Another tip for the Soviets! You can time your justification on Turkey with the Southern Thrust focus which gives you Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran as well. Doesnt provide much, but gives you more ai friends and denies the Germans of virtually all their oil
Go full soviet onion, do this, then do the Japanese and Chinese foci to get even more puppets, get rid of the army foci, and skip to the end for the comecon economy buffs
@@krazeyish I love justifying on Japan as Soviets day 1. You get a ton of factories, a massive navy and can get comecon around the start of '38. Even better on non-hist and you get the event to declare on Turkey
For those who don't know, the reason why you want to swap your tank across to specifically designate it as anti-air (and include SPAA in your units rather than normal tanks) is simple: SPAA needs fewer tanks than normal tanks. A batallion of tanks is 60/50/40 depending on if it's light, medium or heavy. A batallion of tank destroyers is 30/24/20, SP Artillery is 36/36/24 and SPAA is 15/12/8 - so SPAA uses 20-25% of the tanks. Thing is, the amount of armour that a batallion uses just depends on what type of tank it uses and whether it's got enough tanks. The number doesn't matter - having 8 out of 8 tanks is just as good as 40 out of 40. In vanilla, SPAA and SP Arty has reduced armour to account for the reduced requirement. The tank designer in No Step Back allows you to make SPAA and SP Arty with as much armour as normal tanks though - so you just slap on the simplest AA gun you can, chuck a few in your divisions and off you go.
@@rambleroodle2369 SPAA gives the same Anti-Air stat as regular AA (Air Attack). The basic tier 1 is a tiny amount less than basic towed/motorised, but towed/motorised don't give you as much. This won't contribute to air superiority (green/yellow/red air) - instead, it will reduce the impact of enemy CAS on the division, and has a chance to shoot down enemy CAS. It won't disrupt enemy fighters, though.
I think ironman could be made a lot better if you can make only one save and you got to decide when to use it, would make the sucky random event achievements a lot easier to deal with while still making the skill of setting up important while also allowing it to function in the same way as you were thinking with people using it as a day 1 save
I would have said that heavy SPAA is broken, but the problem is that irl it would have been even MORE broken, given the feats of abysmally bad KV-1 and T-34 of 1941, but only against germans, who relied on tanks, halftracks and CAS to push. So maybe rather then nerf, it showcases that battle calculations should be done differently depending which doctrine nation had chosen? Because heavy SPAA would do nothing against artillery spam ie brits.
@@lolasdm6959 well, he didn't create Gepard. Given the timeline and descriptions involved, it was more of a TG/T-35 hybrid with sloped armor and armed with 25mm autocannon. So like 1939's BMPT-62. Considering that he built enough of them to saturate the frontline, germans were annoyed to no end when faced with those:D
in the game soft attack and hard attack are modelled weirdly, SPAA more akin to irl should have relatively large soft attack, its basically a mobile machine gun emplacement. also they did spaa dirty in hoi4, imo motorised arty should do a lot more damage to represent the fact that car can move heavier artillery than horse or men (and motorised in general eats so much supply its hardly worth it outside of speedy medium tank divisions)
@@YakubMyBeloved not really as while it is great against soft targets, it is great ONLY against soft targets in visual range with clear line of sight. It's a competition between 20mm autocannon and MLRS that removes from existence whole enemy divisions from dozen kilometers away. So yeah, due to ingame mechanics that don't take into account combat "depth", AAA would have low soft attack value.
About the heavy SPAA space marine Strat, this is honestly one of the most busted and easiest ways to win as the Chinese against the Japanese invasion, not even early light tanks can’t pierce heavies with 50+ armour, and being an AA piece the CAS damage is usually manageable / you can grind their plane count down easy That plus a surprise paradrop on the home islands, and you’ve got yourself a super charged china in 1939, manpower is not an issue, you just nommed the Japanese factories and fleet, plus a focus tree that can make you on par with the soviets or Germans in before Barbarossa even starts…… time to find some more dopamine
With several hundred hours of hoi4 under my belt, mostly as poland, I can safely say I've only 'won' once. Hopefully, with the space marine trick and conversions, I can get this 'delightful' game to give me a second win.

Other method to selecting all units of the same type from Soviet stack on start is to click those division symbols next to the Commanders name. Does the same as double-clicking, but no need to pick from the list the stuff you want, just pick the decision symbol. Also, turkish puppet sometimes goes nuts. So kicking Romania first, then giving turkey to Romania. Solves the turkish tree quite nicely.

It seems the strategy of building compliance in Poland as Soviets doesn't work... at least for me, running RT56. Because Poland caps to the Germans and you get the land via event it doesn't count as them surrendering to you, so the collab government isn't triggered.

I’d LOVE a navy tutorial. Just one that says how to destroy the AI as a smaller nation with a superior fleet.
