- Two bodies have been recovered from the catastrophic collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge, while authorities say they have begun a "salvage operation" for four people presumed dead. Joel Senick reports on what is known about the two confirmed victims and how their deaths are being felt by the community.
Not only did the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge destroy a major transportation artery, it also shut down the Port of Baltimore - one of America’s largest ports. Cargo traffic has been completely cut off in the wake of the catastrophe, with no estimate on when it will start moving again. Anne Gaviola has more on the ramifications for the local economy and the global supply chain.
The Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) gave out almost $50 million to nearly 900,000 businesses to help them stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic. But as Abigail Bimman explains, while the federal government extended the repayment deadline, it now looms again for tens of thousands of businesses struggling to pay it back.
The public inquiry into alleged foreign interference in Canada's 2019 and 2021 federal elections has begun its second round of hearings in Ottawa. As David Akin explains, members of diaspora communities testified about how their lives have been affected.
It has been nearly four years since a gunman disguised as a police officer killed 22 people over a 13-hour period in Nova Scotia. RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme admits the force made mistakes during Canada's worst mass shooting and has changed since then. But as Heidi Petracek reports, victims' families have lost faith in the RCMP.
Ottawa has helped 82 Canadians escape Haiti, where out-of-control gang violence has descended the nation into chaos. Mike Armstrong looks at how some Canadians plotted their own exit strategy and why Haiti's crisis doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon.
Plus, Canadian podcaster Craig Baird has reflected the unique characteristics of Canada's provinces and territories by using artificial intelligence to generate a different Easter Bunny for every corner of the country. But the creation for Manitoba is more alarming than charming. Melissa Ridgen goes down the rabbit hole for reaction to what's being called the "psychopathic bunny."

Now they're worried about bridge safety in Canada, which is ridiculous. No bridge is strong enough to survive a hit by a huge cargo ship. The bridges are fine under normal circumstances. But I bet our silly federal government will waste millions on an inquiry to find out what I just wrote.
Great way to squeeze us like lemons 🍋
That bridge wasn’t nearly secure enough. It was on stilts, straight down into the water. The support pillars of the bridges here in Halifax for example are surrounded by man-made rock islands which would stop even a massive ship like that or at least veer it away or greatly soften the blow.
@@ParzivalTheThirdthat’s only possible for some bridges, do you understand how deep some bays are?
Yep Trudeau will demand they build a super bridge that goes overseas so that we can bring more immigrants here.
Empire Of Lies 🇺🇲👀
Why isn’t it top news? 50 mil to 900 000 businesses vs 3 billion to foreign aid? I am confused.
Must be a typo lol, imagine getting $55 as a struggling business.
@@raptorgreen2380 American trained, licensed and certified Pilots take over the ships in that harbor. An American was in charge when collision happened.
@@raptorgreen2380 That comment is written with improper grammar and uneducated assumptions.. 🙄🤦🏽♀️
yes, that was very confusing to me when I heard that the length of time was much longer then the video which was speed up showed Did no one who was notified know that there was a work crew on the bridge?.. The cars were all stopped before the ship hit the post.. A lapse of communication is my quess
Tragic. Prayers for all the victims and their families. Not sure why they weren't ordered off the bridge with the lock down 🤦🏿♂️.
it was 30 minutes not a few short minutes....be accurate when you speak you are suppose to be professional
It was 30 minutes?? Surely someone could have given them some warning then 😢
30 minutes was the amount of time from when it left port until it hit the bridge. The problems happened only a few minutes before as was the mayday warning (about four minutes). They did not have a 30 minute warning. Maybe you should read about it, before accusing them of being inaccurate.
Montreal port already specializes in exporting vehicles. I'm sure they can handle some imports as well.
Hahaha 😅
Baazzinga!! Ha ha!
💯 agreed.. they should be worried about 100s of vehicles that get stolen every week & shipped out thru that Port
@@user-ro7ps1rr3p Montreal is where most of the stolen vehicles in Canada are shipped to other countries. Almost everyone knows by now what's happening. But since people meant to stop the criminals get a cut of the profits, they refuse to do anything to stop it.
I was taunting and expressing my disappointment more than anything in my comment.
The big mistake was forgetting about the workers , seems traffic was successfully stopped
????
@@MrUranium238 All the dead are workers who were fixing the road on the bridge, all other traffic was stopped after the ship radioed a warning
@@JohnDoe-xh4iw they were not forgotten, just didn't radioed in time...
That was on purpose
This was NO ACCIDENT people!
Actually sounds like this same ship was involved in another crash before.
IF it wasn't I wouldn't be surprised since 911 wasn't what they told us it was either.
Another excuse to increase the prices of everything!!!

@@CupContender An American certified local Pilot steers the ship in and out of the harbour. An American was in charge at the time this collision happened.
How is it everyone entering both ends of the bridge were warned in advance of this eminent collision these bridge workers missed the warnings and blasting ship horns ,.?
I know right, doesn't make sense non horns whats so ever
Telling them what you want it to look like
That's about the size of container ship you need once you transfer nearly all your manufacturing to Asia.
And manufacturing went to Asia because people want cheap stuff.
They want retailers to price match, they go from store to store (or website to website) to hunt down the best deal and brag to their friends about saving $4.00
People don't care about where something is made, so why should manufacturers?
@@knowwhey7559 'and manufacturing went to Asia because people want cheap stuff" that's what the government is telling you. The truth is that the manufacturing went to China so the manufacturers can markup their goods 2000% instead of 100%. The goods are not so cheap and the quality is very poor.
Does size matter 😄
yet another excuse to jack up the price of EVERYTHING!
Agreed! I just sneezed. That affected the supply chain somehow. It’s like the most timid butterfly effect
Now they dont have to steal vehicles from Canadian homes. They can ship them directly from the Montreal port to overseas.
Pissed off ?? I understand emotion but this was a freak accident, Its not like that Bridge was built yesterday for ships that ran in the 1900's.. You should be proud that he was better then the others and making a difference.
It.can only be an Accident if you rule out all other possible scenarios. If it was not an accident , it would be be deemed an accident.

How many people died
Too many
6 people, all from the crew working to fill potholes on the bridge. There were 8 in the crew, and 2 of them were pulled from the water alive, 2 were found dead in the submerged red truck, and 4 are still missing.
Rip 🙏 to the family's
No pilot ships?
Thank you for the news update ❤

That ship would have run aground before hitting the pylon, according to the depth chart.
why Baltimore... like really why closed down the nearest harbour to washington
What about Tug boats to guide this vessel out of harbor. At night, and when it's foggy, windy, as a fail safe. No one talked about that.
I still don't get how a boat that big would turn sharply into the bridge support and not drop anchor
They did when they lost power 2 times. Pay attention.
They did not
The dropped anchor, lost power and tried to reverse when they regained power which likely cause the ship to drift
That bay is too shallow for a ship to pass just anywhere. The ship is following a narrow dredged channel. When a ship travels through a narrow channel it displaces water in the channel and creased high pressure on either side of the hull near the bow. The ship passed through an intersection with another channel (Curtis Bay channel) on its starboard side after it lost power. That intersection would have relieved pressure on the starboard side causing it to veer off course. After that contact with the sides of the channel are most likely what resulted in the sharp turn.
"Creations" is definitely not the right word regarding that guy typing prompts into an AI image generator. Definitely not his creations.

and yet no concrete dolphins around those piers.
I blame the disaster on the bridge. It should not have been in the path of the ship. The bridge should not be rebuilt, because bridges are dangerous and expensive. Most deaths are directly or indirectly related to bridges. People have died from jumping off bridges, being struck by vehicles that have been on bridges, or killed by weapons transported on bridges.

CRA and government sure take forever to get things done. But they notice if you are late on your water bill or property tax. With interest. Citizens should be able to do the same things. Insterest governments or CRA for taking forever.
The question is why didn't the ship's crew lower the anchors to try to stop the ship, since this accident took 30 minutes to happen.
Because they did it on purpose
They did, but baltimore bays geology is very silty. Anchors don't work well in silty soil while your moving. Cargo ships also have a lot of momentum, anchor won't do much in silty ground and a still fast moving ship.
@@caden6762 EDIT: Yes. The Dali when empty weighs 95,000 tons (or 213 million pounds). But weighed more than 116,000 tons (over 255,000,000 pounds!) at the time of the tragedy. That kind of kinetic energy is unimaginable to understand, even for physics experts.
Port anchor was dropped while ship moving at 8 knots ;ship lost power twice ;dragging anchor in addition to power loss caused massive heavy fully loaded ship to vear out of center lane smashing into a fracture critical bridge built in 1976 that are not made anymore in the U.S. Freak accident non terror related as per FBI. Starboard anchor was not dropped for whatever reason investigation ongoing.
@@jaimeizreal8810 95,000 gross tons is the empty weight not including cargo. This ship would have been close to double that when it hit the bridge.

WHY the HELL did the Captain not Drop all Anchors .... did thy for get to teach him this .....if you loose engines to prevent drifting you DROP ALL ANCHORS
Ikrr
He did, anchors arent designed to suddenly stop a container ship.
@@JohnDoe-xh4iw I know it will not bring him to a dead stop but had he dropped all 8 that ship was equipped with it would have slowed him the hell down in the sallow water .. and allowed more time for the tugs to respond and also all 8 would have gotten the ship to a stop in the shallow water not right a way but pretty Quick
I know I have been on a ship that had to do this
Ai bunnies?? Is this the news?
100%... You'd think there are many other stories which should have been reflected. How about the Carbon Tax increase on Monday - that's a good start.
my opinion only is i would say that the boat was overloaded and could not handle the weigh put the engine out ps the weight help to knock down the bridge also
