The 85mm F1.4 Lens is sometimes seen as an easy way to do street photography, Why? Simply put it's hard to take a bad photo with it.
The 85mm F1.4 allows you to take a portrait forward lens onto the streets and capture lifestyle street photography.
On other benefit is that at 85mm you don't have to be too close to your subject in order to get their photo.
Let me know in the comments what you think of the 85mm F1.4, i've been using it for many years now and it's still my go to easy lens when I'm wanting a relaxing wander around the streets of a city.

Good work! Something I notice repeatedly in watching others' vids as well as something I do myself... I'm a professional driver and a principle they constantly remind us of in our regular education videos and classes in a situation called "inattention blindness". It can apply anywhere, but in driving it's the act of being so focused on one hazard that you totally miss another; and yes I've done it... ugh! But in photography I mostly see it when we as photographers are setting up and waiting in a setting for a certain series of events or persons to come across a scene. We so often miss the myriad other things that often happen right before our eyes. At around 7:30 in this video you were waiting in the street in front of the McDonald's for a bus to pass and a horde of people crossed and you didn't shoot any of them. Now, of course, this is easy for me to judge sitting on my couch, sipping some really good coffee, and being able to rewind, (and I'm not judging, just notice something I'm guilty of. 😊) Just a thought. Thanks for your work, I enjoy you greatly!

AND... I love my 85mm 1.8 in the street. That, my 28-75mm, 24-105mm and 55mm are my shooters of choice with occasional 70-180mm.
I am 100% quality of this as is everyone as you know. It’s good to be conscious of it for sure which I try to be. One reason for this at this specific location is I was actually there two days before and got the shots I wanted including the one you’re talking about so during my second visit my aim / intention was directed to something else. But for sure I am guilty of this I get comments saying “you missed this / that etc” in various videos and I watch it back and sure enough, there it is! A banging photo just sitting there waiting while I blindly look at the frame I have in my head. 😂 hope you enjoyed your coffee 🫡
@@Opticalwander I did enjoy the coffee. I can only imagine how much I would miss, were I doing videos like this. The ladies sitting on the floor when you were in the covered walkway were some others that would've been interesting to sneak shots of. Thanks again for your work

I really wish I got into photography sooner, I had the privilege of going to china for my first real trip in 2010 with a friend for 3 months and aside for a photo of me at the harbour with the family city scape I have zero memories to look back on. One day I will go back and do exactly what you’re showing in this video ! Much love from Canada
oh man, I was lucky enough to get my hands on the RF version of the lens before canon put a stop to third party lenses. I absolutely love it! I use it for everything. Great video! got me thinking of new shots and ways to use the lens. Thank you!

Always fun to mix things up, with tight and wide. When I shoot at 90mm equivalent, I am using an Olympus 45mm lens on a MFT camera. You get the telephoto look, within more in focus, unless shooting wider open. I really prefer the whole story look on most images, as in a none blurred out background. There are shots for sure which need that razor sharp emphasis, with not need for the surround. As for easiest, I used to think it was the 50mm, and technically it is from a geometry to compositional ease, but after buying a 40mm used with the full frame Nikon Z5, I am now thinking it can be a best of both worlds, as in that extra width to get a little closer and view the moment wider, but without the distortions of a 28mm, or even a 35mm. Alas, with some challenge to the brain, using different widths, the end results can be really rewarding -- that super wide, or the zoomed in look from 75mm to 135mm range. A common problem however is if you are up close, in the middle of something going on, and have say a narrow 85mm, what will you do --- you miss the shot, or choose a section. Thus I will say the 75mm on is great rendering, but you are ever so aware you will just be too darn close at times to get it all in. For across the street shots -- yea, I agree, it works. For special looks, Saul Leiter and Ernst Haas like photos, then yep, pretty cool. The 40 or 50mm is the easiest, with 28, 35 and 85mm the greater challenge, IMO. Thanks for a great video, Loren

I have a Sony 90mm F2.8 that I love (especially for macro), but I find that for street I'm quite often too close to subjects/can't get everything I want in frame. I've just picked up the 40mm f2.5 though, so I'll see how that goes instead. 😄

I would like to take pictures, but how can I train my vision/eyes so that they can see a simple thing worth taking pictures of? I look around and don't see anything that would make a good picture. I don't live in a city, I live in a very small village. 😢🥺. I have canon 1300D and 50mm f 1.8
this was my issue before, but the way I did it was looking into a subject with a different perspective and details. maybe a road where you can bring your camera to the same level, or a hole where you can shoot from it. I also watch a lot of POV to get ideas, which what I'm doing now.
Think about light at different times of the day or in different weather conditions. There is a spot near me that is great in the mornings when the rising sun hits its eastern facing side. There is another place is good at sunset in the late spring through early fall. The rest of the year the sun sets too far to the south. Become an expert in what is around you.
If you think what is around you is boring, consider that your familiarity with it might color your opinion. Desert sage might be mundane in my region but exotic to someone else. Use photography to look at your mundane in a new way.
Go out one day and just shoot e.g. something with red or yellow... Next time focus on shadows, next time focus on lines, and so on. Like this you can learn. You can also search for assignment cards
Some really really good answers 👆🏼 I don’t have much more to add, from my opinion I would say it’s perspective. The more you think you can’t find good frames / good photos the less good frames you’ll see. This might sound silly but if you’re struggling to see frames you can always take a small picture frame out and that might help you in-vision the frames around you.
If you live in a small village, there must be some interesting people around. A local Cafe or something where you might find an old man with his classic hat or a lady with interesting features etc. Candid shots or some street portraits perhaps

I like your videos so much, I always feel so inspired to go out again to take pictures, until I realize that I live in Germany and don't want the stress with germans who get upset because they just see a camera...

85 is my favourite focal length for street.
i have the sigma 56mm (85 FF eqv), its my 2nd favourite lens.
I have the Nikon 50mm F 1.4 for the Nikon DSLR F Mount I use it on my Nikon D5500

do you have a favourite brand of lens? I always hear people bashing on Samyang and even Tamron, and just wanting Sigma or Sony lenses.

Nope, I have Samyang / Tamron / Sony and they all work perfectly fine for me.
The sigma 85mm is slightly sharper than the Samyang but not by much and it’s also more expensive so the extra sharpness which is not even noticeable isn’t worth the cost.
I’m a strong believer of buying what’s affordable and taking good photos. You don’t need expensive gear🙏🏼
How about 70-200 2.8 lense?

Any suggestions for visiting formula 1 for a beginner trying panning shots? Budget is £1k willing to buy used lens and body. Don't need close ups, just pics of the cars at the track. Its at Imola so i will likely need some weather resistance.
Second hand you could probs find a Sony a7iii then you want to try and find a 24-70 at minimum. Ideally you would want a 70-200 but the prices of these lenses are too much.
Second hand will be your only bet or to buy from e-infinity (uk) / panamoz in the uk.

If you can share the setting of ios af shutters speed on each picture so that we can learn..
I typically don’t do this because it’s dependent on environment. I do some times speak the settings. What I would suggest as a top tip is start with aperture priority (A). Where you see your aperture let’s say F2.8 and the camera will then change the shutter speed for you.
Shooting M (manual) is actually just trial and error at the start. It will take time to build up the habit of just knowing what settings you need.
One other thing is to try and keep your iso as low as possible, iso is the camera artificially increasing the (exposure / brightness) of the image so the higher the iso the more noise will be introduced to the image.
The more you shoot the more you’ll learn. Hope this comment was some what helpful and I’ll make sure to put the settings on photos that require it in the future🫡
