Dear ❣️ you are a good inspiration 😂 my full day goes doing exercises a plate is inserted in my wrist i have to keep it moving every hour my ortho has said ❤ with love from India 💞 🎉
I'm trying to play pro tennis at 47 years old. And be at least top 50 in n the world. Hope your page helps me to get there thank you. @@arthritisadventure
In my 20s, long before the internet, I never imagined that near 70, I would be eagerly watching this video. But here I am, trying to get stronger and lose weight. And both knees reminding me that I'm not 25 anymore. You're doing us a great service. Thank you,
I am 68 yes, I'm angry £ jealous of your thighs my thighs used to have after my stroke&accident now my right leg is very weak ,after watching you Will Harlow and❤ a few others my doctors says I should have a hip replacement but all of are against it even my physio now my legs are very weak I just drop like got no bones or muscles what is your advise walking is very bad now d❤rom 7 K - 15 K now 3k steps is very hard am scared to walk
Alyssa, I just did your 45 minute walk with your in law grandmother. I am 63y and I just have to say, the video was Great, and you grandmother is AMAZING!!! 87y and TOTALLY Able to keep up!! She and You are So Inspirational!! Thank you! I couldn't find that video on my phone, so I thought I'd leave the comment here. Thank you. 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve had knee surgery on both legs, foot surgery and broke my leg years ago. Thru all that, I lost so much strength in my legs and can’t squat anymore. The hard part is getting started once you lost the ability and this video is going to help me build up to do squats again. I’m looking forward to using your videos as I age.
Oh Alyssa, thank you for showing us these squat variations. I am having knee discomfort. I had physical therapy done and it helped a bit. My time ran out. My therapist gave me workouts to do at home. I will use some of your squats and be consistent with them. I come to the realization that being a senior I will need to do them happily ever after 😊
Thank you, Alyssa for all the video content. My goal is to travel more, and sometimes solo. I find that chair squats, the balance and strength building exercises have really helped me with my confidence to tackle walking thru airports and dealing with the dreaded child height toilets without the fear of being stopped by OA hip flareups. Being able to do some of your videos before sitting in a prolonged position on a flight with very limited space, has made my travel goal more possible...more comfortable. While I can walk up to a mile thru an airport, if need be, flareups do happen. So that is when I dig into your toolbox for movements that I can do on the spot to help ease pain. I'll take the progress I see for now, and I remain hopeful that building hip strength will improve my ability to increase my walking duration and joy of travel.
Alyssa, I have been having some pain in my knees lately at 73. I am so fortunate to find your channel. I have been avoiding lunges and squats but just completed your video on squat variations. I took it easy but got through it and feel good. If I keep up with these, will my knees eventually become stronger? Thank you for your great exercises!
Excellent video! Your sincerity in wanting to help your audience, shines in this video as it does in all your videos. Thank you so much for working so hard in putting this video together. By showing us these different variations, I now have confidence that I can find one that I'll be able to comfortably perform.
Thank you for showing us these exercises. Now I know I have osteoarthritis. All along I thought I had a torn groin muscle and I did not exercise that part of my body. Now I will. 😀
Hi, I need knee replacement surgery. I’m 73, and due to bad advice, I didn’t get the operation and have limped for 4 years. My gait is unstable, and I have in the last year begun moving and walking very slowly, as if I were in my 90s. I am getting the surgery soon. Will I ever have a normal gait and will I move and walk more quickly again? I feel as if I am 100 years old. Love your videos and that you help people…thanks from my heart.
@arthritisadventure that's something I really need as I have one leg larger. But the thinner leg is stronger than the bigger leg. Can't understand why, either.
Thank you for hitting this myth on the head. I've filed it with "The only way to treat arthritis is with drug treatments." I said no to drug treatments because they are dangerous.
Excellent! I liked description and bullet points summarizing which variations are best for which symptom (tight ankl3s, front of knee pain, etc) I also appreciate summary list of the 10 variations at the end of the video.
I love doing squats, it really strengthens your legs, but it kills my injured knees and ankles. Exercising in water helps tremendously, but it’s not always possible. I’ll try again and go slowly , these exercise give me more options. Thanks for this video, I love it.
Hello, it’s me again. No worries! I only have positive things to say. Congratulations on earning your doctorate in physical therapy! I assume you have a DPT… your bio with this video states that you’re a “doctor of physical therapy”. I think that is impressive and it gives me more confidence when watching your videos. This is important because there are millions of flakes & frauds on YT, as you probably know. You seem legit, genuinely interested in exercise and mobility, and enthusiastic about what you do. Good job! 🏆 🏅
I was diagnosed with righ knee osteoarthritis. I had arthroscopic knee surgery in june 2020. So i need this to strengthen both my quads front, and back , and my inner thighs. And glutes muscles. Had righ spinal fusion surgery in march of this year. So i need to keep my lower body strong.
That exercise three with the exercise band around the top of the knees is brilliant. This looks like a glute muscle exercise. I will be doing this in future as my knees tend to veer in because of some degeneration . Many thanks for this excellent video
Fantastic video, thanks so much! I have knee chondromalacia and hope pain. I have a few questions: 1. How many of those can I do per workout? 2. I heard somewhere that you shouldn’t squat at 90 degrees, since is the angle with more tension, and that one should squat right before 90, or past it, is this true? 3. I also have ankle arthritis, as well as plantar fasciitis and pain right below the ball of my feet and on the heel, what shoes would you recommend for walking? (I already saw your video but with all I have it was not clear as of which ones could be better). thanks a lot!
I have been doing some strength training for my forearms. In place of weights I have been using big empty jars of peanut butter. I also use other sizes of plastic bottles. I just fill them with water. When I need more weight I just pick a plastic bottle filled with water. For my one exercise I lift a recyclable shopping bag with plastic water bottles in it. Saves money!!
I've had two orthopedic surgeons tell me to avoid jumping, running, squats and lunges due to osteoarthritis. They've then referred me to Physical therapists who tell me to do squats and lunges. It's so confusing! I stopped doing the squats when I got crepitus-squeaky knee. I want to start again but am afraid of more damage. Thank you for the variations.
I was researching so much about this, finally gave up and decided squats are not for me. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. What is the frequency of doing this entire set of exercises?
These aren’t necessarily meant to be done back to back to back. The goal is to choose 1 or 2 variations that feel good to you and focus on those- every other day
I had a partial knee replacement 18 months ago, when doing weighted squats, if I have my toes at 10-2 the knee plays up, if I point them straight ahead, there is no problem
I have no cartilage Dr said i should not squat again ever!! Do you think I can gradually return to squatting heavy after practicing this exercises for some time?
Squatting is vital for daily life and it certainly can be worked up to. As far as "heavy" is concerned, it is relative, and the weight that you are able to use is going to depend but it doesn't have to be automatically ruled out.
I need you as my personal trainer. You have the best content (by far) for lower body exercises and therapy!

Yes, squats are very possible after a knee replacement, it's just all about what feels best and gradually working up to it
