How do you like the new 32-bit float recorder by Deity?

hmmm - 32 bit in mono - not so sure!

Most times I have my vocals set as mono instead of stereo in my video editor. All of my recorders record in mono and this just helps to keep everything solid. The sound is mono but is present in each speaker (L and R) equally. The 32-bit feature was a mystery to me until I started using it on my Rode Wireless Pro. I absolutely love the combination of 32-bt float along with the other features the PR-2 offers. 🔥BUT!!! I do hope they add the feature of 32-bit float for stereo. Being the stereo option is there - let’s take it all the way! 🙂

Fantastic work! This shows all the workflows I had questions about.
Thank you for showing the phone app and discussing how one can check the pr2 audio quality.
You sold me on the system.

I have to say this!!! Anyone thinking about buying the PR-2 needs to do it. I have been using the Rode Wireless Pro and the Tascam DR-10L Pro and I do really like those devices, but the PR-2 is just awesome. Here are a couple of things I like about the PR-2 versus the Tascam DR-10L Pro (which I have loved):
    - Full-color and bigger screen
    - A more fine adjustment to gain
    - Longer battery life (30 hours)
    - 250ft Bluetooth range with app
    - Timecode built-in (and doubles as a timecode device)
    - Control up to 48 devices with the app
    - It can be an audio interface with your laptop
    - Monitor audio via the app on the phone
    - Lavalier sounds better than the Tascam stock mic
    - TRS headphone jack that can process TRRS
    - Can record in mono or stereo modes
    - Can use higher voltage pro mics
Also, I use the Tascam X8 and have been trying to figure out a hack to get the timecode setup with it and the PR-2. I figured it out and now I can use one PR-2 on my client, one PR-2 (as a timecode generator) each on top of my cameras for a two-camera interview, and the other PR-2 as a timecode generator by connecting the Tascam X8 via the RX-Link cable. So now I can effectively do a solid two-camera interview and have dual audio using the W. Lav Pro / PR-2 and the Deity S Mic 3S boomed overhead with the Tascam X8 - all synced by timecode. But you’ll need to download the free Sidus TC Sync software to sync everything up. To make my workflow easier, I do plan to purchase a couple of TC-1 devices as well - even though the PR-2 can be used as a timecode generator. Deity has really done it this time!!!

Hi,I have Tascam X8 and Sony A7IV,Im looking for TC,why did u use RX link cable for timecode connection, didnT connect via (AK-BT1) bluetooth? Im trying to choose TC1 or PR2,as a timecode or sometime without Tascam X8 as a recorder PR2,RX Link cable for Camera to PR2 -TC mode?

How do you get timecode into and out of the X8? Using up an audio channel? My problem is that Davinci Resolve seems not to handle audio timecode in audio files, only video files...
I have been using an Atomos Ultrasync Blue with my F2BTs, F3, X8 and even the Zoom F8nPro. And I show the Atomos iPad timecode slate or the small screen of the Blue to the cameras. I kind of like the Blue and it has helped me out a number of time when I could not rely on audio syncing or when it would have been too much work. I just ordered an Ultraync One to become an interface between the Blue and other TC-enabled devices, like the Wireless Pro or my F8nPro, but I as an unpaid hobbyist I am thinking of how to distribute TC to my non-TC cameras apart from the manually slating. So I am considering TC1 or small cameratop recorders with LTC. PR2 and/or Tascam FR-AV2...

Great video, well researched and well presented, thank you. I have two Zoom F2BT and a pair of the Rode Wireless Pro recorders, but the PR2's timecode features have caught my attention. Would such a recorder substitute a TC1, eg living on top of a camera? Then the price difference would be minimal, but with a bonus of recording capability... Can it output LTC on one channel and (scratch) microphone sound on the other?

    • @NOlimitsON

Thanks a lot) the PR2 would be a great option for it) but you need to double check about the LTC and scratch audio, I didn’t test it

How easy it is to copy the footage out of PR2? While Rode is more or less plug an copy, I've seen another review that on PR2 you need to always dig in the settings of the recorder for it to be connected as media storage?

Thank you. Is it possible to use the PR-2 as a recorder and at the same time with the TC-1 time code? Will I have the recording with the PR-2 in time code with the TC-1 on my camera?

Thank you very much for the video! Whenever I'm going to buy some equipment, I look for your videos. Could you answer a question? I would like to know if the bit depth remains 32bit floats when used as an audio interface on a PC or Mac? Sorry if it was already mentioned in the video, but I couldn't find the information.

Can you sync multiple PR2 and Record. For example, having multiple cameras with a switcher. The deity TC 1 doesn't have an SD card from from my understanding. Therefore, syncing and recording 2 PR2 seem more effective than using a PR2 with a TC1 in a multi camera scenario. Thoughts?

I understand that it doesn't transmit sound but just record it internally ? Why is it better than the Wireles Pro that can generate timecode AND transmit sound ?

Not exactly, you mention what is nice about it yes but no comparison with a wireless transmitter. As nice as these recorders are, I would never use them on a shoot. Just imagine having the mic of a talent scratching le whatever and not hearing about it. I would get the Deity Theos instead

what do you mean by transmit it?
this is not a wireless transmitter that record internally simultaneously.
this is an audio recorder with a headphone jack, period.
it is insane that you cannot monitor your audio with the headphone jack while recording.
of cores you can connect a separate transmitter unit to the headphone jack and do it that way if you need to do it, but the product itself is not intended to be a wireless unit.
Zaxcom has a patent on Wireless audio transmitters that records internally simultaneously.
this does not apply to the PR2.
    why would zaxcom sue them?!!
at the end of the day you can connect a wireless transmitter to the headphone jack on all the audio recorders on the market,
Is zaxcom suing them all ?

The same applies to the Tentacle sync. You cannot monitor audio with headphones while it is recording on the US version of the tentacle synch for the same reason that Zaxcom holds a patent which forbids this. However as the Deity and the Tentacle have bluetooth they are effectively wireless devices!
