A Walk Around PEASLAKE and GOMSHALL | SURREY HILLS
Вставка

- I’m back in The Surrey Hills visiting a couple of Hamlets below The North Downs. I first take a Walk around the isolated Village of Peaslake and it’s Victorian Church and then up to Gomshall that lies on the busy A25 Road. Lunch is at the newly refurbished Gomshall Mill with parts of the Building dating back to the 11th Century with the River Tillingbourne running under the Pub.
NB. I nearly didn’t release this Video due to an Audio issue on the Raw Footage where it came out really quiet and I have no idea why. I’ve attempted to fix on Edit and boost Audio but still not ideal by my standards so apologize for wonky Sound.

I didn’t notice anything wrong with the sound ( apart from the annoying workmen 😖 lol )
There are ALWAYS Workmen when I'm doing a Video 😆😆😆@@Jannie-
A taste of England the birds sound happy
Surrey is so pretty- the trees do make a difference to a walk and can hide what’s round the next bend- a nice gentle walk- thanks
Thank you Marq for another beautiful video! Richard and Julia just mentioned you and your love of church doors in Surrey! Love all the sights and sounds of spring!! All the best to you from Massachusetts!🥰
Thanks Sherry, I need to give Richard a call actually.
Lovely village I’ve never heard of. Thank you for showing us around. Beautiful Church, such a cute spire and the clock beneath, you know how much I love churches ⛪️
Good to see the ramblers 😀 and what a wonderful pub wow 🥰
There's not much there but still always wanted to visit.
Thanks Marq, what a lovely place.
Jolly good! 👍
Great video and the mill is very interesting .
I really enjoyed that little tour thank you Marq. You’re great at what you do 👌. Subscribed 😊
Thanks very much, appreciated!
Another lovely video Mara thankyou
Thanks Valerie.
Although we are actually from New Zealand, when we discovered Gomshall last year, we loved it so much that we bought a cottage there on the banks of the Tillingbourne. We rent it out through AirBnB when we are not there ourselves, so that others can enjoy this beautiful village too.
We love sitting on our lawn by the river watching the ducks, trout and crayfish, then popping in next door to the Compasses Inn for lunch or walking another 100 yards the Gomshall Mill for a pint. Its new owners have done a fantastic job of refurbishing it. Glad you liked your meal there.
Best of all, Gomshall in central to so many beautiful walks through the Surrey Hills. You walked from Peaselake. Our favourite is the ancient Pilgrims Way route from Winchester to Canterbury cathedrals, which just across the road behind the first paddock. The area is so full of ancient history and natural beauty. My wife, who is a botanist, loves exploring and taking pictures of all the flora and fungi.
P.s. You will be pleased to know that the Lavendar Goose, which you described as a derelct eyesore, has now been demolished, and new construction is underway on the site.
Thank you for the that information, I've always loved The Surrey Hills and with regards to The Pilgrims Way, my Friend and I walked (over 18 Months) The North Downs Way back in 2017/18 which I did Video and is on this Channel.
Great video Marq… love Gomshall …I remember when the Gomshall Mill was a series of little craft shops up and down steps in little rooms …with a restaurant in the middle …good to see it still open 😊
Thanks Marq. Since following your channel, I've realised there are so many beautiful timber framed buildings in Surrey a d this was no exception. The old mill did indeed look old inside. Lovely place for lunch.
Surrey continues to surprise me and I've live here most of my life.
I would recommend a walk nearby north of Gomshall, "Horsley Diamond Jubilee Trail". Along the trail are the Lovelace bridges, some of them restored, some not.
I did that Trail a few years ago but may do again and Video it.
And we are back to burgers! One day Marq might have a pint of cask ale, the horror!
I haven't had any Ale since 1999 actually.
I lived in Purley, Surrey until I was in my late 20s and I have never been to Peaslake. It’s very pretty and I’m glad you changed your mind about that Victorian church!
I have lived in Canada for most of my life but I will always miss pub lunches and old buildings and higgledy piggledy villages.
Hi Marq, haven't driven on the A25 for ages but I do recognise the Compasses Inn.
Pretty part of Surrey.
Thank you for sharing this video
You're welcome Cathy.
The Hurtwood Inn is a great pub in the village of Peaslake. And fab food. Love going up past the church to the top of Holmbury Hill, the viewpoint being the inspiration for Here Comes The Sun. A Beatles' fan mecca. The Shere Millenium Trail, a walk from Shere to Peaslake away from main roads and across farm land is fabulous.
I didn't know that about The Beatles Song. Thanks for that.
@@MarqEnglish When I walked to the summit on the path from the church at Peaslake and got to the top there were excited Beatles fans there and I duly took their photos for them. And loved the amazing views. I believe George Harrison then went from Holmbury Hill to Eric Clapton's house which is nearby -Ewhurst is ahead from the summit.
@@COMEINTOMYWORLD I really wished I'd known this when doing the Video.
@@MarqEnglish But this is an opportunity for another visit and more content! Sure I spotted you in Ewell last year. All the best. Maybe do the Hogsmill from Bourne Hall to Ewell Court for a fab video x
Wow good vid Marq must admit like you never heard of Peaslake and unlike you never heard of Gomshall
Peaslake didn't seem that peaceful! I loved the diddy little spire on St Mark's church. Gomshall Mill looked beautiful and interesting place for a meal.
Even in this semi-remote Hamlet, there is still all this noise!
I have vague memories of walking around Peaslake with the scouts on hikes many years ago. It’s a lovely part of the world.
It’s great to see Gomshall mill open again - there’s quite a lot in Gomshall that has closed over the last couple of years so it’s good to see some reopening!
I'd recommend The Gomshall Mill for a Meal. Really lovely Pub.
Holmbury Hill lookout has amazing views if you've ever been, better than Leith Hill.
I'll take your word for it Tom.
