      I love your channel and subscribed. that girl don't speak Slinglish too much. I notice she always look into her phone. Slinglish mean mixed languages. not everyone speak the same Slinglish because of so many different type of dialects out there. you can creative dialects mixed in with Hakka, Hanna, Hockan, Malay, Dayak, English, Cantonese and more.... people like to speak Slinglish because #1 - cool and #2 - only your group of friends and family speak and understand the languages and sure we know what you are talking about. Let me teach you how to speak Slinglish when you see a pretty girl. " Itu ( Malay mean that ) Jarpo ( Hockan mean girl ) Haulang ( Hakka mean pretty ) La ( English mean Yeah!!! ) Itu Jarpo Haulang La .

    • @maxkho00
      @maxkho00 4 роки тому +5

      Because it's not a dialect. It's a creole language, like Naija Pijin. If you listen to some Pijin spoken, you'll understand at best 5% of the speech, if that.

    Hilarious! I always love watching a non-local trying to learn Singlish and pronouncing the words.
    Kia-su literally translates as someone "afraid to lose"...e.g.
    "Wah, you so kia-su, chope so many table for what?" - You're expecting a dinner party and are afraid you might not have enough seating for all, so you reserved a whole bunch of tables, much more than you need. So you are 'kia-su'. So not necessarily, 'competitive' in meaning, all the time.
    Looking for directions, you can use the words “down where?” Sounds weird?
    “Aiyo, bah-toh tia, want to berak, toilet down where ah?” - ow I have a stomach ache, I need to take a dump, where’s the restroom?

    Actually, Singlish is created so foreigner don't understand a heck of what Singaporean is talking about! Just Kidding. This is the results of multi-culture up-bringing. Having indians(from India origin, not that American natives), malays, chinese & eurasian as your neighbours, you learn some of their mother tongue playing with your neighbours. Just like I use Spanglish in spain for certain years, laughing by the local spanish friends. Saying I speak like a Britons living in spain.

    I think Singlish is different to different races. Like if you're Chinese of course you'll use more Chinese & Hokkien dialect in ur Singlish but if you're Malay you'll use more Malay and same goes for Indian.
    But i think apart from the mixing native languages to English, Singlish is prominent for it's bad sentence structure and poor grammar.
    Tbh it's just Singaporeans trying to direct translate their native language to English. Hence the weird grammar.
