@@sharpfang 1 year later, but about lumping elderbug in with pale beings: i always thought it would be interesting if elderbug and zote are actually incredibly failed vessels who managed to escape the void but then forgot, just like the main character. the difference being, they had a lot more personality than the player or THK, and so elderbug never thought to head down and grew old in dirtmouth, and zote felt the call to go down but never learned any actual combat skills. zote looks so much like a vessel, and elderbug really looks like zote
@@dr.funnybones Elderbug is a youngling compared to most in-game characters. His comment about closing of the stagways places him too late to be of any impact. But I agree about Zote. I think he's a Team Cherry's joke on the most failed vessel ever. Like, failed in literally every aspect the pure vessel could be. Take the king's mantra, "no will..." etc and reverse every line and you've got Zote.
32:00 It's remarkable how most players (myself included) have a tendency to stay right in the middle of the two enemies, when in fact if you move close to one of them, it will close on itself and basically cease to threaten you, which lets you fight the other one alone (you can only fight it from a distance anyway). This makes the fight MUCH easier, but the idea that you have to be close to an enemy to be safe is so counterintuitive that most player don't think about it in the heat of the battle. ^^ In this sense, this makes this fight kind of a puzzle.
I've seen a few playthroughs of this game now and seen a couple of my friends play it too, every single person has referenced Owen Wilson when encountering those shroom dudes lol. Makes me wonder if they actually put in an edited clip of Owen wilson for their voices 😆
Edit. I think the reason salubra thinks the village is full of life is because she's too big to fit through the door. She simply hasn't left her home in a long time.
Can I just say something about the sequence skip you did in Greenpath the other episode? If not don't read below. Normally, you would run into Conifer fairly early into Greenpath. But, because you did the skip and then beat Hornet before rapping all the way back to him, the map appeared at the shop. Also, normally you would spot Hornet twice before the 3rd time when you fight. This kinda adds more context to the stalking comment she made
I wouldn't consider this a spoiler. It's more a gameplay design thing he circumvented and soft-locked himself out of which made him misunderstand some lore he's theorycrafting on. Perhaps edit and interpose "non-spoilery" into your leading sentence? Otherwise, he might skip this too, haha

Spoilers below!!! I wonder what ending Oliver is going to get. I would assume that he would get the default ending since void heart is rather hard to get without a guide. But it would be really cool if he got to fight the true final boss and considering how observent Oliver is, it might be possible for him to actually do it.
Everyone I know had to follow a guide to get the "true" ending. But seeing how observant he is of the lore and how much he loves backtracking he might stumble on it. To get the "true" ending alone you have to have a grasp on the lore instead of hack'n'slash ing your way through (Which is what I mostly did).
Weird that in your "revisiting recording, theorycrafting and note review(?)" you didn't mention the very first thing to "happen" after you start the game (ignoring text)
I love these playthroughs and the theorizing, but I can't suspend my disbelief for how blind it actually is at this point. I am very sure nobody has used the term pale being at this point. Only Tiso comes to mind, but he says "pale thing". In an episode before Oliver also talks about the "fungal wastes" when the term used by Elderbug is "fungal grove". For someone who is normally so pedantic about every little word and writes down notes this just seems off and a bit much for coincidence...
EVERYONE, LIKE THIS COMMENT TO MAKE OLIVER NOTICE IT!! The next game he plays should be UNDERTALE! The way he thinks about everything he does and how much he loves this soundtrack, I think him doing an UNDERTALE play through would be awesome!
I adore the notes summary and theorizing at the beginning. So fun to see where your head's at.
