    We have owned 2 Proust including a built to our specs Quasar. You are going to love sailing this boat. We made 6 Atlantic crossings, raised 2 children and called the boat home for almost 20 years. If I were a year under 75 and my wife was still aging, we would still be at sea on a Prout built boat. This lady will still be crossing oceans after every modern charter catamaran has been sent to the land fill.

    WOW, great job. Just as an aside, my father and mother used to build catamarans on commission. Their retirement plan was to sail the world in one they built for themselves, unfortunately that didn’t happen.

      That's so cool! We were debating trying to put a map on it, but then we decided neither of us had any drawing skills. One night I used permanent marker and just made a big jobs list on it. When we put fibreglass resin on it to protect the wood, the permanent marker ran a little so it's a bit hard to read now. We only waited overnight before putting the resin on. How did you draw the map and not have it run when you sealed it? Thanks very much for the subscription, glad you like the videos so far :)

    Depending on the inside width, centre the bed on the port or starbord side. Hopefully there will be enough room at the footing of the bed and your cupboards to get through. Makes it easier to make the bed and when you clean up. Your shelf you fitted leans to the front. Good luck. Fone to many yachts in my time..

    Hey Guys, howzitgoin, we really enjoyed your video, so much fun rebuilding a boat. Just a little question, did you read the ventilation requirements on the fridge instructions before you installed it ??? I only ask because we have the same brand but individual fridge and freezer, and it said the air flow requirements was 60cm x 10cm under and around the back of the units?? The only thing worse than not have a fridge is having one that cost a small fortune but doesn't work due to lack of heat removal. cheers Rustie.

    Hi, What is it with us Aussie girls & Canadian guys, & his cool with pink. Up there for ski fields?
    To late for these suggestions, however;
    That anchor looks to small for that size boat.
    Hard solar panels are much better producers per sq" vs flex, have them as bimini, less weight vs bimini + panels, which stay cooler = more efficient, with unrestricted ventilation under them, same height framing extended for davits.
    Cut table, add piano hinge.
    Rubberised paint on outer surface of kitchen sink makes them less noisy, thicker the better. Also acts as a insulator.
    More info on that battery (elec setup, green inverter, etc) would be good, looks like a forklift one?
    If you have to do thru-hulls down the track, rural poly fittings (all plumbing), are strong, don't corrode, block as easy, non-sacrificial.

    • @sailing.supernova
      @sailing.supernova  Рік тому

      No we actually met in Australia 😊 The anchor is a 33kgs, we followed the anchoring guide from Rocna. We got semi-flexible panels which are light weight, they really aren't that flexible, they have aluminium underneath them. We haven't figured out what we want for the permanent table, just a piece of plywood at the moment although it might stay for a while given the never ending jobs. Piano hinge could be a good idea. I think the sink came with a rubberised coat on the outside but will check in to getting more. We haven't fully set up our electrical system yet but the batteries are a one off size and 24 volts, when we get it all finalised we will make a video. We replaced all the thru-hulls with poly fittings when we had the boat out of the water, so glad to hear that's what you would suggest. Thanks for all the tips :)

    [ 49:55 ] Darcy's P95 respirator isn't sufficient for fiberglass resin fumes; he should have used 3M 2097 filters, like Yvette, instead.

    • @sailing.supernova
      @sailing.supernova  11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for looking out, Darcy has a different brand of mask but we did check the paperwork before using it and it was the correct filter. The brand of mask Darcy was using has a dust filter before the proper filter beneath it to extend the usefulness of the more expensive filters, so it does look like an improper filter, but it is not. We appreciate you taking the time to be concerned about our safety and look forward to any future advice you may have. Hope you like the rest of the videos as well :)

    Firstly, I already like this channel. What kind of catamaran is she ? The aft solar panels should be rigid not just flexible ones mounted on a rigid frame because wind that gets under will really work at them. At some future point please upgrade. You are spot on with flexible solar on your deck area with airspace underneath because they are not as exposed. Consider one or two build your own 400-500 watt small wind turbine kits too. Bon voyage and best wishes from Montana !

    • @sailing.supernova

      Thanks for the well wishes. She's a Prout Quasar 50, built in 1986. The aft solar panels are 'semi-flexible' because we heard that the flexible ones could have problems. They have an aluminium backing so they don't flap in the wind. Do you know of any build your own wind turbine kits?

    Hi, sadly your making issues , the solar vent , you've just put it down with sikaflex , you now never be able to get it up without damaging the area , the neoprene gasket provided would never leak , uv proof and totally weather proof. Your doing well .

    • @sailing.supernova
      @sailing.supernova  Рік тому

      Thanks for the advice. We were told that sikaflex wouldn't stick enough to damage the fibreglass. The person also said it would be better than screwing holes in the boat to mount the vents. Maybe we got some bad advice but I think they meant well. Let's hope we wont have to remove them for a while. Any other tips would be welcome as we are still learning and it's all pretty new to us. 😊

      Glad you love the video and colours! Thanks for the advice, we are going to look at the specs for the fridge again. Ill second that - the fridge is a heat exchanger, pull heat out to cool the inside of the box and put the heat outside the box. Adding some slotted louvers for cool air to come in behind it and hot air to exit will make it run more efficiently and draw less electricity.

    • @sailing.supernova
      @sailing.supernova  Рік тому

      Right now it's a bit tricky to answer that question because not all of it is hooked up and we are having some less than stellar performance from some of it. We are hoping that it's just a bad solar charge controller. Once it's all hooked up and sorted, we'll let you know how much we end up with in total. With all that taken into consideration, we think we're getting around 1000 watts of production. Sorry for the non-answer, but we are very new at this.
