Reflections of my Life...1970 53 years ago....To listen to the song now in 2023....Very reflective of my life, the people I knew that are now gone, the places I have traveled, so many memories...I am so thankful for what UA-cam has available for us. I spend so much time here listening to memories...so many reflections...for a fleeting moment I am back with all those memories....Rest In Peace Dean Ford...You are sadly missed...

I later married and the song still haunted me. Last week I buried my wife And the song continues to haunt me. The guitar solo on the single was done by backmasking, i.e. recording it one way and then playing the tape backwards. Dean Ford of Scottish band Marmalade dies aged 72by Paul Cashmere on January 2, 2019in NewsDean Ford, the singer and songwriter for Scotland’s Marmalade, has died aged 72.Dean’s daughter Tracey McAleese-Gorman confirmed the news of her father’s passing on Facebook saying “I am so sad to share that my dear Dad passed away last night. He was an amazing man, a gentle soul, extremely talented musician and a great Father and Pop Pop to his only grandchild Connor”.Dean Ford was a member of Marmalade from 1966 to 1974. He co-wrote Marmalade’s biggest international hit ‘Reflections of My Life’ under his real name Thomas McAleese with Junior Campbell. It sold 2 million copies around the world. In 1998 BMI recognised the song’s success with a Special Citation of Achievement Award.

I am nearly the same age, and I couldn't agree more. The song is timeless, epic, and hasn't lost any of the glory of the original time. I was just a kid growing up in a very middle class neighborhood in Erie, PA when this song came out. I was not yet a teenager but our days were simple: riding bikes, listening to AM radio and playing baseball 2X a day: the 9:00 am game, home to rest and then the 2:00 pm game. Most of the kids in the neighborhood had dads who fought in WW2; My father was in the Battle of the Bulge and my uncle died several years later from severe wounds suffered at Omaha Beach. It is truly amazing that "The Greatest Generation members " were so abundant in our neighborhood but never talked about their heroics." I know that one of the soldiers was on the 1st landing craft at Normandy and 90% of his fellow soldiers were killed in seconds." This song became so relevant to me years later after becoming a physician; it was so hard to hold back the tears when I treated a Vietnam veteran because I always remembered this song as the "song that represented the Vietnam War era." I would show a brave face in the exam room yet go to a janitor's closet minutes later to cry my eyes out." I realized that if I had been born several years earlier, I would have been a Vietnam Veteran. These soldiers are the best and I have always given my best to treat our veterans. My patients have been veterans from WW2 to Afghanistan and Iraq. Please, always remember them in your prayers!!

15 dislikes is 15 heartless and stupid people! They do a remarkable job capturing the spirit of this song in concert and Junior Campbell nails the guitar solo! Very hard to do as on the record half the solo is backwards tapes. Dean Ford is an astonishingly good vocalist his real name is Thomas MacAleese and Junior is William Campbell. They wrote this song for a lot of reasons most of them centered around Vietnam and the start of the tragic war in Northern Ireland. War is not a necessary evil it's a plague that has swept over the earth since the beginning of mankind. We may never learn to end the vicious cycle, but we have songs like "Reflections Of My Life" from people who care like The Marmalade!

I was about 13 at the time and immediately thought about Vietnam when I heard that line. I didn't know at the time if I would end up there or not. As far as those 15 dislikes I guess they're entitled to their opinion and we're entitled to tell them they're stupid and heartless.

Just added you to my friends, mate! Campbell got his sound that way- wow! I never got into weird alternate tunings and you make me think I should have. I wish that I had stuck with more melodic playing that later years where it all became about playing so fast that it was incongruous sounding. Marmalade is special, but no Dean Ford means not real it means diluted Marmalade! I don't mind those songs, but with Dean and Campbell gone and Sandy Newman I was disappointed by their material.

    I'm changing
    I'm changing everything
    Everything around me
    The world is
    A bad place
    A bad place
    A terrible place to live
Oh, but I don't want to die
    Oh, my sorrows
    Sad tomorrows
Take me back to my own home
Oh, my crying (Oh, my crying)
    Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back to my own home
    Oh, my sorrows
    Sad tomorrows
Take me back to my own home
