It's an old video and I don't know if you read this, but have you ever tested spray painted gear for its IR abilities? I think it would be worth it to make a video on this. A lot of people buy the old ACU/UCP uniforms and gear and dye and paint it. It's not so bad if you use it for airsoft or outdoor activities, but if used in combat this could turn into a bad situation.
Don't stop or start your stream of paint on the object you are painting, that will cause a large build up of paint, and runs at the point where you start and stop your spray stream. Start spraying off the edges of the object, then move across the entire object and stop the spray stream once you are clear of the object. You will get a more even professional look
Hold back 18" what do you mean run? Wow put it on dry. And all that taping, waste of time, clean aim points and other features with cotton-swab and brake clean. And tape the inside of the muzzle? You got to be shitting me. Paint it all and don't look back, never had a malfunction M14, 1911 or bolt gun. YMMV
Instead of using stencils, I find local vegetation works just as well if not better. Start with a green/brown base layer (or combination) and cover your gear in leaves, twigs and other debris. Then go over the whole thing again with tan and you'll have vegetative silhouettes on your gear.

Hey Brett big fan of the channel. If I can offer a painter's tip...on the rifle you can make the paint last indefinitely if before you spray the paint, wipe down all of the metal with alcohol. Denatured alcohol is recommended but isopropyl also works. After, krylon makes an ultra matte, enamel based clear. Spray a couple coats over the camo to take away the gritty feeling from the pigment and seal for a long lasting finish. For the web gear, if you use silicone spray like kiwi camp dry before you spray paint, and also seal with a light coating of the same clear coat it won't soak the paint up and your gear will be more water resistant than before. Also to save labor, it's quicker to use the 2" roll of masking tape and just tear out random patterns and stick directly to the project. Those are the procedures I use for the same tasks.
Now folks remember that you use colors according to your field of operations. You could look in the environment around you to help. Maybe and oak leaf or pine needles. To spray paint over. To break up the basic look and outline of the rifle to help it to blend in or be less noticeable. Brent you did a fantastic job.
Good job on the rifle!!! I just did camo on red and purple camelback backpacks. Didn't wanna look like Prince running around in the woods with the CSM. The Bride found some fabric spray paint.. Ya, what??? Covered really well. Had no clue. Did random sprays and finished off with a small leafy branch. Thank you for all your efforts. Love the channel.
Semper Fi, Brother. I remember in boot camp when the recruits would try to put perfect camo patterns on their face. The Heavy would freak out and make them smear it into a green blob mess. Ok, I confess...I was that recruit. Great video. Loved your M1a video too. Keep it up.
I painted my LBE this weekend and was surprised how much light color paint was required break up the outline. All of those darker colors like forest green, black and brown look great up close but as you back up they become one dark blob.
I finally got around painting my DPMS AR. I painted a tan underlay with light green and OD over spray and some sparing brown spots to break up some of the high points. I used a torn piece of ACE hardware bag to get some jagged fades. When I was finished I painted the shiny black GI issue sling for a great result. Then I went and painted some shorts I had made from some UCP pants. I really liked the effect of the overspray on that useless UCP pattern!
This was very helpful, when my gear is squared away and tested so I'm sure of it's final form, the last step is to paint it. Thanks for the info as always
I like your videos. I learned to spray in passes over your work starting to spray before the pass goes over the work and not to stop spraying until you are no longer over your work. This technique reduces runs and drips, if that's a concern. Thank you for your service and time.
Nicely done. I started using spray-through stencils about ten years ago on an AK, starting with tan as well, and it suits the desert just fine. I hung the AK with matching mag in a bush and could not see it from 20 feet away. I've watched many videos where sponges are used to dab spray paint on - not bad, some look really good. But the stick on shapes never grabbed me - looks okay but lots of work. I also think the sharp edges are too sharp. Spraying through cutouts you can blur edges. I also found that spraying dark brown from a distance tones down bright tan spots by 'dusting' small droplets and blending edges.
I like Od, grey and brown. I tiger stripe all my hunting gear like my treestand with it. The grey gives it a shadow effect. It looks sort of like ATACS camo when im through and its effective. Im going to do my AR like that eventually.
Good final camo result. I add a dull matte coat at the end to cut down glinting or glare. I think it might slightly help with that, and adds life to paint job.
It's all personal preference but I found that, with Krylon camo paint, the dull flat matte renders the camo paint even flatter and duller, plus it evens out the overall paint job, since you have layers of paint sitting on paint. I have not tested the clear dull matte with Rustoleum however.
@@mannox775 its great option, I usually ceracote them and then you can spray over the base coat with whatever color you want. However, not everyone can afford cerakote so this is a viable option. And who cares? There meant to be used, and airsoft is already expensive so rattle can it with pride!
I'm back...well..I did it...painted my firearm and it turn out super good! A friend of mine Son who just got out of the Marines 3 weeks prior even complimented it. Thanks bud.
So I thought Id give it a go myself, I used my pellet gun first. Instead of a synthetic mesh I used sheets of burlap to create the grid like pattern. I would highly recommend using burlap, it came out very organic and natural looking, created a sort of distortion at any range longer the 20'. I wish I could post a pic here.
I treat all my leather and cloth with bees wax. I buy it in cubes for a few bucks and hit it with a heat gun and apply it to the material. It gives it a nice feel on your skin, a level of water resistance and I’ve noticed that all the clinger burs and thorns are less likely to stick to it.
That is actually awesome that looks great thank you for the ideas and is thinking outside the box a little bit use in different things to use as your camo design

Hey Brent0331! Great job on the videos! Too many on here don't take the combat arts seriously enough and you sure ain't that guy! Keep 'em coming. Thank you for your service...Semper Fi!
To support Brent; I too painted my AR about 2 years ago using the same technique and it only has some minor wear as Brent said. My AR paint job turned out looking like ATACS AU. That was definitely luck. Not my intention.
great job Brent, I watched a bunch of videos and still went back to watch yours a couple more times! Thanks for the tips brother, keep up the great videos! !
I don't have a sniper veil, but I've used "dollar store" laundry bags to obtain that desired texture. I have also used shapes cut out of Frog Tape (doesn't damage previous colors, and doesn't allow "bleeding"). The sky is the limit. I say, use whatever works for you. There's really no wrong way to go, unless it turns out like a train wreck.
Nice job, I personally like to use foliage from around the house after my base coat. Makes for a nice breakup in color and adds character. And most importantly, it looks cool.
THANKS MAN! I've seen a few of these vids and wasn't geeked over the finished product but this one I like. Figures it would be a 31 brother! (I'm an old 0331 WPNS 3/6 and my grandson is currently a 31 at MCAGCC 29 Palms) Semper Fi
I found that once you put down the base coat color ,you let that dry. grab some foliage whether it be a stem of a fern or whether any other kind of you know detailed foliage of your area just hold it up to the random areas and paint over the stem and leaves in different spots until it gets saturated and throw it away and then use a different branch of a different plant that way you have the native plants and foliage in the camouflage the colors you can mix them up
I like your way of painting the best out of all the ones I've seen on UT. I see you are in the same type of country & terrain that I am (over here in East Texas). Thanks for your video.
Thanks man. I totally overlooked that your Ergo grip wasn't painted and that your adjustment knobs were. Probably won't even mess with the pistol grip when I do this. Thanks for the help Brent!
Man I've watched 10+ hours of ar paint jobs. Found one other person with a solid technique. So I'll be running off ur ideas this coming Monday. Got a new ar arriving going to make it look like Florida pine land. Watched ur video couple times and devised my own how to. Long as breaks up the firearm and fits my surrounding I'll be happy. Keep up the vids. Me and my daughter have contests on who can find u in ur camo effective vids. She says its unfair cause I've had training lmao.
I absolutely love your videos Brent0331! My airsoft team uses the German Flecktarn Camouflage pattern as our standard camo, so your video on German Flecktarn Camo effectiveness is a great way to show the recruits why we've chosen this camo! I wish your channel the most success in the world! Samuel Twigg
I wished I could share my paint job on this page...it turn out so well. Thank to your video because before I never knew you could paint your rifle like this.
If you haven't already, you should do a video about room clearing, slicing the pie, etc. It's cool watching you guys dissect that kill house, it'd be sweet if you explained how you do it.
Hey Brent, commenting on an ancient video I know, but I was thinking paint markers might work well for painting patterns onto fabric and gear, about to paint some gear so watching all your vids again
Nice paint job. Can you do a olive drab base on another rifle? You should consider a cammo weapon series, just like your cammo uniform series against different backdrops. Semper Fi brother.

Outstanding video..will definitely do my AR this way!!! My only regret is that I didn't find this video for 6 years!!!
(I'm an old 0331 WPNS 3/6 and my grandson is currently a 31 at MCAGCC 29 Palms)
Semper Fi
Semper Fi my brother.
Nice paint job. You can also use slotted leaf guards like you get at your local home center
Very nice pattern, and it's also very nicely done !
Appreciate it.
Thanks for the taking the time to share this info and video...great job!
Smell N Roses Thanks, glad you liked it.
The federal Q in the background makes me happy.
This looks effective! I like the use of the stencil paper - it looks like you traced some shapes from an ERDL pattern. Good idea!
im gonna have to try this! nice to see how well the paint held up to wear. once again, great video!
I found that once you put down the base coat color ,you let that dry. grab some foliage whether it be a stem of a fern or whether any other kind of you know detailed foliage of your area just hold it up to the random areas and paint over the stem and leaves in different spots until it gets saturated and throw it away and then use a different branch of a different plant that way you have the native plants and foliage in the camouflage the colors you can mix them up
I like using the net - very cool!!
Yup, it does a good job.
the issued laundry bags work real good for grid painting, really good diamond type grid.
Love the vid I used one of my old mesh laundry bags from the army to get the desired pattern the vids are amazing keep it up
Great demo, thanks' for the simple and easy to understand video.
+Nitrum T Thanks, glad it helped.
Excellent job..your tracking correctly and on target...
If Bob Ross was a Marine...
good stuff bro. i like that you dont make it overly complicated.
Thanks brother.
I like your way of painting the best out of all the ones I've seen on UT. I see you are in the same type of country & terrain that I am (over here in East Texas). Thanks for your video.
Nice skin! How many cases did you unbox to get it?
Thanks man. I totally overlooked that your Ergo grip wasn't painted and that your adjustment knobs were. Probably won't even mess with the pistol grip when I do this. Thanks for the help Brent!
No problem.
Aaron Peet Appreciate it man. Glad I could help.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing brother!
Answered all my questions about upper painting, i.e. where to mask off. Thanks.
Glad I could help.
A+ So many people forget what the purpose of this project is, to camouflage the weapon, remove the black. Again, A+ video, demo.
+Joshua Jerew Thanks brother.
Samuel Twigg Thanks man.

That shorty rocks
+Michael Stone Thanks brother.

I used your method and it turned out well! thanks for the vid.
Outstanding, I'm glad it worked out well for you.
It looks cool, nice painting.
Thanks
Your paint job on your rifle is AWESOME!! If you ever come to MT i would pay you to paint mine.. thumbs up bro!!
Thanks man, no need to pay me. DIY that's what I made the video for.
I wished I could share my paint job on this page...it turn out so well. Thank to your video because before I never knew you could paint your rifle like this.
Good deal brother, glad to hear.
Looks good, I used wire mesh with diamond grid pattern one time. It came out pretty decent I think.
Wow outstanding job.
Tyson Palmour Thanks
Great video Devil Dog! I just shared it on "Like Minded People".
Semper Fi
Thanks brother, S/F!
Such a masterpiece 🇺🇸
Looks good going too paint my paintball gun it is tan now and sticks out .
