  • we are making hybrid pen blanks with and without a pressure pot. We are going to accomplish this by using 2 different types of resin. The first is Alumilite Clear Slow and the second is Liquid Diamonds epoxy resin. We make hybrid blanks which are resin and wood blanks. We are also resin casting these blanks to have a color separation swirling affect. We do this by casting the resins at certain temperatures. I cover lots of information in the video and I hope you gained something from it.

    Jake, good, well done video. I'm new to resin and have been binge watching tons of videos. Yours was the first to mention using rice to figure out volume to use. That was one of my big questions. Also, I noticed you didn't use any mold release...your thoughts on when\if to use it? I'm close to my first pour and appreciate you mentioning start small. I had planned on a few pen blanks for my personal use and was glad to hear we are on the same page there.

    • @JakeThompson
      @JakeThompson  3 роки тому +1

      I’m glad you enjoy the videos Larry.. it’s appreciated.. I use mold release most of the time.. if I have to hot glue something down, I won’t use release because I want the hot glue to stick. Sometimes I don’t show putting release on because o forget to show it.. but I use it most of the time.

    @johnwallace4408 3 роки тому +1

    Very informative! You mentioned stabilized wood for your castings. Could you have coated the wood with a couple coats of shellac to seal moisture in? Of course, surface moisture would still have to be dealt with. Thanks, John

    • @JakeThompson
      @JakeThompson  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you John.. I have done some before I started stabilizing that I coated with a thin coat of resin.. it turned out ok.. the other thing to think about is most of the time the burls we use are brittle and can come apart while we are turning.. if you have some that isn’t brittle.. coating it works fine, but I would still make sure it’s dry.

    It's great to see someone else admit that they are a Falcons fan and putting up with the exceptional agony and embarrassment of a lead blowing team. Losing to Brady in the Super Bowl after such a huge lead ripped my spirit out. On top of that losing to the cowboys in similar fashion making Dax look like a super hero.... arrrggggg.... Just once before I die I would like to see a super bowl win!!!

    Buddy I've watched all your videos, and i love 'em... but you gotta deal with that echo!

    • @JakeThompson
      @JakeThompson  3 роки тому

      Once I build the resin room it should be resolved.. The echo is there but it’s not for the lack of money spent or effort.. I’ve purchased at least 4 different microphones over the last couple of years to no avail. I’ve done voice overs but viewers don’t seem to like them.. it’s just hard to control an echo in a 2,000sqft tin can.. lol stick with me Buddy. 👍👊

      @@JakeThompson hmmm - did you ever try setting up a sound deadening panel behind the camera? The cheap solution would be one of those big felt moving blankets from U-Haul, hung up behind the camera and mic. That might help kill the most direct sound reflections?
      I'm surprised the lapel mic didn't help more, you weren't shouting into it were you? 😅
