you can change the screen size to match the resolution by pressing Light button + down a couple times, so the pixels aren't stretched, but then the picture will be smaller
Thank you for the review :) i was really looking to buy this console for a long time but wasn't that convinced till i watched your video. Once again thank you.
Waiting for mine right now. I ordered two of these for me and my gf! The thing that puts me off about the GPA SP AGS-101, while being a collectible for sure, is the ergonomics. Even with small hands its just awful to play anything longer than 10 minutes without pain, so I hope my K101 arrives soon. Happy new year everyone!
If I didn't have a GBA modded with the 101 screen, I would buy this. I still may at some point. Also, I really like the clear casing, reminds me of the Glacier GBA (translucent GB/GBC/GBA were the best).
You can press the star button on the top of the device and down on the DPAD simultaneously to change the aspect ratio. There is an original aspect size, an upscaled size with proper aspect, and a stretch to full-screen aspect.
I loved playing on my GBA back then, I remember being fascinated when Nintendo announced it and go head over heels because I wanted one. I finally received one as a graduation gift from my sister along with Lord of the Rings Twin Towers, I played that game and beat it and then played it again to beat it with the unlocked characters, good times! I noticed that he mentioned about the screen being to hard to see on the GBA when he went back to play it years later and I have to agree. Back then I thought the GBA screen was perfect compared to the GBC or other hand held screens at the time, but now I have a hard time enjoying my games on that system ever since I started playing my GBA games on my PSP and then Android phone, the colors are more vivid, vibrant and everything pops from the back light, I also love having my full size controller in my hand compared the small cramped GBA shell.
Amazon wants 100 dollars for this K101. You can get them at AliExpress is 75 dollars. 100 is too much to pay, 75 is too much to pay, 50 is a good price.
many questions unanswered..... can the device play regular gb gbc and gba carts like the gba? have you tried the flash cart in an actual gba? (not just nds lite) no mention of the link cable port (which is awesome)
for $70 free shipping if you have a lot of gba carts its worth getting one because the gba sp 101 and gameboy micro would cost more that's if your somebody who likes to own real carts and not roms
it will play the game. if you have the original cart, the ROM can be modded to work, but the systems SD card loader does not have the sensor in it. I don't think any flash card as the light sensor or the motion detection's yet.
Hi, do you know if the console is saving already? A few years ago a lot of people had problems with that, mainly when trying to save GB and GBC games, like Pokémon. Thanks a lot for the video!
Thanks Toy! Did you save your games (GB and GBC) and everything went ok? Some folks just lost their saved files after 5-10 attempts for no reason. I ask this because I am ready to buy one, but this questions made me think more about. Thanks a lot! Cheers
At first i too thought that i wouldn't mind the aspect ratio, but you'll notice it more and more as time goes on. If they remake it with the correct screen i would gladly pay up to $ 300.
so you're saying it plays nintendo games & super nes gameboy? does it alao play game boy advance? can it play play station & 1.2,3,4? doesn't play sega games? what the price in 2018? how many games can it hold up too? how many gb in the system? where can i buy?? how long does battery last till i change it? my favorite games is river city random all super mario bro games..street fighters...so on..
do you have the Plus version of k101? i saw this cartridge working in a youtube video, i cant find it right now but when i find i post it here. there is also the confirmation in this list in the "compatiblity" session gbatemp.net/threads/k101-revo-official-gbatemp-review.339019/
+TacticalPower88 yeah I was debating for a while about it. I had a PSP 1001 a while back with GBA emulation and it was pretty awesome. I do like that the Revo is the same hardware as GBA so it's closer to the original, but I definitely agree with you though
+HUYI1 I haven't looked into how to jailbreak the PSP recently. I think the last time I did it involved a battery swap or something. I remember it emulating beautifully. Do you know if it plays all GBA roms without lag?
+HUYI1 I couldn't believe it! All I wanted was a good looking original GBA screen. I was stuck with either a terribly dim SP or a terribly expensive one 🙁 so I opted for the Revo
I'd like someone to create an upgrade of Revo K101+, where the handheld game is much larger and the screen is large also, which while support HD, it is not widescreen. I'm saying this because I have big hands, and I might accidentally press the wrong buttons during playing.
The EZ 4's biggest flaw is not being able to play fan games and Pokemon rom hacks. Does this play rom hacks like Pokemon ash gray? Because if it does, then this is something I would consider getting in the future
Well your flashcard should be able to run hacked roms just like it does regular roms as long as the rom hacker designed the rom with the original hardware limitations in mind. A lot, if not most rom hacks I've seen are designed for emulators only.
From what I've gathered, it seems that the discussion about WarioWare twisted support has all been referring to the Twisted CARTRIDGE, not running the game from the K-card. Many hardware clones don't support Special Hardware Carts, that's why people have specifically mentioned the WarioWare Twisted support. Doesn't mean it works from the K-card, it works from the retail gyro Twisted cartridge. Apparently this is actually one of the only hardware clones that can run the Twisted cart properly. Interestingly enough, I've seen claims that it DOESN'T support the Yoshi Topsy-Turvy cart, which seems strange as they use the same gyro sensor, but it certainly could be a software issue...
The reason that wario ware twisted doesn't work is because the original game has sensor hardware built into the cartridge that sends information back to the gba. Even if you have the rom software, you are still missing the additional hardware that is required to play the game. If you have an original cart of the game, then you will get the functionality that the sensor hardware provides. The same is true for any other games that have special sensor hardware built into cartridge. Boktai has a light sensor in it, so light sensor functionality will not work unless you have an original cart. Same goes for games with rumble motors in the cart. Rumble feature will be lost ( unless the revo has a built in rumble - I don't know if it does).
+Jason Rose yes they do come in that was the one I wanted however they weren't in-stock at the time 😡 I got mine on Aliexpress and they might have them instock now. Just keep in mind it'll take 2-3 weeks usually
I have to say I don't like the shoulder buttons. The normal buttons are ok. And with the D-Pad you have the problem then if you press down, if you press it like me, it can move the whole D-Pad, so it also presses down the right/left button. The screen is great. And compatibility is good. Only thing I've observed so far was with SMW that some backgrounds are black.
Who cares what other people think? The 'stupid' reason for buying the old ass GBA is that you know it'll probably work forever if you look after it because Nintendo builds good shit.
+Constantine Tsakiris if you enjoy GBA absolutely. A PSP will emulate this though. I just prefer the K101 because it's the same actual hardware if I want to play GBC or official carts they'll work perfectly 😁
Toy Gander wow thanks for replying that fast. This is probably going to be my first gba or gba like device and i really want it to last and to be able to play well on it.
But is there something better than this console or should i buy this one. Which one do you suggest i buy. I mostly want to play gab games and emulations.
You forget that you can actually change the aspect ratio of the screen with the hotkey + down. This way you can play GBA games as it should look. It emulates all GB and GBC games fine, also nearly every game for the old SEGA systems emulate fine. So you're not limited to only GBA and NES roms. And did you mention it reads original GBA cartridges? Bad review.
Im sure you've heard by now but there's another version of the gba sp, the ags 101 model has a higher quality backlit screen comparable to the ds... if you're interested you should buy one off ebay, they generally cost an anywhere from 20 - 50 dollars depending on the version/color
I'll say this: the 3DS, due to its *hardware* DS compatibility, also has *hardware* GBA compatibility. It beats out the Revo K101+ 100%, if you're okay with going through the 1-2 hour process of installing A9LH (total control exploit), you get all of that and more.
To GBA... no, since the closest go GBA for 3DS is the ambassors games, but, due hardware limitations, it doesn´t have save states and is very laggy and glitchy, but in a New 3DS, you can play GBA games with save states without any of these problems (except lag in most games, but is less at least), by using an emulator from the homebrew channel (mGBA)
Bobsican As a regular user of GBA virtual console games, I don't know where the "laggy and glitchy" areas are. I've played every game available as GBA VC, on every model of 3DS released (2DS, 3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL 2015 & 2016), and I have to say, it's very compelling. As a long-time visitor of the 3DSHacks subreddit, as well as a very active answerer on the Q&A thread, I know a thing or two about the 3DS-and one thing I know in absolute certainty is that when the 3DS loads a GBA Virtual Console title, it's not running an emulator. It loads a completely separate firmware from the one used in normal operation, called AGB_FIRM, into Arm9 and Arm11 memory, copies the VC title to the NAND, and then MCU Reboots into it, allowing the GBA hardware inside the system to treat the Arm11 as a GBA cartridge. The only bugginess in the official VC comes when you're trying to inject Pokemon games, which use SRAM storage (since AGB_FIRM isn't designed to handle SRAM access). The fix is to change certain values pertaining to memory type in the CXI before packaging it and installing it. Yes, there's no save states, and yes, there are a few bugs with the Pokemon games, but due to it being *hardware emulation* rather than *software emulation* meaning no slow-downs, even on a 2DS, no battery-hogging like mGBA does, and perfect compatibility with the majority of GBA games, with only a few special cases requiring extra work. By the way, if you're still reading, I think you should look into getting a Custom Firmware for your 3DS. You can put all your cartridge games on your HOME Menu, actually utilize the four-core 804MHz mode of the n3DS for improved framerates in 3DS games, have splash screens on boot, and much more! (best of all, it's completely free on most firmwares!) Here's the link: plailect.github.io/Guide/
I would have CFW in my New 3DS to can play even PS1 games, but it´s in the 11.2.0-35 firmware right now and there are only 2 ways of downgrading right now, and since the only ones are hardmod and fieldrunners... send help.
To be fair a lot of people can't downgrade to 9.2 to even install a9lh. I was at 11.0 (accidentally upgraded not knowing), and I was stuck with menuhax. I have to hardmod just to get a9lh. Not worth the trouble of soldering.
Exactly, but If you already have a large collection of GBA games this is something you might want. Its pretty much a moded console, a flashcard, a gameshark and a GameBoy Player all in one. And getting al those separate is gonna be much more expensive.
Excellent choice in background music.
whats it called?
you can change the screen size to match the resolution by pressing Light button + down a couple times, so the pixels aren't stretched, but then the picture will be smaller
Do you have enough links in the description?
+William McCarthy 🤔 not yet 20 more
+Arnold101Knight 😆 yup
Holy shit
Jesus dude, so many links xD
+217awsome 😁
Thank you for the review :) i was really looking to buy this console for a long time but wasn't that convinced till i watched your video. Once again thank you.
+Muaz Ali thanks for liking and your support. It really is a nice console
+cluelessart let me know how you like it!
Toy Gander got mine today and loving it! to me personally the best handheld. i wobt emulate anymore on my phone now.
+cluelessart I hear you on that! Thanks for the feedback
If I didn't have a GBA modded with the 101 screen, I would buy this. I still may at some point.
Also, I really like the clear casing, reminds me of the Glacier GBA (translucent GB/GBC/GBA were the best).
FireMrshlBill
Same bro I own a glacier gba
I bet he meant that tilting works with real cartridges as those normally include the acceleration sensor.
You can press the star button on the top of the device and down on the DPAD simultaneously to change the aspect ratio. There is an original aspect size, an upscaled size with proper aspect, and a stretch to full-screen aspect.
the gyro scope function from twisted is built into the cart thats why its so damn big
Yeah I thought that was obvious.

There are IPS screen upgrades for GBA now just change the screen and the old GBA will fly truly
The beat that's playing is incredible!
Amazon wants 100 dollars for this K101. You can get them at AliExpress is 75 dollars.
100 is too much to pay, 75 is too much to pay, 50 is a good price.
no they are running out don't tell anyone
Toasteroil I can't play NES other than in my TV, it just feels like reading a book in a smartphone
Can it play hacked roms like "Pokemon Light Platinum"?
This has a pixel perfect option if you dont like the difference in screen aspect ratio
How about the compatibility with solar powered games as Boktai saga?
If I put a megadrive game for example in this game console, does it recognize it automatically? Or is only for gba ROMs?
Great production value!
+Paul Johnson thanks for your like and comment. I've tried to increase the sound quality. 😁
The fact that this is like a to-go emulator makes me want to get this SO bad!
many questions unanswered.....
can the device play regular gb gbc and gba carts like the gba?
have you tried the flash cart in an actual gba? (not just nds lite)
no mention of the link cable port (which is awesome)
This device plays only GBA cartridges, GB and GBC ONLY trough emulation. The flashcart that comes with console, doesnt work on other GBAs.
Thanks for saying the cart only works with the handheld.
great video man i subbed and i ordered my own. in black .. only 45 bucks at aliexpress
+corsegerspwnd can you forward the link? $45 is a steal! Thanks for your support!
think there is a patch/fix for the Gyro
Can u make a video on how to put roms on the k card and what websites are good for downloading emulations?
Does it have rumble features? Can you play Yoshi Topsy Turvy?
That is built into the cartridge.
for $70 free shipping if you have a lot of gba carts its worth getting one because the gba sp 101 and gameboy micro would cost more that's if your somebody who likes to own real carts and not roms
This thing is not $70, I've seen cheaper sp's and micros.
So in your opinion would a CRT be preferable to an LCD for running this on? Thanks a lot and great video!
+Steelyfan77 yes absolutely
if its a Gameboy advancd emulator, why the extra two buttons?
I know I'm late to the party to comment, but can you save games on the Kcard?
wha tthe heck are the X and Y buttons for?
Hey.Does this play actual gba/gbc cartridges? if not idk if I'd wanna buy it.
Does it play actual Boktai cartridges? The ones with the solar cell?
+MaxSonic I haven't personally tried but I heard it does
it will play the game. if you have the original cart, the ROM can be modded to work, but the systems SD card loader does not have the sensor in it. I don't think any flash card as the light sensor or the motion detection's yet.
if you download ROM hacks or GB or GBC games, will they work? I would love to know so I can still play GB and GBC games and ROM hacks
Hi, do you know if the console is saving already? A few years ago a lot of people had problems with that, mainly when trying to save GB and GBC games, like Pokémon. Thanks a lot for the video!
+Caio Proença I haven't had any issues saving so far. I've been pretty happy with its performance
Thanks Toy! Did you save your games (GB and GBC) and everything went ok? Some folks just lost their saved files after 5-10 attempts for no reason. I ask this because I am ready to buy one, but this questions made me think more about. Thanks a lot! Cheers
Did it come with games pre installed like the retro mini?
At first i too thought that i wouldn't mind the aspect ratio, but you'll notice it more and more as time goes on. If they remake it with the correct screen i would gladly pay up to $ 300.
so you're saying it plays nintendo games & super nes gameboy?

doesn't play sega games?
what the price in 2018?
how many games can it hold up too?
how many gb in the system?
where can i buy??
how long does battery last till i change it?
my favorite games is
river city random all super mario bro games..street fighters...so on..
You linked your whole channel in the description
Does it play original gba game packs?
Yes, that's the whole point.
wario ware twisted works if you play the original cartridge
No it doesn't play I have it and it won't play!!
do you have the Plus version of k101? i saw this cartridge working in a youtube video, i cant find it right now but when i find i post it here. there is also the confirmation in this list in the "compatiblity" session gbatemp.net/threads/k101-revo-official-gbatemp-review.339019/
+Kevin Ruiz it does. ihave the k101+ and the original wario ware twisted cartridge and it works fine. Yoshis universal gravitation, however, does not.
+Localhorst86 Ok i try it now and it works; the first time I try it it wasn't working about a year ago!
Kevin Ruiz interesting, did you install any firmware updates or something like that?
looks like a gameboy micro, can it play gamboy and gameboy color games ?
Are you planning on getting the everdrive gba? I already have a backlit sp so I think the everdrive would be a better option for me.
+Inv8erZlM is it out yet. I've heard about it forever but have yet to see it
Yeah, but it's out of stock, apparently. The website said it was on backorder before, but now it just says no longer in stock.
If screen brightness was a key concern I would reccomend getting a PSP 3000 or a GO for essentially all of these functions and alot more
+TacticalPower88 yeah I was debating for a while about it. I had a PSP 1001 a while back with GBA emulation and it was pretty awesome. I do like that the Revo is the same hardware as GBA so it's closer to the original, but I definitely agree with you though
I agree on the psp 3000, nice big screen, buttons are good too
+HUYI1 I haven't looked into how to jailbreak the PSP recently. I think the last time I did it involved a battery swap or something. I remember it emulating beautifully. Do you know if it plays all GBA roms without lag?
+HUYI1 and i have a gba sp backlit model, why are they so expensive now, not going to sell it though...
+HUYI1 I couldn't believe it! All I wanted was a good looking original GBA screen. I was stuck with either a terribly dim SP or a terribly expensive one 🙁 so I opted for the Revo
Can you put a gbc cartridge into it and will it play it?
Is that TV out Mono only? The GBA can do stereo.
+MontyKensicle this cord only supports mono however if you get stereo cord I believe it'll work
There are two models of the SP the ags101
Will it play original GBA carts?
Are your NES roms compressed? Maybe that's why you get slowdowns.
+José Luis no they are unzipped
I'd like someone to create an upgrade of Revo K101+, where the handheld game is much larger and the screen is large also, which while support HD, it is not widescreen.
I'm saying this because I have big hands, and I might accidentally press the wrong buttons during playing.
Can u play the game boy Cartages- in the decic
Just GBA cartages but it emulates gb,gbc and some other ones.
Where did you get your revo k101?
The EZ 4's biggest flaw is not being able to play fan games and Pokemon rom hacks. Does this play rom hacks like Pokemon ash gray? Because if it does, then this is something I would consider getting in the future
Well your flashcard should be able to run hacked roms just like it does regular roms as long as the rom hacker designed the rom with the original hardware limitations in mind. A lot, if not most rom hacks I've seen are designed for emulators only.
+Daniel Hanga I'll give it a test and let you know
I'm Pretty sure I got Snakewood up on my EZ 4 ..... and yes it does run
+GAMAMA007 sweet!
+wildeasage ok now it makes sense. That's weird that it wouldn't work on others because the gyroscope is in the cart.
Anyone know if this can support atari lynx emulator?
These look amazing! Does anyone know if they make a model in black? I found one on ebay but am not sure if its real or a cheap knockoff.
+Jason Rose yes they do come in that was the one I wanted however they weren't in-stock at the time 😡 I got mine on Aliexpress and they might have them instock now. Just keep in mind it'll take 2-3 weeks usually
Does it play gb and gbc games
You forgot most important to test it out. The real cartridge. Not flash cart. Does this thing does support real cartridge?
does it have the link function?
Will this emulate SNES games also? or just gba? Thanks mate cool vid!
+Robin2win14 not well 😕
Thanks mate, I read up on it. Its basically just for GBA, everything else is a bonus
+Robin2win14 indeed
Jeez I just imagined a very posh treasure chest with a top hat and moustache saying "indeed" to me haha
+Robin2win14 😆😂
metroid can be playable without lag? i loved that game
the gba did not have gyros in the system, games that used it had it in the cart itself, so it will not work off of a rom.
can it play original Gameboy games ?
120$ for this thanks, better buy Nintendo ds for 30$ with m3ds simply.
how is this compare to a PSP? i already have a psp, its hard for me to justify buying a gba when i can emulate it on psp
Should i buy a 120$ gba or a 10 ds? Hmm I prefer the ds
Can you play gameboy color games no problem?
+Brandon Ramirez no issues 😄
Toy Gander nice. Thanks!
I didn't think gbc carts work though to clarify right?
correct. But they are emulated very well.
Could you play snes games on it?
Can play Game Bo y color games?
+BatatinhaFps CodXD yes!
+The 19th Fighter yup 😄 great thoughts
did it had all those games preinstalled?
+Ogtrillionaire no
would like to get one but man this thing costs more than a used psp which you can play practically any emulators
Does it have a way to emulate the link cable?
+M you can use the link cable on this
xD Well, I should have seen this before ordering my GBA SP, battery mod, case and EZ Flash 4 xD
+M 😆
way too expensive
Malik Crim it's Close to what the old one cost with more features.
Hazztech I got a backlit GBA for about the same price. If you have physical games I don't see why not playing the original GBA
Malik Crim ya compared to those backlit GBAs and similar emulation devices, especially those PiBoys.
Who cares what other people think? The 'stupid' reason for buying the old ass GBA is that you know it'll probably work forever if you look after it because Nintendo builds good shit.
You forgot about the Micro
+Pawel Halagiera love it but too small
Does it come with the sd card already or do you have to buy one
+Steven Bobadilla had to get one 😕
+Toy Gander I saw your review on the website aliexpress
+Toy Gander does it mater what type of sd card you use?
+Fappy I don't believe so just micro at least I haven't run across an issue
+Toy Gander what type of sd card did you use
Does it run GBA Doom normal? Even PS vita cant emulate it ok.
+Siegfried39ify plays doom 100%
Can it play real game boy games?
The gameboy micro has a led screen
+That Other Guy I love the micro however the screen is too small
Still worth mentioning
So it's console specific
I got my advanced sp 101 model for $70 and this is 120 wtf
so is it's buying?
Can you save states
+Super Zach 2005 yes
Toy Gander thnx I meant save states in the flash cart
What's a gander
+E Just Kidding a look 👀 or a goose
The better option is an original gba with backlight ags101 mod.
the motion sensor is in the game cartridges not the console. lol
+steelrain7.62API the motion sensor is one of the selling points on the Revo
You deserve this. Here, take my Like. ;)
does it play SMS?
+HyperSonic1999 or JTH not well
what about GG? not well either
+HyperSonic1999 or JTH not sure but I watched another review that says it plays well
Can you play multipyar
+Joshua Santiago yes
how does SNES work
+Brad Wright poorly
that twisted game had a cartridge with a accelerators and the ROM doesn't that's why it doesn't work for you.
Do you recommend buying this?
+Constantine Tsakiris if you enjoy GBA absolutely. A PSP will emulate this though. I just prefer the K101 because it's the same actual hardware if I want to play GBC or official carts they'll work perfectly 😁
Toy Gander wow thanks for replying that fast. This is probably going to be my first gba or gba like device and i really want it to last and to be able to play well on it.
+Constantine Tsakiris solid system I've had mine for a year still play it
But is there something better than this console or should i buy this one. Which one do you suggest i buy. I mostly want to play gab games and emulations.
+Constantine Tsakiris if you want to emulate do a psp if you just want a GBC/GBA machine get this
Is it can Play GB and GBC??
With emulator, not cartridge, it seems.
Do you have a link in where to buy this thing.
the clone doesn't play wario because it doesn't have a jyroscooe in it
You forget that you can actually change the aspect ratio of the screen with the hotkey + down.
This way you can play GBA games as it should look.
It emulates all GB and GBC games fine, also nearly every game for the old SEGA systems emulate fine. So you're not limited to only GBA and NES roms. And did you mention it reads original GBA cartridges?
Bad review.
Whilst I loved my GBA, to quote Heston you can take my original Gameboy from my cold dead hands ;)
Im getting it for my bday
only if it plays d's games too
Im sure you've heard by now but there's another version of the gba sp, the ags 101 model has a higher quality backlit screen comparable to the ds... if you're interested you should buy one off ebay, they generally cost an anywhere from 20 - 50 dollars depending on the version/color

As a regular user of GBA virtual console games, I don't know where the "laggy and glitchy" areas are.
(best of all, it's completely free on most firmwares!)

Not worth the trouble of soldering.
that is really interesting, thanks for sharing! If I could somehow put GBA carts into my 3DS it would be hands down the best portable ever
why buy this if you have a smartphone and emulator?
+Genrey Gonzales not dealing with touch screen buttons would be worth it in my book 😄
Exactly, but If you already have a large collection of GBA games this is something you might want.
Its pretty much a moded console, a flashcard, a gameshark and a GameBoy Player all in one. And getting al those separate is gonna be much more expensive.
