@@vothography the connect is more if you’re trying to transmit audio. If you want that I’d go with the theos kit. If you just need a recorder, then the PR2

I see Tascam is running a sale on their DR-10L Pro recorders. They must be feeling the heat from people swiping credit cards to buy the PR-2s! lol! Man this device is hot! 🔥 I have two of them and plan to get two more of these. The functionality and the sound is awesome and the recorder features are way ahead of my beloved Tascam DR-19L Pros - sorry Tascam!

I’m wondering how the sound quality of the Tascam DR-10L Pro and Deity PR-2 differs. I know it comes down to the quality of the lav mics. Anyone have any input on this??

oh maaaaan this thing is amazing !!! The only thing i would LOVE for weddings are small 32 recorders like the dji mic 2 that i can clip to the bride fast without cables and stuff, but something that does not look distracting. Like a super thin dji mic 2 with timecode that is it that is all i need for weddings and small jobs. i already have the theos, i want the pr 2 but one that is just as small as possible that would be amazing, and the last thing i would love is a communicating timecode generator that followes the fps of the camera. i sometimes have to change fps and that will basically turn off timecode.
Yo Justin, was greating catching you at NAB. I am a sound mixer by trade and also shoot on cameras at a pretty high level. For my professional work I use my sound bag with shure axient transmitters and recievers which is great but I dont really wanna use those for things like weddings since they are just too nice. I fully trust their transmitting but obviously they cant record internal. I have used the tentacle syncs with their track e recorders and love them however I think I am ready to swap to diety just for the pricing and better UI. Since I wasnt really impressed with tentacle when I went to NAB they kinda stopped innovating which is sad. Either way I am looking for a unit I can use at weddings that I can trust. I know about the DJI mic 2 but tbh I'm a little elitist when it comes to prosumer gear when it comes to audio haha. I can totally transition to the pr2 just to replace the track e recorders and be fine but it would be great to be able to monitor the audio for situations like your reality tv weddings. when the mic is on people all day. I did like the diety theos but I couldnt record and transmit like the dji mic 2. which tbh I dont know how they are doing that with the zaxcom patent. Another pain point would be wanting to have comms and monitor my lav audio. I have tried the hollyland units and I'm a little underwhelmed of the quality, just not super comfortable which is just me. I would love a way like I said to monitor my audio and transmit comms. maybe with a normal headset with a mic cable to go to my phone and use an app while also using a 3.5mm cable to the camera to monitor. I know this is a lot and I'm a total gear head just trying to figure out the best plan of attack for an upgrade that doesnt use my axient wireless.

Justin, thanks for previewing this system. I’ll have to check it out. One question though, I know you love that Audio Technica small condenser mic for boomed indoor dialogue. Do you know when Deity plans to release the Deity Uni-Mic they previewed a few years back?

Quesitos folks. I already have a DR 10L and I also have the pro version so I shot myself in the foot twice. If I buy the new Deity lav mic in theory could I hit record on all 3 clap and use that clap noise to sync the dr10ls to the deity and have it synced?? Leaving them recording to the end of course.

Thank Justin for this INTERESTING & INFORMATIVE video. I have 2 questions please. 1. Can I use a cable to connect the Deity TC1 Code generator to this PR 2 Pocket Recorder to jam code it? I'm wary of using Bluetooth to sync them because it's not reliable as UHF. 2. Did you receive this recorder for free from Deity. I'm sorry I have to ask because I don't see it disclosed in this video. Thanks again.
Hey. So yes, you can jam the pr-2 from any timecode device by plugging into the "input" on the unit. This includes TC-1s. Also, yes, Deity did send these to me however all of my other deity products (tc-1s, bp-trxs etc) were all purchased from me. Even my tentacle I threw lol. I wasn't paid to say anything nice or even make a review for Deity though. I have just been anxious for this release since they announced it in 2023.

Those deity batteries are not rechargeable. But there are a lot of lithium AA 1.5v batteries on Amazon that are. And they can be recharged with USB-C.

No, the batteries are not rechargeable. They are single-use Lithium batteries. We also sell them separately by the 8pk for just $15.

Quick question, does the deity theos essentially do the same thing as this?
@@RadTwin the theos is a RF transmitter and receiver. This is just a recorder. The theos can be put into a standalone recorder mode but it’s just an entirely different product line.

ya my ignorance led me down the tascam/atomos/ultra sync path. Super irritated. It's workable but I would rather have the freedom to choose other devices.
@@xjet25 yea it’s totally workable but I blame their marketing for that. That’s what’s frustrating these days is companies don’t tell you the full story lol.
I got my 3 yesterday. I'm happy... But I'm not this happy lol lol lol. All that's missing is a better clip and a little bag.
Haha I swear the only big thing to me is that clip. I really wish they could even make an aluminium replaceable clip.

@@JustinPorterMedia I have the TC-1 and been using the tentacle syncs with it, I had bought the TC1 and was expecting these PR2s to come out quicker. It's a pain though to have to manually connec the cable from the tc to the tentacles. I will probably cave in and buy these eventually so it will sync automatically and not have to worry about it, then just keep the tentacles as back up or if I get to where I mic up more of the wedding party. Just really new to shooting weddings anyway and been doing freelance work with a company to get some time in and make my own edits for a portfolio. They are super basic though and don't want much creativity so its killing me shooting like that. Hoping to get out on my own by next years season. Always been inspired and learning watching your creative stuff and style. Sorry for the long reply lol

@@noflavorimaging3335 the theos is mostly for transmitting. It’s a different tool. I’m keeping my bptrx. I’ll buy these too but not getting rid of the other ones. They still work great

So for us mid level wedding shooters why this over the rode wireless pro ? Correct me if im wrong but were looking at $600+ for.the two mics and timecode generator .....now i understand with this set up i could in theory do a 4 person podcast ....which is something i do want from every wireles mic company ....but is that it though? longer battery life ....the lav mics ....4 channel recording in close.seating areas....please dont take this as hate because im ready to spend i just need to understand why im spending double.
@@dominiquerichardson so it’s kinda 2 ways to answer that question. Totally respect you asking. The short answer is it’s just a different tool. If you’re multi camming or using more than 1 audio source, the rode wireless pro is immediately out of the equation since you only get one generator with the kit. It’s designed for a solo/content creator workflow.
Do you film with more than 1 camera? If yes, are you wanting to sync timecode to all those cameras? If yes, then go deity pr2 and tc 1 route. If no, then you’re fine going the rode route however, you’ll overpay if you ever change your mind. Buy once cry once :)
@JustinPorterMedia one thank you for responding......two why can't I just jam sync all my cameras? If the pr-2 can send out timecode I can connect both recorders to my a1 and fx3..... used the app to sync and send timecode to my cameras before removing the recorders to record the wedding day....great video idea BTW would love to see if that...because it might save us some money if I can just purchase the new pr-2 recorders
@@dominiquerichardson cameras don’t have accurate timecode clock. This means that they won’t actually maintain timecode accurately over time. This will cause drift and you’ll be super frustrated when it happens because your clips won’t align correctly with audio. To prevent this, you have to keep a generator on every camera. So if you have 4 cams, you need 4 generators.
I made this huge mistake in the beginning of the year. I had 4 cameras going for my ceremony and only had 3 tc-1’s. I jammed the 4th camera and put it back on my FX3. My dumbass left the groom camera off timecode. (I should’ve left it off the aisle cam.)
It was a super long catholic ceremony and it drifted after 50mins. What a nightmare to make the correction.
Save yourself the headache and frustration. Your time is way more valuable.
Timecode is a game changer.
@@JustinPorterMedia This isn't correct. Camera needs to have Genlock to prevent drift. Jamming time code only sets both devices to the same time at that moment, from then on they are free to drift apart.
