Congratulations on sticking with this project. Sometimes it seems that restoration projects will never end. What you are doing is a good example of how persistence pays off in the end. Keep up the good work.
A couple of weeks ago at the landing, I saw a guy with this same boat and was really impressed with its condition. It was easy to see the boat had been well cared for. I hope the engine works out.
I just finished doing a 91 Kingfisher 196. 200 mercury new power head new seats and carpet and new electronics. Still finishing the gel coat polish and detail. And a new 70# thrust Motorguide. Took a month of busy work
If the engine needs to be rebuilt. You are probably looking at $5000.00. When My oil injector stopped working and burnt up my 1991 Mercury Black Max.. I checked with a couple of boat shops for a good used engine. I got a 2005 Mercury EFI 200hp for $4000.00. So now I have a fuel injected engine to go with my mostly restored 1991 Pro Craft 192 Pro. Everything is done except the dash panels. I do a little bit every December and January. When it's to cold to fish. As far as the clear coat. Use that electric Dual Action sander with 220 grit then move up to 800 grit wet sand to 1500 then to 2000 grit. Buff with a buffer and light buffing compound. The boat will shine. this is my 3rd Bass boat to restore. On my dash I am removing all the gauges and buying 1 big gauge that gives you everything and putting that where the old round depth finder went off to the right side and the center dash I am mounting a Lowrance HDS 7 in the dash. I don't have pictures of my boat on my work laptop. Otherwise, I would post. You are doing a great Job love your videos!!
I’ve missed your working on it! Let’s see if you can get that motor running or get an inexpensive used motor for it! Cause this thing (basscat boat) I love. Your talent to work on stuff is amazing! I could watch you restore a 100 things. An your very lucky that your lady helps you so much. She has grown on me too, by just the way she pitches in an never says a word just works! So thanks for all this stuff! You restore an eye I’ll keep watching! Thanks for your time on things Jeff
Stator, pulser coil, rectifier. One or all of them. One goes bad it can damage another. Not sure if that old motor has all three but it's definitely One or another
Right, it’s not firing on all cylinders. A simple spark gap tester would show which cylinders have weak spark. Basically a little troubleshooting with a spark tester and a multimeter would tell everything.
I have this same boat but different year, one of my biggest complaints is the lack of cup holders, take out the middle seat and put in a center console like a car/truck
Keep the boat as long as you can afford it. I do the same thing you do as far as my channel. I have struggled for years with the idea of selling my boat but here I am 6 years later and still upgrading it lol. it just keeps getting the job done. For me personally it doesn't make sense just yet to trade or sell to upgrade but back to you I'm not sure where you are located but I drive 2 to 3 hours one way to some places I go fishing. And say you do want to upgrade you will get alot more if it's a ready to go vessel. There is a point to cut your losses though I'd say the boat running fish ready is worth 6 to 8k so a new or used motor would put you out of economicly being able to sell for profit. Also there is a point of the content in generates as well but like the channel and iv given you a ton of watch time 😎
How much of that EVA foam do you have laying around? What if your skinned those too white seat lids in that foam. That way it would at leas color wise match off with the boat.
Hey brother! Brian and family from Spokane washington. Dang! We love all of your videos and your updates. Super inspirational! Absolutely love it when new videos come out. Thanks for all you do
@@TightlineTV there are very few people that have the motivation. Inspiration. And finances to tackle a job like this. It's been a super fun journey to watch!
Yo I had a bass cat saber basically almost the same brand mine was a 1990 I had a Evinrude 150 V6 vro and it ran half of the time it ran pretty good your’s a 1996 and it doesn’t run??!!??
You need to buy a carb rebuild kit, rebuild the carbs yourself, and check the bulb direction, and change those cheap fuel lines it could be collapsing and sucking itself dry. There is nothing wrong with that motor. The mechanic could be honest or he could be a hack and tell you it needs 5 million things. For an engine to run. 3 basic things, fuel, air and spark. It seems you have all 3 now. Rebuild the carbs with new gaskets because you can't spray carb cleaner in an open carb it destroys and warps the rubber seals. Also I mentioned in one of the other videos to get a pair of plastic spark plug pliers. Pull the plugs and clean them with carb cleaner and let them dry out 20 min. Put the plugs back in and put all the wires back on. Then pull one wire off at a time with the pliers while the engine is running and hold the wire close to the spark plug very close to the tip and you should see a spark fly out and hit the plug and notice a difference in how it runs. The one that you see no spark and difference in the way it runs put a new plug and coil pack on that cylinder, I feel like there all good and you are loosing vaccum because you opened the carbs, soaked them and sprayed them in carb cleaner, you never use carb cleaner on rubber seals in a carburetor. If you change all this gaskets I think thats the issue as your loosing suction at the bulb , if your loosing suction at the bulb your carbs aren't holding suction, its the carb gaskets and seals . Never spray the carb with. Are cleaner when the carb is opened up, kills all seals. Only spray carb cleaner when the carbs are on and it's running. Also be sure to check your bulb direction, and like I said those cheap fuel lines could be collapsing on itself cutting fuel flow, and also loosen the cap on the fuel tank as the new epa caps don't work and that can create no vaccum as well so always crack the cap
Hey brother, I know this is unrelated (somewhat), but I'd like to have your opinion on the matter; Do you believe that a bassboat DO really need such high output outboards (120+hp) or could they do with lower output ones like a 50hp 2 stroke? I'm asking this because I could possibly buy a somewhat cheap bass boat (Stratos 273 Vindicator) from someone near me, and it doesn't come with an outboard, just the hull and trailer... and I own a 1988 Johnson 50hp 2 stroke outboard... I don't do long distance travels with my boats (less than 50km) and I don't really mind going slow (I'm used to "chaloupes" which are like pointy jonboats with a 9.9 or 15hp... so... yeah...) Do you think I should pull the trigger or will my 50hp hate me forever?
Jeez! I'm so jealous of you right now! I wish I could own a true bass boat just like that, but over here they are SOOOOO expensive (decent ones are over 20 000$, and just about 6 hours west of here, they are around 4 or 5 000$ for ones with non working outboards). I'm not a white color kind of guy on anything, cause I live in a country town basically, but that's so sexy!
Did you use rubber washers between the boat and trolling motor. My motor came with them. Also be careful with the boat mechanics. A boat dealer place told me I needed a complete rebuild. I cleaned the low speed jets on the carbs and ran that motor for 21years. If you have decent compression rebuilding will do little to make the engine run better.
You will really enjoy the recessed foot pedal tray. Need to change the white paint that the seats sit on. I would go with a darker color. Put a disconnect in the bilge area for your trolling motor wires and hard wire it in up front.
ON THE ISSUE OF YOUR PROPERTY AT THE CROSSING WHERE THE OLD LADY AND THE MAN AND HIS DOGS WERE PUT A HUGE SIGN UP SAYING PRIVATE PROPERTY TRESSPASSERS WOULD BE PROSSACUTED ALSO SAY ITS BEING MONITORED
There are two forward deck panels that you removed just in front of the driver console which are the deck extension panels. I would be interested in buying those from you if you will not be using them.
fish don't about the color of the seat bases...they do care about the lure selection and color. just fish...jk finish the boat in whatever way suits you.
Worst case that motor needs some carb work or a power head the most important thing is the compression is solid

Thank you Jeff! Appreciate it
It would be cool to see you do some review type videos on your favourite fishing products as well as info on techniques to get better at fishing!
If I'm not mistaken, Bass Cat was the first with a recessed foot area for the TM.
Correct!
For the love of god man, it’s your stator and trigger!! Classic and common Johnson and Evinrude issue!
I agree had same motor had to replace both.
I’m surprised no one else has told him yet but i agree. I have a 200 started with weak spark at idle and got worse from there.
Stator, pulser coil, rectifier. One or all of them. One goes bad it can damage another. Not sure if that old motor has all three but it's definitely One or another

I said this 4 videos ago. If only he read my comments smh
I am liking the boat build! I think you should take it out on a trolling motor only lake (if there are any in your area)
I have this same boat but different year, one of my biggest complaints is the lack of cup holders, take out the middle seat and put in a center console like a car/truck

I'd paint the seat bases the same color as the EVA foam. Or the grey in the seats.
Very cool. Getting ready to fire up a similar project on a 95 pantera ll
That is great. I never knew that either and I have had bass boats since 1981
How much of that EVA foam do you have laying around? What if your skinned those too white seat lids in that foam. That way it would at leas color wise match off with the boat.
I thought about this. I do have a lot laying around!
You should look into getting a Tightline TV wrap on the boat.

She gave you a great trade for the trolling motor

I agree with Dan Hawkins re: paint color.
Try using Bass Pro hull cleaner to clean with
You doing that job on it brother it's really looking good I mean it's really looking good you take care have a blessed day and be safe out there 🙏

I know it’s making the engine not run good I had this problem before it’s the VRO

You should do modifications to the jet ski to make it a fishing jet ski
Ah nothing like restoring a boat that barely needs a restore. Good stuff.
Any updates on the boat
Make a part 16 I’m begging you
We’re all ready for an update.

Yes, trolling motor has washers
Are there any new updates on the Bass Cat?

Will do!
Great kob on boat wasnt sure you could do it its worth a better engine fuel injection you will love fuel consumption of injection
Make a part 16!

Just did my hatches with carpet on my Nitro, that painted on crap doesn’t last and flakes bad
Why in the world have there not been an recent videos on this boat? Ghosted us on it ....

Do the seats actually attach to anything
Yes, just haven’t attached them so to color decisions on seat lids
It’s January already
Match the paint to the seat covers
It’s April
You mounted the trolling motor wrong
Did I ? What I do w r o n g ?
Match the gray on the sea deck.
