacon and bacon 🥓
Like literally, who cares for bobotie😂😂
i love bobotie ngl
@@chokaylatte the majority is tired if hearing about this dodoti.
Here in the USA, when I get a McDonald’s Big Breakfast, I split the biscuit, put the butter and jelly on it, then the sausage, then the hash browns, then the scrambled eggs, and eat it like a big sandwich. I eat the pancakes separately. But I suppose you could use the pancakes for a sandwich also!
it’s the only way
Only breakfast is the steak egg n cheese bagel. Throw a hashbrown in it.
Hi Sonny you should definitely come to the Western Cape they have the best seafood here and it is also very pretty❤️
By the time this is filmed he’s already shot all the footage and he’s already in another country
The thing with our food is that it's so MIXED, like you guys might have cereal or toast, we have it way different, so try EVERYTHING!!❤️
hi zoya.please note a gatsby has got nothing to do with as you mentioned 'subway'
@@shaunbenjamin7381 🤠
You should try steers it's a restaurant in South Africa that has some delicious big burgers and you should try cream soda its a drink that isint available in european countries but thx for visiting my home

You should also go to menlon mall Pretoria it's a gigantic place filled with different restaurants you might want to try.
You can go go karting, eating ,watch a movie, go to a spa game stop and more and has a garden.

yes me living in south afrika my whole life the breakfast is almost like that with a boerewors (farmers sosage) and toast and stuff so you are pretty close to the south afrikan breakfast all it needs is putu pap
Hi sonny. Welcome to SA finally!! I'm a traditional Mosotho girl, one of the tribes here in SA and I would like to show you another side of our culture here in South Africa. From townships to villages! Let me know...!
So excited and proud that you’re visiting South Africa Sonny 😄😄
Eggs bacon and toast? Sounds like the same breakfast everywhere else lol
@@AcidAroma We aren't known for our breakfast lmao.
We pretty much eat a similar breakfast to the full English breakfast.. depending on ethnicity tho
As a South African, I am disappointed in the way you said “Boerie” 😂😂 Love your channel, amazing to see South Africa!
yeah. he should have said Boo-Ree and rolled the R a little more
Finally he’s in South Africa 😭♥️
Loved that the chicken foldover’s “easy remove” strip failed to open easily ! 😂 I’m yet to open one successfully without destroying the packaging
I thought I was the only one
I’m in South Africa 🇿🇦 ty for doing this
I love that you are not a food snob! Thanks for taking time to showcase everyday food for the every day person!
The comments here are refreshingly free of food snobs.
Huge fan! So glad you made it to our country. Don't judge us on MacDs! Try South African Indian food, it's better than India Indian food 😜
Sonny, come home, Devanisha will cook you a meal. We'll schedule you in during our non-loadshedding times.
It was nice to meet you, the mc donanalds foldover is the best, Oreo ice-cream for dessert 😊 I wish to see you again in South Africa 🇿🇦
Yes! That sounds exciting, I would love to see that!!!❤
I think he already left.
@thefunnychef posted about him 2months ago working on a episode
In all honesty as a South African 😂😂😂I've only just realised that our McD uses a lot of tomato sauce 🥫it's not called ketchup here we as the people call it tomato sauce 😂😂😂😂, personally I prefer eating grilled meat and pap (chisa nyama) you should try it it's really good and filling😋😋
6:35 ❤Should have tried the cheesecake passion fruit McFlurry but let me guess the machine wasn't working
7:54 I've seen this man literally eat a whole live fish dipped in sauce and he still didn't look THIS upset. 😂
Yes! The McMuffin and the Foldover are my favorite. I remember when I was a kid and McDonald's came to South Africa. Their food was really bland and the burgers were really dry but, they've come along way since then. My favorite place has become Burger King.
They all terrible
I'M SOUTH AFRICAN AND I LOVED THIS REVIEW. ON POINT! btw, the south african breakfast could be better because the breakfasts we make are way more vibey than that.
I'm from U.K and I would much rather try any home cooked food there than McDonald's 👍👍
Never been this early 😂 ... I hope someday Sony come visit my country Algeria ( biggest country in Africa) I would love to give him a tour..
We have the mighty muffin in Australia as well, I get it without the spicy ketchup.
Nothing about McDonald's is South African. KFC is more South African they offer Pap.
Who said it was ..pretty sure everyone knows it's a american company. The video is about items on the south african mrnue that isn't on the american one.what are you even talking about
@@Queenmebonnietalk to him
True story. Even the boerie patty doesn't look like wors.
Why are idiots on the internet.. KFC has fokol to do with black people bro the logo is a white guy they offer pap to make you toe and keep you buying 😂
I'm south African and never seen pap on the menu
South Africa McDonald's makes there menu way better than American McDonald's entire menu
I'm South African and I've been waiting years to see you film here. This was not it though. Hoping you do a proper tour and epsiode. Cape Town has some seriously epic food experiences!
Hold on.. we in North West also have great food too.
And also joburg
Im in Cape Town and i've never seen these food items at our McDonalds. Been to 6 different ones in the area between CT CBD and Winelands
I am genuinely impressed with McDonalds ability to commercial local cuisines, rebrand and remarket them.
I love the guilty look on your face each time you say "i'm going to have to try that too" when mentioning fast food items.
ha ha yes, ashamed and excited at the same time
lol
You should have gone to Spur or Wimpy for a traditional breakfast, going to McDonalds in South Africa is like going to the worst junk food. Another thing to try is an oxtail potjie which is the best potjie to have. In Cape Town you should try a gatsby because that is where it originated not to mention the different options you get. The best one has always been in Grassy Park. Not to mention the curries and the fish and chips found in Durban as well as Cape Town. Had you have asked me I could have helped with idea's because I love eating and cooking food.
The Spicy Mcfeast is the only burger on the menu that is worth a thought.
I agree 1000%
South African brekkie is very similar to a traditional English breakfast. Can't skimp on the tomato :)
The sandwich bun though.
@@BlackJesus8463 lol I almost cried mate
@@eezpeaz 🤣🤣👍
Look for smaller diners or pubs, they may have a similar big breakfast.
It's been over 15 years since I ate at McDonald's and each one of your McDonald's videos convinces me not to go back ever again lol.
i wonder y
Why I don't eat McD's or why the videos make me glad I don't? The answer to both is health, cost and I can do it better for less and feed more. This channel has helped understand how to apply fermentation and ingredients to my everyday life. After a tick bite that almost killed me I can't eat much that hasn't been prepared properly so everything fast food and restaurants sell makes my illness worse.
you should definitely try the mcdonald’s in Poland. I feel like you’d be very happy with that menu :) i love going when i visit my family it’s so much better than the US
legend
Generally European Mc Donalds is better than its US Conterpart due to higher Food-quality
No because Americans fuckig ruin it by saturating the comments with “food is healthier in Europe” comments
I know I'm not the only one who is always curious about what happens to the food that he barely finishes😂😂
PROBABLY GIVES IT TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS IT OR THROWS IT IN TRASH BIN
You got to see the crew Something 😂
We usually eat an English breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon, tomato, toast, sometimes steak too and we add caramelized banana. Bananas, halved in lengths, browned and caramelized in butter. Or we eat scrambled eggs with wither steak and kindness or Liver and onions s wrapped and fried in caul fat and eaten with Worcester shire sauce. Yum!
