I believe that if Qui-Gon had trained Anakin, the outcome would have been radically different. I think that Qui-Gon understood and connected with Anakin on a different level than Obi-Wan ever could, not to lessen Obi-Wan and Anakin's relationship, especially as he matured.
You're right! Idk if you know but as the 1st reply says Duel Of The Fates(the name of the battle/theme playing during the final Maul vs Jedis fight) is named that for exactly that reason. Dave Filoni explained so perfectly even though I'm going to quote it it's still worth watching on your own. So he says that the fate isn't will the battle end with the sith or the jedi winning the fight the duel is over the fate of Anakin Qui-Gon is what Anakin needed a FATHER! He absolutely believed in him and the chosen one prophecy he would've done absolutely everything to keep him on the right path. Obi-Wan never believed truly and he felt more like the council "the boy is dangerous" he took him on solely due to his promise to his master not that he had any faith in Anakin at all. He could've been the worst jedi recruit and he still would've did it to keep his promise, as such he was BROTHER to Anakin but the brother relationship couldn't give Anakin the guidance he needed as Obi-Wan was a strict by the book guy as well and when Ani bumped heads with council masters he never got back up from Obi and we saw their mistrust of him fester his anger and made him oh so easily to manipulate by Palpatine. Qui-gon himself was a rogue and always defiant against the council as Obi said here "you'd be on the council if you listened to them." He wasn't a strict follower of politics and whatnot he listened to the will of the force itself. Obi-Wan was the brother he didn't need Qui-gon would've been the father he needed.

The end of the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Darth Maul shows the difference between Sith and Jedi very well. When the laser partitions separated Qui Gon and Maul from each other, the Jedi began to meditate, calming down, and the Sith, on the contrary, walked in a rage like a tiger in a cage, filling himself with emotions. And when Obi Wan attacked Maul after the death of his master, you can see that he was filled with rage, which took him out of balance, since this is not the way of the Jedi and he does not know how to handle it, and Darth Maul, being a Sith who has been raised inside the order since childhood, who on the contrary feeds himself with emotions, easily he was defeated and thrown into the mine, and only when Obi Wan was able to calm down and return to balance, he was able to defeat Maul
By that very same logic though, darth mail fighting with rage and aggression allowed him to kill Qui Gon in the dual. Additionally, while obi wan was fighting angry he actually had more success, dropped mail, and split his saber in half. If anything I think it shows the dark side is in fact stronger

Technically, Anakin was STILL the chosen one and did end up giving balance to the force - just as Darth Vader. He killed himself and The Emperor at the end of The Return of The Jedi - the remaining Sith Lords, restoring balance to the force and fulfilling the prophecy. With his destiny complete, Vader passed into the force as Anakin Skywalker again (you see this at the end of Return of The Jedi when Luke sees the force ghosts of Yoda, Obi Wan and Anakin).
SOOOO excited for you guys to get to episode 3. Are you planning to watch Rogue One after the trilogy?? It is REALLY good, full of great action, and it ties the old trilogy and prequel trilogy together VERY directly.
Here's how I see it. In Episode 6, Anakin DID bring balance to the Force. Luke's impending death had reached the "good" (Anakin) that Luke had sensed in Vader. When "Vader" picked up the Emperor and destroys him, it was the remainder of Anakin that undertook that task. Vader, (more machine than man), his life-support system having been shorted out by the Emperor's lightening, was killed by his own master, and being the final two Sith, thus ending the "rule of two". Anakin died in that hangar bay, in the arms of the "Son of Skywalker", lovingly looking into his son's face, with his own eyes, and perhaps seeing himself as he could have been.
darth maul was 17 in this movie and anakin has no father, he was created when darth plagues and palpatine ruined a sith ritual and impregnating a slave woman named shme skywalker with th pure power of the force
“Was that necessary though?” The biggest problem with this trilogy distilled into a simple question. Get used to asking it, especially when watching the next movie. If George Lucas had SOMEBODY to tell him “no George, that’s stupid”… these movies would’ve been much, much better.
The problem with that is he probably did have people telling him no at some point but he was also very controlling. There are two types of directors typically. One type wants to see his vision produced to the letter and would use marionettes instead of actors if they could. One type is more collaborative and allows actors to take the information available about the character and their situation and play with it to make it their own and real to them. Not saying one is better than the other, they're just two opposing styles. He wrote the stories too which makes it even harder to take outside advice/criticism. He's an amazing world builder and on the nuts and bolts technical side of making the film happen, he's second to none. He created Industrial Light and Magic specifically to do things with special visual effects that weren't even possible in the film industry yet. Its a real shame he got so much negative feedback from fans over the prequels. Its what ended up causing him to sell to Disney. I wonder how many haters of the prequels regretted trashing his films when they saw what Disney did with it.
The Force is never a person. I think of it as a life force, something in each of us but at different strengths. It takes more than being strong in the Force to make a person a Jedi. The Jedi Council looks for certain character traits before admitting someone to the Jedi Academy. . That's probably why Yoda rejected Anakin. He saw something in Anakin's character that would tempt him to the dark side of the Force.
The Sith are the Ancient enemies of the Jedi. While Jedi are masters of the Light Side of the force, The Sith are Masters of the Dark Side. Thousands of years ago, there were once as many Sith as there were Jedi. I like to think that the entire fight between the Jedi and Maul is happening at that enhanced speed and we're only seeing it at normal speed because that's how it feels to Force users and we don't have any normal people moving around in the space to compare it to. Obviously that doesn't quite hold up in some scenes where it's a mixed group of people, but it would explain how easily the Jedi and Sith take down normal enemies and avoid danger.
