Well, as clearly seen in his Egypt trip fiasco, you can't make gold out of s*it, so there are clearly nice things to see in South Africa, even though there are some problems there as well. There are very few perfect places in the world, what really matters is people willing to work on making things better.
Thank you Sonny for exploring a bit of our culture and food in this episode and sharing it with others. PS... I wish that you could have tried (or will still try) some of our desserts, like malva poeding, melkkos, melktert, koeksisters etc.
I have eaten proper Afrikaner food as I lived in Pretoria for 2 years. I’m surprised because these guys used a lot of seasoning. The food I’ve tasted was, from old tannies admittedly, but very simple seasoning, like salt and pepper, with the focus on the ingredient itself, but surprisingly very tasty like it come straight from the garden. My fav is home-made condensed milk rusks and those pumpkin fritters made with cinnamon and brown sugar !

Interesting fact Sonny, the Afrikaans language has the nickname Kitchen Dutch, because it originates back to the slaves that used to work in the Kitchens of the early settlers who were a mix of Dutch, German, and one or two other European countries. This Afrikaans was born as a mix of all of these languages 👌🌻
Actually Kitchen Dutch had aspects of Maleyu, KhoeKhoen languages, etc as well. What we know as Afrikaans now is what was standardised later. Many words from Maleyu and the Khoekhoen people were removed to favour a more Dutch origin. After all, most of the slaves were maleyu, khoi, etc.
Every Afrikaner considers themselves South African, first and foremost. It's our primary identity and we're proud of it. Afrikaner culture is just the background to our South African-ness. Thanks for showcasing our country. Your pronunciation was on point! Very impressed.
@@hlengiwemasondo2858 I personally do. But globally often people think of labels like 'African' or 'Asian' as racial indicators instead of geographical indicators. So it seems strange to some to call Russians 'Asians', for example. My family has been in South Africa since the 1600s. I would never think of myself as 'European.' So I consider myself African, but if a black person objects to that, I would totally understand. The South African identity is complex.

@Zaheer Coovadia There are tons of biomes in Argentina too, you have rain forest in the NE, desert in the NW, grasslands in the center, glaciers down south. It's a big country. Beautiful work Sonny, thanks for capturing our country so wonderfully❣️
Well, as clearly seen in his Egypt trip fiasco, you can't make gold out of s*it, so there are clearly nice things to see in South Africa, even though there are some problems there as well. There are very few perfect places in the world, what really matters is people willing to work on making things better.

As a South African, I personally think everyone should try biltong. It's just better.
Bloody ,bloody hell.!! I'm an ex South African commercial farmer ,left to come to the UK 14 Years ago , still have Mrs.Balls in my kitchen and still do my potjie!
Haha we Afrikaners (obviously generalizing) call the Namibian Germans Kitchen Germans. lol
You mean the malay slaves? or you just going to ignore them?
Some say Dutch is kitchen German. Quite insulting.
@@jankaapstad9595Everything is insulting to someone 😂
Do they consider themselves African? I've always wondered

Always surprised me how South African farms look so similar to Argentinean haciendas. If you showed me a picture of their house, without the Kudu skulls, and told me it's from Argentina I'd believe you. This video made me super nostalgic.
@Zaheer Coovadia There are tons of biomes in Argentina too, you have rain forest in the NE, desert in the NW, grasslands in the center, glaciers down south. It's a big country. I meant more the architecture of the house and such. It just looks similar and it's not the first time I notice it. Don't ask me why.
@@hindsight27 Was just about to comment this! Interestingly, the Afrikaans/Argentinian interpretation of the word 'airport' isn't 'lughawe' but, 'vliegtuigstasie'. How cool is that!

This is the beautiful heritage of South Africa. I am a black south african and I'm proud of the diversity we have inherited in spite of an ugly period in our history. With faith, patience and a lot of sacrifice we achieved the unthinkable. Now we all have a shared responsibility to safeguard it from the rogue and foreign tendencies of mercantile shenanigans parading as the saviour of our economy and livelihood. Survival of our shared heritage rests on us learning to invest on our own home grown and share it with the rest of the world.
