    Definitely an interesting question to ask. Though it was still interesting to explore another planet, despite it being somewhat similar.

    Here’s the problem - how do Weyland Yutani not know that they are sending colonists to the same system where the Prometheus went? Of course they do - it’s the most expensive expedition in the history of the company and claimed the life of the founder. So why do they terraform (at enormous cost) 426 which is “a rock” when 223 has a semi-breathable atmosphere as well as a whole bunch of alien pyramids?

      @Weyland Punani also ridley related back to leviticus, leviticus is an interesting book, it is all about the rules set down for humans buy our "creator" (engineers). Ridley is a genius, for sure the plotholes dont add everything up but still.....
      LV 4:26 "And he (david) shall burn all his fat upon the altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings (elizabeth shaw): and the priest (david) shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin, and it shall be forgiven him."
      LV 2:23 “Say to them: ‘For the generations to come(USCSS Covenant), if any of your descendants is ceremonially unclean (ship staff) and yet comes near the sacred offerings (human embryos) that the Israelites (engineers in covenant that david killed) consecrate to the Lord (david), that person must be cut off from my presence (david killing the engineers). I am the Lord."

    I like the rout they took using LV-223 for Prometheus. I use my own mind to fill in gaps left by the writer or director. For this ill say that the structures on LV-223 were "natural" in appearance indicating a stealth function in that long range sensors would not pick up whats there. Further more LV-223 was a test site or weapons depot so you don't want that blasted out to space for everyone to know. Thus its not going to be picked up by subsequent passers by.

    The problem is that Prometheus HAD the potential to tie the story to the original Alien but didn’t use it. In the script/drafts, the scene where the two engineers are talking speak of the crashed derelict on the “nearby moon.” Mind you this event took place 2000 years before the arrival of the Prometheus, so it makes sense that the space jockey would be fossilized. But ultimately the movie along with Covenant left a lot of mystery gaps for us to wonder and theorize. My hope is that Ridley can finally show us a story that ties things together and show us a proper story. It’s a bummer we never got to see more story about the accident on LV 233 or how the derelict crashed on LV 426.

    Pretty simple answer;
    They totally forgot that the jockey in the first movie was there for a looong long time enough to be fossilized.
    And since the story of prometheus takes only about 30 yrs or so before the first alien movie it simply wouldn’t add up that its the same engineer from the prometheus movie…

    I agree the same signal the Nostromo picked up shouldn’t be the one the Prometheus should’ve traced. I saw video a while back that said it was a nod to Leviticus 22:3 where the unclean is cast away from The Lord, driving home the Paradise Lost theme Ridley Scott wanted for Prometheus (which I really like).

    I liked the elements introduced in Prometheus - As you say, it gives more depth to the alien universe.
    The things I dont like about Prometheus and Covenant has more todo about camera/scene changes during story progression - Important events are crammed into very short screentime and the audience doesnt really have time to invest.
    This is especially true in Covenant...where the backburster and the throatburster scenes overlap in time and we get interweaving shots of both events without enough time to truly invest in any.

    I didn’t love Prometheus, but when it ended, I at least felt excited about what was next. Shaw taking off with David, headed to investigate further, was okay for me. Once Covenant came out though, it somehow made Prometheus worse. We didn’t need to know the exact origin of the Xenomorph. I feel like only a rookie writer, would think that that mystery was important to fans, or even interesting at all. We were just excited to see how the engineer spacecraft wound up on LV-426, which is what I thought Covenant was going to be about. Instead, it was a very unpleasant horror romp, just to tell us that David is secretly also a genetic engineer and able to fuse different species into new ones. So uninteresting, and kind of boring actually.
    They can still save it, but I have lost faith that they will.

    • @mlech6634
      @mlech6634 9 місяців тому

      David did *not* create *the* Xenomorph. The derelict from the 1979 film has nothing to do with him at all. All he did was fiddle with what the Engineers had already made to make his own version(s). I could've done without Covenant too, but it is what it is.

    Doesn’t make sense if David created the xeno, first he was at Lv 223 then flew to another system just to wipe out a planet, then created the xenos, just for the xenos to appear back in the system of Lv223 on Lv 426? How could David create the face hugger if Prometheus movie showed the face hugger engraved on the wall next to the deacon? Then it had to be recreated by David not created otherwise nothing makes sense

    Problem is engineer was fossilized in Alien '79, anything creating the xenomorph species other than natural biology in the "Ripley Universe" is insulting to original fans. Bad enough, Alien 3 (the Ripley Nightmare) killed her and rest of the survivors off.
    Prometheus and Covenant are OK and if the series follows them while staying away from Ripley timeline, awesome, It should be fun! I could be a fan of both stories still.
    What I personally see is a multiverse of Aliens/Predators/Engineers, and that's obviously just my personal opinion.
    1) Ripley universe
    2) Predators universe
    3) AVP universe
    4) Prometheus universe
    5) Dark Horse universes
    6) Marvel Alien universe
    7) Fan-made universe
    8) unknown universe
    9) Alien RPG universe
    10) video game universes
    (future) ?

    It wasn't Fox that got cold feet, it was Ridley Scott. Up until a couple months before release it was clearly stated that _Prometheus_ was a direct prequel to _Alien._
    Then, out of nowhere, Scott starts giving interviews saying that it's not. He said, "You'll see certain threads of Alien's DNA but it's not a direct prequel".
    I feel that he saw the world of all Marvel and DC movies being sequels to each other and decided he was above that.
    Which could have been ok had _Prometheus_ had a decent, cohesive story, but it didn't. It was a total mess. And _Alien Covenant_ was even worse.
    I'm still waiting for James Cameron to return to the franchise, I don't think anyone else could pull it off..

      I feel like they would be OK if they had nothing to do with the Alien series. Ridley Scott half-stepped on the prequels in a major way. It would've been better to leave it alone unless he had a solid plan. Seems like he changed his mind about what he wanted to do between films, and even during the filming of the first, and it didn't work out. Decent stand-alones, failures as Alien movies.
