This would be really cool from a townsperson’s perspective. All of your problems like the evil countess who bathes in blood, the mummy who lives in your sewer system, the demon woman who’s taken over the kingdom all start mysteriously dying one by one ever since that half naked guy ran out of your village that one day.
I remember the day that man apperated into town. In an instant he was there, and in an instant he was gone. Then the rumours trickled in: the Den of Evil cleared; Blood Raven ravin' no more...
I heard that madman brickworked countess bathory inher castles walls!! the joke don't work that well sadly since you just beat her the death in game but thats what they did to the real countess elizabeth bathory when they got tired of her butchering young women..
I love imagining this from the townsfolks perspective. You look out your window from your peasant hut and see this wild, nearly naked man covered in whatever he's ripped from the corpses of demons screaming and wielding a wooden stick and yelling about how he needs more bag space for magic scrolls. Your eyes meet, and in response he flees in terror screaming about how he's not allowed to make friends.
Always appreciate how we stop to admire the details of a remake we thought we’d never get. And another hilariously British and entertaining video. Hope we have more of these challenges coming!
Man the sheer amount of Patience and dedication of this vid makes my daily 1 hour grinding seem puny..Hats off to your will bro and a Happy New Year!! Keep up the good work..
This has to be the most unique challenge run of D2 that I've seen. Not being able to repair items and just having to change them up with whatever you find as loot is really fun, keeps you on your toes. Definitely trying this out on my own (though I'll likely only go through the first 2 acts since I'm very bad at it lol).
Thanks dude. The hardest part was actually never feeling like you could relax. The towns have such an important part of letting you calm down after a boss, that without that it felt really tough to have to carry on without a break. Good luck, let me know how you get on!
It's fun how much the challenges change what makes a "good" item. A blue shield or set of gloves with self repair and nothing else is a big deal, lol. Cool video!
I've tried an Iron Man barb run similar to this but with really complicated rules. Anyhow, when I revisit this I'll do it HC, only play each area once - no going back. I've played this through normal, but can't seem to go beyond NM Act 1. When you've managed durability, then the next biggest challenge is damage output. However, in the past I did miss the fact I could hork as a barb. If you do this run again, here are some tips: 1. Using thrown weapons as melee weapons will give you access to items with much better longevity. Essentially the quantity acts as durability and can far exceed 100+ on some items. 2. Rare items with repairs durability become really, really valuable. You'll keep backup weapons until you can find self-repairing weapons and this would include thrown weapons (used as melee weapons) with replenishes quantity. 3. Ditto weapons with life leach or items with good health regen. 4. Belts with zero durability still let you store pots. 5. Bows don't have durability. Arrows (or cubing bolts) can be found everywhere. Or horked. Tri-socketed bows with emeralds, or better Tals, can take Meph, Diablo and Baal at range. It's safer and easier on the pots. Keep this on swap. 6. Go Double Swing/Bash. You'll attack faster and at lvl 9 double swing is mana free. As in, you don't have to worry about mana pots. DS/Bash allows you to be weapon agnostic, but dumping 1 point in mace or sword mastery is something I hadn't considered before but worth it for the modest boost to damage. 7. As others have mentioned you can repair items with the cube. I save this only for premium items, usually unique items. e.g. a Bonesnap on swap or strength/steel/black item on swap. 8. You can use chipped gems to reroll magic weapons. 9. Look out for life tap wand being dropped. Really helpful taking down bosses if you go melee. 10. You can use a magic amulet plus one of each kind of gem to make an all res amulet. 11. Life shrines eventually reset like wells. They take longer but I've used that for some boss fights. On my runs, if an identify tome doesn't drop then its a PITA. Then again, after a while its only worth identifying rares and uniques anyway. I could argue that identifying blue items at all isn't worth the scroll. Depends. I'd only consider using small charms and they can be re-rolled with perfect gems too. EDIT: The only gems worth keeping are Emeralds for poison damage, unless you're going for a cube recipe of some sort. Also if you do manage to survive into NM and beyond, then the opportunity to upgrade/reroll items becomes possible. Hope this helps.
Well done! And very cool concept. I couldn't imagine doing a no-town run. You wouldn't know this, but poor Charsi had to pack up her shop; business wasn't doing so well without a champion in need of repairing items.
just wow :D thanks for your sacrifice for our entertainment ;) I also got my thinking cap on about how to resolve the non-repairability issue and throwing weapons mastery came to my mind :D you made a good point saying it starts to shine at levels 40+ - build calculator shows that at skill level 15 you get 99% chance not to consume quantity, adding replenish on crit and possible "replenishes quality" on the weapon itself would make the life of poor Jayden a lot easier :D
Jayden Brayden is such a relatable character. In a world full of monsters, demons, murderers and zombies the most terrifying thing in the world is social interaction.
Great challenge. I did this a few times with barb. I did no save and quit. If i did need to quit for the day j finished a zone and resumed from the next zone, no backtracking. I also gave myself a tome of ID if i didnt get one in barracks bc spending 3 hours to not get it sucks
Pish! You say you never go into town, but you also say, "We're going back to the mall", and, "I really enjoyed the mall". Everyone knows the mall is in the town! ;) A fun video, very enjoyable...even if it was humbling. My first run with the Barb years ago was a grind, even with the help of the townsfolk. GG! (Also, have you thought about doing a "Zoomed" run? Resurrected allows for the up-close-and-personal experience. Thought it'd be nifty to see a playthrough from what is almost a 3rd person perspective. Don't know if it'd be challenging or possible though.)
Thanks brother! I did think of zoomed it, but couldn't decide on a spell to use. Maybe charged bolt as it's quite up and personal, plus sorc without range would be tough.
@@prophetezekiel Indeed! And who knows? Maybe folks would find it claustrophobic not being able to see more of what's happening. Just watched your Fisticuffs o' Faith video, and you do a lot of zooming in for that, which felt organic. In any case, you're doing good work here. If there's any justice in this world, we should see that subscriber count continue to climb. Cheers!
I was thinking of a few runs that you could do. One I just thought of was Merc only. Using the merc as your only offence and whatever you can in order to keep them alive. Aura's / enchant etc. The character class I leave to your discretion (Paladin would be the obvious choice but may be a bit easy.) Also, an aura only run. Whatever auras you want, but you can't hit anything yourself. I just made a fire aura druid with this and it was pretty wild. Relies heavily on runewords though for anyone other than the paladin.
Final episode of my binge watch maraton, don't know what I'm going to watch tomorrow :( For your no magic challenge you should try Sacrifice Paladin - hits pretty well, nice synergies and auras available, should be fun
BloodRaven is the corrupted rouge class from Diablo (1), it's amazing for lore to save her from misery. Just as we do the Summoner. plus before Tzones. the moz and crypt were lvl 85 in hell.
38:00 the Diggler could be used in the off-hand for resistances, and since Concentrate doesn't use the off-hand, added resistances without durability loss!
You can always cube three magic rings or amulets together to get a new amulet if you do rings or an amulet if you cubed the rings. Would have been useful for this run since you had so many at once so often
@@prophetezekiel Not only that, but usually by the time reaching in NM or Hell, if stacking up enough on Orts and Rals, they are for repair durability recipes. Ort + weapon in cube fixes it, and Ral + armor fixes it.
Kinda feels like what Diablo was meant to feel like. Barbarian having Find potion and Item skill, Sorceress having Mana regen skill, the Durability... Just a low fantasy survival hack and slash RPG. 👌
Yeah agree with this. It's a close compromise but true ironman is a lot more hardcore. This was extremely tough, but I'll be honest poison dagger in hell...
Holy evening just want to let you know that throwing mastery works for poison/explode poisons the rep quantity! little unknown fact! PS at the time typing this i don't know if u adventure into it! (15 mins in) Cheers man.
OMG during your walking through i completely forgotten about the book of tp/id books in the shelf what a relief! was thing on doing a exception of having at leas those books haha GGs!
I’ve been watching your videos. The commentary and editing is very engaging and entertaining. What will you do when you run out of challenge ideas? I think just normal edited playthroughs would be entertaining. Or would you consider doing condensed playthroughs of other ARPGs?
The difficulty is moving away from D2, as there are so many more to try, and mods now. I dont want to just do D2 content so will likely do something very different like Return to Moria or Mist Survival. Any recommendations let me know!
@ Cool ideas. I didn’t even think of D2 mods, that would be great. Not enough people showcasing those. I also think game hopping would be good too, your style works well IMO, so I bet you will do well regardless of what you play. I’ve subbed and will be keeping up with your releases. Best of luck and have fun!
Javelins aren’t infinite durability if used as melee weapons. I used to think that. But try it. After use the number slowly decreases and you can repair to replenish the stock.
Love the content so far. With you saying how easy mercenaries make it, how about a merc only run? You get to kill blood raven, but after that all damage must be done by your merc?
Jayden Braydon the Barefoot Hobo Barbarian; the hero no one wanted, but the one they got despite… except for those barbarians still locked up in Act V.
teleport is incredibly fun they just needed more mobility options for the other classes as well as making zod grant +1 teleport instead of indestructible. my 2 cents.
I always think charge and leap were the beginnings of decent mobility skills. Teleport should have a cool down, or been replaced with phasing for a sorc. Zod just doesnt have the drop rate to make me buy in, but that might be my reluctance towards end game vs my love of early to mid game.
Great commentary. I don't get the disappointment over ethereal items though. You can't repair anything, so there's no downside. Just the extra power. I'd think you'd be prioritizing ethereals
It was more the half durability that was the issue. There was a lot of frustration with this run in the reality of playing before editing, and that's why I'm probably disappointed as the turnover of equipment was quite high!
I thought you could repair items in the cube? RAL & ORT runes? or is that against the spirit of the run? Really good video by the way - enjoyed it a lot:) Nm, The rules scrolled past too fast and I missed the 'no repairing' at all bit :)
So you think there could be builds to aimulate yhe act bosses a little bit and see how yhey do? Duriel:tanky double swing bard with cold damage Diablo: fire/lightning sorc etc
@prophetezekiel combat skills should be allowed just no offensive auras is a very differnd playstyle maybe salvation so no need in all resist items or max devensive build interesting choices But is the damage enough will see 😅
This video rivals something like 2kliksphillip's Odgrub the Basher IMHO and it has millions of views. Even though this is a difficult play through and Odgrub is abusing exploits and power fantasy, they vibe the same to me
Throw mastery is on the cards for nightmare, and tbh finding orts isnt easy on normal, versus just swapping weapons out. In nm it will be worth farming the countess though for a supply though
Frankly... this would be a more enjoyable viewing experience if you had access to your stash, even if it was a limited resource like only being able to open it once per level up. Imagine if you could could use 'level up coupons' to access a shop or hire a mercenary instead, also giving worth to the gold you pick up. Maybe it would even make picking up certain quests worth it for the rewards or area access? Makes the challenge more tactical, engaging, and perhaps faster on your end with recording as well. It would have saved hours of grinding early for identify scrolls. I know it's not what you were aiming for with this run, but maybe a 'death row inmate' style character who has to EARN the right to simply be tolerated by the other survivors of this land, to speak in their presence, to spend your gold, or even make use of a spare chest? Idk it just sounds like that'd make for another very fun video to watch. I loved this video!!
Death row inmate is a very cool idea! Maybe a rng wheel of super unique kill contracts and then shop access/stash access/repair privileges. Love this idea dude!
Dude, the stress of not being allowed in town was getting to me by the end. Just need that safe room feeling to calm back down after an act boss and never got it
you would need to magic find the full sets first. but you could try doing challenge runs of only using low level set items. especially the bad ones. since you like to challenge yourself you could just not use any other gear only those specific set items. like Sander's Folly is a melee set for necromancer anda faster cast rate wand. overall terrible. and for sets that don't have bels thats an extra challenge in inventory management.
A lot of the challenge is finding the items. Getting a 3 slot shield not an issue with a shop, finding one outside is, then also finding those runes, all for one fight.
ideas for videos • requirements -X% jewel(s) on something ridiculous • hero edit to old school Summon Raven so that there's no cap on the number of birds • Ribcracker Barbarian vs Ribcracker Paladin - who's da real Lil John? • Act 3 Merc optimization - go hard to make the Iron Wolves super deadly • Paladin cosplay as Act 2 Merc - Spear/Polearm only • Max Mana Shield with Brilliance • Holy Bolt Necromancer • Amazon with max Magic Arrow (mana refund!) • Psychic Paladin - Conversion + Telekinesis. Which monsters make the most interesting minions?
This would've been cooler if it was a real iron man run. Being able to replay/ grind sections diminishes the challenge a lot. Also, did you forget there is a cube recipe for repairing stuff?
Unfortunately a lot of that is time-based. It takes long enough without meta-grinding areas. Part of me wants to compromise but the run would take 3 times as long and the variation helps with wanting to do it. It's just a hobby after all! I think an iron man is on the cards dont worry!
If I find just one decent throwing weapon I'm super tempted to respec, as I've not done throwing before. Ive heard enough points it should be "infinite". I'll allow a respec per difficulty just to mix it up!
It's harder to follow for some viewers if I do things too quickly, so I actively avoid doing this (unless it's dropping loads of pots before ancients fight).
This would be really cool from a townsperson’s perspective. Is repairing via cube not allowed. Ral + Armor = Fully repaired armor. Ort+weapon = fully repaired weapon
awkward silence
Whoops 😂.
It's debatable since it's a quest item you can get without interactions.
This has to be the most unique challenge run of D2 that I've seen. So you think there could be builds to aimulate yhe act bosses a little bit and see how yhey do?
Duriel:tanky double swing bard with cold damage
Diablo: fire/lightning sorc etc
I wonder if there's any way to make Hell possible?
😮Do a devensive aura only paladin next 🎉😅
Yeah, like this idea dude, will look into it
@prophetezekiel combat skills should be allowed just no offensive auras is a very differnd playstyle maybe salvation so no need in all resist items or max devensive build interesting choices
But is the damage enough will see 😅
This video rivals something like 2kliksphillip's Odgrub the Basher IMHO and it has millions of views.
Even though this is a difficult play through and Odgrub is abusing exploits and power fantasy, they vibe the same to me
Thanks for this dude x
Homeless Barbarian
Just like me...
I still love you brother x
1:34:49 Stone Wood Bone Wand ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
surprised you didnt farm the countess earlier for runes. Coulda stocked up on tals/rals for the damage needs
It was just carrying them all that was the issue. Space for potions was the real challenge! If I do nightmare I will definitely farm her for a while
so ort would repair weapon
ral woudl repair armor
and if you went throw mastery you wouldnt ever run out of javs?
This was hectic
Dude, the stress of not being allowed in town was getting to me by the end. Just need that safe room feeling to calm back down after an act boss and never got it
Haha great challenge run :D Will you carry on with this through NM and Hell?
I've had a great comment that had inspired me for nightmare, so might well do. Thanks for the love brother!
Does base diablo 2 have respec potion or do i play to much median xl?
What even is this?
@prophetezekiel mod for oryginal version
I remember though don't remember why but for the longest time on one of my barbs I was using the helforge hammer.
It’s good for brand new characters because it has no requirements.
I used to save a copy of the flail of ages and use it to level characters through to act 3 without investing skill points
Hi, you should try run a melee only sorceress, no spell damage allowed besides enchant.
Those are pretty fun to play. Enchant, ice armor, teleport.
you would need to magic find the full sets first. but you could try doing challenge runs of only using low level set items. especially the bad ones. since you like to challenge yourself you could just not use any other gear only those specific set items. like Sander's Folly is a melee set for necromancer anda faster cast rate wand. overall terrible. and for sets that don't have bels thats an extra challenge in inventory management.
Why no ral ort tal shield for diablo?
A lot of the challenge is finding the items. Getting a 3 slot shield not an issue with a shop, finding one outside is, then also finding those runes, all for one fight.
ideas for videos
• requirements -X% jewel(s) on something ridiculous
• hero edit to old school Summon Raven so that there's no cap on the number of birds
• Ribcracker Barbarian vs Ribcracker Paladin - who's da real Lil John?
• Act 3 Merc optimization - go hard to make the Iron Wolves super deadly
• Paladin cosplay as Act 2 Merc - Spear/Polearm only
• Max Mana Shield with Brilliance
• Holy Bolt Necromancer
• Amazon with max Magic Arrow (mana refund!)
• Psychic Paladin - Conversion + Telekinesis.
@prophetezekiel definitely looking forward to that one! Thanks man!
I was wondering why you didn't go for a throwing build with this one, but then I realised all the ammo you would need is in town...
If I find just one decent throwing weapon I'm super tempted to respec, as I've not done throwing before. Ive heard enough points it should be "infinite". I'll allow a respec per difficulty just to mix it up!
@prophetezekiel Cool beans! Can't wait to see it 🙂
ctrl+leftclick drops items from your inventory, it triggers me hard to see that you click them out of the inventory ....
It's harder to follow for some viewers if I do things too quickly, so I actively avoid doing this (unless it's dropping loads of pots before ancients fight).
It's more cinematic ;)
@@prophetezekiel ahhhh i see, at least you know it thats enough for me :D thx for clarification
