This is a live performance, but there is also some studio massaging of the sound to make it pop. However, there are bootlegs of Pisces showing Tatiana going at least as low as she does in this video, and probably lower, but I haven't found any that have good enough sound to recommend folks watch. Tati doesn't do the high clean bit near the end when performing Pisces in concert, doing a high growl instead, but uses that range of her voice in lots of other songs such as I Speak Astronomy (the Summer Breeze performance has decent sound) and Captain Clock (the Resurection Fest performance is excellent with perfect sound). Tati has some vocal techniques she doesn't show in Pisces though, that I've only seen her use in Who Is Gonna Be The One (the official video is a recording of a festival performance with perfect sound).
The depth she can achieve is talent, but her control comes down to years of practice. She is in her early 30s, started singing in metal bands at 15, then started practicing growls at 18. She practiced growls for 5 years before starting to use them in performances, and has been performing with growling vocals for 10 years, 9 of it with Jinjer. For at least the last 5 years, Jinjer has maintained a grueling tour schedule, with 130 shows in the last year alone. Tati is prone to boredom so she is always experimenting with what she is able to do with her voice to keep from burning out, and which helps her keep growing her vocal technique as well.

There are too many Jinjer reaction videos out there to count, but these guys make their mark by being super witty and funny. Definitely some of my favs out there

There is a small amount of post production on her voice but if you watch a live video she can still do that... they are a stellar find
It was live read the wiki. They recorded a few overlaying tracks first which you should be able to hear on 2nd chorus-"blaze....virgin }innocence{...one being }brings life{..the other }runs for death{." The high part "searching for a hook to catch on and see the sunbeam" she doesn't sing it high live. It was just don for this recording. And the recording was done to show case Vlad's drumming style. This was shortly after he joined back in 2016. Love her reaction. I was with ya. She was like oh this so laid back and I'm like oh just wait. The heaviness comes. \w/
Ive seen so many reactions to this song and it never gets old Tatiana is one of the best vocalists in metal she puts alot of male vocalists to shame the rest of the band is also incredible

There are several reactions by vocal coaches that describe the technique used to make the growls/screams. One of them goes really in depth (I think it was VoiceHacks) and I believe she called it fry-screaming and describes how the vocal chords are actually compressed and most of the sound it white noise generated by the false vocal chords and sinus tissue. Because of this, the actual vocal chords aren't stressed, so she can easily go back to her cleans because she's not making herself horse.

well, cupping the mic in live performances is to amplify it more, and creates sort of an echo so that when you are screaming it adds to the sound. during a live session/studio recordings a condenser mic is usually used which will amplify you with out cupping it. but this was a live session with the power of post production.

The "Micro" EP is absolutely worth checking out! Only the titular instrumental lacks a video. "Ape," and "Teacher, Teacer!" almost sound like a different band, while "Perennial" is a little closer to the "Pisces" mix. You may also enjoy their older stuff that's groovier, but still plenty heavy.

Cupping your hand around the mic amplifies the sound, and, makes it sound a little deeper. She doesn't have to do that, because, she's putting the distortion on her voice, and, making that growl correctly, in a healthy way. Most metal singers burn their voices out after doing that, she'll still sound as good after doing it for 30 years.

Cupping the mic does nothing, other than make the vocals thinner. It does NOT make things louder or heavier. Mics are designed to breathe, and cupping them kills the tone.
And yea, this is live in studio, but there are backing tracks, like vocal layers and some backing guitar stuff. The majority is true live off the floor.

@@aamiw99 When it comes to growling technique Tatiana has some of the best enunciation in the business! There are death metal singers out there that I literally can't understand a single word they are singing. In Pisces that section you are referring to seems pretty clear to me: "Scale armour belies". Interestingly this is not the same as all the lyric sites and album lyrics which say "Scale armour blaze". It definitely sounds like she is singing "belies" which fits in with the rest of the lyrics: "Scale armour belies virgin innocence"

You see, bands around the world, outside of western countries, still have to work hard to rise to the top. Western countries have made it to easy with the internet, and bands don’t get a chance to develop any more. Bands use to have to earn their stripes. Now record companies are starving for the next new thing. Ever since boy bands became a thing.
