Beautiful pattern and colors of the crdigan, and adding the button band and the matching buttons makes it even prettier! The oversize fit also suits you:)

I just had an epiphany. That's why people put ribbons on the button band. I think it would be really good way to hide that cut edge. Thank you for the super detailed video! I couldn't wrap my mind around the steeking concept and this really helped. I'm thinking about making a color work cardigan. I also like that you use that lopi yarn. I wanted to see what it looked like in real life.

OMG! This turned out so beautiful! I think having it a bit oversized is nice for the colder months to wear over warmer sweaters and wear it as a “coat”. You did a great overview of the steering process!

I just recently completed my first steeked cardigan and while it was scary at first I really enjoyed the process. I did not do a sewn reinforcement, just the crochet as that's what my pattern called for. It was fun seeing your process of finishing your cardigan!

Great video as always from you! When I knit in wooly wool (not superwash) I always do needle felting. It is quick and easy, takes me less than half an hour for the complete steeking and the result is really neat and not at all bulky.

  • @AMFibers

It's so beautiful! And this was fascinating to watch. I've always been curious how steeking works.
I've officially started knitting. I kept putting it off, but my therapist told me to do something for myself. So I wound up some hand dyed hanks and decided to crochet myself a t-shirt. And I couldn't find a pattern I liked. 🤦🏻‍♀️ And I don't want to fuss with designing one right now.
So now I am knitting a cowl! I started it two days ago and it's basically done. Idk why I had such a complex about knitting, but I'm glad I jumped in. Can't wait to make my first wearable!

Your sweater is beautiful. I've done two steek projects and before I cut I slide a piece of cardboard or a flexible cutting board between the front and the back. It just makes one less thing to worry about. Great job!

You did a great job! I used to teach a class on steeking and it is less scary if you use more than 2 stitches in the steek especially with thinner yarn. I think we did 6 stitches. Isn’t oversized in right now. I can hear the compliments coming your way when you wear it!

It turned out great! I learned to steek in order to make the Marit cardigan, which is another great pattern. It has an extra knitted piece that you tack down over your cut edge which hides and protects it really nicely. Definitely agree that it’s good to have tried the technique and be able to do it even if you wouldn’t rush to do it again

What a beautiful project! I have a similar cardigan that is a little big, but I absolutely love having it in windy and wet weather. I used Letlopi as well, and the rustic yarn makes it a fantastic outerwear piece. It is so hydrphobic that I'm cozy and dry in some really yucky weather. I am so surprised at how much I grab for it, because I was pretty disappointed by the shape when I finished it. But the amount of positive ease means I can put a couple of layers under it, too!
I hope you find as much love for yours as I have for mine. :)

That is a gorgeous cardigan. It's gone straight into my "gonna make" pipeline. The fit is pretty close to how they're worn traditionally in very cold climates. Maybe the sleeves are a little on the long side, but I personally always make my sleeves extra long for hand warming.

    • @Robin-xe1zo

@@neknits Omigosh, Amy. Have you tried Continental knitting, where you hold the working yarn in your left hand, just like crocheting? It could be a total game changer for you. And while I'm here, thank you so much for this video. The idea of picking up the stitches in the center of the stitch is just exactly what I needed to solve an issue I was having with the edge stitches not being as even as I'd like. Just moving that one "leg" inside made all the difference!

Love your finished cardigan. But it is possible to Steek without a sewing it machine or crochet hook. I did a fingering weight Maria Wallin cardigan. Using a good sticky wool like Jamieson and Smith really decreases any risk of unraveling. I had 5 Steek stitches. I did a backstitch reinforcement with yarn using my darning needle. Then cut away. No problems. Many knitters also cut their Steek without any reinforcing. This is doable if you are using a good rustic, sticky yarn. If you like colourwork cardigans I recommend that newbies practice on a swatch. It’s fun and really liberating.

  • @asharp6591

Beautiful sweater and knitting! Next time use a thinner yarn to crochet the edge. Using a thinner weight yarn will prevent the knitting from “waving”.
