- Hello everyone and welcome back to Villaflores in Urbek City Builder! I’ve decided to make this a short series in response to your overwhelmingly positive response to the first video on Urbek - THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT!
The city is struggling with industrial production AND power and it’s time to solve the issues so that our city can continue to evolve and improve. We’re going to build a few coal mines, coal power plants, and level up our iron industry by building a steal works and higher capacity mining operations. Along the way, we’ll continue to sprawl the city along the river and learn a few tricks about industry-specific houses along the way. Enjoy!
** About Urbek **
Have you been looking for a new city builder? You might want to give Urbek a try! Urbek is kind of like a mashup of Simcity and Timberborn, with some pixel art graphical flair borrowed from Minecraft... and I love it! It's truly unlike any other city builder that I've played... and that's a good thing!

Coal miner/iron miners houses will produce like 90% of those resources and you should build them as densely around your industry as possible.
It's amazing to see that it doesn't click that he can build the coal workers houses (even though he has some), even after making the iron worker houses. Saw the same thing in other youtubers vids, I guess it's an easy step to miss from the the tutorial.
yup
@@MoDlegion it definitely took me a little while to figure it out myself. Luckily it’s not on film.
It may feel kinda 'gross' to pack houses around the mines and such, but it's how the game works, and it makes sense if you follow the themes about labor and material goods the game is walking you through
Everyone making urbek videos makes me want to pull my hair out for this. I hope Phil figured it out
My tip here is that farm fields are incredibly inefficient for food production and should only be used to meet the requirements of other agriculture buildings. For example, a 5x3 grid of fields generates 189 food at a cost of 75 unskilled labor (12.6 food at a cost of 5 unskilled labor each)... But you can fit 8 tenant farms (50 food production and 50 food storage each) in that grid to produce 488.2 food and have 400 food storage in the same space at a cost of only 35 unskilled labor.
yep by the time orchard was unlocked its should be the main source of food.
My trick has been overlapping farms, silos and sheds, then sprinkling tenants around. I'm too far left to let my city have landlords haha. The fun I've had, is to keep the farm layout organic looking and relatively efficient. I don't want giant grids of farmland. Even if it's the e most efficient.
It won't be long before somebody Excels the hell out of the optimal production chain ratios in this game :D
Orchards require quite a lot of skilled workers though and can't handle pollution. I didn't do the math but I just prefer to use farms with sheds, silos and processing plants, which are also a lot easier to build than fruit processors.
@@MoDlegion im not neccesary a master at this game but inever run out of skilled worker once i unlocked orchards. just keep upgrading residential to downtown house
Early morning CPP. Grab a cup of coffee and listen in. A nice calm start to my day.
10:12 And that is how "The Line" came to be! (Just none of their planners wants to admit that).
Btw, I really enjoy these Urbek videos! :) Once you get tired of those, I wonder if you wanna take a look at "Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic", it seems like it has its own unique spin on city-building (you can basically either buy stuff (roads, buildings etc) with money, or produce the resources yourself)!
Soviet republic really goes in depth with the resource and production chain. I personally found it too overwhelming to be honest. But enjoy the heck of gameplay videos of it, oddly enough.
Literally commenting just to show support for the series. Phil, ya do good work.
Been playing this game ever since I watch your last video on the game. I can't stress enough, how important is to not zone things in huge swathes. The resource gaps will swing very wildly and you'll run out of space quick on the default map size. This is especially true during the very 1st gameplay, when you don't knowledge about the various unlocks, and will end up with huge chunks of inefficient sources of productions
I just started playing Urbek and I love it! I never played city sims properly before, and I think Urbek is a great gateway: starts small and simple, then the complexity grows, but never becomes too daunting. I also enjoy the blocky aesthetics which, for me, is a throwback to late-90s isometric games. I played RTS rather than city sims back in those days, but they looked pretty much the same.
Little did he know, there would be no “next time”. I hope you see this comment man… id love to see you play this again
Nice! Was hoping for another episode. Been loving the game and loving your take on it. Also wanted to say you don't need to delete (bulldoze) things when you want to replace them. Use the ALT key and build right over them.
In regards to happiness to happiness the **ONLY** thing that makes people happy is their home. So you can't make those iron miner's house residents more happy any other way than having the house upgrade. As you said you need 9000 pop for that. It took me a while to grasp that the only way you raise the overall happiness score is to upgrade homes.
That or ordinances you can pass
But what's the downside of "low" happiness? Any penalties?
@@NipapornP Happiness is a requirement for certain buildings/structures. So you can't progress without it.
@@bitslammer Oh, thanks! Didn't realize that, as I'm still a beginner (10h) in this game. ;)
@@NipapornP Also some winning conditions require happiness. Life of leisure or whatever it’s called does at least
A tip for supporting your modern grain silos: A grain silo needs 6 warehouse squares (2x3), if you build 3-4 silos as close to each-other as possible you can support all of them with a 3x3 warehouse, which saves up lot's of space and resources.
As for lateral parks: if you place them right next to roads or pedestrian paths they look how they're supposed to.
You can rotate the lateral parks in any event with Tab. So you can make a nice line
@@japes7 Can I rotate other buildings as well with TAB?
@@NipapornP yes, it's mainly usefull for metro hub, but can be used on other buildings too
@@mrjblacc85 Well, I like to have shop fronts at the... errr, FRONT! ;) So, thank's for the info!
I have been obsessed with this since you last posted it. I definitely wish there was a way to add back trees since you can accidentally get rid of them! I relied heavily on lumber power for a long time before my city was established. This is definitely a game that benefits from patience - I have had to delete whole blocks when I built too quickly. The result is really worth it though. You can really develop unique neighborhoods and areas.
After 50+ hours of playing I appreciate finding these things out. From my experience I would suggest building in blocks early on and leaving centralised blocks free for future acquired buildings to keep people happy. I also recommend trying to get 4 ore mines around one block of iron ore as it created 20 rather than 5 ore. Then its a rush to steal. Keep an eye out on your high stilled workers too, the sooner you can increase population to get the university do it. Satellite industrial towns work well as you can cluster logistics and residential so that the manufacturing plants share them and you need less workers. And for farms, just dedicate a big area to farms only.
Great tips!!
I wouldn't mind seeing more of this game. I immediately dumped 100 hours into it and I feel like I've gotten pretty far but I have to start going through my city and redoing areas and increase efficiency
You got me started on Urbek, and so far, I think it’s a deceptively deep city simulator that scratches my itch to build. I just wish this was available on iOS - seems like a perfect game for the iPad
Urbek would be great on the iPad! This game is excellent for on-and-off casual play sessions. But I wouldn’t really expect it to happen, I assume porting over to iOS is a very complex task for a small shop.
I bought this game largely based on your initial video. It's such a fun, casual little city builder! It is cute and colorful and there is just enough challenge to keep things interesting.
I bought this game after watching your first video on it and played for 8 hours straight. Love this game!
love this game and series. keep it up because its a lovely hidden gem of a game
we wantz more urbek!
Wish you would play more of this
This honestly might be worth checking out for me at some point. Thanks to your videos I’ve been on a Cities Skylines bend lately, but that game quickly becomes demanding on my laptop even with minimum settings on. Urbek seems much less taxing
The reason city skylines might be demanding is either your laptop is old ( no offense ) or if your using mods it might be affecting your FPS and CPU
City skylines is a game with odd optimization choices. There are mods that help increase frame rate and loading times. I heavily recommend them
Urbek is really good I highly recommend it
It's a great game and doesn't require much in terms of resources. Worth checking out!
I’m so happy you came back to this game. I started playing it after your last video and it is definitely one of my favorite city builders (mainly bc it’s one of the few that runs well on my laptop). Can’t wait to see more!
Those red and white fishing houses are actually very swedish!
Nothing better than early morning City Planner Plays
I hope we get to see new Timberborn videos!
gonna have to get this game. reminds me a lot of minecraft not just from the graphics but from the way it functions, i used to play minecraft way back and we would have these huge multiplayer servers with upwards of 300-500 people, and we would have nations, i was a city, road, and district planner in all of them, in one i was the prime minister and we had a settlement of around 80 people, which was the largest on the server, and i built it from the very beginning. this game reminded me of it especially cause of the farms, balance of resources and houses upgrading. blast from the past for me.
As I'm to design a simple city-building boardgame this game's mechanisms could bring good inspiration
As Always Enjoyed the Video. Nice one Phil. 👍
what name is that
I absolutely love these episodes so far!
Here's a few little tips:
- Parking lots are being created when you have too little connectivity in the area. You can combat this by building bus stations and later subway stations on the streets.
- Food production should be top priority. As soon as you see the net food in red (top right corner) you should instantly switch to creating more farm fields/tenants and later plantations and food production facilities.
- Iron miners huts produce way more iron than the mine itself. These should be built as densely packed around your mine (5 lots distance max) as possible. With six logistics around your mine it will upgrade to a large mine (same area but more production). A shop near your Iron huts lets them upgrade to 3-story huts which produce way more iron than the normal huts.
- Trees are really just there for optical reasons and for wood production and you don't really need much of this. I currently have a city with 100k+ inhabitants in eco housing and have like three or four sawmills and that's fine.
Loving this game! Quite the unique city builder.
I’m loving this new game. Please keep going
After watching your first play through of this, I was itching for the 2nd. Great stuff!
I even downloaded this game myself and have got myself hooked. Though I do seem to be doing the same thing I did with banished which is, I get to a certain size of city and then start a brand new city... Gotta push through that wall I think.
It’s really fun to try and “win” the map, I don’t know if you have done that. I had to make a ton of 5 story green mixed use buildings in my city. You really get encouraged to play in different ways through the “win” conditions.
Best description for this game that I've read compared it to a puzzle game with a city builder skin and it is very true
Great video as always, just keeping it consistent, I like it. Great game too, a different concept if we look at other city builders (not sure we can call this one a city builder), still it is a concept that pleases me quite a lot. Well, I just wanted to share that sometimes it is nice to play and post other games, and this is one I like a lot, so keep up the good work, Phill!
Oh it's definitely a city builder. What I didn't realize is how far the buildings can upgrade and things become more modern like a proper city. CPP is still in the very early stages of housing in this game.
Your laughter is really unique!
Loved these videos, it's a shame I can't find more on Urbek on your channel but I'm glad it meant I found you!
Yes! Was looking forward to see more of this game!
I'm sure it may have been mentioned elsewhere ,but the power producing lumber buildings do a good bit better if there are 4 houses close. Just another way to shore up the power situation.
Edit: Also for others reading the comments Just adding more Villas will eventually get you to happiness goals as long as you out pace homes that produce low happiness.
I love how Phil's crippling park addiction kept causing problems. This game looks really cool!
I really enjoyed these 2 episodes and would love to see you continue it on screen,
Also I would love to see you give Sim City 3000 a try it was my favourite city builder growing up
You are like the Bob Ross of city planning games
Havent yet gone through the comments, but a tip ingame changes lategame experience of redesign a lot: use ALT and click to build on top of existing structures without having to bulldoze
I found that a 14x14 area for farms is great because it fits 4 farm houses, a landlord's house, 2 to 3 silos and some other stuff too
Hey City Planner Plays, You can adjust the speed of the first person camera by scrolling your mouse wheel up or down.
OMG that ending 🥵🥵🥵😂😂😂... Please continue this series
Yay! More Urbek content.
Don't snooze on policy. That's how you really set the theme of your build, and I.ptive happiness.
If you aren't going to build landlords, use policy to improve tenant farmer happiness for instance
i love the variety keep it up
I think it would be a good idea to have a farm that expands in 2 directions. On one side we can have grain silos which will later upgrade to polluting solos and later you can build more pouting sheds and food plant.
On the other flank, we can initially have tenant farming to be quickly replaced with orchards and fruits plants
Certainly really liking this little game series. It is a good break from City Skylines.
Can we see more of this game please? :>
Please have more videos on this.
I loved it! Keep it going!
thanks for continuing!
I love you bro, thanks for making me way less frustrated 😅
Glad to see more of this game
Verde Beach: Known for its fires.
Villaflores: Known for food shortages?
The fishermens houses reminds me so much of home
This game is great! You are great! Thumbnails are great!
You should place bus stops to prevent parking lots to show around your down town area
Don't be afraid to build worker houses in industrial areas instead of multiple industrial buildings, by maximizing synergies to get the most out of a small area, you can then offset unhappiness by building amenities and villas on the outskirts of town or by enacting policies
Hey Phil! This game recently got a DLC. Would you continue the series plz? I rly love this game and really love your content too! 💜
I can’t wait for you to put buses in this town
At 21:42 you mention those colorful houses. I think they exist all over Scandinavia, I've seen a bunch off them in Norway.
They do indeed
please keep uploading UCB vids, CPP. Thank you and take care, my friend!
Gg bro, love your way of doing the videos
Love your videos.
I love your videos
You have unlocked City Council
Love your vids!
MORE OF THESE!!!!!!
I enjoy you branching ouy
Love your videos - been binge-watching lately, and have almost caught up on everything! If I could just ask one little thing: Would you please lower your background music level a tiny bit..like just one setting/number/click? It's right at the level on this video where it's competing with your voice and being very distracting. (I'm tryin' to learn here!)
Has anyone taken a shot every time he calls a mulligan and survived btw?
yay cpp early on my day off couldnt be beter
Use the shortcut keys.
It’s much faster. Especially for roads and bulldozing.
I bought this game after watching this video. I am stuck on getting to downtown houses.
City Planner 1700 edition! "Let them eat Cake!"
Make a full playlist!
Yey! Nice game
In build mode, you can hold ALT in order to replace the existing buildings instead of having to destroy it before. 🙂
Be careful when filling areas though. It replaces everything where the building may be placed. Speaking from experience
Great video. Thank you. Are there police and fire?
Was wondering when you upload another episode.
Have you ever tried to play Ostriv? it would be nice to see it played by you.
i want moreeeee
continue it!
PLEASE MORE URBEK
the logging camp produces power i think if i remember right
With the dock and their associated homes. I wonder if you can use a local food market versus using the mini market.
you cant. its exclusive to farm and farm only.
@@haniffhussein got it. That's unfortunate. I thought maybe it would be a fish market.
@@JonathanStMary Would be a nice add though. ;)
Great job and a very new interesting game for me to play.
Also, unrelated. But why does my eyes deceive me that it looks like a boat passing through n imaginary canal?
Can you please try Oxygen not includid
If you hold ALT it will force build. Then you don’t have to bulldoze the trees first.
Please more
you'd have better space management if you made roads with a 2 tile spacing. (road, tile, tile road) grid based. would fix your coal town
Please tell me there’s more of this series coming
videos are amazing bud, but the only thing i see blocking you from more views is just those video lenghts, i am not forcing you to make other types of videos, no no these are awesome for someone like me, but you can maybe consider that
I feel like cpp would enjoy stonehearth
Built more bars and Marts? The I wanna live needs to have a bar and a mart that I can walk too
Does this game uses Work force and resourses as it trade values for constructing, instead of cash, or am I wrong?
That's really interesting thing.
It would be outstanding if it applied value theory.
Good question. It uses many resources as currency for constructing things and maintaining things.
Unskilled work is the most basic and is used for building and maintaining basic buildings, skilled and high skilled work is used for advanced buildings, like nuclear power plants. Steal, iron are also used. There’s over a dozen resources, It gets decently complicated.
@@s4098429 *steel!
steal = taking away from others w/o paying ;)
ya know if they make a dlc i will pay for it
