Word! I had one I dropped in my dog's water bowl, left outside in the snow and froze and left on top of my car while I drove about 11 miles home and by some miracle it was still on top of my car when I got there... It lasted about three years of abuse and the only reason I stopped using it was because I wanted and got a pink Razr.
Same could not be said for the Razr, it lasted about 6 months with me, lol 😅😅😅
Wow. What an incredible story. You two are great for each other. That connection kept you alive. Congratulations on your marriage. ❤

This has to be one of my favorite episodes! Just prior to this one, I watched an episode about two female climbers who made the most foolish choices at every single turn! I started this episode assuming it would be more of the same, but am pleasantly surprised that it's the opposite. Jeremy and Rachel did it right at every turn. I swear this is the first episode I've seen where someone had the sense to carry a mobile phone on them. When she said she was thinking to leave it, I was like, here we go again, but she took it. It was also so nice to see an episode with a strong and sensible female in it, as opposed to the sobbing hysterical women you usually see in these. Love this episode! Restored my faith in mountain climbers in general, especially female ones!

I really think they could have slept comfortably had they opened up their jackets and just held each other. With their cores together they could have stayed warm indeed. and keeping their heads underneath a jacket together their warm breath would have helped. If anything they likely would have started sweating. I was in a homeless situation with my bf at the time in one of our coldest winters. we lived in a tent in minus 40 degrees with windchill weather for 5 months. We would have surely died had it not been for our body heat
You went in deep. Honestly hear you though!
Yup your right. I was outside in the winter storm I had my hands inside my jacket and my head inside. Had my socks over my pants it did work
You had a tent, proper clothing, sleeping bags, blankets, you were conditioned to the cold and also you weren’t struck by lightning I don’t think there’s any way to sleep comfortable after being electrocuted 🤦♂️

How does someone forget they have their cell phone with them, especially in a situation like this?!?! Thank God she remembered! Her sending a text for help is what saved their lives.
Do you have any idea how such grave conditions can do to our mind and brain? What they were going through was unspeakable. It's pretty normal to forget or have lapses in judgment. We only get it perfectly right in hindsight.
@@HomeByTheSeas Some people are just better at it than others. We are all prone to get overwhelmed. Being on that mountain, in this level of cold, with all the near-misses, I don't blame her. Lot's of people saying it's easy to lose your focus in extreme situations, Well call me what you like but I wouldn't want this chick to tie my shoelaces! Call it for what it is!
Oh possum did I hurt your feelings 😢🎉
You're applying smartphone logic to the dumbphone era.
Nokia phones barely had any features, so back then people weren't glued to them like they are now. Considering they were mostly only good for calls (texts costed extra) and people still had landlines, the average person only used their cell phone maybe 20-30 minutes per week.
Other comments think she forgot due to stress, but she may have been just as likely to forget after spending a couple hours at the mall. Cell phones just weren't such an obvious or common part of everyday life like they are today.
@no-yn8qw What did you expect her to do, call an Uber from the ice line near the summit??!! Your comment tells everyone you're a townie who's never been in an area out of phone service...it's not like they'd broken down on a city street, knowing where they were, & that a breakdown truck could easily get to!!! 🤯 She had a mobile phone, just a standard cell phone, not a satellite phone; where exactly do you think cell phones get their signal from??? I'll give you a clue, its not from satellites! The signal comes from phone masts, generally located on ground level of urban areas, & more sparsely positioned across uninhabited areas; there's as much chance of finding a cell phone mast on the summit of Mount Everest as there is on the peaks of the alps😂 Firstly, there would have been zero chance of them getting a phone signal at the top of their climb being too far away from any masts & with the storm between them, which you saw, disrupted the phone signal even when they had a 3 bar signal strength. Secondly, who did you think was going to risk their lives through the worst of such a severe storm to rescue them any earlier than they did? Helicopters can't fly in storms, & you heard that when they did risk the first rescue attempt the conditions were too dangerous to attempt a winch. Did you think the Mountain Rescue Team would climb up through the storm & carry them down to safety on their backs, back through the same storm without it affecting the Rescuers??? Also, you missed the point that they had lost their way until attempting the failed abseil that the bloke had to climb back up from; it was the women seeing the lumps of the pitons that helped her identify exactly where they were, something Mountain Rescue Teams would need to know if climbing to attempt a rescue or multiple teams would need to go out & search for them before being able to try to rescue them, again, something that just wouldn't happen in such a severe storm as they just wouldn't risk the safety of the MRT especially when in reality it would just mean more people would need rescuing as no one would be able to climb such a vast mountain through such a storm then make it straight back down again, never mind carrying the 2 climbers they were rescuing. When you climb mountains you have to accept that past a certain point, especially in conditions like this storm, you take the risk that you will be beyond the help of anyone, there's a huge element of needing to be sensible, self reliant & plan for the worst scenario as you need to self rescue when things go wrong, or, with climbs like Everest, accept that you might not make it back (you should check out the deaths on Everest last year where it's too dangerous to even bring the bodies down of the climbers who didn't make it). The only hope of help is if you're at a low enough altitude for help to reach you but even then, with poor weather conditions, like this storm, sometimes you just have to wait it out; the fact the helicopter even attempted that first rescue in those conditions was a huge risk to them while also telling you the severity of the storm, & that the forecast didn't look any better over the next 24 + hours or they'd have waited it out. Having sent the message that they wouldn't make it through the night, had they not been able to make that phone call the next morning, it's unlikely the helicopter would have returned at 7am, but waited until the weather improved further, believing they'd be recovering bodies. So this woman you wouldn't climb with saved both of their lives by taking her phone with her, ensuring it was fully charged when packing it, as well as taking care to insulate it in those extra layers she mentioned, so the cold didn't sap the charge before they could make the call attempts, send & receive texts & still have enough charge to speak to the Rescue Team to let them know they were still alive. Hang on to your misogyny if it makes you feel better, but what you've commented couldn't be more wrong!

It was going to take them 14hrs. but they went up at 1pm? Always try and be more prepared and look at the weather e. Add more time for the climb in a "just in case" scenario on how long it might actually take. Were they caught up in the giddiness of it being their 1st date so they rushed and weren't really thinking things out?
I have a dumb question probably... Why couldn't they get under a rock or ledge on the top and hunker down till the storm passed? Is that not possible??
