Owning both a GT and a Himalayan, I personally would like a 650 twin version of the Himalayan. The 650 is a great powerplant and would add another dimension to the Himalayan. I ride my GT through the national parks in Thailand over gravel roads and do a lot of touring on the Himalayan in Australia (20,000klms in 3 months riding). Both great bikes. 😊
I would not recommend that (although it is in the pipeline). The twin is a pretty heavy engine and is not really suitable for an adventure bike like Himalayan. The 450 Liquid would actually be the way to go forward.
As all dirt bikes hit the deck occasionally, at least mine did, I'd call it the RE Gravelrash. Sell like hotcakes regardless of name. Thanks Stu.
That's why most dirt bikes are plastic everything, tank, fenders headlight bucket etc not like those 1978-79 Ag 125-185 I saw outside that country pub with metal tank, fender etc.
Plastic parts to save weight & to be able to be dropped with Ltd damage ie modern farm bikes take a hiding.Wouldn't want to drop a RE or Triumph
Scrambler. If it just a gravel road bike RE & Triumph Scrambler type bikes be sweet if want to ride in mud, river crossings, sand then a smaller plastic type bike like a 250 Vstrom or new 250 Benelli type bike be the one with 21" front wheel for the sand.I wouldn't ride a RE Scrambler in the mud & sand only gravel & dry dirt.
@@ruahinesrider didn't u order me one of those ag bikes? The one with the least sheep and cow shit on thanks.
The 'RE Spect'? - the 'RE Splendent'? . . . not, . . the 'RE Sponsible'!! Arrrgh! . . . (Sickening thud : )
@@daintree2455 That's how a Ag comes😁😆😂🤣.
I definitely liked the bike in the thumbnail. I would definitely like to have one like that one. it's AWESOME!!!!!
I have converted my INT 650 to an adventure tourer. I don't ride it on trails, but it handles great on dirt and gravel roads. Recently took a 3000 mile trip that included everything from 1 lane dirt roads to 75 mph interstate highways. This is an awesome bike
How is it comfort and vibration wise at 75?
Do you have a fairing or windscreen?
I demoed one earlier this year and it was assloads of fun
I would love do the same. I’ve been trying to decide which RE I’ll get as a second bike in a year or so.
I’ve always wondered why people didn’t simply do this.
I took mine down highway 7 in Chile to Tierra del Fuego, perfect bike for that trip.
A scrambler interceptor 650 would be my dream first bike
Rode my interceptor in March to the tip of South America, with 50/50 tires installed. The tires caused a slight wobble at highway speeds. Was a great trip but a dedicated scrambler with higher fenders, wider bars, would have been just perfect.
The Intercepter looks like a good bike for South America. I live in Argentina and any competitors like a KLR or V-strom 650 are about $16,000 and up. A new Intercepter is selling here for a little over $9000. I could swing that. Current bike here is a 2008 Falcon 400. The Falcon is working well but a little more power would be nice. I would love a scrambler, it reminds me of the old Triumph TR6 I rode for many years.
As soon as I bought my used 71 plate interceptor I had a vision of it looking much more upright and street scrambler-ish. So in increments, little by little that`s what I created. While all the other guys were buying and fitting Hitchcocks bolt on upgrades to achieve the look they wanted, I done a few unusual mods ;
big chunky knobblies, BSA B50 handlebars, plus bar risers, raised the tank 45mm at the front only, raised the clocks and headlamp (new slim h/lamp to get it right up the forks, passed the ign. switch). etc. it`s riding position is bolt upright which offers great seat comfort, no numb bum. It now reminds me of a 1970 US spec interceptor. Wish I could upload a photo. Thanks Stuart for all your postings
Thank you for the video Stuart
I think it's great that Royal Enfield continues to flesh out their range with both 350 and 650 cc versions
Interesting to eventually compare it to how well the Himalayan does dual sport
Time will tell!
I was waiting for the Classic 650...but a scrambler complicates things - for the better!!
Very interesting Stuart.. As a Thruxton R owner I would love this as a comfort jolly, might even serpass the need to use the TR. I regularly swap/ride local mates RE Interceptor & GT's 650's and do not find the power wanting at all. The gearbox is vastly superior to the sloppy Triumph box while the brakes are a tad woody but thats to be expected along side the massive Brembo's on the TR.
That original Interceptor in the beginning of your video may be the most beautiful British bike ever made. I’m 70 years old now and I’ve admired them since my teens.
I agree. That and the US spec BSA rocket 3. Though I prefer the twin sound. They are both the pinacol of beauty, ironically just as both companies were shutting down.
Agree.... many customers screaming out for a Scrambler version of the 650..... what are they waiting for? The sales of the Himalaya are a good indication......
It looks and sounds like a real bike should with that "Steve McQueenesque" look, just itching for a great escape. I'm sure it rattled and leaked just like every other Enfields of those days, To their credit, almost every other retro twin you look at these days wished it had that original scrambler look. Nice video Stuart, thanks.
I like "Bear" as a name, but I also liked the Hodaka names like "Wombat", "Combat Wombat", "Road Toad", etc.
All British motorcycles handled very well off road doing the old Hare and Hounds. I used to chase my German shepherd home on the dirt trails leading to the lake she loved to swim in. It's easy on a Triumph.
I have an orange interceptor like yours, but its in Northern Utah!
Que buen adelanto tío Stu.. 👍 ✌️
Nice insight cheers for the video! Looking forward to seeing what may come at the international motorcycle shows over the coming months. Love what RE are doing at the moment with their 350 and 650 series engines. Hopefully in a year or 2 when I look at my next bike I will have the choice of this and even a couple of other classic/bullet themes motorcycles
Love your videos. Just completed a cruise from Southampton westward & north visiting England,Wales,Scotland, and Shetland island. Your rides with your dialog are so informative. Mike from Bloomington, Illinois USA
Morning Stuart, the "Bear" should offer good value for money compared to Triumphs scramblers! I should imagine it will be a good looking bike, but for now I'll stick with my matt grey 350 classic and fit a set of trail tyres on it , the ideal size bike for a 68 year old shortarse like me for a nosey up the lanes and trails during a road trip !
It'll be interesting to see how many 🐻 Bears appear in the woodlands in the spring! 😆
Cheers 🍻 have a good weekend 👍
This looks very interesting. Judging from the front spy shot, it looks like RE were trying out different front indicator positions due to them being at different heights. I'm going to the Motorcycle show at the NEC in November, so hopefully Royal Enfield will launch the bike there. At this stage I am not sure if I would ditch my Interceptor for the new bike, although I'm keeping an open mind.
Love the idea of an Interceptor Scrambler, bump it to 750 please…….🤔😉
Hi Stu,
Another great video.
As I've said before , I'm currently in India. I've been to a few Royal Enfield shops whilst here and the word here is that the new 450 cc Himalayan is going to be released around November time. So it would be strange if royal Enfield would release 2 models around the same time. But who knows.
Keep up the excellent work.
Gary from Aus.
I am extremely happy with my RE Interceptor 650, but I hope that someday they develop a 750 or 800 engine. I’d buy that 650 scrambler though.
847 on the way
@@hakshayak2044
Please mate, where did you take such information from?
I'd love to read and learn more about that new 847cc powerplant.
Peace from Brazil. ✌
@@felipedourado5721Enfield is testing a lot of things, but don't expect it to get out sometime soon.
They are launching a new 450 engine in a week or so but then we have the long wait for the new 850 engines.
However, expect new launches in 2024.
A new 650 or 450 is on the way, other than the new Himalayan.
Looking forward to the scrambler,,big fan of scrambler type bikes,l currently have the interceptor,👍
I’m waiting anxiously for this bike: 840 mm bench seat with 22 cm of ground clearance and 180 mm of suspension travel… oh boy! 😊
for me it would be 805mm seat height with 180mm ground clearance & 180 mm of suspension travel 😄
Brilliant video as always Stuart and I can't wait to see the finished article 😃👍🏻
That’s the bike I’ve been waiting for! I also can’t wait to see what Motone Customs come up with. Thanks John
Seconded. I still don't know why RE haven't taken on Triumph in this segment sooner.
If you wait for Motone I hope you have the patience of a Saint?......still awaiting the levers Stuart had a prototype of almost 2 years ago !
I'm in defo, no matter what they name it.👌🏻👍🏻
Need a bobber version 650 RE! Make it happen!
Already in the pipeline. Search for RE shotgun spyshots
This is such great news. I would trade my INT in for a scrambler version in a second. I would love it if the exhaust was mounted high like a classic scrambler but not as huge as on a Triumph.
Hi Stuart,
IIRC, Yamaha had a 2 stroke twin model in the 1960' s that they marketed here in Canada, as a "Big Bear Scrambler" 250cc and 305cc versions. The Royal Enfield version is much more tastey.
Bear sounds a good name for the offroad version of RE.
CLICK the LIKE button because Stuart is awesome !!! 👍🏼
I own a Interceptor 650 and forever waiting to add one more to the garage -> Himalayan 650 🙂
Scrambler based on Interceptor 650 is a no-brainer. Many riders / garages made the conversion already themselves.
Great video. RE Big Bear Scrambler rolls off of the tongue well. But Yamaha may own the rights to that one.
Yamaha had a scrambler version of their 250 YDS road bike (I had the yds3 in the UK in 1967) on the US market named 'Big Bear'.
I want one! But my wants and needs live on completely different planets, just ask the wife. 😊
I hope she is a "want"!
I can't see any reason why RE didn't build this bike years ago. I feel they dropped the ball. This if it looks as good, they will sell them more than they sold the standard interceptor.
Looking forward to seeing the bike show and how the bear turns out.
It would sell well.
Once again Stu a cracking insight and forecast? as to what may be on its way. Keep it up mate 😊
If the scrambler comes like the tumb nail photo, it' s my cup of tea! Please with big bore cylinder and 65 HP! 😊
In 1972 my cousin and I bought the new Honda 350. He got the CL, scrambler and I got the CB road bike. If I had the money, I would have had one of each. I would love to have a scrambler, but one without the tech of modern bikes. I’m too big to be comfortable on an old CB 350, but I think I could be very happy on a RE 650 Scrambler. At 71, ABS is probably a good idea. And I do have the money for a new Scrambler and an INT.😎👍
Yes please!
Morning Stewart. Not quite sure what to make of the name? But as the saying goes... If your going to be bad, be a Grizzly.... Have a good weekend and see you next week. Until then, safe enjoyable riding sir 👍😊.
Interesting. Nice one Stuart. I must say, Royal Enfield have come out with some cracking bikes over the past few years! I’d love to own one at some point, but which one to choose, especially if this 650 scrambler is released shortly???
A very good move from RE but the promo pics area all on-road so I guess that’s where they are targeting it. The exhaust is in the wrong place for anything but very light off road adventures so unless there’s a hefty bash guard attached, stay on the tarmac. It’ll sell well as an Interceptor alternative and I’d much prefer the Bear over the road bike. Perhaps they’ll put out a furry version! Polar White or Grizzly Brown.
RE would sell all they could build and end up with a 12-month waiting list if this bike was produced and the price was kept under $7,000......guaranteed.
I recently got Interceptor and its my first parallel twin so i love the engine, but i honestly think it deserves better breaks.
@@worldofameiso5491 Yep i honestly think if I'm upgrading anything, it would be brakes, I'm not sure exactly but are they using same brakes they are using for 350cc bikes?
@@worldofameiso5491 I need a break from scrolling UA-cam... 🎉
Have you tried using sintered brake pads? I felt on my Interceptor that in wet weather, the originals were left wanting - after mounting sintered back and front, it made quite the difference
@@frankysworld i haven't tried any pads yet, do you suggest any good brand pads?
@@muttineni03 I use Ferodo Carbon Eco-Friction, I find them a bit better then EBC (less dust)
I get to see these bikes on daily basis along ECR Road, Chennai - Interceptor 650, Classic 650 shotgun, Himalayan 450, Hunter 500 or 650.
The RE riders keep testing these 3models since early 2022 !!.
Now that Himalayan 650 is set to launch on Nov 7th. the other should get inline as well in the upcoming days
Love the analog speedo and tach!
Good to se RE listening/watching to the market closely. Could be a hit but I'm just not feeling low-pipes on a scrambler....but that's just me.
Think I've found my next bike...👍
Nice Vid Stu...😎👍
Not perfect being a twin but no rad and not too heavy the potential for a decent semi off roader at a great price would make it a hot seller in my opinion
I hope they keep the twin clocks on the finished bike
Luv seeing the Yorkshire rides...❤
Hi Stu. Honda had a scrambler in the mid '60s . Possibly the very one that help kill-off the original RE. And I think it was marketed in the US as the Bear. If so , revenge ?
It's come back to me. It was called the Big Bear Scrambler
Subscribed - great stuff!
i’ve been waiting to see the production version of this bike since before EICMA 2022. hopefully they reveal it this year!
One of my favourite motor cycle names from history is the "combat wombat". I'll bet the rights to that are free/cheap. Regarding names, how come suzuki didn't run into problems with the "carrot", i see that name being used all the time in Morrison's.
Id like a light RE 650 scrambler. I'll mod it into a military inspired bike. And call it RE 650 scout or RE 650 Recon
Great video as usual..I think if they price it right it will be a seriously popular bike but I do get the feeling (350 platform-bikes aside) that Royal Enfield may be on the crest of the premium-wave with the larger capacity bikes taking them so much closer to the costs of Japanese & European rivals and I hope they can keep costs down , undercutting rivals by offering simple elegance without the premium price tag!
Interesting listen Stuart, thanks. I hope you're spot on but, unfortunately, I don't think the evidence is there yet. The Classic teaser suggested more bikes & only one was released, we now see the Himalayan 450 teasers with a launch expected beginning of November, RE seem to launch one model at a time? I think with the liquid cooled platform about to launch I don't think they'll distract from that this Autumn.
Have you noticed they've also patented the name Guerilla with rumours of another 'off road' focused bike on the 450 lc platform. ... they've definitely a gap in the range for Scramblers, for me it would be exciting to see a launch of scrambler options, on the 650 & 450lc platforms, the Bear & Guerilla? Pure conjecture, but i'd be excited about a genuine Scrambler 'that can' ...maybe a specific Scrambler launch end next year? ....there's a new rumour😉
Good chat, keep it up 🤘🏍
Morning Uncle Stu.
Uncle Stu "beef" bringing the good news!
How many more years do we have to wait for a Classic 650 to be released.
Signed me up for the bear because my name is Jer and my birthday is in November….. did I mention I love scrambler’s big yes
I think it is the shotgun 650 ,, based on the SG650
no rear monoshock? i hope they launch a similar engine in liquid cooled, aircooling in indian summers is a barbecue for the riders legs
Blimey, those Lambda sensors are all set to be knocked off or do the rider a mischief! I hope that the RE engineers have done some fettling, neither the Conti or Int are lightweights in road form.
A little bit off topic, I'm sorry. But I'd like to ask one question about the touring seats of the Classic 350. You have had both seats in use, stock and touring ones for the rider. Do You think they give the same sitting height or is one of them making distance higher?
Perhaps RE are exploring animal names and the Buffalow is not to far behind.😂
The old British motorcycles were 100 lbs. lighter. The 650 is not much lighter than my Sportster. Took it off road chasing my German shepherd once . No fun. And to think that it was HD s dirt bike.
Hi Stuart,
Been watching your channel for a while, decided to subscribe.
I went into my local Enfield dealer in2moto in Warrington Cheshire and he has told me today that all stores that sold Enfield that was connected to motogb are no longer going to be selling enfields anymore, I don't know whether you know anything about this I have known for a while that Moto GB are not the importers anymore but I didn't know that the dealerships aren't going to be selling enfields it looks like they are only selling what is left in stock, so that is going to be a real blow for the consumer and I don't know which dealerships are going to sell Enfields and as far as your warranty goes and getting parts that could become a real issue. I for one think Enfield has got too cocky and if things don't work out right I will certainly be selling my enfields, let me know what you think about it
All the best
Pete
It's perfectly normal for any company to change the main distributor
Since RE is doing so well all over the world and has built it's own reputation
The high margins that a new distributor gets will not be offered when it's time to renew
It's for the distributor to make the new terms work or leave
What moto gp tried to go was to break the market by offering their stock at large discounts making life difficult for other dealers and customers
I can't believe Royal Enfield pissing about like this !!! Why is it taking this long ?
Hopefully it will be more than just a rumor this time as the last "big" announcement proved to be rather small!
The Himalayan is a bike that , to me , screamed out for that 650 motor in it , finally i think they may be biting the bullet ( no pun intended lol ) and getting into the adventure market in a serious way , or at least have a bike that you could base an adventure bike on , let hope so .
Hi Nice roads you ride on
It is gonna be called the sherpa
I hope the company will change the clutch cover to something of beauty.
It looks like a deviled egg flipped over!
Can’t wait 😛
How about a Royal Enfield Roamer?
Not sure re the "scrambler" myself. If I want to off road have my Himmy otherwise I'd like something like the Meteor/Classic.
Ideally from Royal enf what interests me is something for touring with more bhp. You can with any of course but a 20 litre 60 bhp or so with a deep sound.
P.s Have seen some guys kit thier classics for camping so can be done..guess the new Himalayan is designed to fit the niche I like..
Anyone riding a 650 twin hard off road is a hero, so I assume most will spend their lives on tarmac.
Ahhh, the music. You have a fine ear sir. I have to assume you have played some music in your day.
What ever happened to the Shotgun bobber? Given up as a bad idea? I do admire the Super Meteor, and given the choice I would take the Super Meteor over the bobber every time. Not very fond of bobbers, unless they were made in a shed in the 40s and 50s by some anti social hot rod enthusiast...
Thats expected to be their next 650 release actually, the Shotgun 650. It would be great if they release this Bear/Scrambler 650 on EICMA next to the Shotgun
Looking at those photos and all the wires feeding back into the top box it is obviously still in the testing stage and it being done in Europe makes me think it's not being aimed at the Indian market. Just wondering whether the ground clearance is sufficient for "proper" scrambling or whether they are looking to just fill a gap between a full road bike and the higher off road capability of the.Himalayan.
'Bear'?… That's got to be RE taking the piss, Stuart.
It's ironic that Honda nicked 'Interceptor' (and Dominator, Shadow, and Hurricane) from earlier British bike models and registered it as their own (in the US), so are RE having a dig at the Japanese industry by registering 'Bear', which was a Yamaha model in the US at one time. Then again, Yamaha used a BSA model name for their cruiser range in America (Star… as last used on the A50/A65 range in the early sixties)
Maybe the new street scrambler will have a different name in the USA?… Or a jumble of letters?… Who knows?
Right, Yamaha had something called Bear, when I googled it I got pics of a two-stroke scrambler.
But personally I'd say the name should be more product specific, otherwise people ask: Is that the Scrambler?"
The name should start with "scr", like scrap, scrape, scratch or scram. My favorite: scrod. :)
We just got the Super Metor added to the USA Royal Enfield site. Looks like we will get it sometime soon. I was wondering if you would describe it as more like a classic cruzer than similar to the other 650's? Does it still feel like a classic Enfield or is it chasing after a different style?
Long over due 😊
I'm not a huge fan of RE, more like RE curious, but if it looks like the one pictured in the thumbnail, I would definitely be interested in buying.
They seem to be having alot of single speedos that are not in the center and im not a fan if that do you think you could put the interceptor tein tachon on one of these and the super meteor?
Morning
Stuart what was the bike you were riding with the red tank
classic 350
G reg, and it looks brilliant. The new one will doubtless look good, but I'm more excited by the impending BSA Scrambler. Why not call RE's Royal Enfield Scrambler? Leave Interceptor out of the name.
For me the bike will be far too heavy. It will be a Costa Coffee warrior favourite tool.
Do some weight training!
Uncle Stew. Does the Royal Enfield come standard with the up and over risers, and also I remember watching you put on the gold decals on the tank, was wondering is something like that available for a 2012 T100 remembering the gas cap is on the right side of the tank? I prefer the water style stickers because they aren't as bulky as regular stickers. Having trouble sourcing them here in Australia
No the risers are from Motone Customs
♥
Interesting but do you not think a bit weighty??
Don't want to bang on but again a j class 500 trial/scrambler. The 500 EFI was a very prity bike. The 350 range also could have a scrambler in it, the hunter is close already.
Let's see what comes out at the shows.
well all I can say is petition Your Government to get rid of all the emissions crap and they will be a lot lighter. Personally ive never found the weight of any of these bikes to be an issue.
