    Marcie, Ive enjoyed “meeting” you and your family today. When I find an up and coming new channel, I like to watch all the videos I can to help build your hours. I like to set it on a playlist and let it play as I go to sleep and play all night including allll the ads. May I suggest you make a playlist of every one of your videos. Becky from Acre Homestead has hers set up like that. I look forward to getting to know you all more in the days to come. And pray your channel grows enormously to help support you and your family. ❤

      Wow! You're so sweet to support new channels! I've never heard of anyone doing that before. You're an angel. OK, I can put them all into one playlist. I'll look into that. Right now I have them separated by genres. I didn't realize there wasn't a "play all" button. But I didn't think very many of them were good or that people would want to watch all of them either, haha. Thanks for your prayers! It would be awesome to have my channel an extra source of revenue so I don't have to work so hard on writing curriculum every spare moment.

    Just now saw your site. Welcome to Virginia! I'm south central at the state line. We were in central NC for 19 years then moved up here 10 years ago for our church. My husband passed with cancer five years ago so I'm by myself but I'm glad I'm in the country. We moved from Texas and got a beautiful place like yours but only 18 acres with one stream and a waterfall. Coming from AZ and then TX we couldn't believe how cheap it was. We only had two kids but we homeschooled and loved it out there. It came with a Christmas tree farm but we gave more away than we sold lol. Your place is just awesome. God Bless!

      Wow! Such a similar story as we lived in Texas for 7 years before moving to NC. The waterfall sounds so neat! I wish I had one. So glad you homeschooled and had Christmas trees too. I want to plant some someday. Made me laugh that you gave away more than you sold. Thanks for your kinds words.

    Noticed you admiring the fiddlehead ferns which can easily be transplanted for a landscaping feature like foundation plantings. You have found a garden of Eden minus the old car wreck. Welcome to the Appalachians - I live in the mountains in NC which is more expensive than downstate. I am so impressed by your implacable reliance on the Lord to help you find it and would love to hear more of how you have depended on the leading of the Lord. Your kids just seem so darling, and I hope their lives are rooted in Jesus. More power!!

      Thank you! Sure, do you live in Southern Virginia or Western NC? If you do, you can come to our farm and pick blueberries from our bushes. They are $5 for a 1lb container (size strawberries come in). It's on the honor system, so pick whenever you want and leave money in the money slot. We open around July 4 and close around August 10. Email me for the address. marcie@singlemomonafarm.com

    What a beautiful piece of Virginia you own! Just love that someone took the time to plant so many fruit and nut trees. Hope you will share how you harvest when the time comes. We have a Walnut tree in the yard that seems to have nuts ever other year but it is so tall, we can't get anything from the branches although nuts fall to the ground. Looks like a heavenly place for kids to make forts, explore, and just have a great life!

    • @singlemomonafarm
      @singlemomonafarm  2 місяці тому +3

      Thanks! I agree, so heavenly! I never thought of sharing how I harvest, so thanks for the idea! Yes, the walnuts have been every other year and we collect them off the ground and dry them, but it's a lot of work! I have new respect for nut growers. They're so hard to open and lots have worms... Now I know why nuts are so expensive.

    Love to see a video on how to buy a farm and raise 10 kids without a job…..

    • @singlemomonafarm
      @singlemomonafarm  2 місяці тому +7

      I did say a little bit about how I bought the farm and I'll continue producing videos about how I raise my kids. Let me know if you want anything specific. As for no job, I baby-sat every day in my home, tutored children in reading, held nature camps for kids, and wrote curriculum to sell online while in Utah. I still do all these things plus sell eggs, do yard work for people, and a few other odd jobs. I am mostly focusing on my blog, homeschool coaching, and writing & selling curriculum on my blog and TPT. If I can get several hundreds of things on there in the next year or two, they can sell the rest of my life. So I write at least one new product every week. I've also had good support from my parents and church for car and house repairs. They know I'm working as hard as I can to build a small business and when it gets going they won't have to help anymore. I'm also super duper frugal.

    • @singlemomonafarm

      The mortgage is under $1200 a month and I don't have many bills besides that. We heat with wood, don't have a/c, have well water, etc. We live very frugally while I'm starting a business writing and selling lesson plans and homeschool coaching. Also I run nature camps (like Forest school), babysit, clean houses, any odd jobs that come up while my business grows. I'm hoping the business will be able to support us as it's something I love to do and can stay home and raise my children. But, yes, it's been very tight and we've had family and church help. I'm so grateful they believe in me to help these first years and I'm hoping by fall I won't need any help if my stuff sells well this school year. That's my prayer!

    How will you get out when it snows? Do you have 4WD? Lovely home and property.

    • @singlemomonafarm
      @singlemomonafarm  Місяць тому +1

      Haha! Good question! Nobody has asked before. Our first year we were snowed in for a few days. But the town was closed down anyway. No church, libraries closed, etc. So we didn't need to get out. After several days a neighbor came and drove his truck out our driveway to pave a path for us to get out if needed. I grew up back a 1/2 mile dirt road and we'd be snowed in for a week and thought it great fun. So I haven't been too worried. The past 2 winters we didn't even get much snow! Hopefully next winter we do.

    Love your place. How do you make money?

    • @singlemomonafarm
      @singlemomonafarm  3 місяці тому +8

      I write and sell curricula/lesson plans, run nature camps on my property, sell eggs, have our PYO blueberries in July, clean houses, dog walk, babysit. Lots of little ways! And parents on both sides have helped me during slow months. We're definitely just barely scraping by but we've always been super frugal and are content with what we have. We're happy and healthy and that's what's important. Still, I'm hoping by fall 2024 I'll have enough stuff written and things selling better that I won't need their help anymore. I tried taking a job outside the home last year but it was too hard on the little ones. Jobs only pay $9 an hour around here (even with my degree) so it's just not worth it. I felt better about staying home and writing lesson plans, taking odd jobs when they come up, and continuing to scrimp than working outside the home. I know all small businesses take time and in the long run I'll make more money and have more fun writing and selling my own stuff than working in town. It's a fun creative outlet for me. And I get to be with my kids all day as we don't have family nearby.

      Yes, it is. I'm willing to work hard to stay home with my kids. But I'm hoping my website/blog and selling my curriculum becomes my main source of income in a year or two and I won't have to be searching for so many odd jobs, even though they're pretty fun and give me variety. Thanks for your encouragement!
