It's exciting to hear about the partial opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum. Egypt's rich history deserves a world-class showcase. Now is the perfect time for Germany to return the Nofretete bust, a priceless artifact that rightfully belongs to its homeland.
I had a mini celebrity moment a few weeks back in Aswan. Saw you leading a group I was going to say hello and thank you for the Egypt tips but you looked way to busy. Just got back from there. Unfortunately the war in Gaza has kept tourists away but the low crowds at sites increased the travel experience. Thanks again for the helpful videos. P.s. the museum was closed when we where there.

My clients loved having the gift shop in the GEM because it’s got quality souvenirs, reasonable prices, and no hassle! When the rest of the museum opens and all the galleries are open, it’ll balance out the shopping that is currently the most complete part of the museum.
Wow! Everything looks so modern - almost like a big mall in a modern office complex! Very clean architectural lines with nothing to detract from the artifacts. I think I like it! Glad to finally see the GEM from the inside. I've sen the outside featured often in archaeology programs on TV for years. Glad to know it's finally opening. What will happen to the old museum in Cairo?
I really like it too! The old museum will stay open and will feature tons of important artifacts, like the Narmer Palette, and the Tanis objects, plus lots of masterwork pieces of Egyptian statuary.
@EgyptAdventuresTravel - had such high expectations for this possibly exquisite museum: it's basically a lobby at any first Tier American casino. I've been to Egypt twice- this is an utter failure.
Impressed at those stairs. They invoke Isu architechture from the Assassin's Creed video game framchise yet their hue also invokes ancient Egypt. I saw also those beautiful blue alabaster(?) cats in the Gems gift shop. I wanted to heft them in my hands to test their weight. I wonder if they are available online. Again, here's impressed. 🧿

I am sure it has some great elements. But I really liked the old one - dusty and fusty as it was, it had great atmosphere because it was not tricked up by too much tech. I remember the last tour group I took there (2005) I had almost unbelievable luck as miraculously the Tut galleries were almost empty of people. That never happens!
We could not show thousands of items in the old one. The old museum will remain btw. Each museum will have a king or more as its focus. The GEM’s focus is king Tut among some other kings and queen.
We aren't sure when it will fully open, unfortunately :( It's been delayed several times and for years and years, so I'm done predicting when it will open. I will believe it when it happens! Hoping it's soon!
Do you know much percentage of the entire museum is open? I will be there in the beginning of march and I doubt the full opening will happen before then but I want to know if theres enough sections in the museum that are open (lesss than half, half, more than half, or close to fully open) to see if its worth it to go now or leave it for later. Great video by the way, thank you for all the info!!
I'd estimate it's less than 5%. None of the galleries are open, just the Grand Staircase, and then five objects on display in the Great Hall. That's it. I would focus on the original Egyptian Museum (Old Museum) in Tahrir Square, and also the NMEC, and then if you have more time, add in the GEM.
Hello Gus, Thank you. We are heading there in Early February. Is it worth going to the GEM. It doesnt seem to have much open. Maybe 2 hours to see and read most sculptures. I just dont know whether its better to go to the older museums instead. Thanks for your thoughts.
Hey Daniel, I recommend the GEM if you have 3-4 days in Cairo, but with just one or two days, to me it’s not worth it. The Egyptian Museum Cairo (old museum) Tahrir Square is still the best museum to visit in terms of what’s on display. And the NMEC is great too for the mummies.
I guess if you have more time in Cairo and in the Giza plateau. If you plan to spend time visiting the pyramids, surrounding area, camel ride, interior of pyramids etc, it would distract from going to other areas, I would think. So many ppl I talk to have gone to Egypt but didn’t have time to visit Upper Egypt. I encourage doing so. The original museum at Tahrir square is rich in artifacts and worth spending the time. Egyptian food is delicious. I believe that, fast food place has a bit “airport “ feel, they could have done a little better honoring the culture of Egypt as to food. You seem very knowledgeable and I would certainly have you as tour guide if I hadn’t spent time there.
Yes, I am putting the GEM on people's itineraries only if they have a big interest in going (and they watched my UA-cam video to know what to expect inside) and if they have lots of time in Cairo so as to not miss other attractions there. Thank you!
I haven't made it out there yet, but it's on the agenda for a future video! I have had a few clients use it so far and everyone has had a good experience. As far as I know, I don't think anyone from LHR flies there yet, but Whizz Air and EasyJet both fly from LTN to SPX.
TONS. If you are really interested in ancient Egypt, I recommend visiting the Tahrir Square (original) Egyptian Museum. If the GEM is not fully open by the time of your trip, and you have limited time, definitely go for the original museum over the GEM.
Do you think we will be able to take photos and videos in Tutankhamun section? When I visited Egyptian museum in Cairo 10 yeas ago I could not take any photos.
Photos and videos are not allowed in the Tut gallery, but videos and photos are allowed of the Tut objects that are outside the gallery (like the throne).
I was in the old dirty museum downtown. Drove by the new one in 2019 right after a terror attack. Egypt was fascinating, but I never felt safe. Never going back.
I’m sorry you felt that way-I’ve always felt safe here, and so have all the guests on tours with me, but I’ve heard from a few people who haven’t traveled with me that they didn’t feel safe.
Actually I am not sure it's worth visiting right now as the most exhibition rooms are closed and not allowed to visit. You can only see the huge concrete and metal hangar with some shops and may be video inside... Very strange excitement IMHO.
Pardon my excitement because I have been waiting for more parts of the museum to open for YEARS 😂😂. But yes, for most travelers, it’s still not worth a visit if they are only in Cairo 2-3 days. The original Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square is still the better option by far for the most objects on display.
Because it’s still not officially opened yet, the Egyptian government is preparing for a huge opening ceremony by the end of this year (hopefully) only then all rooms will be opened for everyone to visit
@@Ooomnia Actually, I don't understand why so much secrecy about the openning date, so may be the best choice would be a huge presidential innaguration there, though it seems so symbolic...
I showed the people mover in the video for folks using wheelchairs and for folks who are not in wheelchair but are unable to do stairs, which will allow everyone to access each of the four main sections. People unable to do stairs will not be able to walk up close to every single statue, but will be able to learn about each thematic section and see all statues in that group, some of them close up, and others further away.
@@antonioalvigi6730 you definitely need to buy tickets to the Tutankhamen immersive experience in advance. If you want to go to that, or you can just buy tickets to the normal museum. Those you can also buy at the museum itself.
Unfortunately, no one knows for sure (lots of excuses, but after each excuse is eliminated, another one pops up 🙃). When I was there I was peeking into other galleries through the windows off of the Grand Staircase, and it still looks like there’s a long way to go 🤷🏻♂️.
The 2020 Pandemic interrupted supply lines, exacerbated production shortages, depleted skilled labour pools, and led to supply-demand inflation spikes all over the world. Egypt’s most ambitious engineering project since the Suez Canal has been no exception.
@@noelleggett5368 I’ve also heard that the metro construction has delayed opening, the conflict now in Gaza, and a few other things. Whatever the delay’s cause, I’m just hoping it opens soon!
@@EgyptAdventuresTravelThe reason for the delay is the engineering work for the subway station in front of the museum, as well as the development of the ring road that connects Giza to Greater Cairo. The subway station is working on it with full force. All Egyptian companies are working to finish the line. Soon, perhaps the beginning of next year also, the war in Gaza will delay the opening. How does Egypt celebrate and Israel kills children and women in Gaza? Welcome to Egypt.
From what is depicted here, it seems to be more like an American middle-level shopping mall plus some Disney touches. I look forward to seeing the finished product when the great artifacts are in place. Thank you for this nice & enjoyable video.
My pleasure! Yes, once it's fully open hopefully all of the exhibits and the tens of thousands or artifacts on display will balance out the retail experiences.
You can do both, but I recommend buying them in advance online so you don't need to worry about doing it at the museum, especially if you want to purchase the tickets including the Tutankhamun Immersive Experience, so you can select the time that works best for you (before the tickets for that particular time slot get sold out).
What is the deal with the places not accepting cash now? What If I come from a country that does not give bank accounts to people without work permits etc...
The country is trying to get as much foreign currency as possible, and so they are using credit-cards only at sites so that they can obtain foreign currency electronically. I'm sorry to hear that this will make your visit more difficult! You can always ask a tour company if they will allow you to buy tickets directly from them and pay cash, but this will become more and more difficult as paper tickets are phased out.
I feel like the Rosetta Stone and the Nefertiti bust are the top priorities for things to come back. Haven't heard a movement yet regarding the obelisk.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel actually I don't know much about it but I heard about this museum also I saw many videos of pyramid, it seems like Egyptian government don't take care Payramid,
Maybe the visuals are a teaching method for very young children and people with learning disabilities as people who have learning disabilities have problems reading .
This exhibit is a very small amount of what will be on display, as none of the museum galleries are open yet. Once everything is fully open, I’ll do another video, so that my viewers can decide if visiting the GEM is worth it to them or not. And if not, there are plenty of other amazing antiquities to see in Egypt.
The Middle Kingdom statues I was referring to were for Senusret (the large ones at the start of the stairs) and yes, totally right, Hatshepsut and Akhenaten are New Kingdom-sorry if the wording in the video was confusing. The first section features statues from a mix of time periods, including Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom.
Fixed prices? Wow. I never got to Egypt when I worked in the ME but now I’m glad. The horror stories about the museum - although it would have been nice to see the old one - like being extorted for more money to get in to see Tut, turned me off. This looks beautiful. But fixed prices surprises me. I LOATHED every second of every negotiation for 9 years overseas, including the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, and souks in Saudi/Bahrain. Just pick a price and stop torturing me/wasting my time! 😅
Ticket prices are now 1000 EGP for entry (it’s 1200 EGP including the Tut show, which I don’t recommend unless for families with kids ages 4-12). I agree it’s a lot, but I think they’re trying to set ticket prices at a rate where with all the currency issues and devaluations they won’t have to keep raising them. Wait until the full opening and then grab your tickets to see everything 💪🏼
looks like a mall you see everyday it takes away all the magic from the artifacts and the feel of it being ancient with all these lights and modern architecture I prefer the old museum way more humble and no fancy stuff makes you appreciate the stuff in it. very poor choice of architecture for the GEM
That’s an argument I hear a lot-most of the objects on display aren’t from graves though, but rather from temples. The objects from burials though are raising some controversy, especially the displayed human remains. I’ll be interested to see in the future if museums do something differently with these objects and human remains. Unfortunately, many, many burial sites were already plundered in antiquity, so a lot of objects on display in museums are from graves that were already desecrated in antiquity.
Statues on stairs? What were they thinking about? This will cause chaos. Everyone will be stopping to look and take pictures, and then they will step backwards for a better shot - and go tumbling down the stairs. Especially the rolly-polly Americans, who will roll to the bottom, taking another 50 tourists with them. “Hey Wilbur, this ain’t a bowling alley….!!” R
0:37 I do not understand anything about the monuments or how to display them, but first of all it is stupid to place statues on stairs. First, it is unsafe when moving them. Second, the public will stand on the stairs in a strange way, which will lead to the person being unbalanced. A very, very bad design.
I think once the thousands of other artifacts and all the other galleries actually open, this area of the museum will be just a small part of the collection, so any of those issues will be mitigated. But I’ve heard a few other people share the same thing. I was just at the museum a few days ago, and the layout didn’t seem to be disruptive and everyone seemed to enjoy experiencing the monuments up close.
Egypt is short on foreign currency in cash, so they are only accepting credit cards now, in order to increase reserves of foreign currency. I wish that cash were still an option, but I’m glad that tourists can now buy tickets in advance, online.
I guess I’m obsessed with the shops because for so long, gift shops in Egypt have been focused on made-in-China trinkets, and we finally are seeing Egyptian artisans and local design collectives (like Cairopolitan) take center stage, which I love! At this point, this video is an accurate representation of what is currently on display at the GEM. There is no tour aside from what you see in the video, because at this point, a very limited amount of areas are open. Looking forward to doing a longer video more focused on the exhibits, once more areas are opened up. Thank you for watching and for commenting 😊
The museum hasn’t fully opened yet, and I’ve already visited several times, so I knew what I was getting into-I wanted to show my viewers what to expect if they decide to visit the GEM. Think of this video as an “unboxing” so you can know what you’re paying for, before you decide to pay or not 😎. For most people, the GEM still isn’t worth the visit. Hoping for the full opening soon!
I pay the 1200 EGP so that all my viewers can see what to expect and decide if they want to pay the entry fee or not. Either way, if you’re coming to Egypt or are in Egypt now, I wish you a great time here 👍🏼❤️.
@@garrywallace1007 definitely there will be tons to see besides shops, but I will say that around half of my clients coming to Egypt want to shop, and the options at the GEM are amazing because of the quality of what they have, in combination with no hassle and no need to bargain (and the fixed prices are super reasonable). However, I’m most looking forward to the full opening, so everyone can have what they want: a ton of history, some shopping, food, coffee, a kid’s center, etc. If only the opening were happening tomorrow 😂

It's a super cool building.
Beautiful, thank u
My pleasure!
Thank you very much for the update.
Our pleasure!
Just wonder the GEM is fully open now? Or still not yet!
Not yet, unfortunately 😓
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel Thank you
Thanks alot for the review 💗 from Egyptian
My pleasure!
Have you reviewed the new airport near the museum? Do they have flights from London Heathrow?
I haven't made it out there yet, but it's on the agenda for a future video! I have had a few clients use it so far and everyone has had a good experience. As far as I know, I don't think anyone from LHR flies there yet, but Whizz Air and EasyJet both fly from LTN to SPX.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel thanks man, looking forward to your review of the airport and more reviews in general!
@@anUntouchable thanks! It’ll be a while but I promise it’ll be here 👍🏼
How much content is still housed at the old museum in Cairo? I am going this year and wonder if it will be necessary to visit both.
It takes the Egyptians ages to get this museum open.
Right?! I am hoping it's soon!
Thank you for this

My pleasure 😊
Excellent news!⚘️⚘️⚘️
It was such good news! Little by little, the museum is opening.
Cool news! Thanks so much!
My pleasure! I was so excited to *finally* get to go up the staircase and take a video, after staring it from far away for the past several months!
All I can think about is the stairs full of people and someone falling 😳 trying to get close etc. Hope to make is back someday.@@EgyptAdventuresTravel
Thank you so much for the info Gus..
My pleasure!
I went there today it was amazing
Glad you got to visit!
welcome to Egypt❤
شكراً يا صديقي
I will be in egypt in november aswell. I will visit this museum.
If I see you I will say hi hahaha
Yes, please say hi! 😅
@@Ooomnia I’m hoping it’s soon!
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel yes most Egyptian officials confirmed its at the end of 2023!!
@@Ooomnia Actually, I don't understand why so much secrecy about the openning date, so may be the best choice would be a huge presidential innaguration there, though it seems so symbolic...
Woooooow ❤
I was super excited for another part of the GEM to be open! Now, just waiting for the full opening!
The nefrtary shop looks awesome idea
I love Nefertari, and am glad they have a branch in the GEM!
Can we haggle over the alabaster anyway?
Nope-fixed prices only. It’s one of the few places in Egypt like that 😂
What about disabled access on the staircase ?
I showed the people mover in the video for folks using wheelchairs and for folks who are not in wheelchair but are unable to do stairs, which will allow everyone to access each of the four main sections. People unable to do stairs will not be able to walk up close to every single statue, but will be able to learn about each thematic section and see all statues in that group, some of them close up, and others further away.
Is it possible to visit this week?
Yep! I recommend buying the tickets in advance, online-check the video description for more info.
@@EgyptAdventuresTraveldo you mean to buy tickets for the Tutankhamun Immersive Experience or a different ticket?
@@antonioalvigi6730 you definitely need to buy tickets to the Tutankhamen immersive experience in advance. If you want to go to that, or you can just buy tickets to the normal museum. Those you can also buy at the museum itself.
We are all waiting for The Grand Egyptian Museum to open to the public. What is the delay about!?!
I want to see the pyramid giza explore the tunnel and lot more like archeology research Park..
I hope you’re able to visit Egypt soon to do some of those things 💪🏼
Guys, we Egyptians are trying to do our best to show our civilization.
We are all excited for the museum to open!
Great video...hey, would you do a video at the Odeon Palace rooftop bar? Downtown Cairo... 6, Dr Abdel Hamid Said Street.
I haven’t been to that bar in ages! I hope to go there sometime during my next trip.
At 04:55 these are Ptolemaic king and queen, probably Ptolemy II and his wife Arsinoe.
Thank you!
Danke!!!!😗✌❤
You're welcome :)
I feel like they just need to open it now😂 I was sure it would be opened by this past Nov. But nope!
I’ve given up hope on a specific date, but hopefully they’ll continue opening it up section by section 👍🏼
Like an airport. Nice.
I’ve heard that feedback a bunch. Hopefully it’ll feel differently when it’s fully open 🙏🏻
There is nothing American about the design
Where do you buy the tickets, online or in person at the musseum?
You can always ask a tour company if they will allow you to buy tickets directly from them and pay cash, but this will become more and more difficult as paper tickets are phased out.
just ask someone to buy a ticket for you. no big deal.
@@dilach41 I’ve also seen people do this, and if someone is willing, this is a good strategy.
Sad: it looks like a first Tier American Hotel or Casino Lobby- i Think I like the Old Museum Now More Than Ever. ☄️
I still love the old museum! ❤️
It will be the ultimate showdown when the Egyptian government demand France return the obeliskt in the Place de la Concorde.
I feel like the Rosetta Stone and the Nefertiti bust are the top priorities for things to come back. Haven't heard a movement yet regarding the obelisk.

One day i’ll do the rocky balboa up them steps to the top.
😂😂😂
As a retired Safety Manager, my first impression is there will be falls down those stairs.
Hopefully not! Or hopefully those with balance challenges can take the people mover 👍🏼

There are moving escalators too btw
@@cubanbachThe GEM is very organized and there are trained personnel all over that keep ppl in line.

??? Why would anyone EVER put museum exhibits on a stairway??? So sad. It look's like the museum is built as a high-end giftshop!!
This is a great video!! Thank you ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Akhenaten and Hatshepsut were New Kingdom, not Middle Kingdom. Bad way to start an advertisement for exploring Egypt.
It's one of the best things about the Museum's gift shop!
There is nothing as such and if any one tries anything refuse and even inform the police.
It looks like a shopping mall
I’m looking forward to the galleries being open, to show what those look like. Currently about 10% of the museum is open.
id like to do a partnership with you ;)
Shoot me an email and let’s chat 👍🏼
0:35 So i can get in touch with how I can help with your Egypt adventures. This guy reminds me of George Santos. Can't quite put my finger on it.
George Santos 🫠
what's wrong with them? they want 1200 EGP per person (almost 40 bucks!!!!) just to enter one exhibition in an unfinished museum? What a joke ...
I've been hearing that from several viewers -- thanks for sharing.
Wow i wish egyptians had kept their world views and religion and society.
It is interesting to think about how the ancient Egyptian religion, culture, etc. would look like today!
"people mover"?? is that what it's called...WOW 🤣
That’s what I called it-not its official name 🙃.
Another name for it could be “incline moving walkway”?
Should just be called the Grave roober place! How old does a burial have to be before you can plunder it?
“Hey Wilbur, this ain’t a bowling alley….!!”
R
I’m one of those “roly poly” Americans 🫠😂

I do not understand anything about the monuments or how to display them, but first of all it is stupid to place statues on stairs.
Why not accept cash all places
Egypt is short on foreign currency in cash, so they are only accepting credit cards now, in order to increase reserves of foreign currency. I wish that cash were still an option, but I’m glad that tourists can now buy tickets in advance, online.
Thanks lots always sharing wonderful information about Egypt love you it’s really helpful all your videos information
why obsessed with the shops? there is no tour ..its an add click bait
So you pay 1200 ejypt pounds to go to a shopping mall? I was looking forward to seeing the museum but it seems like another Egyptian scam.
Looks a bit tacky with all the retail - disappointing so far
Hopefully the galleries will wow you when those finally open 👍🏼
Agreed.. I have no interest in shops or restaurants when visiting somewhere like this...
@@EgyptAdventuresTraveli have heard that in the full opening there will be 100 ancient egyptian artifacts shown!🎉
@@FinanceWageSlave there are going to be a ton-Tutankhamun’s exhibit alone will have 5,000 objects 😱
I'm no traveller, but it doesn't evoke ancient Egypt to me, and that's sad.
