Sandy Newman is a rock solid singer and a charismatic front man. Marmalade could have done much worse after the exit of Dean Ford! A lead singer for Marmalade for over 40 years now, they remain one of my favourite 60s/70s bands!
this band is super live act and front man Sandy Newman is in my opinion the best frontman on the 60's circuit
The lead singer Sandy Newman has been fronting Marmalade since 1974, that's 43 years .. The guy on the keys has done over 30 years , up until 2007 they performed along side Graham Knight . They have earned their Marmalade wings.... A great band live that do a great job... See them perform, then make a comment, I've seen them many times , brilliant band
Sandy Newman & Guys do a nice rendition of all the Marmalade's classic hits, but the truth is nobobody in this band had anything to do with the original Marmalade hits, either in terms of writing or performing. This current Marmalade line up is in essence a tribute band performing cover versions of the originals.
This is diabolical, my dad (graham knight) gave sandy (lead), Alan (keyboard) and glen (ex drummer) their harmonies. This band is now nothing without my dad. I think it’s brilliant that they’re keeping the name going, but the sound of the band has changed for the worse. Shame.
Ok tribute act... nothing on the real marmalade
I thought graham knight left the band in ‘71
They do a great set. What I noticed is this; chemistry is not there. Bass player and drummer are ignored. Sound, can't hear acoustic guitar, sometimes keyboard, and bass. It's weak. Vocals are so-so.
still rocking and singing as good as ever, reflections of my life is one of the best songs ever recorded
@gm4dhj the singer hasbeen with them since the mid 70s, he was the voice on falling apart at the seems.. I agree with you on many 60s bands that hardly any are the originals, Manfreds excluded of course.

This is indeed a great tribute to the original band - such accomlished musicians and singers. Must try to catch them live sometime.
In the sixties when bands like The Who, The Hollies, The Searchers, The fortunes, The Tremeloes, The Marmalade, Fleetwood Mac...(too many to list all)...lost a member, for what ever reason, they had to be replaced so that they could still play live, no session musicians or backing tapes used then, you had to perform your hits live as a band, over a period of time, as people leave the band you are left with maybe just one or just a couple of people that were in the original line up, it’s a shame but it happens. Unless a previous member owns the name or objects to it being used, bands carry on with that original name.
Fleetwood Mac are a prime example of a successful band with several line up changes over the years.
The Moody Blues carried on after Denny Laine left and again after Mike Pinder left, so have The Hollies, Marrilion, Foreigner, The Rolling Stones, Genesis, Queen and The Who, (the list goes on ) admittedly some more successful than others.
Come right up to the present day and we have bands that carry on without replacements because they were vocalist, not instrument playing members. ie, Take That, Spice Girls, Westlife and Boyzone to name a few,
Imagine the confusion if football clubs had to change the name of the club because original players aren’t on the pitch.
Can you imagine ? It’s not ENGLAND without Bobby Moore or Manchester United without George best, etc, etc etc.
The one thing that we can ALL Agree on is, that we love music and like to see it performed LIVE, replacements can change the sound of the band in some cases and it’s not always to our taste, Rest in peace all you artistes that have given us so much pleasure with your ability to write, record, sing and play.
The show must go on, as they in the business.

This hit medley is great but I'd rather hear the songs in their entirety! Superb band and Sandy Newman is a rock solid lead vocalist. Not easy to replace a singer as strong Dean Ford!

The original 1972 recording of Radancer was the heaviest thing Marmalade ever recorded and Dean Ford wanted to continue in a Hard Rock mode causing tension in the band. After a Hard Rock/ boogie album in 1974 Dean would leave for a solo career and Sandy Newman was a stellar replacement!

With a catchy commercial sounding Song Catalogue as The Marmalade, they remain a firm favourite on the live circuit!

John James Newman is a fantastic singer in his own right, but I don't feel he actually brings anything to the band musically. He obviously needed a job and his Dad obliged. Alan has been with the band almost 40 years and has been naturally funny and entertaining the whole time. JJN seems to be in competition with him now. Still a good band.
I can guarantee you John James Newman is an enormous enrichment for the band, musically. His backing vocals and his a-guitar were musical pillars doing the mix in post production. Would not have done the job so easily without anyone of the group. Getting to know the members personally, competition between the members was the last impression I have had. This band is a great live act. And all of the members are very kind and nice persons - absolutely down to earth pro musicians.
I only met Sandy and Alan back when Graham and Glen were in the band and I agree 100% about their kindness; I have no reason to disagree on that nor their musical ability.
