- On my second day adventuring, I take a dip in Pistyl Gwyn waterfall and make my way along Bwlch Drws-Ardudwy valley between Rhinog Fawr and Rhinog Fach. The rest of the day was gruelling as hell; a pathless, 500m ascent up the westerly flanks of Rhinog Fawr, over boulders, boggy ground & deep heather. My map skills (and patience) were tested, but I was rewarded for my efforts with the most beautiful views over Gloyw Lyn, where I made camp for the night at 400m, in total solitude as the sun went down.

Great videos. Reminded me of my 3 days in the Rhinogs a few years ago walking the Cambrian Way in sections. Using B and B,s trekking poles and lightweight. Took 2 day from Barmouth to Trawsfynedd and both days returned to B and B in the dark. Even harder moonscape North of where you parked!

I don't know how you do it, waking up with frost on the inside of the tent and then going for a swim in the freezing cold water and trekking through that rough terrain.you are mentally and physically a very strong young woman and the youngsters of today could learn a lot from you .

I remember my father telling me when he was a young he was warned of the dangers of holes beneath the grass and vegation. There were areas that were deep holes to caves which had been grown over by vegetation and impossible to see when walking, pretty scarey. His father was a farmer and had lost sheep down them. He would always take his dog with him when he walked across unfamiliar areas as the dog would stop and bark when he was close to it.

Love your YT channel and am going backwards now to older videos. Nice first 3 night trip, frozen tent but still jumping in the 4⁰C water a little later. You're really tough. Although this video here is very nice it's amazing how much you video making has improved since then, video, music, coloring, drone flights, talk. I am also rather impressed with your skills, it's not easy to navigate by map and compass when there's no visible path. I am still trying to muster the courage to go for my first solo wild camp....
Aw thank you so much Anett! It was tricky navigation, I worried more than I needed too because I assumed I must have been going wrong, but I wasn't. I can imagine it would be a hellish place to navigate in bad visibility, so I was really fortunate with the clear skies. How exciting, I hope you muster that courage soon :D stay local and familiar, my first was nearly 4 years ago now but I only travelled half a mile or so from my car. I'm quite a lone wolf however so all of mine have been solo so far! Thanks for watching and have a great weekend :)

Just a little heads up about Snowdonia, many of the tracks on the map date to before cars, they were drovers and mail tracks, as you say you met very few people so the tracks don't get worn, this can be a boost to your navigation skills, anyone can follow a path.
As you are on your own consider registering your phone with 999,or 112, Google for details, or getting a PLB, personal location beacon, this is the best as it connects to satalites and can be received anywhere in the world.

The more I watch this channel the more badass you become. You are just the hardiest backpacker out there. You find joy in the toughest of circumstances. Not sure if anyone else has commented this but the green lines on OS maps aren’t actually paths. They’re rights of way, which means you can walk there. Some have become paths over time, but in more remote areas usually not. Paths on the ground are marked as intermittent black lines and are much fainter. Hope that’s helpful! 🏔
Losing the matches sounds like a nightmare! I always carry one of those small ferrocerium rods with steel striker, stored in the same tiny bag with the stove itself. Basically impossible to break, so it's really reliable.
I'm just so impressed with her map reading.
Beautiful scenery 😊. hiking sticks are a must for this type of terrain both for keeping your balance over lose rocks and also for prodding and poking suspicious looking areas to avoid putting your foot in a hidden hole filled with foul smelling mud/water. Take care

4 huge life lessons - (1) PACE / backup planning for essential equipment such as shelter, warmth, water, energy, fire / combustion, light, navigation (PACE = Primary, Alternative, Contingency, Emergency). (2) ALWAYS carry a small backup survival kit on your person. (3) ALWAYS carry 3 ways of making fire, one of which should be a fire steel (i always carry 2 CLIPPER lighters & 2 fire steels (SCOUT & ARMY). A clipper lighter is best cos you can remove the flint wheel & use it to light gas stoves & cotton wool / vaseline. (4) ALWAYS take walking poles (they have several uses beyond the obvious).
You are awesome and an inspiration to everyone who wants to get into the outdoors, a great ambassador to the adventure and outdoors please keep making films! Really enjoyed this!

Great video. Just take care on Welsh Mountains, as a welshman, we see sad fatalities due to poor clothing and equipment. Tip, take the lense out of your torch 🔦 It can be used to light a fire, also keep wire wool in your pack, weighs nothing, use with torch battery and you have sources for heat. Remember wet and cold and no heat can be fatal. It's all about learning and enjoyment x
Thanks for the reminder. I don't think I would have remembered that my glasses could start a fire.
Also good advice is to simply stop, sit down and question your decisions and plans when hiking solo. I hike at altitude which without you knowing jacks up your decision making. I've moved when the clear best plan was to sit tight. Summit fever as well as get back to the car fever is real and should be on your mind while hiking.
A perfect illustration - we in the Us lost an entire family to heat exhaustion in the Sierra Nevadas. A whole family including a baby and dog died of heat within feet of a big river and big shade trees. 1.6 miles from a hotel and their car. Heat cold and altitude are to be understood before backpacking especially off trail.
Sacrifice your torch though 🤔

Really enjoyed your adventure Claire , such a beautiful and breathtaking area . The one thing though is you should make sure when ever you go on such adventures ( even just a day hike ) , make sure you always have fire starting redundancies ( 2 X lighters , matches and Ferro rod ) Because being able to create fire means life and survival when it all goes wrong , especially when mother nature isn,t happy . If you have not checked out Dave Canterbury,s 10 C,s of survival video , it would be a wise choice to make for everyone who goes adventuring should have those items always in there packs if it all goes wrong . it's great to see your skills & confidence grow with each adventure, and being able to calmly see problems as challenges & not set backs.
I did a wild camp along the cliffs in Berwick upon tweed last week, & stupidly left my tent, poles And pegs at home (left them in my little rucksack), but didn't panic & instead had a great time building a little shelter using my tent footprint, washed up branches and fishing rope!

Nice one, it's a great area tho always been in rain or cloud when I've been there so this is actually the first time I've seen where I've been ha ha.
I would recommend walking poles, a fire steel and a tick removal thingie. I've picked them up camping in November despite wearing trousers and gaiters.

5:30 - Alright....full swim in 4.6C water on a right chilly morning earns fairly high-quality trail credibility and serious gumption. I also get the value of a cold soak to wake-up and meet the day, never mind the amazing personal hygiene qualities of a plain water wash. Win win.
On other note, the geography geek in me loves placing your map descriptions onto google maps to compare your beautiful videos of your landscapes with the topo map presentation on google. I must say it's a surprise for me to see so much open land (Heather and boggy though it is) with such splendid views. I see the attraction, it's lovely terrain!
