    Convertible seat: • Installing a Locking C...
    If you want complete information about seat belts, check out my web page: carseatsite.com/lockingclips.
    *Owners' manuals use the term "automatic locking retractor" to specify when a switchable retractor is in locked mode. There is a true "automatic locking retractor" which locks when the seat belt is pulled out approximately 8-12"; I have a video showing this type of retractor at the end of this Seat Belt Basics video.
    †Owners' manuals also use the term "cinching latchplates" instead of the term "locking latchplates." I use the term "cinching latchplates" here in the video since that is what's used in the owners' manual.

    Me, looking for a short and simple video showing how to lock a seatbelt for a infant car seat : "am I really going to watch a 17 minutes video on seat belts?"

      That's just about the best comment you could leave-thank you! I really love teaching seat belts to new techs in class and to parents at events. It's really the foundation to child and adult safety in the car.

    You helped me secure my kid’s front facing carseat. I was nervous about the wobbly car seat and thought I must be doing something wrong. Google brought me here and I learned lot of stuff. Thanks again.

    Hi, I'm wondering if I would need a locking clip for my car seat since my car doesn't have the ALR function. I know all U.S vehicles seems to have ALR but not other countries.

    • @CarSeatSite
      @CarSeatSite  2 роки тому

      Hello! You're correct that vehicles outside the U.S. don't have locking retractors. I don't know why that is. If you've confirmed that your seat belt doesn't lock in any manner, either at the retractor or at the latchplate, then yes, you'll need either a locking clip or a carseat that has a true lockoff. If you're in a country where you can purchase a U.S. seat, this list may help you: carseatsite.com/lockoffsbelttensioners/. Otherwise, look to see if any carseats available have lockoffs.

    Hi! I have a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado - no matter what I do, I cannot get the seat belt to lock for car seat installation. Not sure what to do! The manual doesn’t have those details - or at least I can’t find it.

      Hi there. It's possible they may not lock. What country are you located in? What model year is the Land Cruiser Prado?

      @@CarSeatSiteGood day i just purchased a 2024 Audi Q3 from a dealer in my country can you say if there is a locking feature with my seat belts? because I have been trying to install a car seat and the seat belt is not locking. I live in Jamaica I have asked the representative and yet to get a response.

    • @CarSeatSite
      @CarSeatSite  2 місяці тому

      @@trilliandouglas6986 Hi. It's likely that the retractor doesn't lock. You'll either need to use a locking clip or buy a carseat that has a true lockoff that locks the seat belt. I suggest reading the owner's manual online before buying a carseat (if you're in the market); in the seat belt installation section after it tells you to close the lockoff, if it tells you to lock the seat belt, it's not a true lockoff. I have a video on lockoffs here: ua-cam.com/video/ASKRvkTsS5Q/v-deo.html

    What is the tab, and how do I install with that?

    • @heatherw.689

      Do you mean the folded over piece of webbing that keeps the latchplate from sliding down to the floor? If it's in the way of a lockoff, you may need to slide the carseat to one side a bit in order for the lockoff to close.

      @@heatherw.689 yes thank you!! I have an evenflo revolve…. I can lock it but it’s outside the lock off and still in the belt path. Hoping that’s alright!
