Paul George said teammates being traded from the Pacers early in his career made him not want to get close to anyone again. Which made him a bad vet for younger players. Trades suck for everyone.
Dang. I thought he wanted that trade.
That was deep
There’s a video of Derrick Rose finding out he was getting traded to the Knicks and it really shows the ruthless side of the buisness.
do you think you might remember where you saw that video? ;)
"Your socioeconomic status can shelter you from some pain and stress, but not all of it!" Sums up "Succession" in 16 words.
I could do a video on succession. I would love that.
Succession is a 10/10 show. I'm glad it wasn't dragged out.
a video on succession would be great@@whatslaps

first of all, i totally agree with the part of prohibiting trades in the middle of the season, in european soccer it’s always been like this, and actually it was weird for me seeing trades happening like this in the nba. also, during a lillard interview i heard that the hardest thing moving away from portland was not being able to see his family, but i thought families followed players, right?
anyways, great vid as always, keep it up
that is really weird that Dame would say that. Maybe he meant his extendedo family? like close friends? My favorite concept in European soccer is that you can loan out a player. Like he's a lawn mower. lol. Any way happy new year! glad you're diggin the vids.
looks like my comment didn't come through yesterday. I have no idea why Dame would say that. Maybe he isn't aware that he has free will? Or maybe he needs some me time. Thanks for the support. Glad you're enjoying the videos.
I remember when Danny Granger got traded from the pacers for evan turner and some stuff. Objectively they got a better player but I remember Paul George and the rest of the players talked about how it fucked up the locker room. Granger was George’s mentor coming into the league and then the rest of the players really liked Granger’s presence in the locker room. They were 41-13 with granger and then they ended the year 15-13 after he got traded, so they went from a 63 win pace and probably a chance to go to the finals, to another ecf exit
GMs don't think of the human aspect. they're not in the locker room.
I’m glad u mentioned the Magic! Such a fun team! Reminds of the Nets with Dlo
That was a cool team with duds, jarret allen, caris lavert and dem.
I saw some of your clips on tiktok a while ago but I've just found your youtube and i am basically watching every one of your videos that pops up on my feed now
That's what's up, man! glad you discovered me twice!
thanks for another great video man, love the content
Always. happy new year, man!
It's a tough biz, I love the trust between team mates but I can understand the feeling on not wanting to get too close to your team. Locking in players all season seems like a great idea but it would probably cause more problems too. Happy new years bruh 🔥
yeah, I'm sure it would. I'd still like to see those problems rise up. 😈 happy new year to you, brother.
Aight, I watched your RECENT video-even commented before watching-and here I am 5 videos later. Brother, you are either super talented or a UA-cam plant with how great these edits are and the quality of content.
Edit: there’s no shade there, your UA-cam channel is one of my new favorites.
no shade taken. thanks for the support and praise, brother!
Love the videos man. Very refreshing perspective in sports media and I appreciate your nuanced takes that go far beyond the stats.
Glad you're digging them! I appreciate the feedback
Trade stuff can definitely be difficult. The balance between the human side and the business side is tricky. In one way yes these are real life people that can be significantly affected by being traded, while each team is trying to do what they believe to be in the best interest for their organization. I think I theoretically like a lot of your ideas, but no in in-season trades would be a WILD change to the concept of teams/players view of expectations. I kinda like (the potential for) things getting mixed/changed up, it allows for new and different things to happen in the midst of stuff that may rightly call for a change. Plus when guys move around it's not just the same season getting played out over again, when things get shaken up and there is new faces in new places, it helps keep things interesting I think. But I generally understand your side of what you're saying and why. Anyway, another thought provoking video, so thank you again. Always good shtuff my friend.
Yeah, dude I'm getting roasted on tiktok for some of these takes. I think for me the trades are so often that I'm burned out on the drama. It's exciting at the trade deadline, but after I've seen these star players in every jersey in the NBA, it loses significance for me. I would love to see a "Hard Knocks" style documentary following a team through the whole season. Really see what these guys go through and the bonds they make with their teammates.
Loving that editing style, mate. Been a minite since the algo recommended something worth subbing, 'bout time it came thro
sweet! glad yt is doing it's thing!
I thinking in season trades are pretty important for the nba considering popular trades in season like the Andrew Wiggins trade that helped the warriors win a championship
true. they're fun as well.
I love the videos man keep it up
thanks man! will do!
Damian lillard is a perfect example of what this trauma can do to someone’s game
Yeah, he's been going through it pretty rough.
Ultimately trading for KD was a bad Idea. What they should have down and trading Ayton for a better big, put CP3 on the bench and let Cam Payne start.
I just remember Cam Payne taring up the lakers in 2021 first round. so sad.
That wouldn’t make them contenders either
@@andyabreu5627 They were already contenders.
@@emmanuelmondesir8677 they lost to the mavericks in round 2 before the kd trade. I wouldn’t say they were even top 5 teams in contention at the time, despite their record. They were struggling with injury with a more and more unreliable cp3. They needed a bigger change than just benching cp and replacing ayton with a marginally better center. The kd trade was probably not the best route to take, but they couldn’t just do barely anything and expect to get better.
@@andyabreu5627 They choked against the Mavericks despite having the best record in the league. They got worse after trading depth for a guy who got swept in the first round. They should have traded Ayton for a better big.
I liked everything you said in the video except the No Trade Clause, cuz it can lead to the player just being complacent like hey I don’t need to perform well, i’m getting my money from this team no matter what. It should be somewhere in the middle for the organization and the player, like a no trade clause as long as you “average ++ points” or soemthing like that. Just looking at the bradley beal situation, he can kinda just stay on suns as long as he wants even if they continue sucking.
yeah, that's true. end of the day a contract is a contract and it involves some level of trust on both sides.
Has there ever been a team that has won the NBA, made the finals or made deep playoff run with thier best player not being a top 15/20 player in the league. Like a team filled with top 50 but not top 15 players
04 detroit pistons is the closest one I can think of
Exactly Billups was the best player on that team, but everyone was solid all the way through the bench.
@@Mogollita_ and for context how good was billups?
@@chiragmc8374top 5-10 PG range, I would say. Some names still in the league and kicking at the time: Jason Kidd, Stephon Marbury, Steve Nash, Gary Payton, roughly peak Baron Davis/Steve Francis, Andre Miller and John Stockton
Prohibiting in season trades is a horrible idea. If you're a bad team or maybe a mediocre team and the trade deadline is looming you in your mind believe that your team has a chance to get somebody who might improve you before the end of the season. The same thing goes if you're the second or third best team and you pick up somebody at the trade deadline and have a really good second half of the season. That can't happen if there's no in-season trades. On top of that it gives us something to speculate about and provides a lot of interesting content. It's like a second roll of the dice. If you're a fan of a bad team and you know that you have no chance with your current roster then you're just going to tune out eventually. Even if it doesn't work out you still feel like your team is at least trying to get better while it still mattered.
You're totally right, but I think the offseason would be way more tense knowing you have to make a decision about your team before the first game.
Love your videos man
glad. have a happy new year, brother!
@@whatslaps happy new year!!
Dame is definitely going through some trade trauma this season; being from Portland, it's really sad to see.
he forced the trade though. less traumatic, but he's got other struggles going on too now. pray for Dame
Your very underrated hope you blow up
thanks man. I hope so too!
You also should have mentioned that when stars are outgoing or sub textually saying they want there team to trade for some player there also saying I'm willing to trade my current teammate for somebody else
that's a good call. Like the tension between Lebron and AD last year. Or Kyrie sneak dissin a couple years ago.
I don't doubt that it messes with people heads, like your entire life gets changed in like a matter of days, but I think instead of no trade clauses or no in season trades, maybe have like a grace period for the front office to say hey you're getting traded heres like 2 weeks to get stuff figured out. Have like transition meeting with the new teams and such. I doubt many teams would do it but it would be cool to have like a designated vet spot on the coaching staff for new or young players. Maybe a retired or ex player. While trades can have a negative effect in some cases, I do think it's made the league better overall. The more disparity in the league the better imo. I'm not one for dynastys.
I agree. there should be some warning. we're all adults just tell the players about the trade talks. It'll hurt, but they'll understand it's business and appreciate the extra time to prepare.
@@whatslaps For sure, like even young dudes coming in to the league get it , just part of the job. Like fantasy leagues do that, after the deals finalized it doesn't take effect for like a week. Do the same just make it a little longer.
So basically help the big market teams take all the best players if they brought in your rookie 1 year deals, rookies have a say where they go? I have to be missing something?
The one year rookie deals would be minimum contacts not rookie scale
Enabling more players to have a no trade clause is a good idea, but maybe limit it to all star level players and to players that sign an extension with teams that drafted them. Rewards players for their good play and commitment to a team.
yeah, we gotta figure out a way to put a stop to trade demands. I know a lot of people who have lost interest in the league because of the toxicity.
Barnes got traded for bust justin jackson & an aging zach randolph? Wtf? I forgot about this.
Plus draft Comp. Dallas was cashing out
Thanks!
god bless brother
I usually agree with all your points, but you want more no trade clauses, why? So players can dictate where they want to go even more? I'm so done with this player empowerment stuff.
what about this. a two way no trade clause? mutually assured destruction.
I always thought that no trade clause means the players can't be traded, period.
so the only way player & team can move on from each other is by finishing the contract
but apparently bradley beal proves me wrong
@@whatslapsi went back to my comment after watching your most recent video. Yes i like this alot more except the player can still have a hissy fit and play subpar if he wanted to
woop woop happy new years sir jelly dog, youre such a pimp
New year, same old jelly dog man.
I don't mind if players want to be traded.. But if you know you're a tier 1 superstar, don't go teaming up and destroying the essence of competition, man. Even Kobe was going to leave for the Bulls and Clippers back in the day (never happened, obviously), who didn't have guys of extreme caliber as he was himself. He wasn't going to go to the Spurs, Nets, Pistons or Mavericks. It's not so much if you leave as it is how you leave.
agreed. Kobe as a clipper would have been wild. glad west talked him out of it.
