Jon, the Broken Banks likely refer to the Outer Banks, a region of North Carolina famous for dangerous sand bars. It was historically a frequent pirate hideout, most notably Black Beard.
The New Plague (or Blue Flu) is an interesting bit of lore in the Fallout Universe. It was going to be part of the story of Van Buren but from the canonical story, the Pan-Immunity Virion Project (later the FEV project) was designed by West-Tek to find a cure for the disease. Its likely that the Swampfolk are infected with a mutated form of the plague and it is likely that Macready's son in Fallout 4 is infected with the disease because of the blue boils and fever characteristic of the New Plague
I always assumed The Broken Banks was a reference to The Outer Banks. And Tobar was telling you how far North to south he sailed. From Boston to the Carolinas.

Thanks John. I think this DLC is Bethesda's best work to date. The atmosphere and structure as blind content really impressed me back then. Good challenge, not sure why you choose to reset XP rather than not utilise lock picking though? I always thought the dodgy point blank hit detection was due to hit box collision? If the boxes intersected the calculation would be impossible due to range being omitted? It's traditional to ask for the maximum friendliness run of NV at this point. Bad weight to value ratio doesn't matter if you're near a shop. You should be picking up literally everything to sell. Don't forget that Tobar has bobby pins. Also be way more careful with your ammo. 4 shells to take down a dog when you could lure it to the robot was bad, but wasting two to show how wasteful the gun is was even worse. EDIT: It gets worse. Pre-war money's weight to value ratio is infinite. I love you John, but why are you making things harder for yourself?
"Though you know, Bethesda physics so potentially I could just be hit by shrapnel and be annihilated". Oh... so you mean they accidentally got that one right then? Pretty sure that is actually how shrapnel works my friend.
God I just wish Fallout could go back to atmosphere like this. Fallout 3 is my favourite entirely for that, I don't give a damn how well written New Vegas is, it's a great game but I never feel like I'm in a post apocalyptic wasteland where danger lurks around every corner. While the story beats of this particular DLC aren't all that brilliant compared to Far Harbor, I wish Far Harbor took notes from it. There's no tension in Far Harbor what so ever because the second you go in there's that ridiculous fight with dozens of monsters who just attack for...some reason? Does it ever even explain why the creatures just attack humans en masse like that? That takes me right out of any sort of immersion. "Longfellow's Cabin is under attack" By like 15 Gulpers, 5 Yao Guai, 3 Fog Crawlers and some Mirelurks. Who all just work together. For Fog reasons. While there's a lot less going on Point Lookout felt far more creepy and dangerous.
Just discovered your channel and this content is my favorite by far from what I’ve seen (because I love fallout) this content will definitely bring me back for quite a while. Going to binge anything in these kind of games. You’re awesome at this

34:45 sure hits different in 2020
Just as I was contemplating going back and rewatching a matn fallout series I see this beauty
Proxel I feel that I’ve watched both YOLOs 3 times already hahah
@@TheRubberMatch same, it's become a yearly tradition 😅
Matn uploads Fallout.
All is right in the world
Gets attacked by trivial enemy
" GUYS I'M BUSY."
Point lookout gave me my dream of living in a decommissioned lighthouse.
This is the sort of quality content I want
For the next "Level 1 naked run"
I request Far Harbour level 1, it's not as bad as it sounds
itsTenziin I’ve done it - it isn’t toooo hard, but hot damn the creatures are deadly.
@@AHoardyBoi The beginning part wasn't hard, it just took longer than it normally would've took, especially with limited explosives and tickle weapons so I just let the residents take care of things
@@kierangolding5738 That does indeed go against the whole point of the given challenge title
haha, This is basically how I started my first Fallout 3 game. I am feeling the good nostalgia.
Point Lookout was arguably one of my favourite dlcs, so full of mystery!
Will be very interesting to see you complete this at your level with your gear. On very hard I have found this set of quests very challenging with even the best gear. Gonna be really cool watching this.
"IT'S EMOTIONALLY IMPORTANT TO ME!"
It's the fucking lighthouse, isn't it?
Yep
Remember Jon, whatever you do;
Don’t pay the Ferryman
Don’t even fix a price
Don’t pay the ferryman
Until he gets you to the other side
"Longfellow's Cabin is under attack"
By like 15 Gulpers, 5 Yao Guai, 3 Fog Crawlers and some Mirelurks.
You’re awesome at this
You’re in for a real treat! :)
Yeah... Essays are long. But that being said, every one of them so far has been of exceptional quality, and always worth multiple watches to really appreciate and absorb the information given. I (personally) don't mind if they take weeks or even months longer than expected when they're of such incredible quality! Keep up the amazing work!
