      Aotearoa ( Land of the long white cloud ) or known as New Zealand is the homeland of us Māori people, so the Haka belongs to our culture. Our Samoan brothers and sisters are from the beautiful island of Samoa and they do a similar war cry but is named Siva Tau, just to clear up the confusion. Both have similar cultures and language, yet still very different. But both countries and people are from the Polynesian region though and Kia Ora ( Thank you ) for showing love to both cultures.

    • @flamingfrancis
      @flamingfrancis 3 роки тому +1

      War dances and war cries are not unique to the Polynesian people and performances often seen at the start of so many international games played at many sports. We all see the NZ national teams performing them and showing their "respect" to opposition teams.
      The Australian Kangaroos, the national Rugby LEAGUE team, used to perform a war cry from the early 1900's through to 1967. While being a more theatrical presentation than the Haka it was done for the Indigenoue people who were frequently represented in the team given the many great Indigenous players over the decades. The Wallabies (Rugby Union) team used to also perform a similar chant but this died out well before it did with the Kangaroos.
      It would also be something I would expect to be seen at Aussie Rules games given the links of that sport to the game called Marngrook that was played in ancient times by the First Australians.

      Maori's and samoans are polynesians, but New zealand has a long distant from the main region of polynesia so they pretty much developed their own unique culture

This is all quite amazing and I truly wish that some people would just stop being so ignorant about this because I truly believe that it is disrespectful to their/this culture !!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂

      🤣🤣🤣why man? its funny but those ones had bad role models and weren't taught otherwise because some maori actually get embarrassed at our culture and were brought up to think being a gangsta is cool. All because before maori were allowed to speak our language again after the government tried banning it some of us had already been influenced by various countries (mainly america) through the media our government wanted us to entangle ourselves in whether it be radio, television or other types of ways they could change us but yeah thats my rant. you did make me laugh tho

    I was never REALLY interested in Maori culture and the practices they've kept alive through the ages while growing up. But seeing these kinds of videos make me feel proud to come from New Zealand because the culture really is super special, there aren't many traditions left in the world which are similar to a Haka. As I got older I've learnt to appreciate it WAY more.

      If you are not Aboriginal what are you? Don’t let ppl not qualified to label themselves, assign you. You are Aboriginal my friend - true enough attempts have been made to wash away who you are, but look at what you have come to see. It’s in your programming which is in your carbon/melanin.
      It makes pale ppl feel a bit uneasy watching - they don’t know why. But we feel it deeper without knowledge because the authors of this Haka were originally black like everyone else on the earth and they were passionate ppl just like we are today.

    My family is Eastern European, Czechoslovakian and Polish. I find haka to be fascinating. I find it there are interesting facets to all cultures and I like to find the history and also the beauty of those cultures however they manifest. I read some of the comments and some of them were favorable and some of them were downright hateful. Personally I think there's way too much hate in the world as my parents experience world war II in Europe. if people find something not interesting to them they should just move on to something that is interesting to them rather than lambasting it because they're not a fan. I would like to see a world where people actually followed loving teachings which exist in many of the spiritual teachings in the world.

But there are a few that women can do if representing nationally or for specific occasions such as weddings, bdays, funerals etc...and there are some where we cannot. But it's beautiful to see
