I knit a waistband of a skirt, a tube to accommodate an elastic band. I finished it, joined it all together, and found I TWISTED it - since I had nothing to lose but frogging the whole damn thing.... Watched this video, secured sides, cut a steek and untwisted it! now onto the skirt part! THANK YOU
Thank you for this tutorial as it was just what I needed. I didn't have to pull out my sewing machine and could use my crochet skills for this. THANK YOU!!!
Oh my dear you can't imagine how my heart was beating during cutting the steek in my test knitting. This was so exiting. Thanks a lot for your excellent explanation. This took away my fear and now I will be able to finish my first fair isle cardigan. Kind regards from Germany Brigitte 😊
Never have done steeking before. I'm working on the cardigan now. Believe me, I'm going to be SUPER careful. Not after all of this work. A great video👏🏼. Thank you 🤗
Thank you , I have been a bit intimidated by sterling, in fear of complete destruction. But I’m going practice and I like the crochet method So much better
I am making my first steek, cause I have just discovered fair isle and with a cardigan am having issues reading the pattern from left and it’s an intricate one Honeysuckle from Frau Marie Wallin.🥰😍😘😎
Thank you for your very clear instructional videos. Unfortunately for me I got so caught up in doing the color work in the yolk I did not try my cardigan on . Once I did try it on I found that my sleeves are way too big and I need to unpick everything back to the sleeves and redo . I don’t really mind because I really enjoyed doing that color work section . Watching the Steek process makes me a little bit less hesitant of cutting into my Knitting so thank you very much
You are such a wonderful, patient teacher. You make really intimidating techniques look easy and doable! I can't wait to try some of your other tutorials! Do you teach any online courses as well?
I've got some ideas for online courses and will announce them in my newsletter when the time comes. You can sign up for the newsletter here: www.purltogether.com/newsletter-form
Glad I caught this video. I just started my Maja cardigan and there are so many interesting variations. I decided that as this is my first cardi/steeking, I would go for either no colorwork or minimal. I'm starting with the body and may decide to add some colorwork to the yoke later. I've seen several steeking suggestion and knew to add 5 sts for steeking. I read somewhere to purl the middle stitch and knit the surrounding 2 sts. Watching this, it seems that I need to change that middle purl to a knit sts as I will use one leg during crochet reinforcement. I'm only 10 rnds in and wondering if I should just ladder down that middle sts and change to purl. What do you think. I'm also using just one color which is why I made the middle sts purl so it would be easy to identify the sts to cut into.
This might be a crazy question, but is it possible to steek horizontally somehow? I am down to the ribbing on my first knit top down sweater with colorwork yoke. I used a bigger needle for the colorwork as suggested, then sized down and then did a short row section to bring up back neck as per instruction. I decreased for waist (not sure why, I really don’t have one! Lol!) and now have a weird pouch between waist and yoke. I thought with the weight as it got longer it would just pull out, it didn’t! I would like to just join together stitches above and below this excess fabric and cut it out….the idea of frogging it all the way back is just too much to bear. I may have done that already once for a good 8 inches! Also I am looking forward to the After the rain KAL, which looks like it will be a much better sweater for my beginner level of knitting😊
Take these comments with a grain of salt, knowing that I've never done this. However, it seems to me that you could put in a lifeline through the stitches that you want to cut up to, then also below the section you want to remove. Then maybe you could remove the wedge that created the pouch, then graft your stitches back together?
@@PurlTogether that’s kinda what I wondered…seems plausible, but I couldn’t find anything on this anywhere on internet. I have already jumped in with both feet starting this sweater which is way above my head, maybe I should give it a try…what could possibly go wrong?? Lol! At least I know that I learn something from every mistake Thank you so much for your quick reply, I really have something to think about now!

i’m so glad you made a video about steeking. you are a god sent
Steeks without the drama! Thank you for showing us how low-tech the process can be!!
One of the best demonstrations of the crochet steek I’ve yet seen. You explained it so well. Thank you 🙏🏻
You are so welcome!
Fantastic video, thank you so much! Now steeking is less scary than I always thought it to be and I will give it a try.
Watching people steek makes me so nervous. I'm amazed it doesn't fall apart. Thank you. 😊
Thank you for this tutorial as it was just what I needed. I didn't have to pull out my sewing machine and could use my crochet skills for this. THANK YOU!!!
it’s a slip stitch! I knit like you crochet, with trepidation but determination 💕
This was very helpful. I've yet to steek anything but I think I'm ready to take the plunge. Thanks for making steeking seem less scary 😊
Great for those of us who don't want to spend money on a sewing machine for steeking only. Thanks!

OMG jana, your tutorials are awesome. Steeking still gives me cold sweat but I'm going to try this one
Great detailed video! I will be sure to refer back to it! The close ups are invaluable.

This is great! I’ve seen videos of machine sewing but I gave away my machine on my last move. Steeking is on my list now for 2022! Thank you!
Thank you , I have been a bit intimidated by sterling, in fear of complete destruction. But I’m going practice and I like the crochet method So much better
Wow ❤😊😊managed to learn this in just few seconds been getting bothered ever since I started knitting 😅😅
I was wondering how to do that. Thanks! Love your how to's -- they are always well explained and graphic.

Ah I always thought somehow it was just cut and?? Thanks so much for the info!
Good to know thank you for sharing this video❤😊
Very nicely done. Few mention which yarn to reinforce steek. Thank you
Very good video! I am not able to do this yet, but I am taking notes. This year I plan to try my first sweater. Thank you Jana!
a couple others have mentioned it but what you showed aren't crochet sets. they are slip stitches.
This was a great video! Thank you for showing us how to do the Steek! You Rock!

Can i use this method for harosha style?

I'm just now catching up with comments on this video. What did you decide to do?
I did 5 steek stitches with the purl in the middle. I saw a video by Ragga and will use crochet reinforcement.
You are doing a slip stitch!I was a crocheted before I was a knitter
This was a great tutorial. Thank you! Should we wash and block before we do the steek?
I would, yes
Can I have a link for the second video mentioned, about picking up the stitches?
ua-cam.com/video/efNh9kDrBZc/v-deo.html
Are you going to show the button band?
yes, I'm just behind this month, with farm stuff, work etc... you know... life.
This was very helpful, thank you. BTW, what was the little wooden knitting needle you were using, and where can I get one??
Floops!

I found that helpful, helpful and terrifying at the same time.
Working yarn should not be the same shade as the background!
