I decided to go with the S23+. I think you have to ask yourself what your requirements are, with anything you buy really. On some level I do agree that the Ultra is worth the relatively small amount of extra money, but it my case, it's still money that I don't need to spend to get what I want out of a phone. I don't see myself using the S-pen. Like you said, the resolution difference is barely noticeable, if at all. 10x zoom is kind of a nice option but one I can live without. If you don't think you need any of the extra features that the Ultra offers, then why spend more? Don't fall for this car dealership mentality of getting upsold on features you don't need. MKBHD talked about a great example with iPad pricing and how Apple walks you up the price ladder with small little increments, each time convincing you to spend just a little more, until suddenly you've arrived at something way beyond what you originally intended to spend and probably don't actually need.
I could afford the Ultra, and in this one isolated purchase, spending that extra money would not kill me. But think about a lifetime of making decisions like this (oh just a little bit more and I can get this), and it'll add up.

I have the Plus and it is absolutely worth it. I didn't want to spend the extra cash for the Ultra, but definitely wanted something larger than the base model. Performance (including gaming), battery life, and display are all outstanding. 512 gb of storage is more than plenty. Now all that said, I don't take many pictures. If you're wanting the best camera out there, the ultra is probably worth the extra money. If you don't, I can't see a big enough difference to justify it.

Non financial Reasons why (previous note owner and ultra owner ) 1. I'm absolutely sick of Samsung pushing curved displays they are harder to protect with screen protectors unless you get an overpriced and complicated uv treated one .2. I don't use the s pen unless I think about it and force myself to use it also writing on curved edges with the pen is silly 3.the feel in hand and even in most cases the plus just fits the hand better .4. I run my phone's at 1080p as my eyes cannot see a difference in 1440p on a 7 inch display 5.although the zoom is magical and has improved drastically year over year , I'm over moon shots and impressing my friends by taking pics from across the street , 5-10x zoom usable and clear is good enough for my use . , I hate how majority of tech tubers push the ultra and ignore the other phones like they're terrible ..is the ultra the best out of the 3...it better be considering price lol but the things it has for extras or features over the plus don't matter to me .

I got the s23 plus. I hear your points in the video, but there are several reasons to choose the s23 plus iver the ultra.
    1. I don't like note line phones, I don't want a s pen, and the boxy form factor
    2. The screen is too big for one hand usage.
That's pretty much it 😂 but saying it's pointless to buy a s23 plus isn't valid imo. It's the perfect size and I don't like the small size of the s23.
Yes the ultra is a better phone, but that doesn't make the plus useless. Yes the s23 plus is 200$ more (I would say it should 100 more), but a bigger screen, faster charger, more storage, and better battery life is worth it.

I've considered both of these phones, and the reason I'm leaning towards the s23 plus. I wouldn't really use the s pen and I'm not a fan of boxed screens. I will say I'm surprised battery life is that much better on the ultra. You'd think with the quad hd display on the ultra and the full hd on the s23 plus the battery life would be very similar. I do think most people obsess a bit too much on cameras. How often do people zoom in 30 times? Or actually use 8k? Obviously if you pay more you get a little more. For most regular average consumers, I think it's borderline laughable to say the s23 plus isn't worth it. I'm sure I'm not the only person that wouldn't use the s pen or even care about the slight difference in cameras. And $200 is alot of money to most people. By that logic, the s23 isn't relevant either because it's only $400 less than the ultra. Yet each phone will appeal to some price ranges or preference in design.
On a side note, you said we are in December? It's late February bro lol 🤣

As I try to figure out which one I want to keep. I like the s23plus it fits in a hand MUCH Better and using your one hand to swipe much easier, battery seems great, the sound on movies is better than the ultra to me. Now the ultra zoom on picture taking is mind blowing, but when will I really care to use it.... once in awhile. And it has 12 ram vs 8 on the plus. But my plus seems great at 8. Do I really need the ultra? It does seem much heavier and wider than my note 8 that I had. According to my scale, my note 8 is 6.6 ounces, the s23plus is 7.0 and the ultra is 8.1 without a case added to it yet. I can feel the weight difference. Even swiping the unlock screen for your password is more effort on the ultra. I cant imagine how I am to run or work out in the gym with this huge ultra. I wish the camera was on the plus then itd be a done deal. But I think Imma have to over look the zoom and go with what makes more sense to my every day comfort and use. And that is the S23plus. I wanted to really like the ultra I do I guess, but its way too big. Period.

The 23+ barely fits my jeans and shorts front pocket while riding my motorcycle. The ultra, with its larger size and sharp corners, would first pierce my pockets, then slip off them while on the bike. That was the deal breaker for me. It really just depends on individual wants and needs. The s23 ultra is golden for someone like me who has, shall we call it, aged vision. The bigger screen and design alone of the ultra makes it the better choice to me. And if battery life is actually better on the ultra model then an extra $200 isn't much more. Especially if you keep phones for the 5 years of security updates it will get. I don't care about cameras and I think folks obsess over it too much if I'm honest. I watch UA-cam phone reviews and the biggest majority of them are people either bragging at length over cameras or whining about the cameras. If you want professional grade camera and videos, buy professional equipment. You know tech people are going too far when reviewers spend all review on the cameras alone and never mention call quality. I'd rather know how the smartphone functions as...wait for it.... a phone!
As for getting either of these phones, I have an s21 FE and until Samsung can offer way better trade in deals I'll stick with it.

It makes sense when you think about American market because $200 isn't that much (considering the minimal wage of $2000+/-)
But at least here in Brazil the difference between the S23+ and S23 Ultra is R$3000, which is more and 2 minimal wages (Brazilian minimal wage is something around R$1500).
So honestly I'm thinking about picking the S23 Plus and here's why:
    -Bigger than S23
    -Better battery than S23
-Comes with a Galaxy Buds Pro 2 instead of the Buds 2 that comes with the S23
-Costs only R$1k more than S23
-Costs R$3K less than S23 Ultra
-Almost the same performance at taking pictures compared to S23 Ultra
I'd like to have the Ultra, but it just doesn't make sense to pay more R$3K just for slightly better battery and better zoom, but I'm honestly afraid about buying the S23 Plus and regret it...

I wanted to pick the S23 Plus or the Ultra in Green because it was the sweet spot for me, but they were out of stock in my local stores, so I ended up getting the regular S23 (256GB) in Green and it still gives all of the premium feel quality and flagship features, but only the difference is the display being smaller, less resolution because of the 1080p panel but is still a gorgeous display, battery is definitely noticeable from the S23 Ultra, but the S23 still gives me 6 or more hours of Screen time when doing moderate use with light gaming sessions at high graphics. The camera is still grear despite not having the 200mp camera. It still gives nice-looking photos in daylight with great focus and color. Ram and storage are adequate for this small device. Overall, even if you are picking the most basic S23 from the lineup, you are still getting a great device that comes with everything that you need for a flaghship device but in a smaller and confortable size.

It's funny because actually, the exact opposite is the true. There's very little reason to go ultra over plus. Especially outside of US. Here in Europe we don't have those magical too good to be true provider deals, and the prices are substantially different. In my country the plus costed me 1200€ and ultra starts at 1600€.

Great vid, very honest and unbiased. Money is not an issue if it's 20% more, I think most people will skip note line until they offer your choice of flat or curved display. Rather than making the s23+ they should make 23U with flat or curved display. And stop with the colour choices because people buy cases to cover the backs..

Plus has flat screen. Awesome por protection.
Plus has better performance in battery. Several videos on YT prove that.
Plus fits better in hand. Ultra is just too big (and Im 6"2).
Plus has curved borders for better handling.
Camera is better on Ultra, yes, but only for very specific circunstances.
The Ultra has pen, yes, but honestly, who cares? I dont. (I know some people like that thing)
Ultra is just not enough for the extra 200 dollars.

I currently have the S23 Ultra and at the time of ordering I was wondering if I should get the 23+ or Ultra. In the end, I am regretting getting the Ultra because as a low-medium user, I just don't need the specs of the Ultra. I've had the S22 Ultra and didn't use all those high tech camera functions and I barely used the S pen. The only reason I purchased the S23 Ultra is because on the off chance I had to sign documents, the s pen makes it much easier and I preferred a curved screen to a flat screen. However, the size and weight was very uncomfortable in my hand and I didn't like the boxy feel of it. I spent the $200 more because of the extra functions because other UA-camrs say it makes more sense, but I don't really use them and I'm now wondering why I have the highest spec phone when all I need are clear photos (not 10x or more zoomed) and a non-laggy phone.

@James Tait the s23+ isn't a bad phone, but it's just not worth it for the price. It's too overpriced it should've costed $799 in the first place, and even if you can get the plus on $749 right now, u can get the ultra on sale for $949, the $200 gap is too small and the difference between plus and ultra is huge for a $200 difference, the plus should've been the ultra minus the spen minus the curve display with rounded corner minus the 6.8" minus WQHD+ maybe but they should've kept the top notch camera and pretty much everything the ultra has they dumbed it down a bit too much I'd say the s23 ultra is $300-$400 better than the plus because I agree that the s23 ultra justifies the extra $300 cost over the pixel 7 pro and I also agree that pixel 7 pro is a better phone than the s23+ while still being cheaper

I have been forcing myself to use the note phone additions of Samsung from 2012 till now with the ultra. For about 10 years I can tell you that I probably found myself using the stylus pen once a month. Unless you regularly sign electronic documents or like playing RPG map games on your phone... Don't get the phone. I'm now happier with my Samsung plus 23 edition. And it all boils down to the phone case and the screen protector.. I can't tell you how many times I've had issues buying screen protectors and phone cases because of the curved screen. And I just realized that by dropping my phone or having small incidents with a cracked screen it has been all attached to the curved edges. You may be able to provide your ultra phone with more protection if you're to get a waterproof built in screen protector phone case.. but all of these designs make the phone so much more bulkier than it is. So do yourself a favor and if you don't mind dialing down on camera quality or screen resolution just resort to a plus because the more conservative design is going to provide your phone with a lot more protection in the long run.

  • @Young_Dab

The S23+ has 800mah difference over the regular S23. And 512gb of storage space option in the US. In terms of longevity the S23 Plus is the way to go, Samsung is gonna lengthen the software updates down the road. You'll be able to keep the S23 for 4-5 years and you'll be able to keep the S23 Plus for 6-7 years.
Edit: Lithium batteries degrade overtime thus resulting in users either replacing the battery or just purchasing a new phone. Heat is the leading killer of lithium batteries especially in smaller phones. After years of usage the S23 will have more of a depleted battery than the S23 Plus with an advantage of a extra 800 mAH. So in the year 2027/2028 you'll have to upgrade your S23 while the S23 Plus can keep going for another year or 2.

I think your review is somewhat true in your region but leaning towards influence. People from all over the world will be watching this. And in the uk, they do a 512gb s23+ for £1149 and the ultra here tops out at 512gb at a cost of £1399. So it's £350 more.
Saying "just buy the ultra" doesn't take Into consideration everybody's use case and £350 more, is alot to fork out for the ultra that is essentially "slightly" better. The s23+ is a beast in its own right and many would be happy to own it. I just received mine from a s20+ that didn't use the snapdragon so anyone in Europe is going to notice a massive upgrade from previous s phones.
You just jumped in a said "buy the ultra" it's just better. Then layed out how similar they are 🤔.
From what I can see, the ultra has a better camera and a "better" screen. Most users struggle to tell the difference after 350 pixels per square inch so that's negligible!
The thing that put me off the ultra was it's size once in a case, it didnt feel right in my hand, it's sharp corners and curved display that I hated on my s20+! Screen protectors sit better on a flat panel.
I had my s20+ and s23+ side by side playing the same demo the s20+ in quad HD and I struggled to tell the difference. If it was there is was placebo and wouldn't be noticed if you didn't have them side by side.
Yes buy the ultra as it is the best phone, but not everyone wants a huge phone, and I think the plus is a very good comprise between the s20 and ultra.
I have the same chip, same storage, same charging speeds, same cameras unless zooming in above 30× in a package that sits better in my hand on a day to day basis and is £350 cheaper.
You sound more of an influencer than a reviewer. Because you just stated what's best without taking into account people's use case. It's like saying telling a family of 6, buy this ferrari, it looks better and its faster! Not exactly practical for that family though is it so its not better "for them". Best is what suits the consumer.
Buy what's best for you peeps, don't let influencers spend it for you!
Yes the ultra is better, but only if you are a hard-core phone enthusiast, the plus is still a beast and if you want the balance of size vs performance you can't go wrong and you won't be disappointed with either.

S23 Ultra: 5 cemara setup, S Pen, Curved 1440p display, Weight 234gm & feels extra premium because it's heavy weight
Fun Factor: S23 Ultra comes 12GB RAM - 256GB in most countries for $1200.. & that should be the standard.. 8GB phone for $1200 is just a bad buy.. even chinese mid range now comes with 12GB as standard (OnePlus 11R for example) & only cost $500

It's just my preference to have a Plus version over the Ultra. I just dont like bulkyness as well as I dont think for me it is a necessity to have an S pen along with a 200 mp 100x zoom. I really like that Ultra has a 10x digital zoom, which is super cool. It's just my subjective opinion.
I'm super happy with my S23 Plus:)

Me too .I got the 23+ lavender yesterday .I had Note 20 Ultra. I'm tired 😫 of having a phone that was that big .Since my second phone is iPhone 14 Pro Max deep purple

Owned both, the s23 plus has a better battery life for me, and also, I hated the curved screen and boxy feel
Ofc the s23 ultra has the pen and camera but I don't really miss them

The problem is that in Canada, the 23+ and the 23ultra 12g is a 600$ different . The 8g 23 ultra is 513$ tax in. The 12g is 789$ tax in. The 23+ is 193$ tax in. If I'm going ultra, I want the 12g of ram for that price. Why they even included an 8g option for the 23 ultra is crazy to me.

ULTRA is 30% more in my country. Can't work out why I would pay that much more.

I will choose the ultra in the end, however its unfortunately a bit big for most pocket carry instances. Unless most just through in a bag

The ultra is plagued with wifi issues. A quick search will inform you. I wish I'd known before purchase. Maybe it'll be solved with a patch, maybe not. I had one and had to get rid of it due to the connectivity issues.

I just got the s23 plus 256gb for $859 vs the standard 256gb Galaxy Ultra that is $1200. So I just got $340 more in my pocket. If you can get a good deal on the s23 plus and save some money just go for the that one instead.

Samsung should make an ultra version without the S-pen in the S23+ body. That will sell alot.

I was really only looking for as much of a direct replacement to my S20FE as I could find. It was a solid phone for the last 2.5 yrs and did everything I needed. Just the battery was getting pretty crappy. The S23+ is the same screen size, slightly bigger battery, double the storage, and a few other slight upgrades. Jumped on the samsung deal because normal trade in for the S20FE is $75. With the deal I walked out with a S23+ for $6/mo.

Samsung needs to put premium specs in the plus like the ultra the ultra is a big phone i do not like
big phones nor do i care for the s pen . The plus would be a perfect size just leave the regular s23 with sub par specs not the plus.

I've swapped from an S21 Ultra to the S23+ Hated the size on my ultra curved screens are horrible. The s23+ is just a better phone to use. My ultra also goes thermonuclear when charging.
Spen never use. Camera is t really an issue for me I remember when 2mp was amazing 😂

Be careful on trade ins, they send me a picture of another trade in that was no qualified and they wanted me to charge to my card the rest of the trade in price. I'm glad I took pictures and this was resolved. But it got me mad.

I was at the Samsung store earlier today stayed there for 1 hour deciding if I should get the S23 Plus or Ultra. I was leaning towards the Plus to save a few $$. Because I liked how the Ultra looks like, and its pretty much the better phone, I just went for it. On my way home I was still contemplating if I made the right decision or not so I YT S23 Ultra and S23 Plus and came across this vid. I'm glad I found this channel and pretty much has solidify my decision. Thanks Heaps. Setting up my S23 Ultra now and oh man it looks gorgeous.
