I used the method in video "How to repair Kohler K Series fuel pump". It works perfectly. After I completed the conversion, I saw that I could have "gutted" the old fuel pump by removing the push rod and check valves as shown in this video. I would still have to used the vacuum fuel pump, but it would have saved me from having to make the plate and using the 1/8" fitting. Great videos. Thanks for taking the time to make them.
I've said it before & now I'll say it again. This guy is a mechanical repair GENIUS !!! (I've got a 2016 Kohler CV/CH 740 & I'll remember this tip)
Fixed my Cub Cadet (Kohler) fuel pump in about 20 minutes at a cost of $30! Thank you for your expertise.
UNBELIEVABLE ! YOU MUST BE A MASTER MECHANIC ! I JUST WOULD NOT HAVE EVEN THOUGHT OF THAT !
Nuff love from Jamaica you are doing a great job keep it up bro and there is your dinner mannn
Thanks for the video, Im working on a Scrub Cadet with a Krawler engine that has gravity feed gas and it runs out of gas going sideways across a hill. The briggs pump is the way to go. Keep up the good work, thanks
Great video. I did this to my CH730 powered stump grinder and it worked out great. That stock mechanical pump failed twice on me over the years and would fill the engine with gas and cause issues.
Thanks Taryl! the check valve on my magnum 20 popped out. This showed me which way it went back together!
As a follow-up, The vacuum/pulse type fuel pump conversion does work on the Kohler Triad TH18 engines. I didn't buy the tractor running so found my actual problem was clogged breather. Engine was building up positive crankcase pressure and pushing the oil out everywhere once warmed up - including the pulse pump. Once I fixed the breather, pulse pump works great. There's your dinner!
Well..... you had the right idea when you stated the problem with the stock setup, that being if there is an internal leak the gas goes in your engine and ruining it in short order. My fix was a low pressure electric fuel pump and instead of blocking off the inlet and outlet nipples on the valve cover gasket I simply ran a hose in an endless loop on those nipples and cut the fuel line and ran it along the base of the engine. I also installed a fuel shutoff valve BEFORE the fuel pump in case the pump needed replacement. The reason for this was that if the fuel tank is filled the gas will seek its own level and it avoids a mess in the future. A very easy fix and vastly superior to the stock setup. About 1/3 the cost of a Cub Cadet pump/valve cover kit from the dealer. And you don't even have to take off the valve cover to do it. It's been one year and all is well so far. If the fuel pump needs replacing I estimate it to be a 10 minute job..
Just did this to my cub cadet and worked great thank you!
Those are some sweet looking Fescue Pre-Rolls you got there Rasta-Taryl!
Taryl, great tip!!! I never thought of that. Thanks.
This worked perfect!!! Thanks Taryl!
Taryl, your Chanel is funny. I always learn something.
All I can say is these guys are great and I love your videos and it must be the same 13 jackoffs giving you the 👎🏼and they must be jealous mon
Yea screw em . i love it .
Good to see you back!
Love your video , I may not need to go to school for learning major repairs,
Thank you for the video I have the 27 hp model and my fittings are push to connect and not threaded so what I did is left the connector and added a small hose and a ball valve to cap it off
Did this replacement using a metal version of the B&S pump (found on Amazon $20). Cranked but no go. To get it running, I used a syringe to fill both the inlet and outlet hoses with gas then put them back on the pump. Started right up after that.
On a Kohler magnum 18.5 Once I remove the 4 screws from the pump, only the actual housing comes off....the plunger lever stuff is still in the engine & dont see a way to get the plunger part out on mine. The Plunger & spring at 2:58 in this video. Can I leave that stuff in there & just use the old fuelpump Cover with 4 screws & cap off one end & get pressure that way, or do I need to tear into the engine to get the lever stuff out too?
Thanku from Australia for your help videos..... My Vermeer 27hp wood chipper fuel pump crapped itself $20 abay pump fixed the problem
Taryl i have a lincoln ranger 8 welder with a 20 hp kohler and its mechanical fuel pump quit working could i do this ? those fuel pump replacements are $100 bucks. mine looked like the one on the video so i might try it
tis bout time Mon you came back Mon!
Great video as usual! Any suggestion for the pumps that have the plastic nipples, which is on all the newer Kohler engines, to plug the one side?
Question, i have a Kohler 32.5 OHV engine, would not start. replaced the fuel pump and carburetor. Starts with starter fluid will not stay running. Any advise would be welcome.
I wonder if I can get vaccumn off the line going to the valve cover to air cleaner
What would cause a new vacuum fuel pump on a b&s v twin I have replaced the carb, fuel filter, and the pump itself. I can put fuel in the carb and it will we run I am a loss
Will this work on a unit without a gravity-fed tank?
Too Funny....Your vids helped me out a few times...
Glad your back man. :-)
Worked like a champ on my Cub Cadet GT2544 lawn tractor. Good call Taryl. Saved me between $35 and $85 depending on where I'd have bought the OEM pump kit. Sending you a fatty bro! ;-)
Very well done!
Is it possible to change the fuel pump on a lt160 deere to a vaccumn pump, the pumps are junk
I watched your valve cover fuel pump conversion. I was wondering would that trick work with pump mounted in the block. Specifically a m18sq (1992 sears craftsman) with 18 horse kohler? Bastards want to retire on one purchase of a mechanical replacement pump! Keep up the good work!
Cool video, man!
Great video.
Nice job , good tip
I'm gonna do this on my Kohler comand 15, while I can get the mechanical pump replacement for $32, this just makes more sense to me then the mechanical that has a lot of different leak points. Plus my thought is the mechanical will go again, probably weaker after a year, much weaker after 2 and when I go to replace it it will be $40 and continue to climb over the years.
Excellent info and entertainment 😅
AWESOME! THANK YOU.
I didn't really like smoking The gunshot you got a good show I like it keep up the good job
The old # 808656 Briggs & Stratton fuel pump#
597338 replaces old #'s 808656 691034, 692313, 808281, 491922, 808322, Kawasaki 49040-7001, Honda 16700-ZL8-013, and Kohler 24-393-16.
My God! You are truly hilarious!
can you show how to make the same engine stop surging
I watched your other film on the fuel pump and thank you. I hope your vacation was great. I'll give it a try and let you know
Doesn't this fix allow oil to mist up and go into the fuel lines ? Just asking cause I am having fuel pump problems with a Kohler th575s. Thanks.
Valve part of pulse pump is seperate from the fuel line portion, so no.
I love the concept of converting this mechanical fuel pump to pulse type. I tried it on my Kohler TH18 (problem prone) and although it runs, it's spitting oil through the pump, into carb, burning it, smoking, not working real well. Does it not work on these overhead cam engines?
Maybe you don't have a vaccum source?
Hooked it all up and it’s not sucking fuel. Maybe my engine isn’t pulling enough vacuum through the valve cover?
Awesome but Will this mod work on kohler ch20s 64717 engine on lincoln welder. And also whats up with kohler engine and bent pushrods thanks
Nevermind it does work already fix
Rotary makes the pump, but it ranges from $90 to $152 MSRP (#10211, #10273, and #10873 Rotary P/Ns), for the people that want to go with the expensive route.
U r a sick man bro.... :) i'm laughing almost on every your video but this is over the limit:)))
I HAVE BEEN DOING MECHANICAL WORK SINCE 😱😱😱😱😱4 YEARS OLD👍👍👍👍👍YOU DID PERFECT JOB 👍👍👍👍😱😱😱COMMON PEOPLE WILL NOT UNDERSTAND 😱😱😱😱😱👍👍BY THE WAY I AM 75 YEARS OLD 👍👍👍👍I AM EXPERT ON GERMAN CARS 👍👍👍😱😱😱😱NOT FORD😰CHEV OR DODGE👍👍👍👍👍
Will this application work on a Lincoln welder with a Kohler CH20, the fuel tank is lower than the engine?
same reason i'm here :)
Found out fuel pump would not pick up fuel after sitting, fixed with a boat primer bulb, pump in fuel and it works.
@@stevehammontree8196 how the boat primer bulb works I got the same problem on my welder I wont pick no gas
This is genious! Now it is like the first versions of the Command series before the mech. pump :-)
Yes!
Welcome back from the Island's Man! loved the Reggae repair and getup a man after my own heart. did you see my plea about my Kohler miserys? watched so many videos forgot which one I put it on, done allot loosing power, 5 yr. old 22 hp zero trn. HELP!
please
+David Moore Power loss check out my troubleshooting video. ua-cam.com/video/PPBgZz9BW6U/v-deo.html it might be running on 1-cylinder
Thats what it sound's like every once in a while pop's out exhaust
David did you check spark and compression (both cylinders should be about equal)?
Hi Taryl, I have a Harbor freight 420cc motor in a Yamaha G9 golf cart. The motor will run at low speed but goes dead or chokes out at high speed. can you give some info on what to do or look for.
+Mark Talley Sounds like a carb. issue. I really don't have any info on those engines as we don't repair em at our shop due to the fact we're not a dealer for em. I would check the carb. & fuel pump.
+Taryl Fixes All
thank you for your time.
I know this doesn't help you now but if I get one of those in fer repair with a carb. problem we'll most likely do a video. Carb videos are popular.
A super great fix.....although I don't think it was weed that you smoked. Thanks
It helps to mount the pump lower than the carb to ensure you don't have issue's with vapor lock.
Good advice.
I have a question: I did disc conversion on my 25HP horizontal Kohler command pro. that is mounted on a stump grinder, which is probably a lot more demanding of the motor then probably your average lawn mower would be. I now wondering if the vacuum style fuel pump would be able to keep up with the Mechanical Fuel Pump under heavy load?
My thought exactly... Better to be out $60 once than $25 first. What ever came of your repair? Did it work? Point being is that stumpers run at WOT all day, there is no middle ground.
Hey Taryl , is that that what I think is growing out of your front pockets ?.
Way to go Man YEAH Man.
I tried this and can't get it to pump fuel. I set it up with a 1 gallon gas can on the floor & stuck the fuel line in and cranked the motor over but won't pull the gas.The lines are connected to the pump correctly (pulse/inlet/outlet as per Taryl). What could be the problem. It's a 20hp Kohler Command.
Bad pump?
Gas tank needs to be higher than the pump i'm thinkin
Think out side of the trailer.....that was classic!
garage door behind a garage door?
Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You don’t need to make a gasket. Just cut the metal part of the diaphragm out and use the left over rubber part as your gasket.
So you get a “pluse” through the valve guide?
You get the pulse from the crankcase venting pressure with each piston stroke.
I believe you can retrofit any sort of thing on a mower ,particularly when I paid $6.25 AUD to replace the rectifier/voltage regulator in a Honda twin cylinder powered ride on mower on someones mower that my dad was keeping it for in his shed while he was mowing her vacant lot before she moved.
The original Honda one was cooking batteries at 15 volts so a 12 volt aftermarket motorcycle voltage regulator/rectifier did the trick.
I've got a $16 AUD fuel pump & $10 AUD fuel pressure regulator that's running a Chevy LS1 V8 engine, no one would know that's running it !!!!
Hopefully I'm back from my near 6 year Holiday next week & it won't be from Jamaica !!!!
I will actually be back from Delm, not to them !!!!
A Delforce won't get that I'm a well person that's back !!!!
Where would you find a vacuum line?
That is what Taryl is using the line off the valve cover for. Crankcase vacuum.
He used fuel line.
Next week we learn how a receiver dehydrator works.
Are these fuel pumps known for failing? I’m not getting any fuel to the carb of my Cub Cadet GT2544 with a Kohler Command 21. Took the valve cover off and pumped the fuel pump by hand and no fuel is being pumped at all.
I have the same mower with the same issue and followed this video. The mower fired up and worked well for about 15 minutes. Now it wont keep running, runs for about a minute and then dies.
Taryl! I have stump grinder with engine Kholer CH18S, my fuel pump does not work. This solution is for me?
+kazeczek15 There's yur Dinner!
+Taryl Fixes All LLC what does it mean.....?!
It means like There ya go. Or There's your answer.
+Taryl Fixes All LLC Fuel pump 2439316-S will be ok?
+Taryl Fixes All LLC Taryl my friend, please help me!
You da mon stay iree 👍👍
i did not know gas would get into the crankcase with a bad fuel pump mun now i know mun thanks, i will fix mun with a new B&S pump mun
That auction site has cub cadet fuel pumps for about 25 bucks (depending on model) with free shipping, not as entertaining but...
i smell KFC near the bench but Taryl smells like a burning Christmas tree
Stop it you cracking me up😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅😅
Yeah mon there’s your dinner 🥘
Need a perfect seal on that valve cover gasket.
Gasket maker
Ive ran new fuel line & cranked it over & NO fuel comes out of my pump, So I removed the pump,or atleast I tried to but it seems only half the pump came off after taking the 4 screws off the front. ..... How do I get the plunger type thing out? Its a Kohler Magnum 18.5hp twin engine. - Someone said "just remove the 4 screws" .... well,I did & that removed the FRONT part of the fuelpump. Now Im entirely screwd
+97warlock ismyname No your not, Your using the fuel pump housing to divert the crankcase pressure to the vacuum operated fuel pump. The fuel pump housing is only acting as a port to feed the vacuum to the pump. So you need to gut the pump housing. Watch the video again.
+Taryl Fixes All LLC I think the word "vaccuum" is throwing me maybe ..... The crankcase is pushing pressure out & by plugging one end of the old dead pump it would just be pressurized right? What if I went with just an electrical pump? is this an option as well as a machenical one?
+97warlock ismyname You can use a electric one just make sure it is low pressure so you dont blow out the needle in the carb. Yes you are right your plugging one end and using the pressure from the crankcase to operate the vacuum operated pump. But you must gut the pump remove the diaphragm & check valves in the old pump & plug one of the fittings. Hope this helped.
thanks muuuunnnnnnn
Why don't they just stick to the vacuum style to begin with?
Self tapping screws. Good deal ^_^
I think you where that guy that starred on the show Fridays back in the early 80s, Nat E. Dreds. Gimme gonza do we eat it? No No No No. Do we sniff it? NO NO NO NO. Do we SMOKE it? YEH YEH YEH YEH.
It’s cool, man ✌️🌈
1:00 that is 1 of the many many many many reasons I do not like kohler
Watch where you schmokin dat chit mun! I heard dems coppers outside of you door mun! Dat fuel pump conversion be some cool ass chit! Looks like da old Ford carburbrator accelerator pumps dat used to go bad back in da day mun.
How you doing my good friends
They sell the plate for the side of the engine in that spot. So I bought that and tapped a hole in it.
Do you have the part number?
By the way this has been working great for years. Clean too the mechanical pump would leak oil all over the place. I should really make a video for this. Right now my biggest issue with my mower is the engine does tend to burn a lot of oil so I have to add every two mowings. But it is old I'll just run and add till it gives up one day then replace the mower.
Just pack the muffkin with some ganga man theres u dinner!!!
There's yur reefer. MAN !
YOU THE BEST👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😱😱😱😱😱👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Oh now you beee dah Maaan, Man! And me be think'n you needs a show on 'da tv Man.......... And, bring back some goofy characters you've added in the past..... just for shits and giggles. Hey, keep up the really good work!!!
