- A lot of people like this episode, and although I can see why, I'd like to argue some counterpoints.

What about Squidward's line - "This is idiotic."
Mr. Krabs - "Dance or you're fired."
Squidward - "You got it, Mr. Krabs!" [dances and shakes his butt]
Josh Pernis,
I also like the fact that Plankton dosent have any security gards to kick out Mr. Krabs, so instead Plankton grows big and yells GET OUT!!!
I find that line hysterical
I think this episode would have worked better if Mr. Krabs legitimately starts to believe that Plankton turned over a new leaf, only to have that fake-out ending with Plankton revealing that it was a scheme. Then, Mr. Krabs would be there standing behind Plankton looking surprised and ashamed. This was a missed opportunity for Mr. Krabs to feel utterly betrayed. That would have given this episode an actual point to exist- to show that sometimes when you give people a second chance, they will use it against you and fuck you over, showing how it hurts more the second time because you were the one who let your guard down and became more vulnerable.
With this, if Plankton was faking the whole thing and Mr. Krabs was faking the whole thing, then what was the point here?
I get what the writers were going for with the tone, but they got it backwards. This plot only works when the opposite party is actually being fooled by the antagonist.
The thing about this episode that always made it stand out to me is the fact that the inside of Plankton's mouth is purple in this episode when it is usually red.
I love the fact that, although most of you disagree with me, after 1,000 views and 76 likes, no one has disliked the video. You all offer wonderful and respectful counterpoints as to why you like this episode. My fans are the greatest!
You're welcome
of course you say that someone had to dislike it..
***** You are a pure genius Mr. Pie Guy. We all respect you with great honor! ;)
PieGuy, I love your videos! Do you think I could help a little with art? I’d be doing it just for the help, for free. If not, it’s okay.
The ratings that people disagree on what makes them intresting
I clicked this thinking it was an Animal Crossing New Leaf Critique LOL.
Season 5 seems to be a very Krabs and Plankton centric season. Many episodes involve both of them, and some go further in depth to their relationship like Friend or Foe and Spy Buddies.
Others just revolve around their general rivalry like Bucket Sweet Bucket, 20,000 Patties Under the Sea, Goo Goo Gas, Krabs a la Mode, Banned in Bikini Bottom, and even as far back as Pest of the West. As a result of this, I'm going to assume Season 5 features mostly scenes of the Krusty Krab and, thus, not come off as good episodes.
Even Mr. Enter made up his own rule of thumb: "If an episode Season 5-onwards begins at the Krusty Krab, it's not going to be good." For several of these episodes, that could be very true.
For a second there, I thought you were gonna do a rant on Animal Crossing New Leaf, until I saw "Spongey Bits"
What I disliked about this episode is that Mr. Krabs is so unconvinced. It would have been interesting if Mr. Krabs was relieved that Plankton is done with the formula, but finds out somewhere in the middle of the episode that Plankton might not be sinsire..
I would give this a low good, because I agree with most of your points, but I also like seeing Krabs and Plankton being friends, and yes I know that in the end it turns out they weren't, but I still like seeing them being nice to each other.
"New Leaf" is actually my favourite episode of season 4. I absolutely love Mr. Krabs and Plankton's little montage right before the end. Yes, it's all ruined by the twist ending, but that doesn't detract from the fact that the montage was very sweet to watch (for me, at least). Speaking of the twist ending, I really liked of how unexpected it was. It's what I like most about the episode; it pulls you in thinking that Plankton is going to make up with Krabs and be really good friends with him, only to find out that it was all one of Plankton's evil schemes. It might be a slap in the face to some such as yourself, but I found it to be very smart and well-handled that an episode can trick you like that. As for you saying that the whole episode was pointless, I don't agree. I find it to be a "Plankton steals the secret formula" plot that's been done in a very unique and interesting way. I thought that Plankton trying to trick Mr. Krabs into thinking that he's turned over a new leaf was a really smart idea that hasn't been done before, as I previously stated.
The only problems that I have with the episode was one or two jokes that fell flat, such as when Mr. Krabs set up a rave with SpongeBob being the DJ. It was a random scene that came out of nowhere and that could've been cut out. A big-lipped alligator moment, if you will. But, in my opinion, an episode of SpongeBob doesn't need to be funny in order for it to be good. Yes, it's a comedy show, but I feel like it's episodes like these that can be good without having much comedy. That's also why I really like "Have You Seen This Snail?"; it's an episode that pulls you in thinking that something's gonna happen that's gonna change the series, but by the end you know that it's not, while feeling like the experience was worth going through. Yes, it has a similar plot to "Dumped", but I feel like "Have You Seen This Snail?" was trying to fix it, and it did it very well. I'm saying this because I really didn't like "Dumped". It's one of the few episodes of classic SpongeBob that I legitimately hated. I can see how you don't like "New Leaf" because of the episode being "pointless" in one sense or another, but I really liked the episode nonetheless. I mean, you can say whatever you want about the episode, I'm not trying to change your mind, just like you're not trying to change my mind. I just decided to express my opinion just like you did, simple as that. :)
I hated the scene where Krabs destroys the store. it was really harsh and uncalled for.
Also. I wish they would stop doing the whole "plankton tries to be good just to be bad by the end"
I hate the scene too. Plankton should have called the police to arrest Mr. Krabs.
I hate people who just ignore the whole scene after that, kamakani b playing, Mr krabs krying everything. Fk you lol
Mr. Krabs apologized
Fym "stop"? They have only done it 3 times including the 2nd movie.
@@ProbablySoon-pv6ee exactly!! That phone call is one of the top 10 most emotional moments in spongebob..
It's funny because friend or foe and best frenemies are 2 of my favorite episodes, and it's even further shocking when you realize those episodes came not only after the movie, but after season 4.
best frenemies was in season 4 though
As a kid, I never really cared for this episode. Now, after seeing episodes like Plankton's Regular and One Coarse Meal, I appreciate it a hell of a lot more!
characterization is just do enjoyable for me to watch. I really don't know why, probably because I like writing, but when an episode focuses on character development, that's just pretty cool to see, especially in cartoons because it's rare to see a cartoon take itself seriously enough to do something like this; to change the status quo.
I genuinely love this episode. Here’s why I hold it really high in regard. The plot is really good. The serious tone is actually done stupidly well here. It’s not like Have You Seen This Snail. The second half is great. Krabs and Plankton hanging out is really nice. That’s how I’d describe the episode. The jokes they have are also funny. Sure it’s not a hilarious episode, but it does have a few moments. The ending is also good. It’s actually a clever twist on the status quo for me. This is an episode I always go back to.
I like this episode for a strange reason. Basically with how much we've seen Plankton suffer - physical and psychological and emotional up to this point and points we'll see in the future, I started to side with him a lot more than I did Krabs. To me, it's like Plankton is in an abusive relationship, and this episode kind of seemed like him getting out of it and finally getting a life of his own...which was good.
But I like it more cause it kind of began to establish that Krabs is actually the bad guy in their relationship. Krabs owns a monopoly - and because of this, his ego is SO big that he thinks that no one can take it down. But, his ego needs constant stroking and validation; Krabs HAS to feel superior to someone - and in this case, it's Plankton. Then, when Plankton gives up and leaves the Fast Food service, Krabs can't stand the fact that he doesn't have Plankton to abuse anymore. It starts with Paranoia thinking that Plankton is just trying to trick him; (and while Plankton is) its not a good thing to think your product is so good that no one else can live without it. And because of this, Krabs goes too far and crosses the line. As far as I can remember, this is before Plankton was actually able to destroy the Krusty Krab; he was so small that he never really caused any collateral damage. So seeing Krabs destroy his inventory is actually shocking.
But then, when Krabs believes that Plankton is serious, he's actually sad about it. And - while this sets up the idea that they were once friends, seen in Friend or Foe - it shows that Krabs actually NEEDS Plankton. Krabs cannot live or function without the idea that his product is SO good and successful, that someone would potentially subject themselves to psychological torment and abject failure, just to get their hands on it.
I anticipated the False-Twist ending, but maybe it could've been done better; Perhaps Plankton anticipated that Krabs was full of shit with giving him that formula, and probably tossed it out. But what if it was the real formula? I think that'd be funny.
I always find the music deep and gloomy while mr krabs and plankton are having fun together
I thought you were reviewing the game. Lol.
A ton of these videos are super nostalgic. Almost as nostalgic as SpongeBob is, keep doing what your doing Pieguy
I personally don't find this episode that bad. Yea, the ending is predictable, but all the plankton episodes, and sometimes even the regular episodes are. I mean, sometimes they can pull off twists, like at the end of hooky, but not usually. I know you say "spongebob is a comedy", and I respect and agree with that, but I think that if they do it right, they can tackle emotion. Some of it in this episode works, some doesn't. Another thing I don't understand (and this a nitpick), is that plankton leaves the chum bucket, saying to the stuffed animal "time to go home".. doesn't he live in the chum bucket? Anyways, nit picking aside, I would call this a meh episode
I agree. This pretty much sums up my opinions of this episode in a nutshell. Comedy doesn't make everything in an episode of Spongebob. A more emotional and empathetic tone could work if comedy is shoehorned in to give the episode backbone. It worked for episodes like Krusty Love and My Pretty Seahorse, but it only worked partially in New Leaf.
Again, this episode is certainly not something you would look forward to in Spongebob, especially the incredibly predictable ending, but in all honesty, you could do so much worse even for a Krabs and Plankton episode (One Coarse Meal anybody?). I'd give it a Meh rating.
The episode is well written and the ending, even if it’s predictable, is a nice twist.
You know something. Not all episodes of SpongeBob need to focus on comedy. For instance, 'Have You Seen this Snail?' was still good in my opinion and that we did feel bad for SpongeBob and Gary. Another show that comes to mind is Courage the Cowardly Dog as it was a horror show but also a comedic and sometimes serious show and it was made for children.
LittleBlue Train67 Although you're right, what it would take for a comedy show episode to not have much comedy but still be a good episode is to have a truly good story. While this definitely was leaning in that direction, what ruined it was this episode pertaining to "The Status Quo is God," meaning that nothing big goes changed.
nascarfanatic2425
Agreed, I mean for example Gumball had an emotional episode called The Shell. Dispit that show being a comedy the episode knows that is a comedy and makes sure to not forget to have a few jokes while still making a good story and even when rewatching that episode again it was still entertaining.
Or if you want an example from SpongeBob itself there is Friend or Foe which like The Shell had enough humor in it while still being a good story.
Have You Seen This Snail is mildly overrated imo but this one has always been one of my favorites.
It would be a good episode when Plankton really did give up on stealing the formula, and works with Mr. Krabs as the Krusty Krab manager.
7:24 for some reason that face on the right scared the shit out of me xD
It only surprised me. The worst one by far is the Squidward face.
the...what? i don't remember a squidward-face :| you know the video by chance? :D
TheNycro It was in his SpongeBob season 4 review and his "Good Neighbors" rant. I didn't want to find it in his season 4 review since the video's nearly an hour long and it would take forever to find it, so I decided to look for it in his "Good Neighbors" rant. It's at 2:03 in that video.
thank you...and wow you are right. that is a scary one xD
TheNycro Ikr. The first time I saw it, I was like "KILL IT WITH FIRE!". ... lol
Praise our lord and savior, Status Quo
I'm O.K with this episode not one of my favorites but I wouldn't call it Scumbob still I respect you're opinion and it's nice to see someone that actually explains why they don't like an episode rather then just saying all modern spongebob is bad why because it's modern and that means it sucks.
I feel that maybe this episode would have been saved for one close to a series finale, and make Plankton actually be a souvenir seller. Maybe it would've been better off.
I went back and tried watching this episode pretending that the twist doesn't exist. I walked out during the fade to black and imagined as I watched that it ended there. In this light, it's EXTREMELY corny, but a good story and an example of how character development could actually happen in a show like this. I kind of regret that they didn't actually go through with it before Plankton's schemes hit their low point, but what can ya do? It's still fun to imagine what might have been though.
I honestly thought this was a good episode probably in my top 10 episodes of season 4 onearss
I can't be the only one who thought this was an Animal Crossing video at first, right?
Agreed. Movies like Fight Club and Sixth Sense has a a infamous twist everyone knows but theyhave rewatch value because you can catch all the hints they give and Sixth Sense and Fight Club has a lot of hints
I like this episode because its a decent change of pace.
The part where PIankton said ''l give up, l'm through competing with you'' and ''A miserabIe faiIure. Every singIe one'' and Krabs saying ''What about aII those attempts at trying to steaI my krabby patty recipe'' confused me
because l thought Spongebob didn't have continuity
I think it would have been better as the last episode of SpongeBob. Imagine if plankton turned away the formula, with the last shot with the sun setting.
This is my favourite episode personally.
I Love That Episode!!!
yeah while i enjoyed the renewed friendship that was there, i thought the ending was predictable
Mr Krabs pretty much infuriated me in this episode. Especially when he was trashing the chum bucket when plankton is trying to sell items.
Honestly, I would have loved this episode if Plankton had stopped being in the restaurant business. I feel like there was more to work with if they had permanently changed the dynamic between Plankton and Krabs and made them rivals but in terms of profits or something rather than stealing the formula.
Tbh. I really liked this episode. It wasn’t that funny of an episode, but the story is really well done. It has nice build up to it with Plankton retiring from getting the formula. And it seemed really genuine. Especially their friendship. But I didn’t like the ending too much. But at the same I did. Overall great episode
I think it's a meh episode
I thought it was right on that Meh/Good line....I thought it was really heartwarming. It had one of the best season 4 moments when SpongeBob starts DJing and Krabs and Squid start dancing to house music. As a fan of electronic dance and DJing, I really liked that scene. Oh yeah, and the joke near the end where Plankton says "What a convoluted plan! I should've been a politician" was a bit funny. However, the Status Quo is God at the end was pretty insulting, because it ruined what could've been a really heartwarming moment between Mr. Krabs and Plankton. That's why I think it's a Meh. This is a side note, but it's the second episode this season where Squidward twerks....I just thought I'd point that out...
Squidward was twerking before it was cool
This story could have worked pretty well as a last episode.
Friend or foe! He's working on s5!
Go home nickelodeon you're drunk!!!!!!!!!!
***** GOD DAMMIT!!!!!
When I first watched this episode, I actually felt horrible for Plankton when Krabs trashed his place like that. I felt the apology phone call that Krabs gave was very...touching, almost. But I agree, the ending totally sucked.
Hey PIEGUYRULZ, do you remember the part in when Krabs deliberately drops the secret formula, then he throws it back to him, so I don't understand why he was happy at the end when he FINALLY thinks he got the formula.
Haha I really liked spy buddies! I love to re watch it cuz the ending :3
I agree with your highlight because the backround music is Clownfish Capers and I like that music
I feel like you should give your review on the episode the way you are doing already but also explain if it would work in another tv show
I'm guessing your Season 5 reviewed is coming very soon.
I like this episode too. I do admit I didn't like the predictable copout at the end, but didn't hate it.
4:09 Season 5 preview?
And 2:45.
Tyrell Bain Season 5 has the sandy background, as expected.
Finny Sohr What do you mean?
The acorns represent Sandy
Finny Sohr And so does the Texas flag at the top.
It could have simply said exactly like on UG and SU crossover "It's not tangent bro"
In other words, they did at least try to do something good with this episode.
I think this episode would have actually worked pretty well, if it wasn't for the ending. That's what ruins it for me. Status quo Is God.
oh and I CAN'T WAIT FOR SEASON 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I liked the episode until the fake-out ending. And yes, I didn't expect it the first time I saw it years ago. I also felt extremely bad and hated Mr. Krabs for trashing the gift shop and the cute little nik-naks. Even though he apologized, It still didn't make up the tears of Plankton and the lost of money on his merchandise. I think the twist wouldn't have happened if Mr. Krabs didn't trash his gift shop. But unfortunately, that's my theory. Basically, I thought that the episode would've been better if Plankton and Mr. Krabs would slowly start to change or be more dynamic, like in "Frenemies" where they worked together, or how they were friends in, "The Plug" (you know, that Spongebob Legends short about the "Great Ocean Plug"?). And I agree with you that the episode maybe could've been better if it was a 30-minute-special. They could've added much more details and story. I just wished that you and the fans were able to put suggestions and maybe make a SpongeBob episode, but yeah. :(
I had to shorten this because I exceeded the word limit. XD
***** True
SciencePup TheAmericanJoe i know it is so 😢 sad
Seeing this episode as a gullible 10-year old, I was honestly shocked that Plankton didn't change. It's not really that bad, there's a few good jokes, so I call it meh.
Makes me feel little bit sad that this scumbob episode aired on my birthday, even though I don't think it's that it's terrible it's O. K. for me..
My gripes in this episode were that Mr. Krabs destroying plankton's furniture's was a little too far for me. and Plankton being really sad was a little too much and there were barely any jokes...
I would have loved to have this episode continue on throughout a few episodes like plankton genuinely turns a new leaf but he slowly starts to go insane or something and he watches krabs get more successful. Or maybe they become business partners and plankton has a Krusty Krab 2 and he gets greedy and tries to overtake krabs. That would have been fun but oh well. Personally I think it’s a meh episode. So much wasted potential
how about all the special episodes from season 1-3
at the end they still followed the status quo.
How about the review of Season 5? I saw you reviewing one on the episodes from Season 5. 4:14
I can see where you're coming from, but there's definitely worse. I just take this episode with a grain of salt and enjoy it.
Wasn't Robo-Krabs served with a side of tartar sauce and fries and a guy on the surface says, "Man, there's a robot in my food! Cheap Burger-Beard Fish'n'Chips!"
(Burger-Beard gets kicked out. He schemes for many years and it's because of Imitation Krabs that The SpongeBob Movie 2 EVER HAPPENED.)
I see you have some season 5 reviewed title card previews in this video
How Would You React if Plankton Really Got the formula
He has, in the movie.
Elsa of Arendelle I meant in this episode
When I watched this episode, I really wanted to see plankton change, because by then I'd seen friend or foe. I still kinda knew that they were going to pull that lame twist that ANYONE could see coming, but a part of me really hoped they wouldn't do it. In my head I just imagined them becoming partners again and plankton keeping Krabs' rampant cheapness in check a little more, which would make krabs more likable, and then perhaps introduce a new character to fill plankton's old role. Maybe they could have even had Karen go rogue, leave plankton, and fill the role herself. Mostly because I never liked Karen and wanted to see her knocked down a peg instead of always being a smug bitch.
Yeah! I knew I wasn't the only one who wants Mr. Krabs and Plankton to make up
But maybe they should do it in a more epic way
And by epic I don't mean hype the living barnacles out of it, that would most likely ruin it
And they need to make it clear that BOTH of them were in the wrong and need to apologize.
That would be perfect, I think they would truly make a great team together, like they did long ago. Maybe even have a deeply emotional scene where both their plans to hurt each other fall apart, and they realize that they need each other, apologize, and recapture the glory days of their relationship, and have to team up against Plankton's evil ex, who let's face it, would be much more of a threat than Plankton ever was.
Lunara Hunter ...Why are UA-camrs better writers than professonals?!
Actually, I am a writer, amateur at least. Thanks!
We're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. I thought this ep was surprisingly touching for something that aired after the movie. It's not perfect by any stretch, but you could tell the writers were actually trying in this one.
There are only 4 total Spongebob episodes that I don't like this is not one of them but all that Glitters is one are you going to be doing a review on that I want to see someone tear up that episode
I saw the first three words and I thought you meant the game
0:29 And Another reminder of Will there be one on Sweet and Sour Squid
Well you will have to review season 10 plankton retires
They should of made it so plankton sees the krusty Krab has no competition and is gaining customers, and he can't handle it anymore so he stops and goes back to the food industry to stop Mr krabs from gaining those customers. But it turns out Mr krabs has always had a slowly increasing customer count and plankton didn't have to go back.
I agree with you.
Damnit "The status quo is God" BUCK!!!
7:31 All of these are about the FUN song
I liked it
New leaf is like fun
l agree with you on this episode.
Please do a video on Born To Be Wild.
You sayd the ending was predictable. But for me, it was a really big plot twist.
Yeah, there's a W. How am i suppose to know on the first viewing that it's an M?
So please do a Spongey Bit, and explain why you think it's predictable
***** I know, right?
Ok, maby you can somehow guess that "Oh, the people aren't going to be evil afther all". But the M/W will still surprise you
Season 5 review!!
Hey PieGuy can you do whale of a birthday next?
He says he's doing All That Glitters next. Sorry bub you're gonna have to wait until he decides to rant on that episode.
Finny Sohr
ok I can wait I cant wait until the next one though
1:13 i forgot digs 448pm 52724
they did this again in the episode plankton retires
7:23 XD
The new leaf rehash of f.u.n
I like New Leaf
I'd give this one a Meh at the most, but not a ScumBob.
Also, Sneak Peeks of Season 5. Nice touch :)
hhaaahahaha green leaf bits
7:23 DA HAIL?
This is a meh episode.
So I'm reviewing in my highlight of Season 4.
This is actually my least favorite of the show, and the fake ending is the worst part.
2:46 and 4:80 uh oh preview!
The first time I watched it, I thought it was funny.
The next time I saw it, I was more knowledgeable on character development, and I was picking up on the rehashing of plots in this series. It wasn't as funny to me then, and the next few viewings were less and less enjoyable until I finally disliked it. I don't outright hate it, because everything up to the fake out was golden, but those last few minutes just dismantle the plot.
Curse you "status quo is law" rule, CURSE YOU!
Inwarda
Personally, I didn't dislike New Leaf, but I didn't necessarily like it, either. I would've given it a Neutral rating. (Or in your case, Meh.)
I really didn't like your review at first, since it basically boiled down to 'Spongebob can't ever have serious stories or emotions', or at least that's what it sounded like you were saying. But I really love your elaboration, I agree 100% that these writers can and have written serious stories with jokes. (They need to do it more!) New Leaf was pointless and it punches Plankton fans like myself in the face.
I think it's a meh episode because the story was ok but the humer was not funny so we all have are options
I liked New Leaf
