After just over 2 years of ownership, the RSV4 is a love/hate relationship. The bike is a rush to ride but all that power and exoticness comes with a price.

Your bike is really special and if you do decide to sell the buyer will be getting a terrific machine! It seems to me that you like adding modifications and customization but now there's nothing left for you to do. I personally haven't touched anything on my bike, even the exhaust is still stock.
I have two and its my fourth Aprilia. To date, no major issues. 11 years with my Tuono. Track days, crashed on black ice, still awesome. I ride the poo out of them. Wouldn't buy a R1. Maybe a new S1000RR if I wanted inline-4. But the best bike you can buy if you're not racing is a Tuono V4 ... period.
I love my rsv4rf 182/500 le and its the best bike ive ridden and believe me ive rode loads of bikes and nothing comes close to this Italian masterpiece i had the first rsv4 in white and i got the bug straight away then up graded to the rf and wow what a bike you get what you pay for in this life fact
Great honest video. Just got a new to me FZ1. Had to narrow down to what I would actually love, use for the type of riding I would actually do, and make the purchase with reason rather than emotion. Got down to a short list of 3 bikes and then bought the one that was the right deal. Super stoked with what I got... now just waiting for riding season up here in Canada ( street sweepers just started to roll ).
Still ride my 04 RSV Millie Tuono throughout the year, It’s probably cost me the price of a new bike over the years (Sprag’s, Annual rear Metzlers, Chains and sprockets, Electrics...). I’ve ridden most modern bikes and also have a MK5 Guzzi Le Mans amongst my other V-Twins...as with my MK5 Lemon, I could never imagine letting go of my V-Twin Tuono!
Just bought a used 2016 couple months ago and still lovin it. Felt really tall at first but once I set up suspension sag for my weight it felt much better. Only has 6K miles and haven’t had any issues yet, but I don’t mind wrenching on my bikes… American, Japanese or Italian. Great power delivery! Always a fun ride. Too much bike for everyday street use. Very very loud with Austin race exhaust, but it sounds so good I can’t bear to change it. I don’t see myself selling it. Amazing Ride!
I owned a 2017 Aprilia Tuono RR. Not the RF but it was an incredible bike. I sold it start of 2019. I bought it new and in the first 6 months I had the coolant pump die (a known factory issue) and fan sensor re-install. It was aggravating to say the least. Still the bike was a joy to ride hard. They (Aprilia) don't like to be 'managed' for inner city riding. They like it high in the rev range so much so that the bike was only at it's happiest above 7,000 rpm and accelerating. Perfect for highway or distance rides but not suited for inner city. Not Inner Sydney that is. Everybody should own a V4 at some point. The exhilaration is unmatched. The engine is in my opinion the best out there and the Aprilia chassis is world class. Still being without a bike now for 5 months I'm getting withdrawals......
Hmm! You raised some interesting points about the technical issues, cost and getting parts. I was considering trading in my Ninja 1000 for the 2018 RSV4 RR, but now I'm having second thoughts. Great review.
I was riding home from work late at night empty streets and a guy on a RSV4 pulled up next to me. He was wearing a business suit which is unusual but I'm talking northern beaches in Sydney so maybe not. He launched the thing it bogged down for a second or two then took off.My god I've never see anything accelerate that hard was jaw dropping from where I was. Can only imagine how you would have to recalibrate my brain owning that machine crazy...
I'm on my 3rd Aprilia. 08 RSV1000 Tuono, 14 RSV4100RF, 18 RSV4 1100RF Tuono. The o8 20 K miles 2 cam sensors. the 14 16K miles no issues, the 18 3K miles no issues.
Mine coughs fire after the first day off the showroom floor at 100 km. . Tank psv valve failure , fouled injector. 3 months in the shop. Then shifter recall. Dealer wouldn’t fix. 9000 km head gasket blown. Not sure if I’ll get one again.
Come on brother yes it's hard core not for long run,but 20 mins on twisty road you'll regress in age. At 55 my daily ride when sunny is my 2008 ZX14 turbocharge. We only live once enjoy 🏍️🏍️
@@ross5506 Yep. 57 and ride an FZ 07 damn near every day. 1st bike in 30 years. Almost 7000 miles since last June. Live in Iowa so didn't get to ride ALL winter but did get some rides in. Ride safe my Brother.
Hey MP. Here's a view from the opposite end of the spectrum. My '16 FZ 09 has 30k miles and I have had absolutely no problems. I know it's apples and oranges, but I love this thing and it's super fun to ride. BTW, I went on one of your meet up and rides to Palomar.
I've watched your journey with this bike because I love it from a distance. My situation hasn't allowed me to buy this bike, I am much older and am quite satisfied with my Yamaha. But hey this is still my dream bike. Wishing you all the best in how you make your decision. Ther is always a void between emotion and conviction. We buy bikes largely on emotion. I have had my bike for nearly three years and when the weather is hot it's hard to get motivated. I ride mostly two up and it is our freedom. All the best. If you want you can find me on FB. Cheers mate from Australia!
Do u still have this bike?? I want to buy it. I’m serious. She needs a good home and someone that will ride her like she was begging you to. I’m in sf ca. U in so cal?
Yeah my favorite sounding bikes forsure. They seem so satisfying even at lower speeds! I wish I just liked the front end fairings and headlights more just not my thing.
I appreciate the honesty. I am also eyeballing the new 2020 RSV4 Factory, but feedback like this, while certainly welcome, does give me the certainty that I would like to have to be sure I am doing the right thing. I know Italian bikes possess character that no other bikes do, but there is something to be said for the maintenance-free nature of their Japanese counterparts. It feels like it is indeed a hit or miss with Italian machines, given the responses here.
You gave so many reasons why it best to buy Japanese Bikes. The one exception is the Triumph sport bikes. I had a Yamaha Sprint RS (not the touring bike) with the 955i triple. I had it for 12 years with no breakdowns or unexpected repairs. It was 437 lbs, and I was a short rider which made it scary sometimes, but it did have a low seat so I could touch the ground on the ball of my foot. I was older when I sold it, but I wanted to ride still and bought a smaller and lighter sport bike Yamaha R3 which shocked me for being so much fun. Unfortunately my riding friends have all retired from bike, and I must ride alone. After 4 years I have no problems with break downs, but being a new motor it had some recalls. I would trust it to ride cross country with a made for my bike Saddlemen seat, sport bags and rear top bag. With better tires and slip on it has not disappointed in any way. Until the Triumph I started with a Yamaha off road bike and put 3800 miles before I sold it to buy an RD 400, and none of those bikes ever had a break down. What I'm saying is if I step to a bigger bike again it will be Japanese.
i had the panigale for the last 4 years and raced it , now i ordered the v4s , i hope it will turn out as reliable as my current bike . this sounds like hell , stuff can break but a bearing not there from factory thats just nuts and will channge how you feel about the bike forever
I have a 2013 rsv4r. It’s a fantastic bike but I too have a service light on. I do my own oil changes, does turn on the service light? Also it runs hot, like at a stop light it can reach 220degrees easy. Is this normal? Any help would be great!!!!
220°F is totally normal, i got a tuono ans in town at 30 miles it comes easily at 210. For the service light check forum they give you the code to clear it due to oil change
Great review , and in my reign of buying lots of new and newish bikes over the last 12 yr period, would have bought one of these without hesitation, had to many makes and models of sports and sports tourers and naked bikes to mention , had twins inline fours triples,, but never a v4 , sounds and looks great, and the tuono,, sadly brought to an end by a heart attack , sadly now got a fazer from my son that’s 20 yrs old cos that’s all I can afford ,, but ah it’s still a bike ,,, thanks for the vid Shane uk 🇬🇧,, will sub and check out the rest
You got the Yamaha 750Fazer the 1986 with 5 valve engine, such underrated machine bullet proof, unique looking. Perfect if they would bring it back. Good health and keep riding. Cheers from Ajax Canada
I have a 2017 Aprilia Tuono 1100 RR and also a 2016 Kawasaki ZX14R SE and I'm trying to decide which one to sell so I can pay for a bathroom remodel. Both are sweet, the ZX14R pulls like it wants to rip your arms off, rides smooth, and has enough steering lock to move it around the garage, but the Aprilia's motor sound and character is just so sweet. Mine has the color screen and has never given me any issues. Even though it's technically "slower" than the ZX14R, it's stupid fast and I could never use all it's ability on the street. The quickshifter is amazing, the Bosch 5 axis IMU with cornering abs, traction control, wheelie control, rear lift control etc makes it great. It's an Italian exotic, which generally comes with more maintenance. I haven't had any issues yet with mine, but I haven't changed exhaust yet it sounds so good stock. My only slight regret is that I didn't buy the RSV4 RF they had on a deal and traded my ZX14R towards it. That bike is probably the ultimate machine...then again the RSV4 1100 Factory is out now, hmm. If only they gave it a good paint job...
I’m sure the race ecu is better tuned, but it wasn’t “needed” to fix the bike. The exhaust servo delete is all you really needed, or you can just unhook the cables but keep the motor hooked up and it would have been a free fix, although if you keep the servo motor in, you don get the 1lb or 2 weight savings from taking out the servo motor.
😂👍 I love my RSV4’s, I have 2. On a side note, I also did an impulse purchase last year when I purchased my Ducati XDiavel S... I should had just bought what I was planning on. Which was an Ducati Hypermotard SP... but, test after riding the XDiavel I was like I most have this... but after putting 13xx miles on it... I realized that am not ready for this type of relax riding. This bike is just to laid back for riding. I love it though...
With a race ECU and the kinda crappy gas in Cali u gonna get the light that comes and goes. Buy VP or Sunoco 100 by the 5gal jugs and run only that. Should do that anyways seeing u don't ride alot.... those fuels don't degrade real fast or have the ethanol so their shelf life is really long
I impulsively bought my RSV4 RF LE. From that point forward I asked her to be loyal to me, when she gets sick, Italian girls are often, I will show loyalty to her... but that's me.
I’m on my 3rd aprilia. Love em and if you learn to maintain your bike there’s no drama. People stick to so called safe options but if you character/ soul you need to invest a little more $$.
Im itching too but I hate to have issues with Italians parts, back orders, paying through the nose on parts and repairs they don't take nearly as much abuse as Japanese ones do.
Great video! I have a 17 ZX10 with 25k miles on it and it hasn't had not one single problem absolutely perfect but i'm seriously thinking of updating to the new 2020 RSV4 rr but worried i might regret it, or just get another new ZX10, but damn i like the look and sound of the RSV4
Man, I'll be straight... this was a depressing video to watch. I could just hear the v4 in the background ripping in the background, yearning for your approval and the desire to thrill you as you rode her talking about the novelty having worn off. If I had the money, I'd be offering to take her off your hands but I don't have the ability at the moment to drop such a serious amount of $$$ at one time. I always have appreciated watching your videos as the allure of the rsv4 has always been documented. But this was just one depressing video for sure man. Good luck on whatever you decide to ride next. But I bet the rsv4 will always hold a place inside of you that no other bike will.
This guy said he buy it at deal 13000 dolars and the real price is 17000...maybe someone give it back because of the problems this bike had and Aprillia put low prince on it!
The big issue with Italian bikes is faults, always make sure you have a dealer near as you will have a problem. I had a R1 and ZX10 both never missed a beat, then wanted a Ducati as a beauty to look at and brand new, 32 miles from shop warning light came on oil coming out of belly pan lucky not too crash but was driving like Miss Daisy as new so was picked up and a week later got it back. It didn't like water either as lucky for me it was on a expensive centre stand and it would start up on it's own with out the key in it, so that was fixed by lots of electronics and loom change. Lovely bike but weak, and cooked my balls all the time. The R1 had 22,000 mls on it and just 2nd gear was getting noisy but it was rode hard with track days and always serviced and checked the valves and all where in spec. Had a Fire Blade and that was great but false neutrals was a pain.
Learn to do the small stuff eg. Oil changes/tires/chain and sprockets. They aren't difficult to work on, only issue with Aprilia is parts availability. I've worked ony vtwin tuono and the v4 I had and had no issues with either one
My 2019 Tuono with only 4500 miles on it burns around a quart of oil every 15 or 1600 miles. Warranty just expired so the dealer tells me I’m out of luck but this Oil consumption is normal. Lost all confidence in this brand.
I've had an 07 Tuono 1000r for 9 years, it's got 95,000 kms on it. The stator burnt out, which i replacement myself for $150 but I've had no other problems. I also have a 17 Tuono Factory which has 10,000 kms on it and have had zero problems. I do my own servicing for less than $100 per bike and neither bike has ever been to a workshop for repairs or maintenance. Just keep your Ape or you will regret it. Nothing else will give you the same feeling.
I actually sold my brand new Aprilia Tuono 2017 after riding it 9 months. I had it towed to a workshop in total 7 times over that period. Issues ranged from the dash not lighting up at all, to the starter motor failing, to even the ignition key getting stuck (and 2 tow mechanics and the workshop manager couldn't un-stick it). For me, it was absolutely unreliable and I could never second guess the next time it would fail on me. Happily riding a Triumph Street Triple RS and haven't looked back since. For those who think I'm making this stuff up, I have photos for every time it has broken down on me to prove it. I will never recommend an Aprilia to anyone ever.
That’s interesting. You must’ve got a bad one. Two of my friends own an Aprilia, 16 RSV4RR and a 17 Tuono Factory. The RSV4 has 30k with only a fan issue, the Tuono has 15k and had a fan issue (apparently is may be a common thing idk) and an oil leak here and there which was covered under warranty. That’s sucks though, hopefully they’ve worked out some kinks. I’m looking at a new RSV4 or a new R1.
Hey mate. Sounds like you might have just bought one of those bikes with a few issues. Just like me. I just bought my 1st 2018 Harley Davidson Fatboy, after riding sports bike for over 30 years. But guess what. I picked up the bike and 10km down the road the rear light stop working. So back I go. Then 190km later, there's a very small oil leak from the rear cylinder rocker cover. So back it goes. Well 1600km now and it's 1st service time. They do that and they tell me that I need 2 new stock mufflers. Because the baffles have come loose. I pay the money and off I go. Just waiting for the mufflers to come in. Yesterday I head off down the highway and the red immobiliser light on the dash come on. Yep, you guessed it. Back to the dealer. All they said was, there was something wrong with the front brake switch. Well all fixed now. So, I think that your bike is not that bad. And I wanted to buy a Tuono and not a HD. That's what a wife can do to you, lol... Love your bike. Great video. Needs more wheel stands though.
Never buy a first year design, even if Kawasaki own HD wait till 2020 the future is bright for HD. Remember who built the biggest V-Twin production Vulcan 2000. All I can say buy stocks now cheap. Kawasaki builds best engine! Now there building mega factory in India. Them baffles should be under warranty without a question.
I’ve bought my 2016 RSV4 RR brand new and I have not had any problems or mechanical issues with mine ... NONE !! I had the dealer install the Akra exhaust with Race ECU. They did a great job, no lights, warnings or anything. (Aprilia of Portland) I’d hate for someone to think “you are getting into” some kind of quality problem with these bikes, because it can happen with any brand. Just look at how many R1s are having crank issues. Most people without problems don’t take the time to write a comment. I’d love to upgrade my bike to the 2019 RSV4, but honestly I don’t need more power. Change the gearing ratio on this bike, get the race ECU, dial the suspension and you are done !! Like your videos ..
@@deankruse4491 These comments are really discouraging. My dealer has a 2019 RF with 1k miles on it for $12.5k rn and I was going to pick it up tomorrow. Now im really second guessing this.
@@Motoreject who knows, you might get a rocksolid bike with no issues. I personally wouldn’t do it unless the dealer is close to your home. Good luck bud. 🤞
In all honesty you sound a bit worried on that bike. I agree its had problems, and id be pissed off to but its a stunner....hot girls are high maintenance.I have a Busa....japanese rarely go wrong. Super stoked with what I got... now just waiting for riding season up here in Canada ( street sweepers just started to roll ).
I love the sound of that bike. Good choice. MP
Keep a sharp eye on oil consumption. Mine burns way too much oil right out of the box.
Any issues with the aftermarket exhaust? Sounds to me like the oil leak and seal is down to that?
I just pick up my 2020 rsv4 Misano limited edition #62 last month it’s a beautiful bike love it 😊
THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR THOUGHTS AND INFORMATION... PEACE AND LOVE...
CycleCruza si also having some intensive experience with an Aprilia :D
The whole time you were talking about leaking oil i was just looking at the bike thinking WOW that's a beautiful machine!
I'm on my 3rd Aprilia. 08 RSV1000 Tuono, 14 RSV4100RF, 18 RSV4 1100RF Tuono. The o8 20 K miles 2 cam sensors. the 14 16K miles no issues, the 18 3K miles no issues.
Random but where did you get the aprilia decal for the bigger windscreen?
Oh you bet I'd buy another.
I own a '18 RSV4 RF LE#14.
Like most things, it's not in my
life if it does not make me smile.
And she does.
Mine coughs fire after the first day off the showroom floor at 100 km. . Tank psv valve failure , fouled injector. 3 months in the shop. Then shifter recall. Dealer wouldn’t fix. 9000 km head gasket blown. Not sure if I’ll get one again.
I like this kind of presentation; no BS just bike news. Unfortunately I am now too old to ride but thank you for this honest production, nice country.
You're never too old to ride John Tripp.
I thought about an RSV4...but I am glad I went with a 2018 Suzuki GSXR 1000R....and a 2019 ZX6R
A gorgeous motorcycle. I understand the impulse buy. Where are you that there are so few trees?
I have a 2013 rsv4r. It’s a fantastic bike but I too have a service light on. I do my own oil changes, does turn on the service light? Also it runs hot, like at a stop light it can reach 220degrees easy. Is this normal? Any help would be great!!!!
220°F is totally normal, i got a tuono ans in town at 30 miles it comes easily at 210. For the service light check forum they give you the code to clear it due to oil change
You sound a little shaky does the bike vibrate allt?
I put a servo eliminator on my rf ,service light never came on again.8500 miles no problem yet.
Kawasaki are Superb. !
Seems like they suckered you into a 600$ race ecu when all you needed was a $50 heal tech exhaust servo delete plug.
Spectacular superbike Aprilia, beautiful chose:) Noale its a great factory of worker, great technical ingegneries.😉🚀✌
😂👍
I love my RSV4’s, I have 2.
I just bought an '18 Tuono 1100 RR (my dream bike) that I pick up next week, hope I don't have these kind of issues and then buyers remorse...
The RSV4 is my dream bike. I thought that they would atleast have fixed some of those issues by 2016 but it seems there are still a lot of problems.
That’s off of la Sierra I knew that looked familiar pretty sure I’ve seen you around... ride safe🔥
I’m on my 3rd aprilia. Love em and if you learn to maintain your bike there’s no drama. People stick to so called safe options but if you character/ soul you need to invest a little more $$.
I will go back to CBR for my next bike!! But I love my RSV4. I also do all the work on my bike.
Good info. Thanks!
I love that bike and I am itching to buy one!!
Sound alone is worthy all its money trust me
I wouldn’t buy another one especially if I couldn’t find a dealer close to my house.
Good to share your thoughts. Sell it in April...
That is one bad ass looking bike.
owned one since aprc 2011. till today.. no issues.
Got a 2010, working fine!
This guy said he buy it at deal 13000 dolars and the real price is 17000...maybe someone give it back because of the problems this bike had and Aprillia put low prince on it!
If I can't wrench it i'll never buy it. but I do like watching the road approaching very fast. Ex T120R rider...
Looks like Lake Matthew's area in Riverside! I'm local too!
Had a Fire Blade and that was great but false neutrals was a pain.
its an italian thing they are build to break but u dont mind cos its fun and nice
The same feelings i had when i sold My MV Augusta Dragster 800rr . Awesome but it just Didn’t work out
These problems aren’t for me!Ill stick to the Japanese bikes.Great video bro.
After having logged 10k miles on a 17 Tuono RR (No Issues), I sold it and purchased an 18 Tuono RF, no regrets!
My first bike was a yamaha r6. Second GSXR 750. Think I would be ready for this one?
no sorry, you need to have ridding a litre bike
Yes. My second bike is the RSV4. They are VERY smooth.
Luke Jerace can i have your r6 ? For my birthday ☺️ this up coming May 4 🥺❤️
Learn to do the small stuff eg. Oil changes/tires/chain and sprockets. They aren't difficult to work on, only issue with Aprilia is parts availability. I've worked ony vtwin tuono and the v4 I had and had no issues with either one
the sound!! :)
Did you notice any changes when you put the race ecu on ?
Performance seemed mild. Gearing was huge
the service light pops on for your money
Nice. i just took a photo of my bike at the same spot. 0:25
Riverside can be pretty this time of year.
Yep my 2019 is a lemon. Lost all confidence in this company don’t think I would ever purchase another.
A Monday or Friday bike!🙀🙀hope that’s the end to your wows with it..
Where did the bearing go? Was the case not installed with the bearing?
My 2019 is a lemon. Don’t think I would ever get another Aprilia unfortunately.
@@Motorejectwish I knew this at the time…I’d buy !
Does it have stock steering damper?
Yes, made by sachs for the RR version and an adjustable ohlins the RF version
I have a friend that really wants a Aprilia, I'm going to send him this video
In all honesty you sound a bit worried on that bike. I agree its had problems, and id be pissed off to but its a stunner....hot girls are high maintenance.I have a Busa....japanese rarely go wrong. Shes huge and terrifying, but i love the fear and id never sell her. She has twin Yoshis, and when i open my bike locker my adrenalin goes....every ride is a special occasion, and if you dont feel like that its time to sell.
The most special liter bike. Period.
What about an S1KRR?
