- Four Ontario school boards have launched lawsuits against Meta, TikTok, and Snapchat over allegations their platforms are designed for compulsive use and have rewired the way children think, behave, and learn. Abigail Bimman reports on how much money the school boards are seeking, how many hours a day kids and teens are logged onto social media and how the tech companies are responding.
In Ottawa, the public inquiry into foreign interference heard from Stéphane Perrault, Canada's chief electoral officer, who says there are not many rules that govern how political parties select candidates in individual ridings. As David Akin reports, the inquiry heard of at least one case where foreign actors took advantage of that lack of oversight.

How about parents start a lawsuit against the school board for the low quality of education?
Apparently you've missed Premiere Ford and his new curriculum introductions. It has nothing to do with the school boards.
@@bw6078 A poor teacher cannot teach any curriculum. Low quality teaching disables any curriculum.
Hear, hear!!! Public schools have become an abomination and should be abolished!! The irony is that kids are learning more from social media than the schools!
Hello @@TheGruntski You are absolutely correct! I have met a few of my sons teachers and wondered how on earth they ever got certified!?! They were complete immature bobble heads!
And you've made yourself correct @@TheGruntski
Why are parents giving their kids smartphones? Parents are so lazy these days. They’re on their own phones more than their kids are.
Awesome point Sue the parents as well
Why are you focused on other people's children? That's creepy.
@@davidcoupal8083 My kids have well paying jobs. Maybe I should sue you for slander. SMH
It's ironic that the dolts that don't have kids know everything about raising kids.
@@TheGruntski ...what part of the post is slander?
The world is going mad. Where are the parents?????? I just don't understand.
another awesome point
My kids both have high paying jobs. What right do you have to insult me as a parent. What do you do - flip burgers?
Now, now @@TheGruntski Be nice or you will have to go back to sitting at the children's table. (over sensitive is a sign of Wokeism)
@@Finness894 Virtue signaling by school trustees and their supporters is a sign of impaired intelligence This may have come about due to exposure to Meta products, TikTok or other social media platforms.
@@TheGruntski ...I read the post a few times looking for the insult, none found, I think it's in your head.
THIS IS THE PARENTS FAULT.
thats right they dont take the blame..n they know it.
MY KIDS HAVE HIGH PAYING JOBS. WHAT DO YOU DO _ FLIP BURGERS?
My grandfather once told me that "giving up is the biggest mistake you can make in life". Ihor just proved that. Well done, man! All of Canada salutes you!
Who is facilitating social media access for school kids?
Billionaires, Proprietary $ociopaths with medically untreated golden fever that seems to define the definition of Industrial Disease.
See that creepy stare in the eyes of Kevin O'leary? It's like a reencarnation of the movie west world, in a 3pc suit with bad late night boating skills.
kids doesn't suppose to have internet access at school ,at home exist parental control , and a lot off parents don't know or don't care
Canada needs a adjudicator to tally all the weakpoints within Canadian institutions.
School boards need to teach fundamentals to create strong kids not the weak defects they produce now.
Lets discuss what you suggest.
What fundamentals specifically?
Well that's a good one blame what the kids are looking at on their phones , it's the education system that's at fault the teachers today aren't trained to deal with Kids using phones in classes to them it's one less problem . myself growing up in the uk in the 60s i was taught to respect but had a hard time compiling . today's Kids are on a rough trip
This is bad parenting. Nothing to do with government, teachers,. Terrible parenting nothing more.
@@courtney495 Oh there are definitely some lackluster teachers though too, as if babysitters with narcissistic personality traits, clinging to reality by a thread. I've seen those, you probably can recount of noticing them too during your formidable years. It's easier to notice them over time, in retrospect if previously overlooked.

@@courtney495 My kids both have high paying jobs, how about you? The school boards are exploiting people's children for money by labeling them as defective. You want that written on their resumes: guaranteed defective by the TDSB and OCDSB? That should help them get a job eh?
@@truetech4158 You hit the nail on the head! 👍
High school in 2012 you couldn’t even have your phone. Now they can live stream on TikTok during class? Why?
Facts, cellphones are banned in Ontario schools.
Interesting??? 😮
In order to sue in civil court you have to prove money damages to the party who is suing.
Its the kids who are being harmed, not the school boards. This should be a class action suit by the parents.
The school boards are exploiting people's children in an attempt to extort money from the tech companies. They have publicly declared that children in Ontario are mentally defective. That is a great thing for resume eh? It should really help the kids out with their careers eh?
Glad to hear those 4 ON school boards are going after these social media platforms. I hope their case and the ones in the US win big payouts for all the damage these tech companies have caused and that they're forced to change their terrible business practices. Those three companies, and several others, should be ashamed of themselves!
Get your head straightened out. These school boards are exploiting my children for money. They just labeled my kids and all the other kids in the province as being damaged goods. YOU WANT THAT WRITTEN ON THEIR RESUMES? THINK THINGS THROUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah yes the boards are teaching kids the moral courage to blame others for your own failings how brave.
@@geelangfordo3272 Exactly true. I suppose that this situation came about because school trustees are mentally impaired as a result of using Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat. Otherwise they would understand some simple things. For example, you cannot sue party A for an injury to party B if you are not related to party B in any way.
4:28 - Finally, the Prime Minister is sitting down with people of his own capability. That kid in the pink sweater was giving him a piece of her mind :)
Will 4.5bil stop kids from using social media 😂 money thirsty schools!
May Love Peace Prevail in The World....
These social medias need to create Dycare for parents to teach them how to raise heathy children
I will not hear anything about the holocaust anymore. Thanks
Canada should sue them and give the money to Canadians so we can help fund our country and families.
He should be fighting for his homeland, too many people here who are afraid to stand for something.
Hooray 🎉
The ship was diesel powered most likely. Bad fuel(water in the fuel) will turn off the motors. Diesel engines are very reliable until the fuel filters get clogged full of water. Then engine shuts off. It is my guess as it was not a sail boat. Why there is no auxiliary battery back up is weird too. Or manual release bypass of the anchor?
The school board said to make them whole again
That means compensation
The children should be made whole again,
So I am proposing this
Out of that 4 BILLION DOLLARS
To make our children whole again
The school board should set up a trust fund for every single child in this country to go to college ,
All paid for from the 4 billion dollar
If it wasn’t for our children being so distracted by social media
Then there would be no Law Suit
Anyone out there support this plan for our children future to make them whole again and just not the greedy teachers, and administrators!!!
As usual, these adult children want to blame someone else for their own inadequacies.
Yes, social media does take advantage of children (and adults) to increase facetime and generate money.
Why don't you limit screen time with children and teach them the manipulative techniques to watch out for?
Because you're children yourselves and abdicated your responsibility as adults to everyone else, including the government.
Please be safe, please boost human rights. All the violence going on these days caused by unapologetic narcissists, they are delusional and their violence never really produces afterlives.
Real mafia theme.
"Do some math."
umm...the School Boards had better have an ironclad contract with all the lawyers. If they lose, not only are they responsible for their own lawyers, they're responsible for the costs to Meta and the others as well in Canada. ""we only pay the lawyers if we win"" is a pipe dream....and not legal here. Just saying....
That is how it works in Court. Otherwise, why have the useless "middleman" And yeah it works that way in Southern Canada, which is why RudyG has not been paid yet as he has won nothing. The only lawyer that was smart was the one that got 3million ahead of time before he would work on the #45 case. I doubt that Sydney Powell got paid either. I know Stormy Daniels got paid but no others...she knew enough about the law to screw #45 over. Not all blondes are dumb.
Yup. Sounds like a Lawyer scam. They can't loose either way.
Educators might hwach how and how tro select what educators want.

Parents fault 100 percent. Spoiling too much. They dont know how to raise children! Period.
Public schools haven't been teaching children for a very long time. Public schools serve the teachers and the boards NOT kids. All public schools need to be abolished and parents should have other options.
Oh, and if you can't afford to take care of or educate your own kids, then don't have them! Simple.
Public schools work in Canada. Private schools or home schooling=not so much. I went to school when the distraction wasn't there. So before the age of electronics. You got taught stuff. Stuff you may never use later in life generally but you had that information. So I know how to measure the height of a tree using Grade 10 geometry. & Grade 11 Math (sine, cosine, tan)
@@bunzeebear2973 Are you serious??!! I mean no disrespect, however, perhaps your parents were teachers, or on the board. Perhaps you were streamed into advanced or enriched. Sadly, for the many who were put into the lower streams for whatever reason, their educations were trash. Then again if the public system deems you trash then they will give you a trash education. Again, the system is teacher centered care, NOT student centered. If you can't educate your own kids, then DON'T have them. The public system is classist and crooked, and a giant corporate (union) scam.
@@bunzeebear2973 I respectfully disagree. Unfortunately public schools haven't been working for a very long time. Public schools are teacher centered care, NOT student! Kids these days can't even parse a sentence when they leave highschool. The teachers and their union hold every provincial government hostage regardless of party. The teachers and the boards are just raking in vast amounts of money for doing nothing.
If you got taught stuff like you said, you must have been one of the few lucky kids who were streamed into the advanced or enriched streams. Perhaps your parents were important in the community.
Actually, studies show with the real scientist that the Earth is actually speeding up 😮🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Chinese "national security" laws require companies, including TikTok's owner ByteDance, *to assist with intelligence gathering.*
Dont be naiv, all western media and socialmedia do the same thing if not more. Remember Wikileaks?

- Not only do they pose national security risks and privacy infringements,
but they are also harmful to young people.
Also Canada must ban Meta, and all other!

Many Canadians don't have or want kids, almost a third. Why should their federal tax dollars be going to subsidize day care for any parent who wants it? I'm all for helping low income families that truly have a need, but subsidizing day care for parents across the board, regardless of their economic status, is not the responsibility of the federal government. Bad policy, say nothing to what is actually better for the kids.
I was married for over ten years before we divorced. We would have split up sooner, but neither one of us wanted the Kids! LOL
I support this move from the school board! Students missed way too much school already due to the pandemic 😕 and these distractions aren't helping! We weren't allowed cellphones in class growing up! The future is looking bleak because if these students don't learn anything who's going to run society!? And I'm definitely not interested in having AI 😔 do so!
The social media platforms disingenuously influenced maliable youth away from cognition of their actions and their futures as a direct result of the greed that isnt a component of empathy but the opposite of that.
Social engineering is well worthy of a lawsuit that surpasses any and all profit margins accordingly.
The disingenuous, watch em ply for positions of power, as if they attempt to formulate a hall pass for another 2000 willfully ignorant problematic years.
