You have just entered a deep rabbit hole of great Jinjer songs! The vocalist, Tatiana, taught herself how to do the scream/growl harsh vocals, but from I've heard from watching other vocal coaches, she does the harsh vocals with proper technique by using her false vocal cords (which are above your true vocal cords) and with the right technique it won't hurt her voice (that's why it looks so effortless for her). Elizabeth Zharoff of the UA-cam channel The Charismatic Voice did a great long interview with Tatiana about a year and a half ago and I would check out that video.

So this is false chord/soft pallet screaming/growling. The false chords extend over the actual vocal chords when you swallow to help keep food from going down the wrong way. Singers who learn this technique learn to control those otherwise involuntary muscles and make sound with them. If she wants to she can add to the sound with her vocal chords but in it's pure form the technique doesn't use the vocal chords. Very difficult to learn and because it's biology everyone who does it sounds different.
The false chords create a broadband noise that doesn't really have a pitch. In order to make it appear to have a pitch you have to then use your mouth and your tongue to "filter" the sound much like cupping your mouth with your hands or a trumpet player using a mute. If you block the sound in any way not only do you filter it but it tends to create a resonance inside which enhances the lower part of the frequencies being produced. At that point it's just physics as to how much space inside your vocal system from your nasal cavity down you can create to get those lows.
Part of doing that is rolling your tongue back in your mouth. Of course if you do that pronouncing lyrics at the same time makes some of the words sound a little odd so when in the chorus she does "one being brings life the other runs for death" the word "being" sounds more like "bying" and "other" sounds more like "othore". Try talking to someone with your mouth formed in a circle and your tongue rolled back in your mouth and you'll see what I mean. Done wrong the technique can damage the voice because you can easily think you are using the false chords when you instead are using your vocal chords.
There are a lot of good Jinjer songs on UA-cam. Vocal oriented people often like Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air, Pit of Consciousness Live in Kyiv, Judgement and Punishment One Take Vocal but the number of songs out there that are worth reacting to or just listening to is considerable. You could look through this list to find many good live videos. ua-cam.com/play/PLhlYsqoR9XLEpHTbaOovrpa1p8L2uZ81G.html

I am 63 and I have been a Jinjer fan for 5 years now. Pieces is a great song but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. If you stay on the Journey for a bit be prepared to be amazed with what this band can do. Tatiana is a world class growler and their are a few other female at that same level check out anything by the band Archenemy. I hope you enjoy your Jinjer journey and hope you do more reactions with your sister.

When using false folds to growl you can create pitch with your vowl shape .
She git really good at creating alot of room in her throat to resonate a deep pitch.
You can see the bottom pf her mouth extend and her neck going wider as she gets deeper.
You can train those muscles alot eazier than it would be to actually use your vocal folds to try and go that deep.

Welcome to Jinjer. Tatiana is a vocal goddess who as mastered false vocal fold growling. The band are amazing musicians who are at top of their game. To appreciate how good this band is react to their live material. I suggest "Perennial" live at Wacken or "Who is Gonna be the One" (Live, Napalm records). P.S. Tatiana is very much a "cis woman".

@@lynzistringer part of it is that Tatiana's speaking voice is a bit lower than a typical woman's if you watch her interviews. Part of it is also that I feel like growls express the singer's personality and Tati has a pronounced tomboy side that I think comes out in her growls. She's said she definitely didn't want it to be said she sounded like a girl when she growled and emulated Randy Blythe of Lamb of God. Also, she started working on growls in about 2002 or thereabouts, when she was 15, and this was recorded 15 years later. She didn't start performing with growls until 2008 when she felt like she'd gotten good enough, in the band she was in before Jinjer called Prophecy (local band, but there's some old videos online from Gading Maartein and Vidcerts Productions) which sounds to me more influenced by Otep who inspired her to learn to growl and get serious about becoming a professional musician.

Lions don't sing but they can growl. Different physiology, using true vocal cords to make these extreme sounds is near instant destruction for them.
Tatiana uses her "false cords" above the true vocal folds to get the growl. However, she has spent a lot of time and energy learning to open resonant spaces to get a deeper, more "masculine" (bigger body cavity) sound. She probably has a fortunate facial and nasopharyngial structure for better resonance too.
Also: the instrumentation is amazing. This song has multiple timing changes, key changes, riff progressions and most people just get stuck on the vocals and don't notice.

I have actually seen this being talked about before.... How the shape of her mouth and the fact that she is almost bucktoothed actually helps her be able to traverse a wide range of vocal styles. I think the same was said about Freddie Mercury

I believe if you listen to the bassists such as Tim Foust, Avi Kaplan, or Geoff Castelucci, they also use growls and even subharmonics to hit some of their extreme lows. Other types of singing that use similar techniques would include Mongolian throat singing (the Hu band). There are a whole slew of metal singers that use false vocal fold singing. Tatiana is just a beast at doing it and, when done correctly, since the true vocal folds are not being used, the voice is not destroyed by doing it.

Hey friends - this is the sister here - I did assume she is a cis woman, I just never want to assume and be completely incorrect, especially where potentially thousands of people could observe my mistakes. This was not at all to be offensive or rude to this woman in ANY way, shape, or form. I was just very impressed with the way her voice lets her do that. I am a vocal coach, but growling and screaming technique is not my area of expertise, so I was genuinely just very excited and intrigued. I became a huge fan from watching this video, and I can't wait to hear more from Jinjer!!

Melissa Cross is the vocal coach to the stars. She is the one who teaches all the A-list celebrities and metal rock stars how to do this. I am pretty sure she has a UA-cam channel. If not, I know I have seen her do a couple of videos about it on other people's channel.
Tati is self taught. Elizabeth Zharoff (The Charismatic Voice) conducted an extensive interview with her to find out how she learned to do it. Elizabeth also convinced vocalist Will Ramos (Lorna Shore) to have a doctor insert a camera inserted down his throat so she could watch his vocal cords while he performed his gutteral vocals. Both videos are on her channel.
So if you're really interested in learning more about this, then those are the two places I would start. Melissa Cross and The Charismatic Voice.

With each one she is using a slightly different vocal technique. In a true live setting she is still just as impressive without the other tracks.
