If you think about it, all the trials and tribulations turned the Captain (us) into a Dark Souls character. I mean for THIRTY YEARS, all these factions were brewing in the background waiting to take over, but nobody made a move. And why? Because *we* were still standing. We, among the handful of thousands of people to survive the apocalypse while _billions_ died around us and the ecosystem suffered almost total extinction. We took a group of 80 and turned it into a thriving city-state through sheer grit and child labor, through internal strife, extreme and unpredictable temperature changes, sickness, famine, and isolation. When the apocalypse was on the horizon, we sent scout teams to every corner of the land to rescue as many as we could and rode it out. What should have been the final deathblow to humanity became nothing more than the opening chapter of the reign of New London, and it would not have been possible without a Captain determined/crazy enough to push through such incredible hardship and convince/coerce people to keep fighting on despite the odds. Everyone in the city for better or worse owed us their life, so we remained in power uncontested, a living legend who guided the survivors of humanity through the great storm. I like to believe the person who whispers to the Captain is the personification of Death or Charon as right as he mentions the world being dead and empty, it appears. It then proceeds to give him a glimpse of the future of New London at 1:10 by touching his chair. Everything past this point except the Captain remains in a stark white/dark light with oil leaking through the streets like the River Styx as it grudgingly pushes him through it, showing that the future of the city while prosperous with magnificent giant airships and better living standards is still uncertain as the Captain states it’ll die just like he does at 1:48
just finished the story mode on officer, damn I feels like I just replayed the whole Frostpunk 1 through steward perspective 30 years later, uncover what buried there and questioning everything I did on Frostpunk 1 and they really reveal the story of our scouts adventuring round the permafrost back then. this game need series adaptation, the writing is too goat.
What if this woman whispering in the dying captain's hear.... Is the child the father with balls of steel went to rescue during the storm? Alone like a badass to rescue his daughter. I mean, 30 years, she's probably still alive and kicking.
I personally think, from what we can see here, that the steward is taking the captain out to the snow and dumping him somewhere so that he will freeze to death, or possibly murdering him and dumping him in the snow. We see the scene where the captain is sitting near the window. The steward whispers something in his ear and begins to take him away. Strolling him through the city, taking him somewhere. it cuts to the scene of him sitting near his window again (before the steward takes him away) which then cuts to him frozen in the snow. I'm pretty certain the steward murders him to take more control of the city. I don't think the story mode will unfold in quite the same way as frostpunk 1s scenarios. And I'm really excited to see how 11 bit studios has handled it!
It's a pity that the last Captain of New London died, he went through such a hard way, he had a hard time, but thanks to him he was able to save the city, the eternal memory of Joss Turner. 😔
Ebengrad stands strong, and children work as coalminers in 24-hour shifts, after filling soup with sawdust. I hope to try something as horrific as that, in upcoming simulator of “how long it will take you, before you make panopticon”.
I liked the trailer and how Turner talks about this difficult journey and what he had to go through to tell it. I hope that the game will tell us what happened next and what fate awaits them.❤
You did well, sir. The City survived. But with the city, ambitions, greed, evil desires and lust for power remained. Now that Great Storm took those who are weak, only the strong, or cunning, will remain, willing to take it back in their hands. They'll make older world return to us, with worst of the worst from it, hiding it with smiles of "progress". But your deeds, good or bad, will always be considered the worst, even if it led to survival of everyone. Rest in snow, in ground, like everyone else you've killed for the greater good. In the end, Storm takes us all indifferently.
I bought the deluxe edition without thinking twice. And now, having seen a lot of materials about the game, screenshots and trailers, I can definitely say that we are in for a great sequel! THE CITY WILL STAND!
After the game i understand why "THE CITY MUST NOT FALL". Eleven Bits changed the tone and theme of Frostpunk 2 from surviving at all cost to managing a large group of people to expand and make life better. But people don't agree on how to achieve that better life. Everybody wants it, but the views about it are vastly different. That's why despite being really different from FP 1 I will love and support this game. IF CITY FALLS IT'S YOUR FAULT, STEWARD!
This got me chills! :) I was that man... i held the city together... and it survived... And now... the city evolve... the city demands more... the ppl demands more... but what it takes... More Coal... More Oil... More blood... The city must expand... the humanity must survive...
I'm going to now believe that the Steward is this face on the cover of the game! Looks like the same jacket and character that pushed the Captain away and took over to me!
If the londoners somehow survived I highly doubt they’d return to mock the dead captain. They’ll really just feel very stupid for leaving and honor the captain for actually trying to lead humanity back on track
You know, I always theorized the Captain died sometime during the storm. Maybe on the final segment, when the temperature falls around -150°C. It would explain the state of things on New London during the "On the Edge" DLC. It's very weird to see he survived that long. I mean: the same guy who managed to stock humongous amounts of food and coal, build up about 6-7 automatons (depending of the gameplay) and helped to save more than 600 lives from the Great Storm, was the same guy who allowed New London to get in such a bad shape where it was basically depending of a small outpost (which didn't even have a generator) to not fall apart?
Maybe he resigned himself from ruling the city after the storm, dude gotta build up some huge stress after making so many hard decisions and countless sleepless night figuring what to do next day.
Maybe after the storm ended the captain stepped down from power and tried an electoral system? But after new london almost collapsed he was probably forced back into power
I guess the Captain was chilling in retirement. Now I'm curious as to what happened for the Steward's rise to power and how the Captain was reduced to such a state he could be wheeled into the frost without resistance from himself or protest from the people...
Subtitles. You’re welcome. People: Captain! Captain! Can you hear us?! Captain!! Do you hear us?! Captain: A generation ago, we fled the crumbling British empire as the world froze around us. I held New London together. United, we survived thirty years of whiteouts. But the world around us…is dead…empty… Stranger: Ripe for taking. The city grows…festers. Merely surviving is not enough. We have to expand. After all, it’s us who survived the end of the world. Captain: Yes…now what?
This is so cool to get a reveal of The Captain I assumed they were our self insert rather than an actual character. So I’m curious is the story of On The Edge/Outpost 11 cannon and if so was the captain disgraced after those events? He made sure New London survived the great storm only for it to almost fall to resource crisis.

THE CITY MUST S̶̶̶̶̶U̶̶̶̶̶R̶̶̶̶̶V̶̶̶̶̶I̶̶̶̶̶V̶̶̶̶̶E̶ NOT FALL!
Taking how old the captain is it can be assumed he was between 50 and 60 during Frostpunk 1 taking it's been 30 years
Funnily enough, the new steward and the old captain are still us, so only a technical change in leadership.
The time of Captain has passed, the time of Steward has come.
How very sinister, not what I expected
What if this woman whispering in the dying captain's hear....
Is the child the father with balls of steel went to rescue during the storm? Alone like a badass to rescue his daughter.
I mean, 30 years, she's probably still alive and kicking.
Half of my favourite games are from Poland man what a blessed country
Can't wait for another masterpiece
Can always trust the Polish to make a 10/10 depressing banger
If these games didn't make you feel cold enough, then that'll certainly do it.
It's a pity that the last Captain of New London died, he went through such a hard way, he had a hard time, but thanks to him he was able to save the city, the eternal memory of Joss Turner. 😔
Thanks Stupendium :D
Ebengrad stands strong, and children work as coalminers in 24-hour shifts, after filling soup with sawdust. I hope to try something as horrific as that, in upcoming simulator of “how long it will take you, before you make panopticon”.
I liked the trailer and how Turner talks about this difficult journey and what he had to go through to tell it.
I hope that the game will tell us what happened next and what fate awaits them.❤
The city must be built, the city must grow. There will be no mercy.
After this game, you should make a series, period
IF CITY FALLS IT'S YOUR FAULT, STEWARD!
what a delightful cinematic, i can honestly put this on loop as background noise LOL the whispers,,,the voice acting and music, *chef kiss*
Wow, this climax, those shots, the voice acting... Cinematic perfection! Just wow!
RIP the captain he did his best.
THE CITY MUST NOT FALL
It would be funny if the children of the Londoners come back after all those years and mock the Captain.
Unless all of the Londoners have long since perished.
There's no way the londonderry survived the storm
If the londoners somehow survived I highly doubt they’d return to mock the dead captain. They’ll really just feel very stupid for leaving and honor the captain for actually trying to lead humanity back on track
Good luck captains... The city WILL thrive!
After seeing this, I want so much for a horror game set in Frostpunk.
No i to jest zajawka, którą aż chce się obejrzeć. Z przyjemnością oglądałoby się serial animowany w tym uniwersum
Maybe he got gravely ill and paralysed during the storm?
Maybe he resigned himself from ruling the city after the storm, dude gotta build up some huge stress after making so many hard decisions and countless sleepless night figuring what to do next day.
I like to think that the captain tried to establish a council. But it backfired.
Well, as the previous captain, besides handing over the city, I have one more thing to say to you, Steward:
LET
THEM
EAT
SOUP
Bring in the SawDust Burgers!
I'm really looking forward to Frostpunk 2. I've got nearly 800 hours in the first game. Hope this is worth the hype.
"Death by the very thing i protected you from for thirty years ? Have i ruled cruelly ? Or not cruelly enough ?"
We need HBO series of Frostpunk :) Can't wait for books!
Subtitles. You’re welcome.
People: Captain! Captain! Can you hear us?! Captain!! Do you hear us?!
Captain: A generation ago, we fled the crumbling British empire as the world froze around us. I held New London together. United, we survived thirty years of whiteouts. But the world around us…is dead…empty…
Stranger: Ripe for taking. The city grows…festers. Merely surviving is not enough. We have to expand. After all, it’s us who survived the end of the world.
Captain: Yes…now what?
I hope we can unlock a monument for the captain
Shivers down my spine. these cinematics are something else I can't wait to play!!
Played the first game by chance a few years ago, I’ve already preordered the second!
I’m excited!
This is so cool to get a reveal of The Captain I assumed they were our self insert rather than an actual character. So I’m curious is the story of On The Edge/Outpost 11 cannon and if so was the captain disgraced after those events? He made sure New London survived the great storm only for it to almost fall to resource crisis.
a book about the lore and how the world ended up here would be so freaking cool!!!!
Not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed at the time.
The future is now!
The captain took us as far as he could. It's time for a new age! The city must not fall!
Can't wait!
Fellow sons and daughters of the now dead captain.
The Captain has taught us all that we need to take the flaming torch.
Offspring Stewards, let us now take the stage and make our own future’s.
For the people cry out for us to lead them. For the city. must. not. fall.
cant wait more 7 days
WAW WAW WAW... such an AMAZING game intro!!! 👍👍👍👌👌👌❣️❣️❣️
The city is 90% automaton and 10% people, long live the machines! (I'm a big automaton fan :D )
We went from surviving the winter to now conquering it; *May The New Empire Rise Again!*
The captain here might be the most beautiful 3d model of a human being I've ever seen. There's something about wrinkles I find beautiful. They show that you lived.
Storm’s coming, storm came, storm will come again!
Steward! Here your people!
Already bought Deluxe and can't wait to play it!
it’s the song from the stupendium woah
This is gonna be awesome
Im ready
o7 to the captain for making good/bad decisions (player based)
