Ah so this is what happens when they try 🙂
When they know they are being watched
Asus' Nightmares: Steve
Wish they try on G14/G15
ua-cam.com/video/Mwf3EPnusVQ/v-deo.html
"try"
You guys are becoming the go to source for a true , honest, brutal and under the skin product reviews!
Hakam Hefny, they already are
Yeah, they're the ones I go to, especially when it comes to monitors. Still waiting on the VG259QM though.
Harbor Unboxed and Gamers Lexus
Them, GN and AHCOC are best channels when it comes to good testing on GPU-s and MOBO s in combination they are all you need! Detail thermals, electrical overview...and other stuff. The wholly trinity of tech on yt. One of them is even called tech Jesus!
What monitoring app do you use in this video?
All this EVO talk makes me want to see how an STI model would perform.
MSI Radeon 5700XT WRX STi
kuagelo my theory that almost all pc enthusiasts are also car guys too are slowly being proven
@@63beats73 Yes.
it blows
@@dustojnikhummer I bet it produces cherry flavoured smoke as well
So basically they released what it should have been in the first place
Almost 1 year later so yeah...
@@enioapolinario8538 hows that gpu now? worth to buy? Bcs i see this gpu is comparable with 2070, but it is much cheaper, at least with a fullsetup. But my only question in my head is about temperature problems. Should i buy a pc which has ASUS TUF GAMING X3 Radeon RX 5700 XT OC 8GB inside of it?
nordwish it works fine for me, and temps aren’t that high, even when overclocking. I hit a max of 72 degrees Celsius when on load.
Great job Asus but let's not forget that you have still kept selling the old model when you have knew it has problems
I feel like they have to make a revised version without other option, because they ruined the ASUS TUF reputation within the RDNA branch. Any upcoming RDNA cards made by ASUS TUF will get potentially no sales. They are not revising things just to fix their mistake, but they are revising things for the future.
cant not sell a prpduct. they are a corp and as a result they are required to sell, or in this case scam, until a suitable replacement is made. That is the nature of corporations where corp boards who know nothing
insist you sell no matter what.
oOMeowthOo
I doubt that they will have no sales
The majority of the people who are buying GPUs are not tech enthusiasts like us, and they have no idea what bad products ASUS had delivered
And they did nothing for who bought it or the strix. also they blamed amd for strix bad mounting pressure
...and that they obviously don't do thorough enough testing in the first place.
In my case with the ROG STRIX version, I have to send my card away for new screws so my computer will be out of action for however long that takes.
If I took that into account before buying I definitely wouldn't have bought their card.
I would hesitate to buy one of their products again as a result.
Just wanted to say before you're flooded, you guys are without a doubt my most trusted news source. Keep up the great work!
Reyas Q. Wilfred III even over User benchmarks?!?
@@EhrgeizTV Yes. While I had loved UB for many years, they've been making a long series of decisions that undermine their credibility.
I only trust Steves
I was actually going to buy 5700xt TUF unrevised version, I’m Lucky I didn’t!
Did you even look for tests or reviews for the unrevised version? Why would you buy a card without looking up some reviews.
Well i bought one, and i didnt like it :|
Sir Ecthelion not everyone expects or is aware of so much product variance when you just see the GPU model on the box
Metto
Save yourself from the heartache, get a Sapphire Pulse instead.
They should replace the old versions for those who bought them...
Very cool to see how the physical changes directly impacted temps. Much better this time around. Kudos to Asus for fixing a faulty design. I would hope all these companies learn they can't slide crap cards in the bottom of the line up without being noticed. Hardware Unboxed is watching! You have been warned!
Weird that it took them this long to deliver what is basically a competent mid range model, maybe don't cut corners next time ASUS.
9:54 please rest well steve, you are combining the cards now hahaha
Hahaha i wasn't the only one to spot that
To be fair, there's also a Gigabyte X570 Gaming X. Not hard to be confused by having an "X", "57", and "Gaming" tho lol
@@CommandoTM yup hahha
@@CommandoTM also there is gaming oc
@ 9:57 He Said Gigabyte Gaming X, Though he meant MSI Gaming X... Saying Gaming Gaming Is A Tongue Twister XD
Yeah I don't get why need to go gaming in names either it's confusing, I get Steve xD
88i99
It's sickening to think that they would have gotten away with it, since big reviewers usually don't care about budget models
This is a budget model?
lol
@@ycageLehT for real, even asus' low end models are overpriced as hell
It's high end actually
I nearly had a stroke reading the video title, damn these gpu names.
Thank you Steve! It's great to see that ASUS finally listened to your ongoing (and justified!) criticism. They would never fix such problems if you and the other techies would not point out that there are design flaws. Good job!
when I experience isuses with Asus products, I always called them and wrote an email about it, however, they never really listened... even though I did go into technical details and possible improvements.
Asus has thus lost me as potential customer... well, that, but the primary reason was lack of proper quality control (which leads to high failure and instability rates), along with very poor cooling designs and high fan noise (on laptops especially).
They only listened because they was put on the spot. I guarantee you if it was someone like us they wouldn't really care and nothing would have changed. The exact same thing with MSI and XFX.
It's great to be watching another Harbor Unbox video.
The MSI Gaming X version seems to be the version overall. Best ratio between temperatures, noise and price.
Sapphire Nitro is the best model. Sapphire is EVGA of AMD
Not price though. You can get the XFX Thicc for 40 bucks cheaper.
No. Red Dragon, Pulse and Gigabyte Gaming OC are budget kings.
@@dustojnikhummer it does look nice lol
I can't read other reviewers' graphs anymore... and now i ran out of content I still want to watch.
Goddamnit steves! Stop being so good at everything :P
Quickly becoming my favorite channel for hardware. No nonsense with good information, awesome stuff!
Nice to see this revisited. Definitely a much better card than the original and now worth a look if you don't wanna go all the way to a nitro+ or similar. I'd love to see you guys switching to noise normalized thermals like GN, since that's very clear cut way of comparing cooling performance.
Fantastic. I was waiting for this. Great to see that Asus made such massive improvements to the memory cooling.
I got my 5700XT for $300 at microcenter. Fans are loud but I couldn't pass up that deal
My MSI RX5700-XT MECH OC had the same issue. After changing the thermal pads and adding washers to the mounting screws I have the RAM temps down to 60C (under stress). Even so, the RAM temp idles above the GPU temps by 5 degrees (32C, 11 above ambient). I strongly suggest Division 2 as your stress test game. It pushes RAM temps WAY higher than any other game I have found.
Ah you missed a chance for the "OUT OF THE BOX THERMALS!!!" meme.
Feeling much better about my purchase of one of these a month ago. Was able to manage to nab it below MSRP and am greatly enjoying the uplift over my old RX 570
You should be considered a public service. Lol. I bought the original Tuf 5700xt before your video. I'm on my 2nd RMA. I finally linked the "level 3" customer service agent to your video and he swears the card I am receiving has been upgraded to take care of the memory cooling issue. We'll see on Wednesday when it gets here. Thanks for being such a great resource for tech news and reviews.
Grabbed one of these for $370 as a place holder for 3080. And big navi in ventory to stabilize in 2021
Back in Nov during thanksgiving sale I finally decided on 5700XT Thicc III Ultra paired with a 3800X. This card outperform every number I ever seen on any website or youtube channel even your's Steve. while running my 3800Xt on auto(max 4.3 - 4.4 GHz on stock wraith prism) and ram at 3200MHz my 5700XT eeeeeasily boost up to 2000MHz, and stays there. May be silicon lottery, I don't know.
06:00 isn't the Strix model also fixed by now? I think that's a metric from the broken ones.
I think he don't have the new version
I also think he got unlucky. I bought the strix back in October and did not have the screws issue, the heat sink was solidly attached to the pcb and my temps were fine
I hate that strix card, thing was loud and hot when I purchased it in November
I purchased 2 of the 5700 XT Strixx cards back in March 2020 for two new builds in the household, and both cards have been absolutely fine. I have tweaked them and undervolted a bit which has further reduced temps to 62deg under max load (74deg junction). The AMD driver issues also seem to have been more or less resolved. They are really good cards that, performance wise, sit between an RTX 2070 and RTX 2070 Super for £100 less, which offers v.good price/performance ratio
Minor nit: 9:56, I think you meant to say MSI Gaming X or Gigabyte Gaming OC/Aorus, not Gigabyte Gaming X. I think most people know what you mean, but I just wanted to point this out in case it got missed in the last minute editing stage before being published. Thanks for all the reviews, Steve!
I bought the original tuf version a few weeks ago because of the price and because I had a spare accelero 3 in storage. I'd seen others fail to fix the issues with this cooler on UA-cam but found it hard to believe considering how well it had cooled my 1080ti in the past. The accelero 3 definitely fixes all the cooling issues. Can give more details for anyone interested.
Hey i just got this card & didn't know about the cooling how can you tell which is the old one & the newer 1 they came out with. I don't want to open the GPU & look because i don't want to break anything. Is there a way to check the model year maybe or even a easy way to tell if this is the old one or newer one with the fix
This will be a splendid upgrade for my son's all-TUF build in a couple years when used models are going for < $200. Glad to see they fixed it.
I have the asus tuf 5600 xt and is always sitting below 65 degrees and where I live is almost 30-35 ambient temperature so I think that’s pretty good.
Great review as always
This card is $270 off at Umart in Australia at the moment. Down to 589! If I hadn’t bought a 2060 Super i would’ve got one
Glad to see them fix the temps with a revision, I'm still going for the Pulse for my build though ass the dual BIOS will actually be handy for my uses.
I use a Nitro+ 5700 XT and I’m more than happy with thermals, but not with noise.
-I am using the “silent” BIOS from the little physical switch on the card, which limits the power draw to 195 watts.
-When drawing 195 watts, the card whines at a level audible over the rest of my ultra-quiet system, and the fans spin up to mask this noise a moment later but end up being louder overall.
-When drawing 98 watts (power limit 50%, silent BIOS), the card is completely silent until it hits 53* C, after which the fans insist on spinning right up to 1100 RPM. I talked to SAPPHIRE about this and it sounds like the card’s BIOS does not support fan speeds between 0 and 26% of max. I hate this! Further, there’s no zero RPM mode over 53* C, so if the card reaches that temperature all the time I have two choices: run it at 1100 RPM all the time (which is noisy for my taste and creates a breeze in my room) or deal with spin-ups at random times. It does not have to be this way, and I am disappointed that such a highly reviewed card with such an amazing cooler cannot be tweaked in software to behave how I want. I would have returned the card if Newegg’s policy had allowed it, and here is why.
I upgraded from a GTX 1060 3GB Superclocked from EVGA. That card had a tiny blower fan and small shroud, meaning cooling performance was limited, but its OTB power limit was 120 watts so it was easy to set that down to 60 watts with Afterburner. After that, I tuned the fan speed curve on that card such that I could never hear it! Sure, performance with a GTX 1060 at half power might be a little low for the tastes of viewers of this channel, but for me, absolute silence is the first feature for which I look in a graphics card, and the nitro+ did not deliver.
Full disclosure: I sometimes game without sound, so I expect nothing around me to make any noise except me, my keyboard and mouse. All my case and CPU cooler fans are Noctua with low-noise adapters installed and a custom fan curve set in BIOS depending on CPU temperature. Also, I upgraded from an 1800X to a 3700X to reduce power consumption so the fancy Noctua tower cooler I bought wouldn’t have to work as hard.
I love you guys!
You guys really deserve a lot more credit!
a big thank you from Jordan-middle east, thanks god just now i figured out that my GPU i bought yesterday is evo.
Lol same thing
I still want this card for a TB3 eGPU for my workdesk at home that my MacBook Pro WIndows 10 Bootcamp'd can game from. Also while im in MacOS I am sure this would also help when editing videos in AVID, Resolve, and Filmora. My MacBook Pro 16inch RX 5500M 8gbGDDR6 handles but the entire macbook gets extremely hot. Its a big stressor on my macbook, even though transocoding 8-10bit video files into MXF and also gaming at 1080p 170+fps in numerous titles.....but this GPU right here. This one inside a Thunderbolt3 eGPU enclosure would be fantastic for my situation.
What software do you guys use to monitor Vrm and Memory temps of GPU ingame?
Now is time for the Strix model to get revised as well. Can't wait for that video.
If the PCB is good, this and the original would be a good candidate for watercooling. As long as the price is good. Still waiting for a manufacturer to sell a card with just a bare PCB, and no cooler, I'm supprised no one has tried it yet.
I read your original review after just ordering an asus tuf 5700 due to not being able to get the card I wanted and shit myself, anyway the tuf was reduced to £280. It performed perfectly, I put an xt bios on and overclocked it still!!! no problems at all. IT DOES NOT OVER HEAT!!! My fans are different sizes so I must of got lucky.
It's the memory that will be cooking, not the GPU.
@@Hardwareunboxed yeah I know checked temps not too bad, I fully believe your tests my fans are a different size , two large and a smaller at the end? uk spec? I dunno. Next time defo check your reviews before buying a thing for sure
How about testing a transplant of that heatsink/fan unit from the revision into the original Steve - could provide motivation to Asus to consider it as a repair kit.
Good content!
Results will be identical.
@@Hardwareunboxed a great solution to owners of the original then. Maybe Asus will offer it - thanks!
I'm impressed by the quality of the channel!
Worst to first is a great change. Wonder how the initial batch made it through testing, there was testing wasn't there?
Great Job Steve, A great win by you and the Enthusiast Hardware Community.
Win would be to fix old ones. You know, warranty and not greed. This is only good PR and brand performance fix :( Still atleast asus can do ok job when they try.
Steve, can you please comment further on the ASRock Phantom Gaming 5700XT? There is no info on it anywhere! Cheers mate
I am so glad I went with the original tug 5700xt I can't even use the computer I built and was waiting on the new cards from AMD and wouldn't you know it they are impossible to get. So now I have a $2200.00 paper weight. I have tried to contact ASUS several times over these several months. Have not recieved a reply. I'm hoping it can be fixed but as it is now I am out plenty of money for the card and I am debating on eather an APU or another 5700XT from someone else.
Always nice to see a new video on my fav channel "rx5700 xt unboxed":)
This is almost the same price as a freaking sapphire pulse which has same performance, better thermals and runs almost silent even under load. This new TUF seems DOA as well.
Thanks for the info i didint know of the EVO just the normal one.
Holy crap; the nitro is 435$ now! That’s a steal. I’ll be taking that! Thank you hardware unboxed!
The merch was fitting today, Harbor unbox... Good to see Asus getting their act together
I took my Asus Strix Vega 64 apart for the 1st time a few days back and replaced the thermal paste Asus used, Its trash what they put on it, was rock solid and when i wiped it with alcohol chunks of the dried paste fell on the floor like rocks. Replaced it with Arctic MX-4 and dropped my temps down by like 10 Celsius. Sucks you have to do it yourself and void the warranty to get the right temps that should have been out of the box. I bought the card during the mine craze and paid $600 for that crap, But manage to get 1700 Mhz clock speed and i get decent FPS on all my games at 1440P with max temps around 70c so im happy with for a year more or so.
The shirt perfectly matches the CC, this is already a good video from the get go.
Steve will you recomend get a 5700xt or go stright for nvidia i never use amd cards for the bad drivers but most ppl say they are fixed now, what is the best of this model you can recomend for the price, temperatures and noise? The cheaper one is the MSI mech or xfx RAW 2 and then comes the xfx thicc 3, best regards from México
Next will be AMG tuned Asus TUF 5700XT.
Steve i want to thank you for your hard work
Especially for x570 MSI🙏❤️
What about one more page with combined temperatures(gpu + mem + vrm, divided by 3 may be?), not only gpu term, and noise. It will be like a quick shot of overall cooling efficiency.
Thanks so much for making this. Was really on the fence about trying AMD but after watching this review I decided to pull the trigger and buy this model.
I Just enjoy watching HW content..keep it comino Steve
Hi Steve. Great video as always!
Please let me know if there are any changes on the retail box which may help in identifying the new evo.
I was going to buy the 5700xt tuff to match my tuff Mobo, and thanks to your review of that card I'm glad I didn't, but I can't just buy the tuff card now to match my system. Instead of better late than never, I think you should have said it's too little too late.
some manufacturer should start using 120mm fans for gpu´s
Here in Spain we have on sale the MSI Gaming X model for just 420 euros, as well as the Red Devil or Thicc III for 430 euros. Getting in mind that normally US prices come more expensive to Spain, they will have to lower prices. Link for reference below:
www.pccomponentes.com/msi-radeon-rx-5700-xt-gaming-x-8gb-gddr6
Bought a week ago Asus Dual RX 5700 OC EVO for 269€, selling bundle games it will cost me ~230€. I'm pleased.
Fantastic job. Without a doubt, the best Harbor ever. I'd park my boat there for sure if i had one.
And I'm still rocking an unmodified Asus Strix 5700XT. It's supposed to be the "fixed" model but you can still squeeze it to make it run even cooler. From 70s to 60s lol.
Anyone know where I can find the washers and screws to fix it? I don't know what exactly you need to fix the mounting pressure on those things. Also considering water-cooling as the block is only $120.
@Hardware Unboxed
8:45 Isnt that 5600 XT box with the new 5700 XT on it?
5:40 I find this kind of chart doesnt really help me much. I understand you show the "out of the box didn't touch a thing temps" but please do noise normalized or fan speed normalized testing instead. That would give me way a better grasp of their relative performance. You kind of touch on the problems here yourself by having to do two different entries at different fan speeds. This kind of chart shows only the manufacturer who dares have highest db and highest rpm. Can have a turd for a heatsink and blast it with 50.000 rpm it will be top card also. Ok sry you understand what i mean
Gosh I want to purchase your Hammer and Harbor shirts and hoodies but still afraid that I can't retrieve it later on the post office due to the quarantine....
Have they recalled the old model so if you were going to buy this card from
A shop how do you know your getting the new model?
my go to tech reviews, nice video as always 👍🏼
I really hope that they've learned their lesson for the 3000-series cards, as these are the only ones I've found listed at, or near msrp.
Would be nice if they let us trade on the original version...
I wanna see videos on the Dual Evo OC variant of the 5700... None has one. I just got that card and it cools real well and runs perfectly so far...
I still need to test it abit more on the cooling. But with the fans almost asleep running RDR2 or GTA5 on as much graphics as it can manage, the temps are 74 - 78C and thats with the fans going between 600 - 1200 RPMs meaning they are barely doing anything.
Glad I chose the Sapphire Nitro + instead 😂 & No drivers issues at all. Idc if the EVO may be better, I didn’t have to wait 8 months for my card to work or get a replacement. Good comeback for new buyers though.
I'm glad ASUS have released a revised version, similar to what XFX have done, but it still doesn't change the fact that the original was released in the first place. And with the MSI being only marginally more expensive while being significantly better, it still doesn't offer a lot.
I almost bought the non updated version mainly for the price but I’m glad I didn’t. Thanks for saving me the headache. I went with the nitro+ instead.
AS an owner of a MSI RX 5700 XT Gaming X. I would not Change my Card.
Best cooling Designs for 5700 xt:
1. Sapphire Nitro
2. Power Color Red Devil
3. MSI Gaming X
4. Asus Rog
so from this latest review, looks like the new EVO is a very good buy compared with Sapphire and Powercolor? Initially I really like the look of ASUS board
good to see you again steve
U did it Steve it's improved bcoz of u
Customers now can think to buy this model
Would be very keen to hear what makes you say that the same PCB from the old version is being used on this new version - Asus told me otherwise.
Steve when you did your Aorus Rx 5700 XT review i think you did it with the "silent" mode bios preset, as your review had higher temps than other reviewers who all had similar results but with the performance/boost mode instead.
Either way i generally use your channel as my "final say" for purchases of this kind, but would you also be able to test the XFX Thicc III as well?
Should I get this or wait for the next series.?I have a 1060 now.
Great, now ship the improved cooler and fans to the customers and shops who bought the non-evo version or have the old version still in stock.
At this rate, we'll soon need separate case for the graphics card only. Look at the size of that thing!
It boggles the mind why tech manufacturers don't get these 'easy to spot' problems right the first time around.
Feels like internal testing and quality assurance checking is being rushed or worse, completely over looked.
But pro's for them fixing the coolers short comings... it's just an shame it's more of a damage limitation excise than an PR win.
couldnt agree more. seems like some trainee put it all together and sent it straight to volume production without even testing the design
finance department putting pressure on the development department. want your bonus this year? use that heat sink we already made. they must have known this for years because the vega 64 heat sink is poorly aligned too.
You gotta' do the revised XFX THICC III now bro! complete set
totally trust your reviews. Just become a patron.
Is the ROG Strix numbers before or after the screw fix? and the bios update?
or is it one of the new supplies that are not affected?
Hey Steve, this card is interesting but are you confident that AMD driver issues are on the right track now?
How did you think they completed the benchmarks? You would thing if there were issues they would be mentioned. Now go back to edit were all cry babies are
Just one quick question: in your previous video "The Best Value 5700 XT Yet, Gigabyte RX 5700 XT Gaming OC Review" (8th october 2019) the value in dba for some of the cards are different than in this one, is it normal ? Ex: 42dba for the PowerColor Rx 5700 XT Red Devil and in october it was 45dba, 47dba for the Gigabyte RX 5700 XT Gaming OC and it in october it was 42dba.
In both review you are using the same Digitech QM1592 for the noise measurement.
Thanks
Yes, a mistake was made when testing the Gigabyte 5700 XT models, they're a little louder than originally reported.
ASUS should've done this since first batch
you dont say. they would have prevented it, if they knew, don´t you think sherlock?
@@roebbiej ASUS have teams dedicated to know that kind of things, right ??
Gigabyte and Sapphire get it right away
Damm the heat is sick 🔥😵
This card will keep u nice and warm in the Winter
What do you mean?
My vega makes more heat running slower then this, even a Asus 2060 super is not far off in cooler requirements and that is a little slower then the 5700xt tested here.
The only way to get substantial better heat vs performance efficiency is by going with laptop GPU or Internal CPU GPU.
Will you ever look at the 5700xt Thicc III? XFX said that it is the fix of the thicc II
Should have the power usage on the temp graph. Comparing your old red devil footage that card is using 15-30 W more power on the F1 benchmark
Glad they fixed it but with big Navi around the corner, it’s honestly too late. Regardless, it definitely needs to be $410 and under to compete.
