Me too! I recently started using the Paulas Choice 2% salicylic acid toner twice a day & its been 2 full weeks & their gone! Skin completely smooth! I had these on my chin, tons of texture/ irritation on my cheeks, hormonal & 1 or 2 cystic acnes & white heads on my cheeks as well...but not no morreeee! The paulas choice 2% salicylic acid toner literally cleaned out my pores deep down where you can't clean & all that extra sebum & dead skin cells would come to the surface. Then in the morning id rinse my face just with water or if it was too greasy I would just wash it & all this was for only 2 weeks! Its truly transformed my face & will continue to use the 2% salicylic acid toner. You should try it out👍

    *Video notes*
    - Use 2% salicylic acid face wash
Don’t let it dry - it makes it worse!
    - leave for 2 mins only and after rinsing it off , use oil-free moisturiser/moisturising sunscreen
    - don’t use spin brush or exfoliating pad - can worsen sebaceous filaments and acne
    - retinoid / retinol

What she really needs to do is make a website where you can select what afflictions you have and it'll choose what products to buy. Lots of people don't even know what they have, leading to them buying the wrong products, or even ones that conflict with one another, thereby causing more irritation.

I am SO happy you did a video about this. I have been trying to figure out what this is for what seems like forever. I feel like my skin is trying to spew out the gunk in my large pores and not being completely successful. I have fallen behind on remembering to use Differin gel every night, and this is yet ANOTHER reason to use it. I feel like Differin is a holy grail. Thank you for all the info, it really helps!

use tea tree oil. my nose and chin were covered in them until i used REAL, 100% tea tree oil. i covered a cotton swab with it to spot treat my acne and then rubbed it onto the sebaceous filaments. it worked so quick i was shocked. if you have sensitive skin definitely dilute bc it was really tingly.

I've been researching about facial skin alot these days because I've always been acne prone since high school and my face is just flaring up these days. So I wanted to clear my skin up and I stumbled across Dr Dray's videos and these are actually really helpful. I've noticed these "oil clogged pores as I call them" on my chin too. I thought they're white heads. . Also, my forehead has closed comedones (which I just learned from her other video). I guess I just had a really bad skin genetics. I envy people born with just good skin genes because they never have to worry about these things.

I used to have very oily skin w/acne and I was a face picker. I suspect that I was mistaking sebaceous filaments for blackheads, and making my face worse. After going on Accutane my acne and oiliness cleared, and now in my 40s my skin is dry. I don’t break out anything like I used to, but still have sebaceous filaments around my nose and chin. I am using Paula’s Choice 2% BHA liquid and Azelaic Acid a couple times a week and both help to reduce them. Neither annoys my now dry & sensitive skin. Also I cannot say enough what a HUGE difference just leaving your skin alone makes. It’s tempting to squeeze those suckers out, but trust me, it’s not worth the constant cycle of injuring and healing your skin.

I know you recommend avoiding leave-on SA products, but CosRX Blackhead Power Liquid is the BEST thing that has ever happened to my nose! It has both salicylic acid and hyaluronic acid. It's sooooo gentle and effective! Love it! It took about a week for it to work at first, but now if I go one day without it the blackheads and sebaceous filaments (thanks for the new vocab term, BTW!) come right back.

When people make videos of themselves using pore strips and show the used strip with all the white bits on it, I think what mostly comes off is this stuff, not blackheads. There are always people arguing over it in the comments, lmao, it made me curious if there was anything happening there or not. It's nice to know there are better options for handling this than a god-awful nose pore strip.

Best BHA cleanser for the ingredients, benefits and quantity that is acne fighting and anti aging : D'Alba piedmont gel cleanser. It is cruelty free, fungal acne safe and has the perfect ph : 5.5!! It is mild and doesn't make your skin dry or extra squeaky, but it leaves your face clean and smooth!! You need however to moisturize after! Perfect for normal, combo and oily skin! For dry, it may not be the best. It cleared up my cystic acne, and just brightened my skin in less than one week 😍 I am simply in love❤

Yes these build up on the daily, solely on my nose and slowly. I go over it with a tissue coated in salycilic acid and you can see a residue on the tissue.
It makes my nose constantly feel bumpy, which is frustrating but thanks to you, I’m doing everything right and my skin is never better!
I wash my face with just water, followed by azelaic acid, rosehip oil and spf 50.
In the evening I use a gentle fragrance free cleanser, followed by salycilic acid and retinol. I use BHA peel once a week or so and I use benzoyl peroxide x3 times a week as it’s the only thing that has completely stopped the hormonal breakouts on my chin!

I have slacked off of self care, due to some bad life events but, I’m organizing to take better care of myself, in part, because family and others hope it’s the last thing I ever get to.
But, I’ve known about these sebaceous filaments for some time and I definitely have them on my nose.
For anyone who isn’t encouraged by thoughts of skincare alone, I can tell you that, whenever I have cleansed my skin well and have at least rid my skins surface of them, my nose has a nicely polished look and feel, that accepts makeup better. It is an ego booster, as opposed to the rather dull and bumpy finish of having sebaceous filaments poking out of your skin.

Dr Dray, the LaRoche-Posay Effaclar lists perfume (fragrance) as one of its ingredients, and that is the reason I avoid it like the plague. . I use Eucerin Dermo Purifier face wash myself, it has salicylic acid and it is soap and perfume free. Also The Ordinary's leave-on salicylic acid is alcohol free (oil and silicone free) and, naturally, perfume free. And it costs a fraction of what Paula's Choice products cost (also the latter's products tend to use silicone, which my dermatologist does not recommend for oily skin prone to blackheads).

I don't know if this will help anyone, but I've found an extremely affordable little salicylic acid routine. I purchase the Stridex Alcohol Free Maximum 2% SA pads, cut one of the pads in half, pat it onto clean skin (I find the texture of the pads slightly too abrasive to swipe), wait about 2 minutes, and then wash off with CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. 90 pads come in a container, and with only using half a pad at a time, I can get 180 applications from one $3-$4 container of Stridex. It's glorious.
