Hi, I’m one of the mod developers. Just to give people some clarity on what our goal is and what has been done. 0.6 (the current version) introduced this new map with all these new provinces. There will be tweaks as we fill it with more factions but in essence, this is what the mod will look like province-wise. The only parts that have been truly fleshed out in terms of units and factions are the Hellenistic world and Thrace. That means that areas like Gaul and Britain are mostly filled with rebels at this moment but that will eventually change as we go through those areas in their own updates. The next major release will be all about Rome, but it’s still many many months away. It will feature all-new remade units and yes, plenty of legions. It will also feature scripted historical revolts and emergent factions which is partially why Italy have so many provinces. When it comes to provinces in general, we add them based on historical evidence. Some areas are quite dense as they were densely populated in real life. We have multiple accomplished historians in the team as well as contacts with some of the best experts in particular fields in the world. We strive for accuracy in everything we add. Other things to mention are the massive amount of long and detailed descriptions we have for units as well as each faction in the starting menu. Lastly for those interested in the mod, I recommend joining our discord where we have more explanations on why and how as well as developer diaries showcasing what’s coming next. :)
Thank you for that clarification and information - with that in mind I’m probably going to put a hold on the Rome Campaign and switch to a Thrace or Greek since they’re more completed. Really looking forward to the Rome update from what you’ve described! One question I did have, are you guys considering having a 40 units or more option. One of the flaws of the original Rome in my opinion was the fact you couldn’t really enjoy the scale of how battles actually were fought. For example, using the Pre Marius units with a 20 unit max doesn’t really allow you to have enough units for form the 3 (minimum) lines, and have skirmishes and also have equites. Would love to see at least 40 units! The mod itself is right now my favorite for sure though, amazing the level of work you all have done, especially the historical accuracy.
I love your incredible work, so it pains me to say this, but will there be a version with less settlements (but obviously more than vanilla)? Sieges tend to bog TW campaigns down quite a bit when settlements are close together. Boiling it down to the major cities + strategically relevant ones from history, would be more than enough to feel convincingly accurate. The Achaean peninsula for example, could probably do with six. Sparta, an independent but soon to be re-subjugated Messene, Megalopolis, Elis/Olympia, Argos, and Corinth. They’re the relevant ones, and I could have fun playing that map without feeling like I was “missing out” historically. I hope you don’t take this critique too abrasively. You guys have done amazing work, and I would hate to appear as if I were belittling such excellence in any way. I just really don’t want to get bogged down in the TW games I play, and if I had the free time and the skills I would definitely be making a mod along the lines of what I mentioned myself. In any case, good luck to you and your team!
I agree, although I would much rather prefer a focused in campaign based in Europe, similar to the Italian, Egypt or Peninsular campaigns - for the time period most of the fighting takes place in Europe, and it’s not until the mid 1800s we see more common global wars. But I take your point, Empire’s massive map is insane
I'd also love to see either that or just an Empire 2. I kinda disagree with the notion that the rest of the world didn't experience much war, however Total War games were always more sandbox-ish so it's more about the potential for diversity in content for each faction, region etc.
Hey mate, would definitely like to see you continue this. There aren't many people covering this wonderful mod. I like your commentary as well, you seem to have a genuine knowledge of history and of historical warfare and tactics. It makes your commentary very nice to listen to. Watching that battle in the hills outside Messina was awesome.
2 years later: alright I conquered italy 4 years later: ha, conquered gaul before Caeser did! 6 years later: entire roman empire 50 years later: legionnaires
I must say I'm intrigued: since even "rebel" settlements and forces seem to have a tribe name ascribed to them, I'd really like to see what name they decided to give to settlement & people in my native Finland (seen at 0:53.) Placing the settlement at the mouth of Neva river is an ok decision, too, even though it is somewhat ahistorical (probably portraying Staraya Ladoga, a Varyag fortress founded in 8th century), as there are no findings that would implicate any urban development in the period this game takes place in.
Good video man! I’d recommend playing the remastered factions rather than Rome atm, so the Greeks, Thracians, Anatolians (although only the Hellenic ones) and the Diadochi :)
To add on to what Eumenis said, all the Greek and Thracian factions are fully completed. All other factions are still work in progress, with Rome being the focus of the next big patch. That's why the Greek world is a lot more fleshed out currently than other areas of the map, as well as faction rosters. @@realtomic
I've been thinking recently about the possibilities of the AI in these TW games, can u imagine have some AI that really "thinks" about the strategy? wisely preparing attacks, diplomacy, alliances, proxy wars, economy etc... Imagine chatting with some AI nation and planning an attack? ou getting sorrounded by a well made alliance? or having you economy sabotaged? or even a Nation that have a loong plan to attack you when you are most vulnerable? the AI we see today are capable of it, and i hope someone implement it into this game soon.
You’re right in the sense that the controls are not built for 1808 settlements, so it does get tricky. If the game was built from the ground up to have 1808 settlements I’m sure it would be more user friendly
@@illiafilatov5521the mod team wanted to make a grand strategy mod, it’s not for the faint hearted but it’s a core of the design philosophy. What it gives is regional conquests that take time and require a lot of strategic manoeuvring. In my opinion that adds way more than what it takes away. Also there’s plenty of factions that start with 1-3 settlements so there’s no difference in terms of the amount of settlements you’ll be managing compared to vanilla with these factions.
Just a warning to anyone thinking about doing a long campaign. Saves past Turn 400 are corrupted. The team is working on it. The mod is still in 0.6.3 so it has a lot to go.
Hello @Thompai, I am curious to know. Did you play the mod on easier difficutly or hardest ? Because my first time I played the mod. Still playing the same first campaign, since the mod is so massive you really get the sense of becoming and being regional power, then slowly rise to become continental, this takes time. Got little carried away there. My first time playing it was very hard difficulty, and playing with odryssians in the balkans is hell to begin with. So, after surviving 50 turn like this, turn the battle difficutly to easiest and campaign to the defualt (v hard). I am asking because in your video you took over so many settlements in 20 turns, which with the odryssians would be very hard to do on the defualt difficulty.
Too many sieges!!! :P If there’s a version of this with less cities (just the big + strategically crucial ones), and perhaps less autism compared to fun, I’d be all over this mod.
@@jamesgordley5000 0.5 was better imo. 0.6 added many towns, upgrading settlement levels became more expensive. Especially when playing large factions like the Seleucids where massive corruption and unrest plays a role, it's not very enjoyable to play. Your shitty towns costs more in upkeep for troops to maintain public order than those towns make in gold.
What is the point of a mod with 1808 settlements? I get the appeal of more detail but that should be done by zooming in to a specific region. Doing so much detail on an eve bigger area means that individual cities become mere entries in a list and that undermines immersion.
This project is incredible but contrary to what you said, I would have absolutely hated if the vanilla remaster was anything like this. At least battle-wise. At that point just release a different game
I appreciate your point, however if they had built new menus, systems and other remodeled ui to suit the scale or a somewhat larger scale, it would be a lot more accessible.
