@@SuzanneBryan Dear Susan, i've got another question about steeking: I've got eleven Steek stitches and I feel it's too much because that will get bulky. So my idea ist to make two cuts in the steek. One on the left side and one on the right side of the steek by securing them with a crochet Line. Ist that possible or do I do a thinking mistake? I have been knitting, crocheting and sewing all my very long life, but one can learn something new every day. I like the way the steek is crocheted, much better than the way I have done it since 1958.
Suzanne clearly & specifically shows how to reinforce, cut & pick up stitches from a steek. The video is excellent! The demonstration and video are paced perfectly. I especially enjoyed the close ups! This is the BEST steeking video I've seen. Thanks so very much, Suzanne!
This is fantastic! Thank you so much! I've been very nervous to try any pattern that requires steeks because the thought of cutting into the work is a bit daunting, to say the least. This actually rendered it harmless in my mind. It's not remotely as horrifying as it seemed to me, so thank you!
Thank you so much for making this video. I made the Spice cardigan for my husband months ago, but got stuck when it came time to reinforcing the steek. This video made so much sense to me after watching several others which didn’t. 😊
Thank you so much for a great video. I really appreciate you zooming in so we could get a really clear look at what you were doing this was super helpful!

Thank you so much for this! I've watched about two dozen steeking videos to prepare for my first cardigan steek and yours was definitely the clearest - I feel a lot less nervous now! Was originally planning on using a sewing machine because I'd heard that was the most secure way to reinforce, but I'm not very familiar with sewing and was not looking forward to it. I do know how to crochet though and this looks so much easier and definitely looks secure enough for me!

Still kind of investigating what do do at the end with the folded over sections to keep them laying flat and smooth - do you have instructions for that too? Just baste them down with some stitches or something more serious than that?
Once you pick up stitches along the design edge, the steeked stitches will naturally fold to the back. YOu can whip stitch them in place, or do nothing. If you used the crochet edge prior to cutting, the edge should be just fine. Try on a swatch and see what you think.
This was just so very helpful. I have used a back stick before to reinforce the edge but I really like how the crocheted stitching looks. Thank you for sharing all your great knowledge and skills.
