    I know you do this for a living and probably believe either you know what to do or you don't. But there's many in between there that knows enough to be dangerous but not enough to be good. So the little tips you come with to check if everything is working properly like putting air in the system to see if it comes through to the intake, I would never known to check that - but now I do! Thanks man. Every little bit of stuff like that you should put into the video. I know they get longer, mor filming and stuff for you but man does it hit home when I watch it.

    Those Walker's are awesome! The city uses them for their softball fields, so I wanted one too, but no way is this affordable.
    So far as your parts mixup is concerned: people are self-centered and mostly don't think about the boring things at work. The adage "love what you do and you won't work a day in your life" is true, as is the inverse "hate what you do and you're work will be a constant misery". "Just get it done" is sometimes the undoing of a business. After I retired from never working a day, I took contracts with several companies that needed help, and that's where I saw this in action.

    Not to call you out but v-twin kholers usually leak oil from the breather there not because they are clogged but because there is high pressure oil in that little channel under the plate that goes to the oil pressure switch and that plate you re used gets bent and looses seal on the gasket and cross bleeds into the breather side. 20 bucks says it will leak again within a few hours of run time. That's why the gasket comes with the plate.

    We have two Kubota zero turn mowers where I work. Both are 26 horsepower diesel engines. They are by far the toughest mowers. The ZD 326 is at least 12 years old and has had very few issues. The ZD 1211 is 3 years old and has had nothing but regular maintenance. I think we paid about 18 500 for the 1211.

    found the parts catalog is online so you can only order the parts you need by part number , ( most of the engines use the same parts , except rotating assy )
    the bracket that you thought for the fuel line is actually the engine lift point ( left front, right rear ) most of them are missing if the motor has been worked on out of the frame or covers pulled .
    another problem I have experienced besides the breather cover is the breather reed valve splitting/ breaking it also causes oil issues as it overloads the breather box with pressure and pops the gaskets . always check it if you have it open takes 2-3 seconds

    I don't know if you guys have NAPA up in the great north, but they actually carry an impressive inventory of Kohler parts all the way back to the old K series motors. In fact, a K series breather element is about 3x that size and you could cut it down pretty easily. Looks like a similar material, but my stuff from 50 years ago never looked that bad.

    While it was out, you probably should have put rings in it to cure the blow by problem. Kohler rings seem to lose tension, I suspect from heat because they are easily clogged with grass that can't be cleaned out without disassembly. I also enlarged the crankcase ventilation and added a positive crankcase ventilation valve on a couple of Kohler engines. That box on top of the engine doesn't help with cooling either.

    • @chickenfishhybrid44
      @chickenfishhybrid44 4 роки тому +1

      I was guna say I hope it wasn't just blowby from wrong rings.. lol. What's the deal with the reed valve under There? Is that also just part of the crankcase ventilation?
      I have a carbed 25 hp that I've done the headgaskets on before, it consuming oil. I'm trying to decide if I'm even guna bother fixing it again. I think it might be the rings at this point, havnt even done a comp test yet. I was thinking about rebuilding it or at least just re ringing it maybe.

    Look like a ch22s, also looks like it has the digital spark coils...... Kohler discontinued those. Took me forever to get that problem figured out, the local lawnmower shop didn't have a clue and he has literally been working on lawnmowers for like 40+ years. He finally got the right person on the phone at kohler and got me the right parts ordered to replace the digital spark coils.

    14:20 is just the engine lift point bracket. However the company that uses that particular engine may or may not remove it to also tie down wires, fuel lines, and so on...

  • @countryboysteve
    @countryboysteve 4 роки тому +4

    Another common cause for this on the Kohler's with the valve cover mounted fuel pump is the fuel pump will leak internally and dilute the oil. This then fls the crankcase and runs right out every seal.

    • @NoPeoblem389X
      @NoPeoblem389X Рік тому

      That’s very true but put a pulse pump just below the mechanical one remove the valve cover gut the pump tap a 1/8 pipe fitting and install a 90 run a hose to your new pump and you now have a pump that looks like factory and it’s functional. Keep your hands safe when pushing hard keep your hands open it’s a knuckle saver good luck to you all. With Respect. RR

    That steel wool was kinda fine, what works the best without clogging so easily are the stainless steel scrubbing pads. The bigger pads that look just like rolled up chips off of a lathe all bunched together are what I use for 2 stroke muffler packing on old mopeds and breather material for making that oil mist condense and drain back to the sump.

    That looks to be different engine series but I have done head gaskets on a dozen of the v twin Koehler that we’re eating oil and had high crankcase pressure. The gasket fails in the area between cylinder and the adjoining pushrod/oil drain back passage. These are the CV730 engines that are 22-26 HP range vertical shaft.

      I know this is an old thread.
      The Cam Lobes wore down at 500 hours on my 2002 Kohler Command Pro CV-20 engine, the starter would have to spin and spin the engine for it to finally start, then after approximately 10 more hours of runtime, it took a battery charger on 200 amp boost hooked up to my Scag Tiger Cub's fully charged battery and the starter would have to spin for over a minute before the engine would finally start, once it started I could cut grass with my zero turn mower; but the engine was not performing as it should, It was using oil too, it didn't have the same power and I couldn't turn it off unless it was back on my utility trailer because it would not start without a battery charger hooked up.
      I removed and rebuilt the Kohler Command Pro CV-20 engine, installed a new Camshaft, new rings and valves, etc. I installed it back on mower and it ran as new, same power as new, started up instantly every time, didn’t use any oil between changes and run good until the next 500 run hours and SAME thing happened again, yeah, Cam Lobes worn again and using a lot of oil I rebuilt it again with another new Camshaft and I started using Synthetic oil this time. I have 300 hours on this rebuild so far in 03/2022 and it runs great!

    Thinking about Gary: from reading the comments, it seems like including the cover would be a good idea *if it fitted* correctly. Is the wire wool such a standard hack that they actually expect you to do that?
    Does this design make for better access than a "standard" ride-on tractor-style mower? It's an ungainly-looking machine but seems to work OK - $20k seems a wee bit steep for a mower though.😁

    If you go old enough back to when they were making the Kohler K-series engines K91-K361 & the later Kohler twins & the magnum 18-20 motors, the dipstick just clicks in. If there’s an issue w the breather the dipstick will pop out pretty quickly. It’s just held in w a little rubber seal in a tube, snug enough to not move much.

    I would like to give you a little bit of my 40 plus years of experience. (1st) anytime you’re scraping aluminum turn your scraper over it won’t dig in (2nd) I would encourage you to stay away from silicone the main reason is if any gets inside the engine it can and will block your oil flow please try a product called gasket eliminator it a red tube made by loctite p/n 2096064 unlike silicone when it’s oil and water friendly and it will take up a gap to .010 thick and it pressure activated the harder you press the better it holds. If some gets in the oil it becomes oil same with water. I like what you’re doing I’m not trying to change anything you do maybe just a different approach to solving the same issue just in my experience a little better. It’s With Great Respect. RR

    The only thing wrong with using steel wool is that it rusts, and usually quite quickly. It ends up rusting into small pieces that can end up in the sump where the oil pump picks it up. Brass wool is a better choice, because it will never rust - you can get it from marine supply stores. Also if a seal tends to spin in the case, it might be a good idea to use green loctite (seal retainer) to make it stay in place.

    I saw another video and the filter looks just like 3m scotchbrite . I have a CH18S also puking oil, trying to get to the bottom of it! Lots of crankcase pressure...
