- Surviving SINGLISH in Singapore - Vlog 013
Featuring: Dia Alison Tan
Video Link : • Surviving SINGLISH in ...
Hi UA-cam family, I would like to share my SINGLISH experience here in Singapore. As defined by Wikipedia, Singlish is the English-based creole or patois spoken colloquially in Singapore. Although English is the lexifier language, Singlish has its unique slang and syntax, which are more pronounced in informal speech. It is usually a mixture of English, Mandarin, Tamil, Malay, and other local dialects like Hokkien, Cantonese or Teochew.

Such a cheerful girl, Dia 💙
Dia seems very sweet! :) "Bottle can, CAN can not" haha! I get it now :) So fun watching you guys go through these phrases. I can see how it would be easy to misunderstand someone hehe :)
Wishing On Stars Music Yes, she's a sweet girl. Yeah, at first, it took me a while to adapt to some of the words and phrases here but through time, every seems easy to understand. 😀

Thanks Dia. Take care, too and God Bless.
I moved to Singapore recently and I was frustrated at first for not understanding what people here are talking. I was caught in several awkward moments trying to get myself understood. In the end, I just "never mind". The way they stared at me when I couldn't catch up to what they're speaking felt like I was an idiot who doesn't understand English. Duh!
Charming.
Quanxiang Loo Thank you :-D

You guys chinoy? Or mixed filipino and chinese?
Hi Darren, I'm pure Filipino. My niece is half Chinese and Filipino. 👍😁 Thanks for stopping by. 👍
Are you Chinese or Filipino ?
Filipino 🇵🇭
Do you know what is rhe most frequent word in Singlish?
Not " lah"... it's "like". When I hear two Singaporean speak, almost every sentence got "like", Sometimes one sentence can be more than one "like"😂
You are also correct. "like" is also often used, not just in SG but in some parts of USA. 😁
Can you Speak Malay?
I only know a few words. 😁😁
Are you Filipinos? Hi
