    The Secret of Cabot House is one of the most interesting quests in Fallout 4. The player deals with a pre-war family that’s managed to survive for over 400 years thanks to a mysterious alien artifact… an artifact which allegedly drove the patriarch of the family, Lorenzo, completely insane and got him committed to an insane asylum.
    At the end of the quest, the Sole Survivor must decide whether to free Lorenzo or banish him to the shadow realm. The game makes it seem like killing Lorenzo is the best outcome. But in this video, we’re going to explore why you should free Lorenzo instead.

      i honestly wish this quest wasn't some forgotten quest to the rest of the game, like here we have an alien artifact and that is influencing a man he's immortal and has had this artifact on his head for hundreds of years, why with all the institutes resources didn't they take notice of Jack Cabot, like the story is so damn isolated, it's almost as if they don't exist in the world except within this quest, then you can also get that alien weapon Jack gives you which is a diffrent artifact alien gun from the little green aliens that crash land, like they are both isolated stories with little to nothing to draw off of, one would assume they were connected or something.
      i was honestly disappointed in this quest, i hoped they would have taken Lorenzo's quest further, like make him having the children of Atom worship him, because in their eyes he would have been considered one of the chosen of Atom, but no the quest is super lame and you only get that short story with that short outcome that is treated isolated from all other quests in the game, like there is no mystery to it, everything is just too well explained and not extended in anyway like you have would thought.
      like i honestly hope someone uses that eleven labs tts program to write a quest involving Lorenzo after you side with him, wouldn't it be so cool if he became someone in the major quest plotline down the line in the story? then since you sided with him, perhaps you can use him as a follower and he has added dialogue though other cutscenes through other quests in the game like any other NPC follower, and when you reach his top affinity threshold you get some perk from him, it's just he's treated as this endless source of his serum, but it doesn't really elude to anything in the end, it's just like a nothing quest.
      the outcome to the quest feels like wasted potential, like so many other quests do in this game.

      To play the devils advocate for a second... Some of the greatest medical breakthroughs in human history were made by people operating in super shady, or downright nasty ways. Experiments on prisoners, conquered peoples, etc. Now the overwhelming majority of people would never conduct such morally dark research/experiments etc. But the vast majority of people alive today have or do benefit from them. When we find out a medical breakthrough came of the back of morally wrong activities we generally don't throw that knowledge away and refuse to use it. We condemn it as wrong, but "hey, we ain't throwing away that cure" It's an interesting thought experiment... If you knew Lorenzo doing bad stuff, killing maybe, 20, 30, 40, innocent ghouls. Would result in finding the cure for going feral, thus saving many thousands of other ghouls from that horrible fate... Would you look the other way? Or is the moral cost too high?

      to bad the story was so damn isolated, like i mean there were opportunities all around the place for other possible story based connections.
      like the fact of the institute who's been spying on everyone have eyes and ears everywhere and yet, they know next to nothing about Cabot house?
      like it makes no sense to me that they wouldn't know something or possibly send someone there to extract knowledge of what's going on.
      i mean i suppose if the soul survivor as in you are really a synth and doesn't know it, it's possible you are the infiltration unit of the institute stealthily obtaining the information, but it's never brought up to the institute in any way possible, not even the serum you obtain comes to question with some kind of quest to research this stuff, it's just so damn isolated that it boggles the mind why bethesda left the story so damn isolated, like if you play the institute quest you learn they tend to snatch people from the commonwealth for all kinds of reasons, like that one guy who ended up giving the institute nuclear power for the institute, that guy they were spying on and even sending him secret material to test him to see his skills to see if he was a fit in the institute, like why not offer that same thing to the Cabot house with Jack, the guy is very open about his theories so much so that he allows the first stranger that Edward deagan hires to know about his father's theories on the alien civilization speech and his findings.
      like there is so much loss in potential story telling with these stories that would match up if given the chance, but it never happens, just like the crashed UFO site and the green alien quest, it exists so the player can get the gun, but there is no story that furthers on this idea of the aliens or any research option into them in any way, not even the Cabot quest has any relation to the green alien quest, like you can't even present the green alien gun to Jack and have him investigate it, like the gun is supposedly a Zeta gun artifact like the gun he has, but it appears more advanced than the one he uses that is called Zeta gun, or is it 2 diffrent alien species, we simply don't know these details, it's never brought up in any way.

    • @user-tp5yb4hr4w
      @user-tp5yb4hr4w 23 дні тому +3

      the outcome of the Cabot quest is also lackluster as well, like you are given the choice to kill everyone or kill Lorenzo or kill mostly everyone except Lorenzo, it's all very lacking.
      i mean arguably you are a better person if you choose to kill Lorenzo, but Lorenzo offers something far more worth your effort, the artifact gun is super lame and i prefer my bullets or plasma rifles over that any day as i consider that gun more trash than anything worthy of using in any way.
      i would have loved if they extended Lorenz's quest in some way, like maybe instead of finding him kill some random NPC's just to observe his insanity.
      instead he ends up running the children of Atom and they worship him as their savior and he becomes this massive enemy to fight up against near the end game within the glowing sea.
      something like that would have offered far more value to the story instead of the very lacking story ending that we got in the vanilla game.
      like idk if bethesda planned to make it a bigger quest or not, maybe they did have a extended planned quest, but they ran out of time and didn't expand the quest in any meaningful way, so we ended up with this very lackluster quest.
      going on my idea of what i just added to a possible quest, let's say it's based on your choices in far harbor, and it causes Lorenzo to take notice that it was you who destroyed them or perhaps he knows that you did something to cause the children of Atom leader in far harbor to stray away from the path of division, so that starts a quest of the growing movement of the children showing up in the commonwealth attacking your settlements and that leads to an all out war with the children of Atom up against Lorenzo in a massive fight in the glowing sea.
      so which ever faction you chose to be the leader institute, brotherhood of steel, railroad, minutemen, can go up against him and his army with you and your allied factions to destroy them.
      just think about something as cool as of an idea as this as a ending result to allowing Lorenzo to live, wouldn't this have been so much better than what we got?

    Option 1: Kill the Cabots and let an immortal psychotic mass murderer free in the Commonwealth. Option 2: Kill the Cabots. Because what you neglected to mention is that 1) Lorenzo was imprisoned _because he killed people,_ 2) Lorenzo continues killing after escaping, and 3) the Cabots begin to rapidly age after losing access to the serum. Wilhelmina dies shortly after Lorenzo; Jack is shown to be much older just a week or so afterwards.

      Exactly. Dan glossed over Lorenzo's post-release killing like it doesn't occur. Allowing Lorenzo to go free is a detriment to the Commonwealth. IRL we imprison people harmful to society for life and even sometimes get benefit from them in the form of free labor. This situation is no different from our own reality. And we have no solid evidence that Jack hasn't been trying to cure his father. It could be that he seems less enthused because he's already tried everything he can imagine and has found it to be a fruitless endeavor.

You find him examining the bodies of some dead ghouls. He has a curiosity about their biology. It's kind of reasonable for him to want to kill his family, they kept him locked up for four hundred years. There is no direct evidence that the random encounter was either not him just having found the bodies of the ghouls or that the ghouls didn't attack him first. Even if we gasp, clutch are pearls and come to the conclusion that he is *insane*, how does that make him any worse than every single raider in the game? So, he never attacks any of your settlements or trade hubs like Diamond City, he sometimes kills ghouls, but not the ones you know are not feral and you can't prove the ones he does attack weren't feral, maybe he kills a few raiders and super mutants along the way, but the thing people are claiming is that he is doing it because his psychotic like if he somehow wasn't psychotic we would all be telling him, "welcome we have a bed and some food for you right over here."

    On Jack's terminal in his office at Parsons there are records of special patients that were placed under his direct care. Lorenzo is one of them, and it more or less says he might have been given the death penalty if Jack hadn't convinced them his crimes were from being insane, so apparently there were some serious crimes from Lorenzo, he has hurt people in the past. --- This feels like a lot of choices you make in Fallout. There just isn't one completely morally right answer, and all choices are questionable. But having played through maybe a dozen times now, I tend to free Lorenzo; the serum is pretty useful, and as far as I've seen he doesn't hurt anyone in the settlements.

    I found it interesting that in Jack's ending he claimed "he would have killed both of us", but in Lorenzo's ending, he never so much as tries to harm you afterwards, displaying at least a measure of gratitude. I think you're overselling his morality, though. Lorenzo's definitely a cold-blooded killer, just not an indiscriminate one, and not one without some small sense of honor.

    • @Blippitybloppitybloop
      @Blippitybloppitybloop 28 днів тому +2

      I always side with Lorenzo because he's the only member of the family that isn't an entitled prick. Everyone in the game kills something. Institute murders people no problem, and so does the brotherhood, but no one says jack about them even though they do far more collateral damage. The only difference between Lorenzo and the player character is that the player character acts out of self defense, but is still killing people. And you can't tell me that everyone that has played this game hasn't accidentally killed an innocent civilian somewhere along the way by popping off random grenades/nukes/explosive weaponry from a distance with a stray bullet. It's pretty silly to argue about the morality of it when the player character becomes immortal and can do good things in the lands for all eternity vs a single lifetime. Lorenzo killing a few people is a small insignificant thing in the grand scale of all things. If Lorenzo wasn't doing it, a raider would. At least Lorenzo is doing it for study instead of pure greed and entertainment. I think far too deeply about things...

    I wanted to on my current run. But my save file is bugged and I can’t find Emogen Cabot 🤣

      I had the same issue on a previous run, you'll have to use console commands to advance the quest, or reload a save from before you finished Special Delivery and start the Emogene part over again

    I still want New Vegas 2 with the Cabot House Aliens as part of the main plot.
