    Brilliant remembrance for all Kiwis and Aussies alike on Anzac Day in Australia. We honour all those who fought for us, and in many cases died for our freedom, during WWI and WW2, and for our Servicemen & Women who continue to serve our Countries today 👍

    My father was 28th Maori Battalion B. Company, and passed away 20009. My older brother in Victor 6 Company Vietnam. I remember my dad refusing to give consent and refused to sign his papers, he wasn't quite 21. However as soon as he was of age he was gone. My dad wept for him and recalled how he did the same with his mother, but forged her signature and faked his age and was gone. He related how he said it was a waste of time fighting for political gain among super powers at that time. What was most devastating for Maori soldiers, was the distribution of their land to accommodate the returning soldiers. To add salt to the wound it went to non Maori regardless whether the fact it was Maori land. Today the hypocrisy is continuing on to this day even among ignorant Maori in a European stylized parliament. I mourn the memory of those unfortunate men and women who fought a political war for control of the masses by a minority of elitists who actually instigate these wars. Now they mongrelise our language and use the word kiwi as an identity. A kiwi is a bird, tauiwi is most appropriate, landed and assumed as belonging here. Freedom from what?

      My grandfather and his brothers served in B Company aswell. While they were away the remaining family sold his and my nans land. We live in Harataunga and we used to own much of it until then. Infact he was next in line to be Paramount Chief of the Coromandels since he was the oldest in the family and it would of been passed down to him from Eruera Te Ngahue, my great great grandfather.

    • @mirandahotspring4019
      @mirandahotspring4019 Рік тому

      My grandfather was a sergeant in the Maori Battalion and lost both his legs in action in Egypt.
      The kiwi was used on many NZ military badges and during the First World War, the name "Kiwis" for New Zealand soldiers came into general use, and a giant kiwi (now known as the Bulford kiwi) was carved on the chalk hill above Sling Camp in England. Usage has become so widespread that all New Zealanders overseas and at home are now commonly referred to as "Kiwis".
      I am proud to be a Kiwi.

    A very impressive display of trans tasman culture on this auspicious of days. Unfortunately someone failed to inform the group that they were wearing the incorrect plant.
    They were wearing poppies, they should have been wearing rosemaries instead. Rosemary is the the correct plant to be wearing on ANZAC day not poppies, they are expressly reserved for remembrance day on Nov 11th.

    • @meatavoreNana

    • @andrewparrott7260
      @andrewparrott7260 Рік тому +1

      @@meatavoreNana unfortunately you are ultimately incorrect. If you've been wearing a poppy on Anzac day then you've been ill informed. The correct plant emblem is rosemary, to be worn on Anzac day and rosemary only. As kid growing up here in Australia that's what I was taught, also as an ex-serviceman that's what we were taught as well. Coming from a very long line of ancestors who served in the Boer war WW1 and 2 and peace keeping I think I ought to know. Anyone else who says otherwise is incorrect.

      @andrewparrott7260 Рік тому

      @@meatavoreNana thank you very much for your apology. It irks me immensely when people wear poppies and think that it's ok. It's definitely not, the RSL should definitely put this right and sadly they don't. If you're attending an Anzac service in the near future the sub-branches should definitely be handing out free of charge sprigs of rosemaries before the service.
      And, if you're really interested I why we wear rosemaries, it goes back to the ancient Greek times. It was considered extremely important to receive a wreath as a sign of manliness and honour after a battle in wartime. Also as a very well known herb for cooking with and had healing benefits for ailments. Now the reason why we wear it on Anzac day, is because it was growing on the cliff tops of the Gallipoli peninsula. And the reason for wearing poppies on armistice/rememberence day is because they were growing in the battle fields of Flanders. The only way poppies can grow is if the ground is turned over and disturbed, hence the battle fields. They were growing all around the battle fields and the graves of the fallen soldiers. People need to be educated on this sort of thing so in future they can get it right, unfortunately no one has the guts or the gumption to right the wrongs of the inept. Our forefathers who fought for our freedoms would be rolling in their graves if they knew what was happening in today's society.
